I would imagine high-end phones and tablets run it pretty well then? That would be a much better demonstration than a stuttery 360p Catherine no one will actually want to play.

I was converting my PS2 savefiles from its memory card to PCSX2 stuff, but Ar Tonelico doesn't have the same files as other games. Instead, I get these, which I can't convert. What can I do?
>>
>>506161745
these are the raw files you find inside the memory card
>>
>>506161546
Hi, Stenzek
>>
>>506161832
Yeah, but none of them are the savedata for the game. Every other game has a save file (that even says Save on its filename) inside their folder, but not Ar Tonelico.
>>
>>506162567
because they could name it literally anything
the main file is probably that GAMEFILE file
>>
>>506162770
Problem is, MyMC and PS2 Save Builder won't recognize any of these files as supported, meaning even if I convert them and add them to my PCSX2 memory card, the game won't recognize it as a savefile.
>>
>>506163369
Anon, use your brain. These files are inside of a folder, that is on the root of the memory card. Think of the memory card as a flashdrive.
There's a folder called BASLUS-21445AT, and inside it are all these files.
Now what you want is to reconstruct this folder (or inject this files on an already existing PCSX2 memory card)
If you want to reconstruct it, create a new file in PS2 Save Builder, remove the placeholder files, add the files you have, name it BASLUS-21445AT and export it as whatever format the other program supports.
>>
>>506163904
BASLUS? More like BASLUT.
>>
>>506163904
>If you want to reconstruct it, create a new file in PS2 Save Builder, remove the placeholder files, add the files you have, name it BASLUS-21445AT and export it as whatever format the other program supports.
That is exactly what I did. I wouldn't be here if I hadn't tried converting files in the first place. Found an old forum post and apparently I can use the MymcPLUS instead of the normal one to convert raw files to readable files. Will try that and see what happens.

It didn't. Maken X, the actual proper uncucked uncensored game, is still only on Dreamcast, and always will be. Maken Shao, it's buthered defiled censored cut to all fucks shitport, is basically a different game.

It's like comparing original vanilla uncucked uncensored Baroque on Sega Saturn and it's updated expanded port on PSOne, with it's garbage "remake" on PS 2 and Wii.

REbirth project of Gemini's is de facto best and most fullest classic BIOHAZARD experience out there nowadays, unless you count in differences and additions from Deadly Silence (despite it being heavily censored). Sega Saturn's French PAL (EU) release's FMVs (but not gore and textures in the game itself) of RE is apparently also completely uncensored, and this is what the uncensored PC port was based on to begin with (it mixes French release's uncensored fully colored FMV with original Japanese textures and models with more gore).

Emulating PS vanilla nowadays is retarded, regardless of platform, because PS vanilla is cucked and butchered to all fucks unless it's very first original Japanese release of 1996, with this in it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDfdPS9BNtc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3XV8UUfWgw&pp=ygUSRnVtaXRha2EgRnVjaGlnYW1p

If you want to experience that on a handheld, you can get GPD Winmax, which is basically portable PC, and run REbirth in that.
>>
>>506288609
Too bad they've completely shitted themselves in the last 20% of the game's plot/story. PS TTEoTM is a good J-RPG, but it sure as fuck doesn't feel like real actual "Phantasy Star IV", because in all actuality PSO is a direct continuation of PS III.

They're different things. It's a different kind of experience. Same game at the core of it, but REmake adds way more on top, expands the game greatly. And Deadly Silence expands upon original, so it's a third level of different RE experience. They're not same, all of them are individual.

It's always this weirdo ISA/ISA extension drama shit with these speds. They make up some faggot headcanon about technology barrelling into some doomsday dead end scenario and create a scenario where they are at the absolute forefront of saving technology, shining and to be glorified.
If they really cared about preservation they would support Android as it's the most accessible and widespread consumer computer platform, even if demanding street shitters are using it. But it's actually just about five, maybe six tinkertrannies running rpcs3 on Asahi Linux, nothing more.

I got a 9800x3d and it emulates the fuck out of everything. I wasn't expecting over 120fps for MGS4 and Xenoblade 2, those games ran pretty badly on my old CPU.

