All below who are positive and productive are GMI
>>503268382fuck u bee
>>503268075I'm sorry agdg, I'm generally supportive, despite the memeing and all that, but there's no way in hell I can support a vampire survivor clone, agdg made or not. have some self respect.
>>503268075Hopefully this one breaks the streak of aggydaggy failures.
>>503268597tricky did it, now we gonna have another 10 flops
I hate seeing my fellow Aggies fail

>>503268723NOOO I WAS GOING TO RELEASE NEXT WEEK
>>503268808
>>503268597Tricky madness just needs a couple more reviews to become a good game
>>503268769Yeah, no. The bar for success is enough money to lets you do gamedev full time. Unless the dev is in Laos or some place like that, there's no way 2000 sales or whatever lets him do that.
>he doesn't daydream about licensing a song from his favorite band to use at the end credits of his game
The inner triangle won
>>503269054inner triangle? more like pedo circle
>release game in early access>it flops hard>but you've essentially made a promise that it'll one day be a complete game to your 7 or so customers >forced to continue working on it for literally nothing I would probably you-know-what myself
>>503269035yeah thats right
I'll be 23 in just over a month, where and when did things go so wrong? It can't be game dev, right?
The vibes have been sent.
>>503269227It's gonna get worse.
Have you ever sent your demoday demo to your gf but found out that she played another anon's game for kore time after you hacked her?
>>503269426my what?
>>503268075how do i detect the hole in a tilemap nearest to the player?right now i'm doing this, it somewhat works but it's junk.i'm teleporting the projectile and checking for collision but when i do it looks like it's moving, plus it's not precise because precision takes time with this method.func _physics_process(delta): position.y-=0.01 if $ShapeCast2D.is_colliding(): if retry<10: position.x=position.x+disAtt retry+=1 print("moved") if retry==5: disAtt*=-1 position.x-=200 print("switch left") if retry==10: queue_free() print("deleted")

lmao look at all you pathetic losers. a bunch of grown ass delusional manchildren wasting years of your life on trash that no one wants to play. don't you feel ashamed of yourself?
>>503269192>make a second game on the side while slowly completing the flop so you look good and have early support for your next gamethere are other ways through
>>503269192Being a people-pleaser is generally dumb. But being that way toward strangers and in a business context is downright retarded.Cut your losses, make something better, and if you want to be lawful good and shit, then give out free keys to the buyers of your previous game.
>>503270049yet you post here, curious...
>>503269694Forgot to say but you also need to be a nepobaby making a game in 2010 btw.
>>503270049of course I feel ashamed. You think I would choose this life? I am cursed with the intense desire to make game.
>>503270049No, i'll be proud of my game and i will feel happy knowing that hopefully it'll be played by 100 different people one day
>>503270272how do I reach this level of maturity?
>>503270049My game was played by more than a million people. It's mobile so I earned fuckall but I did waste at least a million hours of other people's time.
>>503270049Luce wouldn't say that...
bros, wtf.asian babys have a rectangular face shape.wtf.
>>503270049what does Japanese cartroons have to do with that?
>>503269192Yeah, I see these EA flops as basically kickstarters that didn't get their funding. The devs of them were hoping that support for their game would appear out of nowhere. When nobody showed up they slowly get disenchanted before they give up. This leads to less people buying EA games and the cycle continues. If you want a kickstarter, then run a kickstarter with a demo. And make the funding goal something real like $100,000, not pansy shit. If you want a patreon then make a patreon. Don't make an EA release that you hope people will buy to pay for you to make the game, that shit never works out.
>>503270420Stop looking at triple A title's numbers, start looking in the real world. Do you remember how many people were in a classroom of 30? Imagine that many people all around the world and each one of them played your game
>>503270272you can achieve that in two demo days
>>503270420>>503270798coping isn't mature. instead of just accepting that you're a loser and will always be a loser, why don't you put some effort into improving yourself?
>>503270585cris please spare us your new workflow schizo arcwhen you actually make a game then please resume posting progress again

>>503269514i don't really get it can you post a screenshot of the game?
Why are my rotations not smooth? I already tried everything but nothing works.
>>503269514>>503271406Gotta search for it. Find the current position in the tilemap, loop through tiles moving outward from that point until a hole is encountered. Treat each loop around as a ring around the player so two holes of equal distance from the player can be detected and some logic can "choose" between them. TileMap has get_cellv() and local_to_map() to get information about tiles and relative positions, loop through tiles within a range limit to find the holes, etc.

