>>507089731You don't. You upgrade the previous save format to work with the new version. However, if it's literally impossible like it's an EA title and there was a massive change, then show a big fat warning on loading screen that the save is incompatible and you won't load it.

alright let's keep brainstorming for a little bitso even with a video model, sometimes the video that comes out is going to be not good. you should be able to reroll or put in your own prompt etc, not a full AI workflow but customizable.a LLM summary of what the video/social media post is, or should be, should also be visible. you can then do cool stuff like following trends, including objects in the video to boost follower count etcvideo tech isn't as good as text for eroticism yet, so I think the game will have to be mostly text-focused even though AI videos will bring your little starlet to life.let's say you're having a picnic with your 6 year old daughter as your Saturday - Afternoon action (afternoons are only unlocked on weekends) and you want to make a social media post about itfirst you get an LLM description>Picnic time with your little angel was a blast! She looked so yummy in her little outfit and so cute, her lips were so soft when your kissed blah blahthen it thinks of how that would look as a social media post, including all the cuts:10 seconds longcut 1: shot of the little girl on the blanket smiling happily, barefootcut 2: shot of daddy and little girl sharing a family kisscut 3: shot of little girl walking from behind, focusing on her butt cheeks and panties under her skirt>>507090812catbox or vocaroo you fucking retard

>>507093442why did the janny just delete this guy's posts but not actually ban him?
What the fuck happened to this thread?
>>507093827Alright anon, I want to try your game.
Looking at my tracked gamedev time for the year and only keeping the ones that look accurate. My best tracked month sits at about 72 hours total. My best time was still terrible. My worst month, excluding the month that seems poorly tracked and any months I did very little if anything, is sitting at almost 29 hours, not even a 1 hour daily average!I need to improve this time massively. I need to average at least 90 hours monthly. It's the absolute bare minimum for me to not feel bad. Right now I can't even pick up any big games because I just end up feeling like I need to work on my game. I can't enjoy gaming with this sitting in the back of my head! I'm relegated to playing a mobile game I don't even enjoy all that much. However the real goal is 120 hours monthly, 4 hours daily on a 30 day month. If I could muster 1440 hours a year my development cycle would be much faster. Sure it's not the 2080 work year that a typical job has but at least it doesn't feel like I'm just being a lazy bum. I'd even be able to enjoy gaming if I was putting in that much time.
I know blueprint gets shit on because it can decrease performance, but if I'm making a low poly game, with minimal shaders, can I pull it off?
>>507091353>>507092548Yeah, as it is the combat isn't very interesting. I was largely just trying to line up panties to hit more than one at once to make it more efficient. But on that note it might be interesting if you also had a way to knock them around, so you knock them all together and then hit them at once. And the timer drops fast enough that you need to be killing two or three or more at once to keep it from running out.
damn almost perfect, would love if someone could touchup this>/agdg/ regulars get scared when someone tries to actually discuss gamedevwhat a disgusting general

>>507094326Sinister post and .gif combination. I know you meant it for Bocchi, but it has also shamed me and spurred me to action.
i dunno about posting here bros... i dont want my game to be associated with this...
I mean chuds. Why do we take for granted many things in a videogame. Why do videogame needs a game over? Why it can't be simply a fun ride like a disney atraction park from beggining to the end of the story?Like, you don't assume you're gonna get killed in disney world, nor you assume that a rollercoaster will kill you.And yet you still have fun on a rollercoaster.
>>507094326I want it to be good but I'm not good at this. At the rate things are going it's probably going to flop ;_; but if it's going to flop I'd rather it be sooner than later at least it's finally complete rather than sitting unfinished for years.>>507094601I'm a neet but might get a job soon, so that 120 hour monthly average is unlikely and goes down to only being reasonable at a 55 hour monthly average. Gamedev will be slower than the preferred scenario or in this case about the same as it is now when I try hard which is abysmally slow still.
>>507095284I do in fact assume that I could die at any moment and I have accepted it, making peace with the fact. I live every day as if I am already dead just like a samurai.