It was even getting like up to 400fps in MGS3 which is a colossal leap. When I last upgraded MGS3 was only a little bit better so I thought PS2 emulation performance was capped. And similarly with Cemu and RPCS3 I only upgraded expecting games to be playable and that's basically all I got, a little boost. But this is MASSIVE.

I unironically might never need to upgrade again since console gaming is dead now lol. And PS4 emulation isn't CPU demanding in the first place, and I doubt Switch 2 will be demanding or even have games worth playing.

This isn't the emulators fault, but it does make me wonder if a specialized filtering could work around it, like box/area filtering. Most PS2 games just aren't designed around nearest filtering, and even some games that do explicitly use nearest still fuck it up, look at FFX-2, its menus use nearest for UI elements but they aren't scaled correctly, even though they are pixel perfect in FFX.
>>

>>
>>506420239
Nah, it's just not possible to get a good result using nearest for elements that don't use it natively on the PS2. You need to use a deinterlacing patch and 8 - 12x native res to get it to look like standard nearest filtering. The PS2 is a total piece of shit.
>>
emu
>>
>>506424197
I don't think pixel perfection is possible in PCSX2 unless there's some specific custom scale or resolution you can set for pixel art games using nearest filtering. None of the default render scales can achieve it, with or without integer scaling. Doesn't really matter for 98% of the PS2 library, however.

No, that's just how it looks at native res without bilinear filtering and it's always been like that in my experience. I remember running into the same issues when I played Soul Nomad like 15 years ago, except back then you couldn't really crank up internal resolution to "fix" it without crippling performance.

I think it's because it's a romhack with a different CRC than the unmodified file, so fixes aren't applied automatically, and can't be applied in parallel-gs in RA. There's no way to fix this in the current version of LRPS2 as far as I know. Doesn't seem to register patches for any game, either.
>>
>>506404534
>>506412995

There's (default) bilinear texture upscaling that the hardware renderer applies to all the single texture pieces like the console does and bilinear (sharp or smooth) screen scaling filter.
The texture scaling will look different depending on the resolution setting. So at 1x resolution with HW renderer or using the software renderer those character sprites will look sharper but mangled in places because that's the scaling possible within the confines of the lower resolution. If you use an intermediate resolution it will look less mangled but blurry. So yes, in the end you need to crank the internal resulation to get sharper looking character sprites without scaling artifacts when they get scaled to various sizes within the 3D scene even when you use integer screen scaling and no screen scaling filter.
To get them really sharp looking you have to set texture filtering to nearest which force disables the bilinear filtering the console would do and can cause fucked text and menu textures in some games but a quick test in Tales of Destiny DC showed it to be fine so I guess Rebirth is fine too.

To reiterate:
-either integer screen upscaling (better) or sharp bilinear screen upscaling filter
-reasonably high resulation so the character sprites don't get mangled faces when at different camera distances
-nearest texture scaling but doesn't work well in all games

>>506281503
>>506466698
I didn't have this problem when I played ToD in LRPS2 a week ago but I just checked and now the savegame menu and Stahn's status in the main menu gets these funky text glyphs. His title in the status menu is fine though. A core backup from December 4th is the only reasonably older backup I have and that one doesn't have text problems.
I do have a recent GameIndex.yaml in system/pcsx2/resources.

I looked into the Tales of Destiny text problem in LRPS2 and it's a parallel-gs issue. With LRPS at current commit 114b2b178f3c372d190d3ed4f4f992c82048149b and bisecting pcsx2/GS/parallel-gs submodule I got
># first bad commit: [f6726fb7a3d353c43fab50c1548e8700cefd26ce] Workaround some bad copy -> cache -> copy -> cache chains.
I reverted* this commit with up to date LRPS & parallel-gs submodule and it seems to work and I don't have the text glyph flickering in the status screen (I overlooked that before, you have to cycle to the title description page), Stahn's status on the main menu and the save menu.
[*]: I'm too tarded to git so when `git revert f6726fb7a3d353c43fab50c1548e8700cefd26ce --no-commit` failed I edited gs/gs_interface.cpp and gs/gs_interface.hpp like a fucking cave man.

I renewed my PC GayPass like two weeks ago, and I just realized it now. I feel so stupid.

