Well yeah but the difference is that if you miss and hit the shield you're melted. Even if you aimpunch them you're still taking damage. You will always take zero damage unless you somehow miss with the Halt. And the Halt also stuns multiple targets. I've stunned up to 3 Heavy Devs with one shot before. Diligence can't do that.

It's great on bots; makes all the midrange clankers trivial when they would normally eat up a shitload of boolets, you can shoot down gunships in 2-3 shots, you can take out Hulks at a safe distance with a full volley. It just doesn't handle cannon emplacements that well, and doesn't do much to robo-dogs.
Overall, it seemed to pair well with the Liberal Penetrator for me.

It takes down gunships in two rockets, and can destroy bunker turrets pretty quick too which is nice, but against other heavy units it's hit or miss. Sometimes the rockets will find their way to the proper weak spots and take them out with a magazine, sometimes it doesn't do shit. Haven't found a reason to use the artillery mode, every time I switch to it I can't tell if it does anything, I see it fire off and explode over a crowd but nothing seems to die.
Maybe it's more of a medium unit clearer? I can shoot devastator heads and rocket strider racks just fine with base Liberator so I don't see the point of using it for that. If it could lock onto multiple targets I might see more worth in it

They serve two very different purposes. The Spear is for killing super tough targets in a single shot, while the Wasp has trouble with heavies but can kill medium enemies in one or two shots (assuming the missile tracks properly).

Against bots, it's only reliable against medium targets like Devastators, but it's super good at that. Killing a Hulk can take 1 or 2 magazines depending on how lucky you are with the hits, though it seems to kill Factory Strider dorsal turrets fairly reliably in 1 magazine. I would pair it with an AT Emplacement if possible, that lets you kill virtually everything in the game.

That's how all enemies act, once you enter their field of vision they take a second or two to get ready to attack. The situations that you're thinking of are when a Devastator already knows where you are and is already shooting at you even with a wall between the two of you.

It's currently best on the bot front, as a hard counter to devastators and gunships. Inconsistent vs heavier units though but it can kill hulks and tanks if you're lucky. In terms of overall effectiveness vs bots it's probably just behind the AMR

You can do that with Reshade Shader Toggler (Enabled after destroying the Shredder and disabled before finishing all the Heavy Devastators). I didn't hunt down every shader but you should be able to remove all effects if you actually take your time, I just use it if there's too much smoke from destroyed Dropships and Hulks lowering my FPS

Can we just make the bugs faster than the player character? Hunters should not be able to be outpaced with normal running they're fucking HUNTERS. Every bug should be, at minimum, the same speed as you with most of them being faster.

Match sprinting speed, maybe a little faster. They should be able to pressure you at all times with the jumping and catching up if you aren't paying attention since they fold like a wet noodle.

If you're letting alpha brood commanders hang back and spam them consistently, then you have a skill issue and should lower the difficulty.

I think they should BARELY outpace your sprint, keep their alpha variant the same as the normal in speed. Their threat should be bringing in more, not in them killing you themselves. Their charge is really good pressure though as is.

They seem fine as is. Especially the biles. Maybe make nursery spewers constantly bring in leapers and scavs around them while they live, every few seconds spawn another pair.
>Shriekers and Stalkers
Fine as is. Add them into the base spawn pool as well though, the shriker patrols are cool but they should be regular on bug planets. Stalkers should come with breeches on higher diffs, just a couple.
>Chargers
They're mostly fine as is, maybe they need to bowl over regular bugs if they're mid charge. I still hate their turning speed mid charge though.
>Titans
Make them stronger. I miss them being a threat. AT is so strong as is they barely exist unless you're retarded and bring absolutely nothing to kill them. Maybe we need an alpha variant for higher diffs like behemoths to chargers.

The problem is that since we have proper weapons now, all the vets that had to develop strategies to efficiently kill the most bothersome enemies can now do so even more effortlessly. Take the Charger for instance. The Charger at its peak bullshit levels was still trivial: let it pass you and shoot 5 shots into it's ass with the AC or roughly 7 shots with the Scorcher. Bile Titan? Shoot both sacks out with 3 shots from the Scorcher and toss a Railcannon or 500kg and it's a guaranteed 2 second kill, or 5 seconds with the 500kg that can kill multiple. Or you could also have used the Quasar. On the bot front the only problems were Cannons, Heavy Devs and Rocket devs but those died to the Scorcher or even the Punisher easily. Rocket Striders and Factory Striders didn't exist yet. These same players are now complaining because the game they optimized the fun out of is now about having that FUN instead of running around 15 heavies like a rodeo clown to Benny Hill music.