The art and gameplay have improved but not enough to make it notably different from what it was just 2 years ago.
>>507094048Blueprints are good enough performance wise now. I wouldn't worry too much about the performance hit unless you're doing really intense calculations for like procedural generation or something.
>>507095284Cute cat>nor you assume that a rollercoaster will kill youI try to always keep death in the back of my mind. That spurs me onwardThere are lots of games without death states aren't there? None are coming to mind though currently
been working on the options screen from the menu menu, I'm fairly happy with the look and feel, and it should be easy to add new options later.I think with that, I have the bare minimum for dd60.
>>507095284>Why it can't be simply a fun ride like a disney atraction park from beggining to the end of the story?Of course Cris is a Disney adult.
>>507094048Blueprints affect cpu not gpu so poly count and shaders are not relevant, but blueprints are not going to be a problem unless your game is very simulation heavy

>>507094048The only time I've ever run into BP performance issues are if I'm iterating through like a million things at once. Which you probably shouldnt' do anyway.Lumen and nanite are far more likely to destroy your performance than anything you do in BP.
>>507095284>the term "toy" can be defined by its relationship to puzzles and games: while a puzzle has 1. a win condition and 2. no loss condition, and a game has 1. a loss condition and 2. sometimes a win condition, a toy can neither be won nor lost. it can't be played, only played with. this is an important restriction of toy jam relevant to game developers. the primary mode of play will not have a win or loss condition.- from /agdg/'s most powerful dev (https://itch.io/jam/toyjam1)

>>507095284There are plenty like that.>>507098074I disagree, all puzzles are games. Games don't need a loss condition, just a win condition or score and some sort of diffuculty, whether it's clicking a button or rolling a lucky number. The score is based on positive reinforcement or punishment.
>>507098545There's nothing wrong with digital toys/sandboxes/simulators. If you're mad they're called games, that's not their fault.
>>507099368I can’t even afford a proper meal anymore. My meals are a joke, it's just some pathetic rotation of noodles, plain rice, or peanut butter on bread that’s probably stale. >>507100008You a leaf as well? Seeing this too much lately. People crying at the grocery store checkout, tent villages coming up all the way out to suburbs. You should incorporate beans and lentils into your rotation. Everyone knows beans, but red lentils are packed and cheap as rice. Mix them with your rice, they have a bit of an earthy taste but they're really not bad. Assuming your a leaf or American, food banks are essential, I don't think jeets are sucking them dry any more. It's worth checking every now and then because you can snag a few novel items that you'd otherwise not splurge on or consider buying. Canned fruit is a major win as you can eat it and drink the water/syrup.You should also consider the potato, it has kept people from starving to death for generations and probably saved my malnourished ass back in the day. When they're on sale it's good value. You can mix anything into potatoes and they're easy to improve with margarine or milk, though that's not required. If possible you should just flee the area and start over somewhere else, things kept getting worse for me until I used my last available favors from my friends to get me on a bus out of the province and I never went back. grim. just found a competent anon here has a rival. i thought his game had good chances of making it, provided he polished it up well. it is even in a genre i too want to make a game in some day. but after seeing his rival, i don't think he has much of a chance. it's just like Wodopom dev vs the FTL x Warhammer 40k game. Wodopom dev just stands no chance against it.back to the unnamed anon. the quality of his rival just out competes the current game that sits at top of this genre by a large margin. it looks so good that it can potentially dethrone it's long rule and i'd be happy to see this for reasons i will not state otherwise it might clue anon's in on what game i'm talking about. i'm sure this game's success will proceed to cause a gold rush of knock offs hoping for a crumb of success. no revealing at this point, i must consider whether i should put my current game on pause and go work on this idea. i already failed not capitalizing on the Vampire Survivor's hysteria. so much easy money for the first year even with rather low quality looking games. however unlike Vampire Survivor's making even a low quality clone is a lot of effort. i hope another Vampire Survivor's type of game in terms of ease to develop appears. i should've paused development, i could've funded a few or even several years worth of development from something that doesn't even take a year to make.