I've been emulating "Cosmic Smash" for the Sega Dreamcast. I have a Dreamcast, but I don't have anything VGA compatible; I can't play on my Dreamcast, but I can upscale it HARD, like 10x its resolution with shaders that mimic the CRT and all that.

Cosmic Smash is an arcade frontennis-esque game where you're some kind of humanoid with a racquet and a ball. You're trapped in this corridor, and your objective is to find an exit—this corridor is the Cosmic Bus.

Each stage is a frontennis challenge. Instead of playing with someone like in real-life frontennis, you play solo, hitting cubes with your ball. Each stage has a different layout and presents a unique challenge.

It's a SEGAcore game—you only use three buttons, just like the good old days. You jump with B, hit with A, and you can hit HARDER—so hard that you can break any cube you touch with your ball. When you hit hard, your ball turns RED, but every time you do that, you spend extra seconds, so you can't abuse it. If you use it strategically and break the last cube, you get more points.

If you finish 8 cosmic buses (stages) and make it to the end of the route, you'll get an extra cosmic bus where you play a match against someone. This becomes your main objective as you practice. But be careful—if you miss too many times with your red ball, you’ll get penalized with a fuckton of seconds, which could make you lose, like it happened to me on this run.

It was developed by Sega Rosso, the same AM team that developed Virtua Tennis before Sega's restructuring/bankruptcy.

I highly recommend COSMIC SMASH to any of you. It's a great SEGA arcade game, but it’s not very well known because it was a NAOMI game that got a Dreamcast port... I think it was before Sonic Adventure 2, around the time the Dreamcast was on its way out.

Cosmic Smash = Virtua Tennis + Breakout + REZ' SOVL

Which emulator to use for SNES these days, I'm mainly looking to play A Link to the Past and Chrono Trigger

I remember playing them on SNES9x before but is there any reason to use something else these days
>>

Snes9x is still great. If you're going for standalone just make sure to grab it from their github because this is where the most up to date version is:

Not them but by the way integer scaling can only be done on one axis if you're playing with a corrected aspect ratio so it's practically useless. Bilinear Sharp looks almost as sharp as nearest except it fixes all problems related to scaling and aspect ratios

Nvidia cares about market share. They send "gifts" to small developers who would, otherwise, have trouble buying their products. By doing that, of course the softwares will be optimized for nvidia, as that's what's equipping the developers' machines.

tl;dr: big company acting solely for their profit. Nothing new under the sun.
>>
>>506768934
They care about their products actually working, not emulation in particular. AMD and Intel on the other hand only care about modern games.

>>
>>506143098
Can I Emulate Steam Deck Games?
>>
>>506791786
Fair. But it wasn't all that bad. Because of being so incipient, emulation had faster and more meaningful advancements, providing quite the ecstasy for the end users. I, at least, had the mentality of "can't wait for this to be fixed, and soon I will be playing that game". Emudevs delivered and plenty of good memories were had.

There's some sort of pessimism nowadays, with even the tiniest bugs triggering a thought of "I won't even report, they won't fix that". Maybe we're too jaded now.
>>
>>506806176
The concept is fine so long as dedicated, knowledgeable devs are involved for each of the systems in question. But if it's one dude dividing his attention among multiple systems, and he is really only interested in one or a few of them at most, then yeah, it's a dumb endeavor. That's part of why higan was a bad idea, as byuu tried to tackle multiple Nintendo systems, but he only cared about SNES to the autistic degree everyone knows him for, so it was the only system worth emulating with it.

It doesn't seem to cause any issues in-game but I keep getting this spammed in the log. All resources I've found online claims that it's caused by a "bad" dump, but I dumped the .iso file using the dumper that is linked on RPCS3's own website.

Ignore it, seriously. It just part of RPCS3 quirkiness. As long as the game run, it doesn't matter what the logs say... Also, silent them in the setting if you don't want to end up with 1GB rar file and destroying your perf in the process... Yeah, they can do that.

An actual wiimote can be used w/ Dolphin easily, or you can approximately it through other controllers decently. Wii U Gamepad's pretty fucked if you wanna do it for-real with all the features like Star Fox. To my knowledge they never figured out how to get the real pad to communicate with a PC via normal means like Bluetooth and Cemu can't use it, and tablets w/ gyro and pad attachments don't work either. If you just want to use the touch screen functions you can limp along using a mouse or tablet/touch screen but it's not great. If you just need gyro, that can be done well enough through any gamepad with gyro sensors in it.

