I already have Take your Time Ultimate which allows me to slow down research to a crawl if wanted, aka first research is more than 999 turns but this doesn't affect production so Im stuck only either building units for time over and over and it's kind of annoying to keep producing a lot of units so quickly.

it's the demo build of the full release. the base game won't be updated until jan 31st when it officially launches. I've never had performance issues with it in the past and the demo build doesn't run any worse so I can't say whether or not it runs better.

I haven't gotten it up to higher populations, since really the demo doesn't have enough available in it to warrant getting past 40-50 people.

A lot of the new art for things like the manor and rustic church pieces all look really nice.

I liked that they made the age transition hold you back a bit to even the playing field for the next epoch, but not being able to play fully as the same civilization (that stands the test of time) seems underwhelming. Also, it seems that they aren't really taking into account civilizations that didn't go overseas and explore for the second age.

Most of all, we might miss some great civilizations. I'm a great fan of Byzantium, but Constantinople fell 1453 and discovery of Americas happened 1492. On the live stream, the second age jumped to 7th century, so that gives me hope, but again, Venice, Byzantium, Genoa and the like were Med empires, not ocean faring ones. How will these civs be implemented when there's so much focus on new lands?

I didn't really have any problems with running it but my laptop strarts to sound like it's going to lift off while I run it. The game uses one cpu to do most things so one gets really hot while the rest barely do a thing. Anyway the game looks a lot better.

Yeah, it's got skirmishes and multiplayer. I haven't played either but the menus looked pretty similar to Call to Arms skirmishes.

Earth 2150 is such a fucking amazing rts. The expansions were fun. Modular units in a command and conquer style skirmish? 3 fully fleshed out factions with their unique styles? Limited resource campaign that also had a timer? Elevation, day night cycle mattering? And yet like no one knows of this game.

Graphics were dated and yeah ui/tutorial not great but it's a fucking shame this game didn't get more exposure.

An old AoE-like RTS named The Dark Legions, found it on Reflexive way back when that was a thing. Kinda ugly in a charming way. Doesn't really do anything special, save for the late-game magic. Non-campaign maps are atrociously balanced with some severe AI cheating on top. Doesn't play too nice with modern hardware but it's functional. Have literally never seen anyone talk about it, ever.

W&R has quite a few "gotchas" that make realism mode impractical I think

first there's the whole dormant workers thing, you gotta be careful to not accidentally activate them, and it really demands that you build new and move people in rather than building out from the old towns, which I find more satisfying, but adding services to old towns in realism mode just takes way too long, they all died or defected by the time you have running water and a grocery store

then there's power lines and pipes, you have to pre-make branch points built in from the start everywhere, or else you'll have to tear down your main power/water line for months to rebuild it, which basically ends the game.

and the worst one is how inconsistent it is with what buildings can be driven "through" and which one's can't. the bus stop lets traffic flow, but the bus platform stops all throughtraffic even though the road part looks the same, you can't really guess which ones allow traffic and which ones don't, you have to know it by heart, and its safest to just assume they don't

all of this kinda saps my will to play it, I feel like the game needs a substantially better engine than it has to support these things, in every other transport game you can add a bus stop to the side of any road but in W&R you have to tear the whole road down

I still want to give full realism a go but keeping all these gotchas in mind and not knowing if there's something else I missed that might end the game if I don't work around it ahead of time is putting me off

It's mainly about getting past the first few hurdles in a campaign and then your basically steamroll the rest of the map.
I'd really like to see some 1st/3rd person mode introduced after giving basic orders to unit officers. CA has done a 3rd person action game before. Bannerlord sort of expanded from the other direction. They started with the 1st/3rd person action combat and added a command ui in later.

I've enjoyed customizing my army and all the vehicles. I had hoped that there was a bit more depth to it like training the militia units into more specialized and elite forces but it just seems to end after getting a few experience ranks.

They released a DLC expansion for US forces earlier this year for that game.

Oh, those are unit upgrades for increasing speed. They still move at a snail's pace even with them. You have to drop them off with armored troop carrier to effectively move them around the maps.

Trying CS2 again after a year hiatus. It seems to be in a much better spot at least in terms of building variety with the amount of asset packs and patches adding stuff that they've dropped. Can't tell yet if the simulation is actually improved but it does seem a bit more difficult than I initially remember to keep everything balanced.

