Learn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

Im doing one rn myself, best gunmen are workers, they are the fastest race, good for reposition, they also come with a bonus for turrets, melee figthers are of course soldiers, i keep them taunting so they drive the attention away from gunners, however, i'll say i've been pleasantly surprised by princes, idk what it is but they kick ass more than the soldiers and last more in battle than the shek warrior i have a squad of hacker wielding princes and once they are around 30 they become absolute units, my strongest unit is this hive prince named wenzi, princes also make good gunners if you dont feel like letting them use swords.

Thank you, I think I have a better understanding now. The readme doesn't explain the process and the optional submods only add to the confusion.

I haven't tried playing Kenshi seriously before due to the atrocious performance. With some performance mods it's playable now, but crashes and lag from some kind of memory leaking are still frequent. I dread the moment when I have to build my own settlement and use two separate squads.

I have ore processors up and running, iron plates, and copper plates are up and running. But profits are low, I am building farms, but I didn't know that you needed so much of the crop to actually build it, so that fucked me up.

The poll was little more than justification to follow through with what was likely to happen anyways. Due to the existence of middleware licensing we're unlikely to ever see Kenshi fully cracked open - there's proprietary shit in there which is going to lead to trouble.

Six years on and not a one wizard has managed a fork build of the passion project. The game is not exactly obfuscated, though as an eternal novice programmer it's out of my depth to commit to the deed. Nevertheless, it leads to a reality that despite almost no opposition from Chris the game stagnated into the form it remains as. this could all circle back to the reality Kenshi (1) is a quagmire of spaghetti code that isn't worth the effort. It is a charming niche game that could've been polished. It is not a profitable venture for an actual business to maintain and continue to work on. That seemed to be the conclusion reached years ago. Whether it's true is too late to debate.

You don't need to get caught up in the creative details. Of the mind such things emerge via worldbuilding that goes hand in hand with the game's design. What has continued to appeal me to Kenshi is what the late game lacks. The override system provided an opportunity for all sorts of states of change & narrative branching. The absence of a few key feature and the difficulty in implementing it all through the mediums we have makes it too big of an ask.

I'd love to thoroughly alter the mapspace, alter weather patterns, have an easy-access faction warring system and have a more thorough / flexible set of (custom) dialogue checks. Luxury features I can only hope Kenshi 2 offers.

Never played with UWE before, I just tried. I kinda like the fact there's a ton more freakishly annoying factions, makes me want to play to destroy them, but is it me or is this mod...a bit too grindy? Every faction seems to have 50+ soldiers in their base, which just makes it a massive grind to beat them down (they just wake up, bandage, get dropped and repeat) plus you have to grind up 10 decent recruits to even take down the dust bandits.

And stuff like drugs...it was always too OP, I admit, but it was annoying because drugs is just running from place to place, no REAL danger involved. UWE seems to make drugs sell for only 200% increase in UC cities and the entry price for shinobi thieves is 35k. This just makes it more grindy, not more fun.

Dunno, is it just me or is it a bit annoying?

I remember when my skeleton martial artist wouldn't kill a dust bandit because he kept getting shot in the face with a toothpick and that's when I realized how OP crossbows are. You get a bunch of crossbows aimed at one dude and they will have a hard time doing anything.

I wish there was a job that allow crossbow users to automatically grab at least 3 stacks of bullets from the bolt box, is kinda annoying trying to manage all my stinger units and the leader and see if they have bolts, thats why i moved from toothpick to rangers, so they all use the same bolt type to mitigate the autism a little bit.

Another thing about crossbows is that while they are shooting they have stun resistant, many times i had a stand off with another bow user and even if i hit them, they will not flinch and keep shooting instead like nothing happened so you cant even interrupt them with a counter crossbow (or distract them, they are deadset on whoever they are shooting and will ignore your own bowers) if you dont either cripple the right hand, the leg or KO'd instantly, the only way you can interrupt them is manually move someone close to them in a circle pattern to avoid being shot and once you are next to them click attack to force them to melee.