Blitz mission, squids. A patrol called a drop, I see a pack of voteless behind us while we're on the way to extraction with an elevated overseer flying above it so I hit it with WASP artillery not realizing the host had run under the overseer presumably to go farm yellow number, killed him on accident and reinforced him and apologized. My mistake big time all things told.
During extraction he teamkilled me with a shot to the back of the head and extracted alone and left the samples on purpose.
Was a very annoying game overall because I brought a WASP specifically to kill overseers and a flamer specifically to kill chaff because I saw we had a guy with AMR, another with recoilless, etc and thought, "Harvesters will be handled" but during extraction we were being mobbed by a half dozen Harvesters who managed to march all the way to the dropship. One of the guys crashed or disconnected I think at this point, but he extracted then closed the lobby.

The only issue at release wasn't that the game was too easy, it was really fun being hyperefficient killing machine, it was just that 90% of the arsenal that wasn't Railgun/Breaker was at best style points pick. There was an optimal way to play and all other ways had significant weaknesses, but even playing optimally Level 9 Extract Civilians Bot Missions were nigh impossible.
When that got nerfed it was just a downwards slope of using the next best thing, like Flamehtrower to Charger leg, etc. but that didn't change the core of having to use unfun shit because the next step down was noticeably worse. If you saw someone in your lobby using "off-meta" stuff you just had to carry some of their weight.
Now I don't think anyone gives a shit about what other people use. Shitters still fold at low difficulty, HDGbabs still clear 10 without fail. Arguably it IS easier since people aren't having their shit pushed in so hard they have to figure out meta loadouts but that's fine, game still has plenty of oh shit moments but it's harder to just death spiral.

Bugs are literally designed as a faction for ten year olds to be able to fight. I gave my 10 year old cousin a game against bugs on Easy/D2 and he handled it without a fucking problem. D2 mostly puts you up against scavs, hunters, and warriors with the rare occasional hive guard. Then I put him up against D2 ayys and the voteless swarm fucked him up as the random, every other 3 minute spawn of a single melee overseer was like putting him up against a brick wall. The only way to make bugs hard would be to give every single one of their units an alpha version that is specifically designed for players in the highest of difficulties.

I think one of the issues is that they have a hard time understanding what makes an enemy threatening.
When the game releases they were surprised that people were clearing D9. The game was hard and with mechanics made to fuck you, so they circumvented it (the leg meta)
They acted like nothing was wrong with dev spam and being one shot by rockets coming in volleys of 6 directly towards your position from 150 meters away.
Now they nerfed the accuracy of enemies, and "some" damage, but at their core they remain the same.
Another example : squids are not a threat. Why ? Because they just don't hit you. When they do they absolutely nuke your health. Jetpackers have the potential to be one of the most obnoxious enemy in the game, but they simply nerfed the accuracy instead of making them consistantly hit but at a lower damage value.

The damage output of the enemies doesnt feel changed, it just feel locked with ball and chain behind the accuracy values. Factory striders and cannon turrets don't have those issues (one with volume of fire, the second with almost perfect accuracy and ragdoll) and they're two of the most killy enemies in the game, IF they get to shoot you.

I feel like this about a lot of enemies. They never hit you, but when they do it's usually a very fast, if not instant, death.
It's a weird way to get around to making the enemy threatening, because it's not your abilities that are involved, it's the RNG of "is the enemy gonna hit me this time".
Should enemies instakill you if they get one burst of damage in (Scout striders my hated enemy) ?

But I understand what you're saying. I think given the pre-fab looking cities and how widespread the Super Earth empire is that it just makes sense to mass produce absolutely everything, including the floorplans of each and every radar station, pelican landing pad, or emergency evacuation airport.
My other thought is the completely baseless and retarded "what if" headcannon I came up with one time where the galaxy as a whole has been absolutely, 100%, undeniably made safe by the voting algorithms. The issue i have with buffing bug speed is that there'd be no counterplay to it, it would simply be the current kiting meta taken to its extreme.

That's just boring as shit. Do bugs need fixing ? Yes, all factions do. Bugs are just worse off because they don't shoot you back like bots or even squids.
Squids are what happens if you took the bugs and gave them guns, and having two factions with the same mechanics isnt gonna contribute to the longevity of the game.

There's an answer to the difficulty issue, but i don't think it's a simple game of "buff or nerf". It goes beyond that, with what the enemy can and cannot do. If you buff them they become oppressive, if you nerf them they become too easy.
The issue is enemy mechanics (and enemy AI ?), not just numbers. Enemies spawn, they do their thing (shoot, try to melee, run around). They arent smart or crafty. it's very simple, and worked well with the first game due to the screenspace limitation. Now we have freedom so if the enemies don't destroy you when they get their damage window, you can just kite/avoid/prepare or even kill them before they get it.

I'm typing this in the void and im annoyed by it. People seem to think it's a simple issue when it's not, end nobody acknowledges that changing the format of the game did more than change the player PoV

What are you gonna do ? You'll nuke it from as far as you can because if they get close you lose. It won't be a fight, it'll be an artillery game.