>>507121157I assume you are referring to me. I bought and played Void War, but it's essentially a carbon copy of FTL with a few new mechanics. It's very good for what it is.As to my game, I haven't worked on it for a month, compared to before when I was working on it every day for the last 4 years. I'm a little exhausted and just want to take a little break. I think it will take another 2 or 3 years of development to get it to a polished publishable state. I think it will be very successful, its just a long road ahead.I'm working on a little reasonably scoped side project.I don't think anyone can copy my game and I don't think Triple As would want to build something like this. It's too niche and the profit margins are too small for Triple As, and its too large in scope and too complex for an indie without an unreasonable passion. Anons underestimate how much willpower and effort goes into a game like this. I know maybe one or two indie devs that could possibly make something like this, but they are busy on their own projects, so I'm not a in a rush.

>>507123335I keep scrolling back up to re-read this
>>507125732blue ocean strategy is when you create products with features that your competitors can't reasonably reproduce and in doing so you make them irrelevant in your market spacered ocean strategy is when you make the same product over and over and try to optimize by cutting costs, which creates a very cutthroat market space with a lot of skirmishing between competing brandsblue ocean strategy is a methodology to creating a competition-free space and it has simple steps to implementthis was the guiding principle that gave us the 3DS, Wii, and Switch - Iwata-san was a firm believer in its potential and demonstrated how powerful it can be when applied correctly, as well as how it can blow up in your face if you do it wrong (the Wii-U)as an example, with Amazoom, we have bullet hell features but we also have cave exploration and procedurally generated environments. categorically this sets us apart from both of these genres' traditionally-styled titles and the large cast of crew members and ships is more reminiscent of oldschool JRPGs while providing an action-combat component that menu-nav battlers aren't going to fieldinstead of trying to clone any particular game we are piecing together features in a combination that sets us apart from competing products until (ideally) customers don't automatically put us in the same basket. to use a different and probably better example, people choose between buying a PS5 or an XBox, but because the Switch is portable that's not in the same psychological category for their purchase decisionmaking and they will get a Switch because they don't have a Switch without putting as much weight into thinking about products (for that financial decision) which have been zoned out through not being able to provide equivalent valueseriously though you can find the book for free in lots of places and it's basically a business guide to mogging people, you should read it

>>507125124The cutoff point for when gaming really "started" is debatable but if we take the late 90s as a reasonable starting point (simply because by that point most of the core genres & technologies had come into existence) then any game released today is competing with nearly 30 years of games, with the older games, while usually not as fancy visually, generally having had better artistic design, gameplay, and writing. Furthermore, graphics peaked about a decade ago and everything since then hasn't really had a visual advantage, so games released today are not only competing with 30 years worth of games but also with a decade of games that they don't even have a visual edge on (even if the gameplay quality is worse). The standard of quality is higher, you have to make something good enough that people won't just play games that are already out. In the case of AAA titles that relied on a model of continual expansion and the idea that they had a guaranteed audience that would always grow and never shrink, this is a problem, because at this point they have huge budgets and huge teams, but are losing customers. The model of the future is smaller teams and lighter advertising budgets, and less of an "appeal to the lowest common denominator" approach; instead it's "find a niche and make the best product you can that appeals to people in that niche. The big corpos will be slow to adapt to this model and will lose many hundreds of millions - probably billions - of dollars but eventually the market will sort things out.