God, I hate modern Miyamoto so much it's unreal. Imagine forcing a developer to gimmick up a game in a franchise already starving for entries so much that it becomes impossible to emulate OR port to anything outside its original platform, and all for a mediocre if not outright bad result in the end.

A Deck's probably the best thing at the moment, but for full-on two screen mode you have to jump through some hoops and you better believe it'll be iffy at best.

>modern Miyamoto
Miyamoto being a talentless hack isn't new. He gets praised for other people's work for most of the games he's "worked on"
>Super Mario Bros.
>The Legend of Zelda
>Super Mario Bros. 3
>Super Mario 64
All games he's praised for that were actually Takashi Tezuka's work
>>
>>506860949
Oh yeah, Tezuka is for sure the real deal, but I don't think you could say Miyamoto actively sabotaged games back then the way he's been doing since at least the 2000's, meddling into every franchise he was invested in at some point and yeeting elements well into development because they didn't fit into his autistic standards of what a game should be. About the only game I can think of where his intrusion may have been for the best was with TP, since Aonuma is an even bigger hack than Miyamoto is and straight-up had no ideas for that game.

Do you happen to know if melonDS has an option somewhere to create a gap between the 2 screens to replicate that of the original console? Most games look fine because they treat them as separate entities, but there are a few games where they're an extension of each other, and developers accounted for the gap on the original device.

It's stupid but I feel that PCSX2 actually emulate performances issues. And the overclocking hack exists to help for this. So maybe you can solve those framedrops by increasing the EE cycle rate way up. However the PS2 was more often GPU limited and as far as I know there's no way to OC the GS in PCSX2, so there might be nothing you can do.

It's fucking shit. Too small. No rumble. Z buttons in a terrible spot. Has to be connected to Wiimote, with the wire coming from the bottom making it awkward to rest. No grips, which makes sticks annoying to reach (they sold a workaround for later on). Odd spacing on face buttons making you basically hold by the edge, etc.
It was a shitty controller, made even worse by the fact basically no game supported it, since it was waggle season.

Also it wasn't made exclusively for VC stuff, otherwise it wouldn't have a second stick, the meme analog+clicky GC triggers, ZR/ZL buttons, etc. It was just a bad designed controller, it would've been much better if they just made a Wii U Pro Controller at the time.
>>
>>507062556
>Wii U Pro Controller at the time.
That would have made even less sense having the sticks on the top.
Anyway, I played fucktons of xenoblade and monster hunter with the classic controller pro and that thing fucking rocked.
>>
>>507062938
>That would have made even less sense having the sticks on the top.
nah, it would have been great. It's pretty good for Wii U VC.

>Anyway, I played fucktons of xenoblade and monster hunter with the classic controller pro and that thing fucking rocked.
yeah because the Pro was trying to adresses some of the issues of the Classic. Still shit tho, should've made it fully wireless and gave it rumble at very least.
>>
>>507063435
rumble is a gimmick
>>
>>507063653
ur a gimmick
>>
>>507063653
The Wii was a gimmick. Would've made a pretty fucking good pair.

Are you autistic
>>
>>507063653
>he didn't find a circular rail in THPS2, use a cheat code to make grinding infinite, turn on rumble, then press the controller against his peepee to feel good
Sad!
>>
>>506990176
I remember that shit. It combines both the disadvantages of wired and wireless, a feat in itself. The pro controller was a bit better (mainly the shoulder buttons), and it's the least depressing solution if you want to use a Wii as an emulation machine; which becomes a worse idea year by year.
>>
>>507069231
best solution is unironically a wavebird or one of these modern controllers to gc adapters
>>
>>507070105
I was actually able to use my DS4 on a modded Wii, shit's dope.
>>
>>507072386
yeah, but it's wired only without an adapter, isn't it?
>>
>>507072573
Nah, I was able to plug my DS4 into one of the Wii's USB slots and it worked fine. USB Loader GX supports DS4 right out of the box.
>>
>>507073128
Also, I believe there's a way to move the Wii's cursor using just the DS4's touchpad, but I haven't gotten that far in Wii modding yet.
>>
>>507073128
so... wired only without an adapter
I think they never found a way to use the internal bluetooth adapter with other controllers
>>
>>507073724
Huh, turns out you CAN pair a DS4 wirelessly to a Wii.
https://oscwii.org/library/app/PairMyDS4
>>
>>507073724
Man up dude, wired but you can use a PlayStation non Tendie controller on your fucking Wii, take it or leave it.
>>
>>507074226
Are you retarded? I already know you can use it wired. That's exactly why I asked. There's even that custom IOS for DS3/DS4 as a Classic Controller, I used it back when I had a Wii.
This anon >>507074138 actually brought something new, which I had never heard of.
>>
>>507074138
Looks like that enables pairing, but support is up to homebrew devs. Nintendont doesn't seem to support it, so doubt anything else does.