In order to do that you need to be more crafty about it, just adding 1 npc with an eagle cross like bow is not enough, crossbows, as scary and annoying as they are, they are more of a team weapon, trash mobs of enemies will fare better in combat if they have a crossbow guy with them, this is because the moment the target gets shot all the other teammates, even if they have like 1 stats can hit the target as they stumble, this is why dealing with them is a pain, a lone toothpick user is nothing, 4 with an extra 5 melee guys will wear down your strongest level 100 martial artist, they may not down him, but they will batter him like no other enemy has done in a while. In order for this hypotetical crossbow boss to work you need to take notes from noble hunters, eagle crosses are basically a portable harpoon turret, but it has a huge weakness and that is reload time allowing you to bait a shot and just walk towards them, however, the noble also has like 6 well trained and well armored empire noble hooded guards that put preasure on you and you need to decide if you try and land hits on the noble or you fight the noble guards with the chance that he may kill you or try to distract them with other guys and have your primary damage guy kill him, something like this could work, in a similar fashion to catlon calling his thralls, this boss could call his goons that are well armored and trained while he takes potshots at you, better if there's others with crossbows too but shitty ones

Chris added crossbows late in the development stage, but he didn't add shields. If Chris wanted "katana only" island - why did he add crossbows? The samurai had big bows, not crossbows. And the samurai's ashigari did have shields, to catch arrows. Chris is a lazy and inconsistent hack.

Fun fact, people can actually block arrows with the sword but even when the *clank* of the sword triggers the character still gets the full force of the shot, i think chris should have leaned full on the 80s over the top asian samurai/ martial art movie tropes and let people block arrows with their swords.

Remembering the first days of the playthrough, when chopsticks and dahlia where just normal citizens living in Bark dedicated to bounty and slave hunting, is a neat town, but is a shame Bark doesnt have a police station, i would have just drop the bounties in the slave camp but i wanted that sweet rep, if the town had one it would be the perfect town to rp.

A slight misunderstanding. They had access to a small snippet for something specific, I believe in relation to the mod launcher that was being worked on. Ultimately aside from some small rumblings nothing really came out of that saga.

The game's code is not hard to observe and browse per se. Building something to actually modify the game beyond some surface level tinkering like that of Cheat Engine has never came into being - so... It remains to be seen if anyone will come up with anything meaningful. Those people who were making promises years ago straight up did not deliver, especially that named group.

After modding myself and toying around with other people mods to learn how to do things, i've learned that if there's something that this game hates the most is town mods, you can up the squad sizes to the max and even if the game slows down it will still run despite the punnishment, same with running 256 people and sending them to different parts of the world, but dont you dare add an extra storm house or wall to squinn because the game will beg you to kill him, it also hates certain buildings like the ashland domes, that you need to do a ritual before entering so the game doesnt crash.

Then some patrol picked up a downed mate of mine, put them in prison with a zero bounty. I thought the game broke, so I tried to break her out

Meanwhile, as I use some tools to break the cage, I see a bunch of Shek guards pushing another mate into the corner, while continueing to slash at her, but not doing any damage.
Their job showed "Bounty Hunting", though the bounty was for another faction that the Shek are hostile too.

She was disguised as the faction, that put the bounty on her. I put away her armour, and the Shek stopped attacking her.

Then, as I was about to finish cutting into the cage, some Shek came and got my mate out of the cage at around 06:00o'clock in the morning.

It was all kinds of fucky.


Also, everytime I look at a youtube video, I see people being capable of lockpicking prisoner cages from inside, though everytime I had people imprisoned, they say that the lock is to difficult for them.

Even the few mates which I trained up to 19 in lockpicking don't get a chance to try their luck.

Did some mod fuck with the lock difficulties, or are they really this impossible for untrained characters?

Slavers are free but more clingy bodyguards, so i always use them to train toughness to a level i know i can survive being beaten by a crackhead's copper pipe (around 20 or 30) is not like they are Hard to escape either, rebirth only because of the way the zone is structured, UC slave camps you literally Just walk away that and if the slavers didnt forgot your goon on the way, i always let guys be taken by slavers if they got catched and when i look back they are in the middle of fucking nowhere alone, reavers are also kind of good training buddies but since theres a lot of other annoying enemies around like grass pirates is easy for them to forget about your guy and let him die as a result.

