Worked more today on fleshing out more of the over world. Was going to do a bunch of small islands but it would be annoying to navigate the AI enemies properly all over that kind of varied terrain, since I want enemies out in the overworld too. So, it's a lot more land based now.

Market over saturation is bad for everyone though. It's bad for consumers because there is more garbage in the way of finding what they want. How do you decide on your dev name? I did about three hours of dev tonight. I made pretty solid progress. My goal is to have a demo of the first town and dungeon ready by next demo day so I can start to get some real feedback. I did the layout for the first town today. I'm using RPG maker but it's kind of hard to describe what you're looking at from just the picture. It will make a lot more sense in game when you're actually interacting with it. I lost all my Unity scenes due to a Git LFS corruption last year. This was before I created prefabs of all my scene objects and used hard copy backups. I couldn't recover anything and had to create all my scenes from scratch.

I was really upset for a month, but I realised I still had all my code and just needed to rebuild the scenes. It took about 6 months to get back to where I was before the corruption, but in that time I did multiple refactors and cleaned up the UI and scene structure.

Overall, it was beneficial to the project. It's all about perspective. Don't see disaster and setbacks as a failure, see it as an opportunity to rise and improve.

Another day of expanding the map. I'd say the map is about 75% done now! Then there's a handful of items left to make and npcs and some sound effects.
I also had the idea for the first time last night to add multi-player to it. Started looking into all the proper documentation too. Very exciting potential there. I could possibly try and send small packets of whatever video file the host is watching on the TV to the client so the TVs would be synced up despite the client not having the video. The idea is that people would be able to watch files together in real-time or potentially even be able to "rent" the hosts vhs tapes to watch on their own. I'm sure there could be tons of malicious potential sharing video files like that, but it'd be self hosted and up to the client to make sure they are connected safely with people they know?

I played a lot of it. The fun is in three main parts
1. Economy
Money you don't spend (up to a point) makes 20% interest per round. This automatically creates a long term vs short term tradeoff that's fun to push to the limit.
Some consumables produce money, and shop rerolls costs increase quadratically, so there's always a question of whether to reroll to try to make more money, or if rerolling has a chance to get a joker/tarot you need. Some jokers scale off of money (either spent or held)
2. Jokers
Jokers interact with your deck and with each other. They can do basically anything. More points, scale, reverse scale, modify your deck, generate money, upgrade hands, generate consumables, etc.
The main hook of the game is figuring out how to use the jokers you have, and weighing the chances of getting something really strong vs the cost of shop rerolls. Jokers which change your deck make you come up with long term strategies which you have to pilot well in the short term to not lose while you're setting up
3. The Deck
People call this game a deckbuilder, but really the deck building is pretty minor. For one, you start with a 52 card deck unlike StS and similar games where you start with like a 10 card deck. For another, the amount of playable cards in the game is extremely limited. It's actually closer to an autobattler like Super Auto Pets where you build at team of Jokers instead of a team of fighting units.
The deckbuilding element does matter though, and is mostly there to interact with the jokers. Jokers can benefit from specific deck setups, and Jokers can modify your deck over time

It's a weird game, almost just a bunch of random elements thrown together, but it works really well somehow

I think there is something wrong with it, unless you admit you're just a craftsmen and this is your craft. And that basically you don't have a dream.