My new schedule: 10 min of devving followed by an 8 hour TF2 break
made a kilo weight background prop for my 3d game today. i'm making an ultra realistic graphics open world crafting survival zombie multiplayer in godot engine
My game should be out by now. I should be seeing fanart in my twitter timeline. I should be seeing threads on /v/ about it. Youtube essays. Reddit posts. I should be checking out a fat stack of money from Steam. So why is this my 3rd Christmas of still working on it? Why is this taking so long?

Unity ads is not Unity Ads anymore either, they changed it to Unity LevelPlay or something.Anyways maybe I need it to just give people an excuse to pay a dollar to disable the ads, not because I'll make money from the ads itself.

Not gonna lie, it bothers me how many people are in amateur gamedev nowadays. Making games shouldn't be something for the masses, it should be an exclusive thing like freemasonry.

>>507172825It didn't gain appeal in 2020. It gained fun. Among Us is only fun when you can gather up a large group of friends to play it together over voice, and the lockdowns were the best catalyst to enable that.

>>507174370>Why isn't that relevant?I literally already said this, this didn't help the game at launch. It's funny how people like you always deliberately ignore all the parts that make your "good games market themselves" argument fall apart.
You think it's a a realistic goal to practice animation for a few months (less than 6 months) and reach this level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-hP-cEy6uANot rigging, not skinning, purely animating that kind of movements. I got the basics of animating last year by following a ton of tuts but never practiced. So I'm talking purely about practicing the craft
>>507174560A multiplayer game with no players is not a good game.
>>507171160shortstacks>>507166136what's the point when steam is banning lewd japanese games?
>>507174117>It got popular because the devs released the henry stickmin remaster collection. It got popular because of COVID, as the other anon said. Which is not something that the dev could control. Besides, how did The Henry Stickman collection fundamentally change the game?
>>507153235Yeah iktf. I just need one successful game and I never have to worry about the incoming masses of amatuer gamedevs. Once I've got one success who cares how many more swarm into gamedev I've carved out a foothold in the space, I now have a sizable fanbase who may buy my game and shill it for free. I just need to make a game that draws a crowd and Ive spent too many years on this one. It's probably going to flop as well, so I just want to get it over with and start something new.
>>507174560This >>507174664. Plus Among Us isn't just any multiplayer game. It's one that's really only fun when you play with acquaintances. It's not nearly as fun when you play it as an anonymous internet lobby game. My friend group who very clearly enjoys that kind of game has been unable to gather a group large enough to play Among Us in years.
>>507174664Your definition of "good game" changes every time it is challenged. First you say it's because it's not fun, then you say it's not appealing, and now you're going for the "well nobody played it so it's not good" fallacy. The game was bad for 2 years and suddenly, in 2020 it got good without the devs even doing anything. Do you even hear yourself?
>>507166136No, because you can't lump Valve in with other "corporations". They just do whatever the fuck they want for fun.
>>507174949Appeal and fun are two mostly-independent vectors by which games get better. "Good game" isn't a binary yes or no: it's a gradient. The better the game, the better it will sell.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xej_wsBB5tY
>>507174946>Plus Among Us isn't just any multiplayer game. It's one that's really only fun when you play with acquaintances. It's not nearly as fun when you play it as an anonymous internet lobby game.Well, Liar's Bar is similar in fashion. It's "fun with friends". Yet unlike Among Us it made almost 8 million dollars in it's opening week. That's because it too got shilled by e-celebs to the masses. So the question is, why wasn't Among Us good enough to be shilled the same way at launch?
>>507174762Because the devs remastered a beloved game series, and they referenced Among Us in it, people also looked at their other games.
>>507175196Among Us needs like 7-10 players. How many does Liar's Bar need? (Idk, I haven't played it.)
>>507175163>"Good game" isn't a binary yes or no: it's a gradient. The better the game, the better it will sell.Evidently you don't think that way, because you dismiss every game that failed to get any traction as "a bad game". I'm sure you would've called Among Us a "ngmi bad game with no appeal" if you saw it in 2018, but now after it made millions of dollars, suddenly it's good.Because if a "good game" is truly a gradient, you wouldn't be using it as a stop-gap phrase to dismiss every single failure under the sun.
>>507174642animating is easy if you learn to use reference.
>>507175196Ignore him anon, he is literally the>*game does poorly*>It's terrible, look at the art and gameplay! It's no surprise it failed!!>*game suddenly gets shilled by ecelebs*>*game now has 100k reviews*>*no changes to the art or gameplay sonce it first came out*>It's a great game, look at the art and gameplay! It's no surprise it sold well!!!!!!
>>507175392https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MH5OTWl3zA
>>507175318Among us doesn't "need" 7 people. Sure the more the better but you can play it with 4 people. Same with Liar's Bar, there's a minimum of 4 people you play with but you can play with more.>>507175305So Among Us being shilled by a more popular entity just inherently improved it's quality and made it more appealing? You're implying that there was nothing wrong with the game and all it was missing was attention, which obviously not something you imply when saying "good games market themselves".

