flamethowers deal direct damage as well as setting the ground on fire. These pools of fire deal a seperate instance of fire, and then setting enemies on fire also deals fire damage.
Against many light enemies, an efficient method can be to set a patch of ground on fire and let the pool of fire + the on fire damage kill them, while also letting you move away full speed.

When you light on fire, dive immediately to extinguish yourself. Med stims also heal way faster then fire tick damage.
And direct fire damage still interacts with the parts/limbs damage system of the game, so always aim for weakpoints of enemies when applying the flamethrower directly.

All flamers are AP4, so they can hurt just about anything and do good damage to most light to medium enemies

Sorry what I meant to say is don't hold don't the flamer while diving backwards. Also enemies can set you on fire as the flame particles radiate/bounce off them so do be aware that close enemies are gonna ignite you as well.

The flamers all pretty much deal close to the same damage, the difference is in handling, ammo tank sizes.

You don't, you will always set yourself on fire sometimes while using it. Use flame armor so you just tickle yourself instead of killing yourself, but it's still annoying to have to dive.

The support weapon flamethrower in this game just sucks, sadly. You'll have to wait for a patch for it to get better, which may take at least a month. You might have better luck with the Torcher, which is a primary weapon version, but that requires shelling out money for microtransactions.

As the other anon said, get ahold of Inflammable or Acclimated armor. The only one that you can get for free right now is the Killzone collab light set, which unfortunately is light armor and sucks. The reason you're getting set on fire is probably you're setting the ground on fire in front of you and then walking on that ground, try to aim slightly higher and avoid setting the ground on fire. But at the end of the day, flamethrowers are retreat weapons, you want to either stand your ground and melt things coming at you or set the ground on fire and back up and let that do the work for you.

Honestly I find default medium armor to work better still then actual dedicated armor, because armor still reduces fire damage and now you reduce the damage from everything, which is important because you are going into the danger zone where melee, acid, explosions, bullets, are all a danger.

Another solution is to just go stim armors and just use the extra stims and longer stim times to just tank the inevitable beating you are going to take.

Trajectory for the most part. If you aiming at something across the map, it goes waaaaaay up in the air before it starts heading to it's target, so it's a guaranteed hit because it's coming straight above the target. You can also hit things behind walls (it lock on behind walls)

I just use heavy flame armor, especially since you're up close. The damage from getting set on fire is so miniscule that you can honestly ignore it for a bit until you kill everything. The only downside is the heavy armor is in the super store, so look out for it if you want it.

Well, it kind of depends. The free 700 SC from Helldivers Mobilize effectively gives you one free warbond, if you already spent that on Democratic Detonation then it might take you a bit longer to get Freedom's Flame.

Don't listen to what other anons say, Freedom's Flame is a decently good warbond. The shotgun is really good, and the primary weapon flamethrower is better than the support weapon version. It also gives you a set of medium fireproof armor which is also handy on fire tornado planets. About the only thing you don't want to use from the warbond is the booster, which actively hinders your team.

Expert Extraction just does nothing at worst. A lot of the time people will just sit at extraction to farm kills so it doesn't really matter, but if you have a hot extract with a bunch of enemies pushing your shit in (honestly a rarity since extraction seems to be bugged and a lot of the time nothing even tries to kill you as you wait) then needing to hold your ground for less time can be nice.

The game isn't so hard as to require top tier meta picks in every single slot every single time. People might look down on you for picking Expert Extraction, but at D10 I often get people picking Increased Reinforcement Budget or Flexible Reinforcement Budget, both of which end up doing nothing because we never get below 10-15 reinforcements.

Yeah probably. String of defense missions but this time they actually take planets once the defense fails. Then more permanent standard faction stuff.
They had the jet brigade do offensives that we had to blunt before they could get too far, were basically we lost planets but those planets served as speed bumps, could be something similar.

Thermite Grenade is mostly useful to dispatch Chargers/Impalers on bugs without relying on your stratagems. Hulks also, but if you're in Thermite throwing range you're in getting fucked by the Hulk range.

Alright helldivers indulge me another noobshitter question: The weapons progression system seems to be generally pretty good about power creep; i.e. the HMG isn't necessarily better than the regular MG or at all in my opinion just because you unlock it later, same with the Gatling and AC sentries. Most weapons seem to fill a role and not make earlier unlocks totally obsolete, which I like. HOWEVER, what exactly is the point of strategems like the machine gun sentry, gatling orbital, eagle precision strike? level 1 strategems that seem to become obsolete almost immediately. Or do they?