Depends on the game, I was just making a point. I checked SC3 myself earlier and i got a 50% boost in speed while uncapped using DX11 over VK just idle in training. Considering PCSX2 defaults to VK for most modern GPUs, that tiny bit of accuracy can be a huge perf hit.
>>
>>507100920
It seems the current average BR is mortally allergic to a PC. If you have the money for a high-end cellphone, then why not just get a regular computer, with much better emulation support and performance? It's asinine, like cutting off your own leg, then keeping excited for any advancements in prosthesis.

>>
>>507102958
I'm BR and honestly PC is still big for gaming. It's just that some zoomers never touched one and all they know is their phones.
>>
>>507102958
It makes sense when you consider the vast majority of poorfag BRs probably didn't own a PC growing up, but anyone could get a cheapo phone, so that's what they know, and so moving up for them isn't moving to a PC they have no clue how to use, but to a better phone.
>>
I blame Free Fire.
>>
>>507103691
I'm also BR, but I've been noticing that PC gets further and further from the mainstream. If you go to specialized message boards, then, sure, you get the impression everything seems fine. Go outside and things change. Newer generations are also a thing, like >>507103708 mentioned, but I frequently see old monkeys, raised on PCs, unexplainably embracing smartphones. So I really don't know what gives.
>>
>>507106951
I don't visit specialized forums/boards, just skirm through social media a bit. But I know zoomers since my young brother is one of them. His friends all have PCs they use to play mostly shit like Counter Strike, LoL, Valorant, the usual F2P stuff. I think only poorfags raised on Free Fire have no interest on PCs.
>>
>>507107931
Maybe that's the answer, a combination of poorfags and zoomers. Curiously, there are a few youtubers catering to those people, but the comment section is full of viewers who seem neither young, nor poor. Perhaps just outliers.
>>
>>507107931
>>507108457
I think it's just people like me who once thought gaming on a phone was a good idea until I tried. I hope.
Normalfags aren't usually into complex stuff like emulation, specially on a phone where shit gets convoluted pretty quick, specially if you need something that is not already on the Play Store.

Always US, latest revision. Unless you need a language that is only available on the EU version or there's some extra content there. Or if a revision censors or breaks something.

If these are Redump compilant, then it's only a matter of personal taste, language or I don't know what version difference shit that may exist and matter only for the Smash autists.

Excellent article. Thank you. It's true and happens everywhere. In our context:
>Video game
Competitive gaming is a cancer, especially in genres like fighting. Gone are the days of fiddling around with a friend by your side. Now there are huge charts of data and frames, plus third-party hardware to extract the better performance possible. Matches are more like a choreography than feeling.
>Emulation
Things need to be perfect because... because they need to, ok?! Make an emulator significantly heavier for a non-perceptible change just because it's supposed to be "accurate"™.

Some underage third-world pajeet took it upon himself to autistically shit up the J2ME page on the emugen wiki with endless pics and tables with technical information of like a hundred mobile Java games no one cares about. Many such tables featured information about screen resolution, misspelled as "resulation" over and over and over again. Only reason we caught wind of it is because this same pajeet was part of an emugen wiki discord that had nothing to do with actual emugen and had actual literal trannies in it, and he managed to convince a then-admin to not only join the discord, but promote it in the front page of the wiki. A huge shitstorm ensued here, the discord got baleeted, the admin resigned (before changing his mind and then getting immensely assblasted when the real admin refused to admin him again), and resulation came out a meme from the whole ordeal.