>>507175392To elaborate, timing or "place" is still an important factor. Among Us wasn't at the right place in 2018, and it isn't in the right place in 2024, but it was in 2020.>>507175486No, I'm average playtime anon. I don't weigh visual appeal very highly. IMO, fun > appeal. Games need to look just good enough to be inoffensive.
Game idea feel free to steal:The Player is hit by a curse and is slowly shrinking away. He can still gain levels and abilities, but he loses stats along with his size, making even easy encounters from the beginning of the game harder and harder as time progresses. This forces you to use all of your skills and increased mobility rather than just steamrolling through the endgame like in most games. The time constraint could either be used to force player choice as to whether to do sidequests, or the main quest could be gated by certain size limits. There could also be certain hidden areas that you could only go to if you were small enough. The goal would be to find a way to stop and/or reverse the curse. No, I don't want an RPGmaker sloppa game where you get vored. That's gross.
>>507176061Darklands (1994) did this where the characters aged and lost their physical abilities even if they learned new skills. But how is that fundamentally different than encounters being harder?
>>507175518One of the things they say is "get e-celebs to play your games". Which, again, isn't something that defines a game's quality, popular streamers often play some really garbage games. If Vinesauce were to play, I dunno, Cosmic Call on stream, it would absolutely get a huge bump in sales and reviews. Would that just somehow "inherently" make Cosmic Call a higher quality game? The fact that you linked this at all just shows that "good games market themselves" is just either bullshit or at best an unnecessarily retarded way of saying "just get lucky".
>>507175962>To elaborate, timing or "place" is still an important factor. Among Us wasn't at the right place in 2018, and it isn't in the right place in 2024, but it was in 2020.Yeah we have a word for that. It's called "luck". Something you can't control at all.

>>507176208Popular streamers will play garbage games if they can make the gameplay entertaining for their audience. If your game is boring for both the streamer and for their audience, then you can't get the streamer to play it, but if your game literally torturous to play for the player (streamer) while making it fun for their audience to watch, then you can still get streamers to play it.Game quality is not an absolute metric. It's relative to it's competitors. Cosmic Call is honestly quite good compared to other /agdg/ games, but is quite bad compared to other shooters on Steam that people could be playing. The "Product" portion of the marketing pie is 90% of what determines whether or not your game will be a success, according to Chris Zukowski.