I've had some luck with mines, almost exclusively on defense missions or otherwise any situation when I know the exact direction the enemy is coming from ahead of time. The orbital rail cannon seems great, basically a free titan kill, but thankfully a couple of threads ago an anon pointed out that the ORC is a noob trap and I took his advice and got the laser instead.
But for real though? The MG turret has a use the gatling turret doesnt?

Gatling will waste ammo everywhere by pissing it at max speed. MG turret is more efficient and slower cooldown.
Defense missions are like the exceptions where mines aren't 100% worthless, and still i would only pick them as a meme.
Railgun is 100% baby's first stratagem because its a long reload for killing just one heavy, if it doesn't go for a hive commander instead.

the MG sentry has insane availability and generally survives long enough to chunk whatever it shoots at. its a really good distraction that can also put a dent into an enemy force especially if thrown on a flank. Its cooldown is only like two minutes or less too.
The precision strike is good for illukinate ships or against heavy enemies or tight groups combined with stun grenades but does suffer from taking a bit to actually hit. Has way better uptime then the railcannon though.
Orbital gatling vomits enough damage in a static area for a long time to deal with most chaff and has very low cooldown making it good on bug breaches or drops to soften a force. Can deal a fairly significant amount of damage on its own if a tank decides to park under it.

the only actual near useless things are
>mines (entire field too easily destroyed, too long cooldown, doesnt mesh with almost always needing to be moving elsewhere)
>mortars (teamkills you if even one enemy bleeds through to you and attracts every patrol)
>eagle rocket pods (every single time I use these I am disappointed because they are too inconsistent as an anti armor option when 500kg is barely any different and right there)

machine gun sentry has a better ammo economy and cooldown over the gatling sentry DPS
Precision strike is one of the best stratagems because it's fast, precise, low cooldown and will usually blow up 90% of things it comes into contact with (including some objectives that can be hard to do)
Eagle strike has been buffed and is one of the best way to chew through bot patrols.
Orbital gatling is hit or miss, but not useless. It's basically an area denial tool that will soften up and remove chaff.
I regularly use precision strike and eagle strike. Keep in mind that some upgrades also help making stratagems better. 380 and 120mm barrages were deemed kinda useless until some upgrades (and slight fixes) came along.
It all come down on knowing what can the stratagem do for you and when to use it.
If you're starting out, i encourage you to use the eagle airstrike, orbital airburst and 120mm barrage.
Eagle airstrike is the most swiss knife of all the stratagems, you can almost never go wrong with it AND you can use it twice (three times after upgrade)

The gatling takes the same amount of time to change off a target as the MG so it usually ends up just burying a corpse in excess lead. The MG changes targets slightly faster and its rare that the kill time on a light or medium target will make the difference in DPS. What makes the difference is how fast the turret can acquire a new target and how many it takes out, and its cooldown. The MG wins out in almost all of those unless you’re dealing with a shitton of chunky soft targets like alpha commanders, spewers, or zerkers. The MG is also somewhat less likely to cut you in half if its field of fire sweeps over you, unlike the gatlinf.

Smoke is a good idea on paper, but ultimately it's a mechanic that actually doesnt work, whether it's code or gameplay.

For the sentry, it's a tradeoff. Do you want constant fire and use it often or a sentry that will mulch anything light in sight for about 30-40s ? Keep in mind that MG and minigun sentries are rarely used outside of illuminates (at higher levels)

Eagle stratagems are very nice, but keep in mind that they share cooldowns. Ultimately, it's an easy to use and repeatable type of stratagem.

Mortar is fun and useful, but also its low accuracy means that it will kill you at some point when the enemy gets closer

Cookout is an amazing primary, the whole warbond is worth it for that gun alone. The flamethrower primary is a great alternative to wasting a strategem slot on the flamethrower and so is the secondary. And the flame retardant armor is great it you love running around with the flamethrower, or on planets with fire tornadoes. You'll get the most use of this warbond if you like fighting Terminids, but the Cookout is good against all factions.

if you want a good shotgun the halt is far better. cookout is literally on par with it's original weapon that you get from the free battlepass. flamethrower primary sucks ass because your giving up stagger and range for slightly above average damage. Not to mention the rest of the battle pass is dogshit (the booster is the worst in the game and you will be kicked from every single lobby for using it). Crisper and the cookout are the only reasons to ever buy the warbond and they are all outclassed. If you want a strong flamethrower, just use the fucking stratagem.