Food is fuel for the body, not a luxury. I shove fried meat inside my donuts. Scorchies eat raw meat. If my donuts go near a bar - they can buy some fancy food from there, since they have an occasion.

Dusters couldnt cope with the power of their own ballista turned agaisnt them, they tried to stop chopsticks but daliah and chopsticks ability with it stopped them before they could reach him, the dust boss got shot one in the chest and fell like a leaf, beep fought well, hes slowly getting used to the crossbow and mace.

I think they are starting to show up more since beakys take the spawn slots more than anyone else. black gorillos spawn but only on the border with stobe's garden, i've seen garrus and even turtles now that the beakthing population is getting controled, also the ammount of food i have is so absurd i've started to sell it for the sake of it, my hivers have single handely solved the world's famine, the tech hunters that arrive to the base, buy all the cubes and wraps they can before continuing their journey

I have no idea, they where chilling in the kitchen buying as hell broke loose in the main gate with the reavers, then when my guys are healing eachother the techhunters come out and start attacking my guys, luckily my bugs dealth with them and i put them all in my cages, then with my main guy in the other part of the map, i notice UC samurais bashing the doors of tech hunter businesses and savagely beating the shit out of them for "crimes".

Sadly, the race mods are hackly added int othe game .Vieras all share the same head and it's treated as a helmet, so no helmet for them. Also, if using better colored armor mod it messes up their faces.

I was thinking how lab runs are so fucking dull and how they could be improved, in my thinking the lab runs i enoyed where deadland ones, as the workshops with the robots manning the turrets and the guards made for an interesting engagement, it actually felt like raiding a complex, where i had to plan out a bit, so i came out with an idea to improve the normal labs

Low level labs

I used to use More Combat Animation but I've been using GROUNDED 2: Combat Animations lately. also have the overhaul for crafting and a bunch of idle ones for stuff like sitting. Haven't had too much problems with their load order, I also have the MEGA All-In-One Compatibility Pack mod, maybe it might help you if the problem is with modded races.

That is just working as intended, the disguise system is very simple and i wish they did more with it, basically the more stealth you have and pieces of the uniform the more convincing your disguise is, if you have max relations you can use the ally faction's armor like paladin or empire samurai armors respectively, real fuckery is giving an enemy faction uniform to another faction that hates them (paladin armor to a samurai) and they will fight eachother (tho they wont deal damage, making the fight infinite until a third party stops it) is very silly

The battle lasted 3 days, the main forces of the camp where swiftly dealth with, however reaver patrols where trying and failing to save their brothers, they just kept adding to the evergrowing pile of bodies and gore the bugs where leaving at the front gate, the slaves where freed a while ago, but it seems that the brutality in wich the hivers took out their masters and their servants, they instead decided to embrace the security of the cage out of fear of meeting a similar fate, one of the reavers seemingly broke of his programming and tried to make a run for it, but quickly got his head blown off by chopstick's trusty crossbow, no reaver will come out alive from this place.

The "More Building" mod in the mega archive is broken and bugged, especially the banana trees. When I try to plant them the vertexes freak out and the game crashes.

The double house also sucks and lacks stairs to the second floor.
The ramps and are useless and can't be placed.
Bridge building is a nightmare and sinks into the terrain.
The large walls and gates are nice, but I can't build a ramp to reach the walls.

It has some nice decorative features, but in its current state I do not believe anyone should use it or be listed in the mega collection.

Reaver forces where no match for the swarm, even after a whooping 6 days of non stop figthing due to wandering armies trying to retake the fort, all reavers where crushed, gutted or jailed in their own cages, some houses where innaccesible because certain british guy placed them a little too high making the stairs imposible to reach, aside from that, it was a nice raid, a lot of combat and a lot of experience for the newbies, a breath of fresh air from working on the city all day,

Something interesting happened tho, and was that as we jailed one of the ironclads, my bugs beelined towards the cage and started to hack her apart like the cannibals do, i never seen this happen, nor i know how i triggered it, i guess they just hate reavers that much, it didnt happened with the other jailed reavers, so maybe something bonged happened for a bit.

The skeleton and crab bandits presence became more notorious as the forces of valamon dwindled the more of his armies fell by the might of the swarm, they could have easily whiped ark from the face of the moon, but reaver hunting has become a fun sport and iniciation ritual for the hivers, slowly, just like the other gangs, they all became a part of The Pits.