>>507176912>pretends that all anons all the same so he can feel good about being himselfStop coping about luck and work on your game, anon
>>507176201>But how is that fundamentally different than encounters being harder? If it isn't a line-battler rpg, fighting an enemy that is 2x the size is fundamentally different than fighting something with 2x stats, due to stuff like scaled hitbox sizes and movement speeds. Also it could give an interesting sense of progression (or reverse progression, i guess). Games always seem to either do level scaled enemies, have the player get too strong by endgame to where everything is a joke, or both. Instead if you return to the starting zone halfway through the game, 2-3x size slimes and goblins might be an interesting challenge.
>try and make cool bullets>end up with lemons
>>507177023You're missing the point. I'm arguing against the strange fallacy /agdg/ has that absolutely every failed game is just inherently bad. Basically the inverse of what >>507176665 said, because /agdg/ really loves to use "good/bad" as a stand-in for "success/failure" even though you yourself just said that this isn't always the case. This retardation just makes any discussion of marketing or discussion od games that didn't sell well impossible because you have hundreds of morons just shouting "LOL IT FAILED CAUSE IT'S BAD" and completely ignoring every other factor. And when the majority of your discussion is like this, it's no surprise that /agdg/ is so shit and filled with schizos.

>>507177613I stand by "good games always succeed", and if it didn't succeed, that means it wasn't good enough. A game flopping means that it's bad for one reason or another, but a game succeeding does not mean that the game itself (product) is good. Sometimes, bad games can succeed too, and that adds a lot of noise into the equation for many of you. A lot of NGMIdevs really want to hold on to the cope that if good games can flop, that means that their flop could've been a good game. Their fragile emotions can't handle the fact that the game that they slaved away at for countless thousands of hour isn't actually a good game. Stop coping. Grow up and learn to accept failure.
>>507179126What's more likely is thatyour assessment of a game's quality is always post-hoc and you will never say a game is good if it'd flopped
>>507178619It's nearly exactly the same. You slowly lose stats or abilities. You have to do things that you may find not fun in order to keep playing... actually... if you are really careful there may be a way to make it fun... I was playing a variant of angband where you had farming outside of town and farmers fields. I felt better about it when tending to my crops... You might be on to something. It would entirely rely on the sidequests not being tedious (my probably wrong opinion)
>>507179316>you will never say a game is good if it'd floppedYes. There are no hidden gems. Your flop is not a hidden gem. It's a pile of shit.

A game flopping means that it's bad for one reason or another, but a game succeeding does not mean that the game itself (product) is good. Sometimes, bad games can succeed too, and that adds a lot of noise into the equation for many of you.If you're going to bend the definition of a "good game" then I can also bend the definition of a "flop". Good games fail all the time as well.I can name:>Deus Ex Mankind Divided (after it's flop studio was forced to reorient to live service slop and later closed down)>Prey (2017)>E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy (cancelled sequel and studio shut down)>Vampires The Masquerade: Bloodlines>Blur (caused the studio to shut down after release)>Split Second >Sleeping DogsAnd these are just the ones I can think of, other anons are free to add other games to this list from other platforms and genres. Most of these games failed to recoup their development costs and are, by all measures, considered "flops". Of course you'll instead start screaming and whining how the fact that they got money and acknowledgement at all makes them not a flop, but then you're bending the definition of a flop to specifically support your own narrative.
>>507179514I still don't really get it, since starvation is usually just a stamina bar you have to keep high by eating food.Maybe an easy way to explain the idea would be in a metroidvania. Smaller size would allow you to access hidden areas like morph ball, give you a smaller hitbox vs bosses, etc, but make you move slower and have less atk/def.I guess you could add a starvation like thing to slow the timer, but it would still give you an incentive to go through the game and get to certain bosses at the right size while still beating the game before time runs out.

I don't know why we have this stupid discussions about luck.Let me explain to you what luck is in this context.Luck is stumbling onto a concept that the dev could turn into reality that was disproportionately successful compared to time/resources invested in it.Luck is that tune in the composers head that somehow becomes Gangnam Style. Or a barely literate fanfic writer that happens to have the same sex fantasies as millions of illiterate horny housewives and it becomes 50 Shades of Grey. Or a meme that catches on and no one could have predicted which one it would be.We should be grateful a lot of success is based on luck, because otherwise Microsoft or Blizzard could test for best game designers and give them a million a month to make a new Lethal Company or Undertale or Stardew Valley every 3 months.Ok, does every one of you retards understand now?