To beat an enemy, you exploit the advantages you have over it, whether it's numerical or skill based. The only advantage you'd have over bugs is range (and brain although it's arguable for helldivers). The moment they get to you, you lose. You can't get away from them, so you'd need to kill them before that.

Enemy design need to take something into account, whether the enemy is more or less powerful than you.
If it's more powerful, it needs ways to not instakill you and let the player interact with it.
If it's less powerful, it needs ways to balance the odds (usually by being more numerous)
If it's your equal, then it becomes simply down to skill (as if, AI is never your equal).
All balancing must be done in relation to the player character or archetype. Making the bugs faster than the player character would still make it one dimensionally, just in another way

"Meta" is dictated by the most simple and/or efficient methods devised by the players.
Most people won't do what you do and go melee only against the melee faction.

I look at starcraft and 40k's tyranids for ideas about bugs being better at fucking you. I think it's that bugs just don't have many "support" units, if any. It's just

The only kind of support unit i can think of is the spore charger, which actually prevents you from using your best advantage until it's killed : range. It obscures the enemy so you HAVE to remove it to be able to interact with bugs again. I just don't understand why they made it also a killing unit by being a charger and a bomb at the same time

Adding bugs that can help other achieve their kill condition would help, i think. Whether you rebalance the entire faction to have lesser bugs basically enable bigger, more important bugs or introduce new, supporting units.

I think the spore charger should also increase damage taken by Helldivers, but Helldivers are already so squishy it'd be ridiculous. Id say the impaler also counts as a support bug, given its job is to harrass you with tentacles, as well as Shriekers.

Make it a larger (Bile spewer size) version of the shield guys with a larger crest that bugs hide behind. Make this crest destructible. Weirdly Chargers technically already fulfill this role.

You also need to take the identity of the faction into account, and whether what we see is all we are getting or if more units will change the flow. Are the terminids just this horde faction that you can infinitely kite, or are they supposed to work differently ? Are the units im suggesting a good idea in relation to what is intended by the devs ?
The squids basically work the way bugs kinda should, with one chaff enemy horde taking your attention and another enemy being the one that supposedly should kill you.

I think another thing arrowhead made a mistake with is trying to artificially inflate the difficulty with mission modifiers instead of having in-faction ways to deal with you or enable others to deal with you.

The bugs work in one way and one way only : they get to you in melee and they try to kill you there. They just can't get there.
Carrier bugs, spawner bugs, protecting bugs, healing bugs, overall supporting bugs enabling others is what i think would be the best way to fix bugs. Ways to have them disrupt your flow without resorting to simply killing you.
The game needs to have ways to throw wrenches in your plans without being a simple "i kill you" or enabling an automatic kill. Acid kind of but not really fulfills this role for the bugs, as it slows you down/damages you even if you win the fight, which is kinda annoying in its own right because it's ubiquitous to 5+ units

It's also hard to do that specific last part in a game where we are supposed to die as much as helldivers.

I'm kinda running out of steam here. I don't know if i can fix the entire game by spitballing ideas like that, or if the problems are deeper and go back to the drawing board

Chargers technically fit the shield bug niche but also not really.
They take your attention, but they don't protect the other bugs. They are simply just another enemy trying to kill you and steer your attention away from other matters. They are basically the equivalent of a battering ram more than a shield.

Also, watcher as in a slowing unit or watcher as in a unit summoning reinforcements ? cause that's already what most bugs do when they see you

Not being able to kill tank equivalent (chargers) with anti tank weapons was kinda retarded. Also the GLOWING ORANGE SPOT ON THEIR ASS THAT WASNT REALLY ONE. All those years of video game conditioning reduced to nothing.
I'm mixed on release balance, because it had some good ideas and some utterly baffling decisions. It was also still kiting meta, the enemies were just harder to deal with. See what i mean by "just" changing values ?
Also shriekers killing by bodyslamming you was not intentional. If a bug that's basically a flying hunter can kill you by dying, that's not good design imo.
Like, look at this video. It's just slapstick comedy the first time, after the 100th it's just becomes annoying. They arent missiles, and this offers no counterplay

I liked Charger leg meta. It made sense to me honestly, big animal dies if it loses it's leg is absolutely logical, a lot of animals work this way (horses being the most known ones where broken leg is enough to warrant one-way trip to glue factory). If nerfs were neccesary I'd un-armour their back legs more and put glowing paint over them since retards and zoomers require yellow paint to tell them what to do in video games, then it'd be as simple as either having something to go through front leg or going around one. Flamethrower legs also made perfect sense in a way. I liked both of those mechanics and it honestly baffles me they apparently weren't intended.
If anything it was the Bile Spewers that needed to die to being hit in the ass more and Bile Titans needed any sort of weak spot at all.