Simply put, it overwhelms me. I tend to focus on land, air OR sea. But even Forged Alliance's easy AI will notice you have no air, and will make a T3 bomber to snipe your UBC.
In Normal, from my garbled memories, you have to make fighters right away, and have them patrol the middle of the map to intercept any gunship/bomber.

Memoriapolis updated today with an overhaul to their faction system. Instead of having a shit ton of various cultural factions coming in and snatching up districts left and right you get one that will spread out to adjacent districts as they gain power.

Haven't fucked around with it enough to see how it really changes things up, though. They didn't seem all that expansionist with how frequently they requested moved into new districts. They will make requests for edicts in the senate and supposedly will also make requests for you to build certain buildings for them, but I never saw that one in particular pop up (it's probably tied to what you have unlocked and I was always kinda starved for architectural plans this go-around).

The changes to the generational algorithm for districts is better, I only tried the one quick start to scope it out but I already feel like I'll be able to plant cultural buildings further away from the town center without it resulting in barren patches.

Game is a They Are Billions-like, you have a keep in the middle of nowhere, and you're constantly pestered by monsters asking you to return the slab.
You have money, wood, stone, and iron, but stone and iron are extremely very rare.
The game seem a lot more melee-focused than TAB or even DINAO, but has a psychological side to it: some enemy attacks can cause your units to become horrified, while halves their stats, including movement speed. It also has a weird blessing system where surviving a wave gives you a boon out of three (you can pick it).
The difficulty scale feels a bit off, though. Wave 3 expected me to have a lot of ballistas ready, but the map generation cucked me out of iron and stone.

The beginning of the end.
Unlike the other two, walls in Age of Darkness are extremely weak, but I suspect it's to encourage actual fighting, instead of shooting enemies from afar. You're meant to fight at the foot of the wall, then retreat to heal, then charge out again.
It doesn't help that there's an "upgrade" that let you set your walls on fire, which will damage enemies attacking it.

I pirate stellaris once every 2-1years, ive done maybe 10 full playthroughts total, most of them moded. Its in similar boat as civ6 for me, i can give it a go once in awhile, paradox produce new contenct, i forgot about cons and story bits, so its a bit fresher and less painful. I think besides paradox sales model and their dlc fuckups/metachangings the game can be alright. Its a game to scratch that itch, its not good for prolonged sessions/multiple playthroughts. After one playthrought once every dozen of months im done and to bored to continue a new playthrough, but its kinda the current model for most of the new 4x/strategy games. After initial honeymoon period, game is boring, ai to dumb, meta and story is known and you have nothing left, but wait for the new content or move to different game.
/4x love/hate (hate being the stronger one) relationship to this title is very peculiar, i didnt see this many people playing game that they hate in one general, well maybe some moba can be a contender.

I'm pretty sure your scince ship have a hyperlane detection range of atleast 1 (later on you'll get tech that can buff it), that means that they can tell if there's a hostile alien in that system if they're 1 hyperlane from it
so try moving the science ship next to that system and then click on the system and see whether you can see inside of it or not, if there's no hostile aliens inside of it, you should be able to move your science ship back

I've started to research a few repeatables and I'm producing 2k alloys/month with another ecumenopolis on the way

I'm playing on GA/10x scaling, so I think I might be able to survive the crisis *might*, really depends on whether I can get in a federation/become custodian in time, because right now I'm 200 over my naval cap and the bills are getting pretty big

lets say you have 200 pops, then your tech costs are incresaed to 120% or multiplied by 1.2
if you double your pops (including researchers), then your tech costs are increased to 160% or multiplied by 1.6 (1.333... times increase over previous cost) but your research output is multiplied by 2, so a 66.666% improvement in reseach speed to tech costs

that's if you just double the size of your empire, by outsourcing basic resource production to other empires, I can afford to field more researchers for less miners/technicians, thus further increasing my total research output faster than my empire size, and therefore faster than my empire size penalties to tech cost

It was a figure of speech, the point being that trying to grow your research by expanding is often a fruitless effort because new planets are less productive than your core and they bloat your empire size all the same.

New researchers aren't strictly bad thing ever but they have diminishing returns and the effect of new planets trends towards the average of what your researchers make. The issue here is that the AI sucks at specializing it's planets BUT researchers don't actually get bonuses from specialties while minerals, energy and alloys benefit massively. Your researches are basically as effective as theirs but your alloy production is wildly more efficient than theirs. The end result is what you see in your screen, the AI struggles with basic economy but benefits a lot from little subsidies which don't cost you lot of jobs relatively speaking (this is without mentioning that you can gain minerals and energy relatively easily from non empire size effects especially in late game) when trying to extract science.