>>503272119I ended up turning down their destruction RNG for the GIF since it kept ballooning the file size, but they're actually meant to get stuck on some of the buildings so they destroy them. >>503268075Maybe he told us and I forgot it was releasing today. How many more aggy daggy releases this year?>>503269192If I was in that position I'd cut the scope big time, I need a bare minimum amount of reviews to actually go the full scope. Unironically my early access page only shows the bare minimum of additional content. More content is planned but only if the game does well enough. Though if my customer base is really small I might just ignore adding the minimum content and just hitting the button to push it into full release.

>>503247727>I hope you'll consider my game, then.I'll be transparent and I'll tell you why I will most probably not. Your choice of your Main design is very bad for a number of reasons, your response can be boiled down to "it's my game I don't care". This kind of attitude is what I don't accept. Because there will surely be other case of bad polish, bad design and overall bad choices that will be answered in that way. When after X years you will release to 20 reviews don't ask yourself "how this could happen". If you dev for you, your players will be very very few. It's also overall not good design. No one here is a miyazaki(gibili) or a tarantino, that can make it's own vision and will find success.Otherwise we won't be here. Also, lemme just point out your defeatist attitude on chara design. Your chara design can't be better? Really? How much did you study animation? Did you study chara design for the same amount of time? Nigga pls.

>>503276060There are a lot of ways to do it, a RigidBody2D is suited to what it looks like he's already trying to do. If you feel differently then share, don't just cry about it. Area2D is for detection, RigidBody for moving physics-enabled objects, StaticBody for non-moving collision-enabled objects, and CharacterBody for collision-enabled bodies without physics.>>503276365Sounds like you don't need much at all really. The bullet should be a Node2D, attach an Area2D to it for the hit detection, attach a sprite, done.
>>503274653you should write "i see you :)" to appear the least aggressive/desperate possible
>>503269227Maybe, I didn't start gamedev until I was like 26. If it wasn't for the false hope of success I'd probably have kept bouncing around for jobs instead of outright giving up and hoping gamedev would be the success, though I was gamedevving before I reached this point by about a year or two. I'm over 30 btw, now I unironically have to succeed, whether that's by gamedev, stocks, or crypto does not matter.
>>503275437not really physics checks, just parenting of the object and position.

Back then competition was nonexistent since there weren't a fraction of the resources that exist online now. Even after you'd made your game getting it on the Xbox store or Steam was a difficult process in of itself. If a new indie game was released it was worth writing about in all the big games publications, you got free publicity by just existing.Nothing is guaranteed anymore. Just being able to make a game doesn't immediately grant you recognition or sales like it did back when Braid released, and JBlow is struggling to come to terms with that. Given his massive ego, I also believe it's been difficult for him to accept that he and his work aren't household names anymore. The current dominant consumerbase for videogames (gen Z) don't give a shit about Braid or the Witness. He's not entirely back to square one, but he's lost a good chunk of the name recognition that he was seemingly hoping would sell his future projects.

If a new indie game was released it was worth writing about in all the big games publications, you got free publicity by just existing. It'd be nice if I had that opportunity, I'd have gotten at least 1000 reviews, now even if I were to add multiplayer it might not even pass 100 reviews, I've seen fun little games with coop with under 100 reviews. Except unlike theirs mine is bigger so something 50 reviews with something of this scale will feel worse than a game that took maybe a year to make.Is he even rich anymore? If he isn't he's in a pretty bad situation since his game's aren't exactly the type that sell well with the current gamer majority. Even the game's I like sell poorly compared to these that are effectively clones of them stripped of much content and simply kicking up the dopamine. Ironic really, less and somehow they do better. No I'm not saying what games since I've got games I want to make like those and although not as successful as these newer ones that stripped the gameplay I enjoyed, they are still games I want to make and have as little competition as possible in my niches.

>>503283602>Price: $19.99>Average playtime: 5.7hNo, I mean puzzle, especially difficult puzzle games. They typically manifest as low-appeal/programmer-art games. >>503284105fug, do you actually think the art is bad? I'm not the dev but I've always liked the game because it feels like the sort of art I would be able to make if I had a game
I realized what happened. In the past all the slopdevs could have just made newgrounds games for clout but ever since flash died they have to make steam or itch based slop which is flooding the market with shart. They're literally flash-tier devs trying to publish indie when in the past indie was seen as "higher quality than flash but also with 40x the content" nu-indie is offering flash quality with 1/40th the content of old indie.

>>503291394It's not that bad, I'm not a shader guy, I wasn't sure if I could do it before I started making it.First I made a sprite of a single coin. In the fragment shader, doing `COLOR = texture(TEXTURE, UV);` shows the single sprite. If you do ``COLOR = texture(TEXTURE, UV * 7.0);` and the texture is set to 'Repeat', you get a 7x7 grid of coins. They're really small, so to counteract this, I scale the sprite times 7 so in the end each coin has the size as our original coin. Then I just have a big matrix 'order' of 7x7 where each cell corresponds to a single coin. And in the matrix, I put the order the coin will appear. I just put those values by hand in a order I thought would look good, it's pic related.Once I have that, in the fragment shader, I can use UV to know the coordinates of coin I'm drawing. `int(UV * 7.0)` for example gives me the column. So I just check if 'order[row * 7 + col] <= quantity'. If it it's, I set the alpha to 1, otherwise to 0. The higher 'quantity', the more coins show up. c'est fini.

