Do you like Michael Murray? I've been a big Tekken fan ever since the release of their seventh main game, Tekken 7. Before that, I really didn't understand fighting games. Too fast paced, too technical. It was on Tekken 7 where Michael Murray's presence became more apparent. I think Season 4 DLC was Tekken team's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on accessibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three seasons. Look at the brilliant newcomers like Kunimitsu and Lidia. You can practically see every nuance of every design decision. In terms of balancing, the sheer game design, this season hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the properties of Kunimitsu's 2,2 string. In this move, Murray addresses the problems of opponent moving in close up situations. Her SET stance is one of the best movement options in the game, with access to near-instantaneous full crouch mixup too. The stance is extremely versatile. Lidia's moves are as impossible to whiff punish as electrics in season 4. Tekken under Murray's direction seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially characters like Leroy and Fahkumram. But I also think Michael Murray works best in tandem with Harada, than as a solo director, and I stress the word director. This is Akuma, a great great Tekken character, a personal favorite.