This of course is true as well, but the thing here is that you can opt into this when ever you want, but you can't opt out of empire size the same way. If you bloat your empire and then decide "actually I don't want this" it's very difficult to shred. Meanwhile if you are say researching and decide you want to build a navy you can just double your alloy production at any point and start shitting out ships which aren't penalized by empire size.

This is the key, minerals and alloys have much better stacking that the AI just isn't using the same way the player is. If the AI was played by another player then extracting resources would be the way to go because it keeps the vassal weaker.

I see a lot of reviews that say that its missing the soul of The Movies but I think that it is really just missing the 1920's era to be a good successor to The Movies.
It allows all kinds of creativity to making the movie. You can edit the script and instead of the actors speaking simlish, they are voiced by TTS that you can directly edit in the script.

This is also counterproductive because your research is limited by planets not by population because research comes basically exclusively from the researcher jobs which outside of orbital habs and ringworlds only come from buildings. I never liked the ui in The Movies. It makes it impossible to even handle more than a handful of actors. I also didn't like that you need to have certain sets to make your writers write stories that use them.

Kinda. It's HoMM3, but with more and less stuff. First off, you can build the same housings over and over, so you can have entire armies of plague rats. Second, heroes (weavers) start with only 3 units slots. Want more? Level them up. Third, all weavers have access to magic, and they get mana by having their units acting. When a stack starts a turn, it sends some mana up to your weaver. So the more stacks, the better. Four, you can only play one faction at a time, you cannot mix them together. Five, you cannot find the rare ressources on the map, so better take over small neutral towns and build a lot of markets.

I'm a bit confused by the storytelling in the game. Maybe because I skipped the intro, but i'm immediately presented with the god of the moon (think Ares in God of War), his extremely ambitious daughter, and I'm repeated that the Goddess of the Sun is too passive for everyone's tastes, having them sit on their hands as YHVH is slowly taking over the region with His "drowning rituals".

Gimmick is that it's a They Are Billions-like, so the core of the game is that you fight off giant waves of monsters.
So far, I'm very confused, the campaign is about dealing with unrest and bandits, while in survival mode, everyone is struggling against the nightmare.

The melee units are actually good, it's the pathfinding that sucks, more on that later.
There are archers and arbalest that you can send in towers, as well as ballistas and what else, but buildings are extremely fragile, so ideally, you want to keep the fight out of your walls, rather than let the nightmares smack on your walls.
The game relies a lot on building up your units experience, since the nightmares can inflict horror on them, which pretty much break their morale until they heal at the keep. The annoying part is that horrified units also lost half their travelling speed, so it's a long way home. Once they're levelled up, though, they get emboldened, and thus are immune to horror.
Game's one of the few, too, where melee units have range, so spearmen are actually superior to swordsmen, and look down on these amateurs with a barely concealed smirk of superiority.

But the main issue is pathfinding. Units don't go around each others like in every game ever, they instead go through each others. So I often have the issue of my hero being pushed in the middle of an enemy group because other melee units behind him push him forward. Kinda like the cavalry in Warhammer Total War who would push general out of the battlefield instead of attacking them, if you remember.

I fought just finished winning a game of 10x crises, by the end of it i was the leader of a max centralization federation, galactic custodian with an expanded GDF and a I was at 3000 FP of pure battleships/titans

still was grossly out numbered by each prethoryn scourge doomstack, although my ships were designed to counter them so it was very easy to smack them into the dirt regardless

that was 10x crises, how the FUCK is anyone supposed to win vs 200x crisis

Mostly a mixture of exploiting game mechanics to levels far beyond what is normally attainable, usually through bugs and oversights, cheesing the AI into being far less impactful than normal or even outright nonfunctional, and most importantly, hundreds of hours of restarts/savescumming to hit that perfect streak of perfect luck. With a healthy dose of carpel tunnel-inducing micromanagement on top.

Starting to figuring out Godsworn.
Ressources are unlimited, but ressource nodes are rare, and usually protected by neutrals, so you want to use the hero you spawn with to expand quickly and lock as much of the map as you can. You are expected to lose a lot of units, because once you start pumping out upgrades, you get a lot of ressources.

The game is very early access, but I like it a fair bit. I don't love it, but still, I like the attention to details. Like units changing as you upgrade them, like the wolf warrior going from just a beef bloke with a wolf coat to a full wolfskinzerker.