I live in the unwanted zone and their raids are rarer than you think, most common raids are reavers or crabbers, i live in the middle near stobe garden and i got raided like 3 times by the foreskin bandits and they havent returned, i didnt win a single raid but didnt lost either, they just wasted time figthing the beakys, wich will defend you more than they will actually try to kill you, the place is a good zone for food, at this point i've been just seeling it because the ammount if make is obscene, is also a fun zone to train people once you have a base proper, beakthings become less scary and more of a food delivery service or training dummy with legs.

Player skeleton can be whatever you want it to be, however if you want to be more specific you have to think what he probably wasnt, based on the second empire factions, meaning player skeletons couldnt have been skeleton legion or hidraulic knight because those factions are of a subrace that is unplayable vanilla (only through a recruit like agnu) player skelly is probably one of the many skellies that self exiled to the deadlands or perhaps one of the many broken skellies that tried and failed to rebuild the second empire (deadland workshops, post ancient workshop) that instead of going mad and violent due to years of lack of maintenance just whiped so hard he doesnt even know who he is getting a completely new identity (the player).

check the mod load order, it sounds your mod order is a mess https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1850250979, you dont need the reduced texture size mod to use it with the compressed texture mod (i have FB without the patch and use compressed texture mod), when it means below it means below, the game loads things from the bottom to the top, ergo all patches for mods (and economy mods) should be at the bottom of everything else since they are the first things who's changes are to be added.

I knew about the mod load order and my 20 or so mods are in proper order, the only error is caused by Forgotten Buildings.
The wording of below was used confusingly, but thanks for the clarification!

In the compatibility section https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=1679230269 FB says I can use a reduced texture version, which I want to use. But the blueprint submod is causing an error.
It 's clearly bugged, because it doesn't show up in the research panel under any category, only when I click on an empty space.

What does the yellow part of chest/stomach hp mean? I know that it is sealed cut damage and limbs won't actually work as if fully healed, but should I bother sleeping if the torso hp bars aren't fully healed?

Yellow part means cut damage that is healing, the yellow part regenerates quickly when sleeping, the grey part is blunt damage that was dealt wich means it will regenerate slower even on a bed, this is the reason why training with dust bandits is better than with starving bandits because they deal primarily cut damage that heals quickly, while the starving bandits will grey out your bar with their weapons, skeletons also cant heal the grey part of their health, they need to wait for it to regenerate slowly or sleep in a skeleton bed.

I did, it ease up a bit of the fight but man they still dropped so quickly i was worried all my bugs where going to be circumcised by rabbi savant, the funny part was that they didnt fell into comas either, as soon as they where knocked, even if it was like 10 seconds a skinner grabbed them instantly, but once the turret damage started to catch up wenzi put that meitou moon cleaver to work, today my bugs remain whole and the human ladies (and shek cow) preserve their skins... for now.

Toppers are good katanas (emphasis on that) they dont have as much of a punnishing armor penetration compared to the other katanas and dont have either buffs or debuffs wich makes them prime for training and hitting the enemy doesnt feel like hitting them with a dildo, if you want a character that you want 100% use katanas always, toppers are the one to go, otherwise just use a sabre, mace, heavy weapon or a hacker, im considering changing my servants weapons for something that is not a katana, as much as i like the empire hooded samurai style and the moveset from MCA.

Slaves jsut wouldn't work. I removed all buildings and made sure to only build slave buildings. Still don't work. Bring them next to an iron resource and tell them to work. Still don't work.

At least telling them to patrol my base works. I basically get "free" guards/patrols, touhg having to put them in a cage every time you want to equip them is tiresome. You should be able to always loot your slaves.

Is there a way to spawn trees in the game?

I'm using Interactive World and the mod adds its own wood resource to trees used in crafting. However, I ended up settling in a place without wood, so I'm in a bind.

More Building has tree planting, but it's either decorative and can't be chopped or drops its own useless wood resource. There is another mod called Plant Trees, but that also seems to use its own wood resource.
I also tried using the F12 menu to relocate trees from far away, but I couldn't move them. Only some non-interactable pointer related to the three moved.