>>503290514There are some issues with this image. The triple-cone drill design is for boring into hard rock or substrate. In order for it to function, it needs to be protruding from the main drilling mechanism. Additionally, as a borer, the body needs to be able to angle behind and fit into the circumference of the boring head. Some design modifications I suggest:- Give the machine a neck with a mechanism for rotation (jutting out from the body)- Add treads to the arms so the machine can push itself along when boring- maybe add treads to the front / back of the legs for fast movement or pushing- The boring head usually turns itself, so there needs to be some kind of mechanism on the neck- add mechanism for the eyes to pop out from the side when its not in boring modeOverall, cool design.

>>503298343Are you optimistic?
>>503298659Yes, it can be payed back over a long time.
>>503298263You think that's a good excuse? When you first learned to program, did you keep typing random words into a text box hoping they'd do something? When the complier tells you that you have a syntax error, did you tell the compiler that you think you're right and it's wrong? Because that's what you've been doing with the decade of feedback that you ignored.
I'm trying to figure out how to do the turns in a multiplayer dungeon crawler.I want to do simultaneous turns to start with, so with a party of four all four players can do something without the players having to pick what to do in sequence. That seems fine. But when players aren't in combat, the idea of players having to wait for eachother still seems kind of obnoxious. Eg. you're just trying to walk down a corridor and another player is pissfarting around with their inventory. So maybe relax the 'every player must submit an action for the turn to progress' constraint. But then what happens to the NPCs on the map? If one player isn't doing anything and another player is doing things that kind of works. But if multiple players are doing things at once, it'll basically end up with each npc doing an action for each action of each player. I could partially relax the constraint and make it so the turn progresses while out of combat once a second if at least one player has submitted a turn so that if multiple players are doing things, then there'll be exactly one "action" carried out by the NPCs for every set of actions carried out by the party as a whole, but a player may "miss" a turn. That seems like it could be fine while out of combat. "Combat" would probably be defined as "a creature has visibility over a creature it is hostile to". There's probably some funniness in any of these relaxed constraint situations where a player pissfarting around suddenly finds himself in combat because an npc walked up to him due to another player doing things. This is all predicated on npcs doing things on while not in combat. Which I think is a given, a big part of nethack for me is how while I'm doing something on a floor - so are the npcs.

You could also define all your input maps together in the GUI, by assigning multiple inputs to each action. It'd be very easy to then whip through that recursively and break it up into separate dictionaries, which you could then switch between.

>>503330404>>503330683truth bomb: people outside /agdg/ wouldn't care anyway. Some devs are more comfortable just sticking to the hugbox
>>503330683In addition to normal marketing, I would release with at least 10 reviewers locked and loaded. if I didn't have 50k wishlists, I'd be getting friends and family to buy it to help after explaining how steam works.
>>503327060turn off your computer and go outside, you'll be the first zoomer in history who will realize they can step away from the internet.
>>503331058A few early reviews don't help with the algorithm. Marmoreal proved that, with almost 20 day-one reviews, but no bonus visibility from that. Steam primarily cares about what percentage of users are clicking on your capsule when they show it, and what percentage of users buy the game after looking at the store page. You can't game it with a few reviews. Review count doesn't matter to the algorithm.
>>503331301oh wtf was all the 10 review shit? just grift? I apologize for not doing my research and continuing the grift...

>>503331058>after explaining how steam works.Nigga there's people who actually know how steam works and none of them talk about astroturfing reviews you retard. That's exactly the kind of thing a smart algorithm would detect and bury because there's more than enough Chinese asset flips trying to botnet a bunch of reviews, yet they don't end up actually tricking steam
So it turns out the benefits of being in the inner circle are completely negligible in the grand scheme of things and out in the open market
True inner circle.
>>503331681The review count itself doesn't matter, but typically more reviews = more sales, and sales count really really matters. Marmoreal had something like 20 reviews for less than 100 sales on day one, which is a very unhealthy ratio. Compare that to Tricky, which is at 96 reviews for 1784 sales (see >>503298343). Tricky is doing well because it's getting organic visibility from high sales numbers (also a high number of new additional wishlists). If you really want to game the algorithm, you need to prepare several hundred sales (and give Steam their 30% cut on all of them), and it doesn't really matter if any of those sold units leave a review or not.