Don't know how you've been playing, but the Laser Cannon is godly against Illuminate. It melts Overseer heads like nothing since it doesn't cause them to stagger, and it cuts huge chunks off of Harvesters even if you don't immediately go for the leg kill. Its only real flaw is that it doesn't have enough DPS to quickly break shields, but you have other weapons for that.

Let me introduce you autists to the Halt. First off, rebind your keys. Holding R to open a weapon wheel and click left/right to switch ammo types is lazy Swedish dev design. Fix that bullshit by binding ammo switching to a single button.

By doing this, you shave off the time spent fumbling with the wheel—time that could be spent swapping ammo, reloading, and shooting. Also you can’t swap ammo types mid-reload, keep that that in mind. The Halt reloads one shell at a time, meaning you can keep shooting as long as you’ve got shells on hand by smashing R between shots. The thing is that you reload slower than you fire, so you have to pace your firing with reloading.
Now, enter Siege Ready armor. It reduces reload speed by 30% and boosts your ammo reserves by 20%. All that reload juggling? Tossed into a septic tank and lit on fire. Faster reloads mean faster ammo swaps and less downtime, letting you unload on enemies with the full brunt of the fire rate. Anything that doesn’t die in one shot? Hit it with a stun, reload, and swap back to flechettes(fuck off revolver or some other myriad of stratashit) to finish the job.
I’ll be honest this doesn't work against bots. They hang back and shoot from range. But for bugs and squids? Godsend, since their chaff-to-medium units rely on melee and are always in breathing distance (ignore flygots). Against those two factions, this is the best gun hands down. Ignore crossbow and purifier plz. Also it makes consolecucks seethe.

Polar patriots has the purifier which is essentially a stronger plasma punisher/scorcher hybrid. It does a fantastic job clearing chaff with its charged shot. It's probably the best weapon out of the warbonds you mentioned.

SV and FF have the breaker incendiary and the cookout which are also good.

You basically want something that can take down Voteless hordes while also holding its own against Overseers, so your options are pretty diverse. Torcher and Cookout are very good at chaff clearing, and Torcher can also melt staff Overseers pretty good (range is limited but that's not a massive hindrance in cities). You still need to be able to kill Elevated Overseers and Watchers though, the latter especially if you don't want reinforcement calldowns, so something like a Laser Cannon or Wasp. You also want stratagems that suit mobility and hit-and-run, MG Sentry is pretty disposable due to low cooldown and Gas Strike can disrupt chases long enough for you to escape. You also want something to kill Tesla Towers and blow up Warp Ships, so Grenade Pistol serves this purpose super well.

Machine guns have enough DPS to melt their shields, HMG can also chip and crack the torso with direct fire to get a kill.

Laser Cannon can melt pieces off of the Harvester when its shield is down but it's not good at breaking the shield.

Wasp can break the shield in two or three missiles but isn't reliable at finishing the job.

Oh, I actually forgot about the Reprimand, it's really good at killing anything smaller than a Harvester because it's rapid fire, armor pen and huge damage per round, just make sure to bring Siege Ready. Same for Halt, it has stopping power and armor pen and the stun rounds can stop Elevated Overseers and Watchers in their tracks.

I I downloaded 2 audio mods from nexus but I kept losing connection to games. I know it was an issue but wanted to make sure. So I deleted the files from the game directory. Now the sounds still play but only for .5 seconds and cut out. I deleted the whole game and redownloaded but still have the partial mods in there.

Any trick to removing them for good? I’m assuming they got updated to a cloud.

An idea is forming in my mind, based on workplaces I've had in the past. Arrowhead output feels like what happens when you have a very ineffective boss. You know roughly what your job is, you clock in, and go home having done something, but because the boss isn't coordinating work, there's nobody at the wheel. Arrowhead employees probably do end up getting good stuff done. But without the boss being a little bit mean (anathema to Swedes) and telling them to stop doing this or that and forcing them to work towards a certain goal at this time, they will continue to drop whatever shit accidentally gets made. I doubt they even use GANTT charts or have team leads supervising whatever.

I'm very pessimistic, but years of fatshark (forgive me for uttering that name) have broken me. And the stuff I describe does suck for the workers, it's horrible but it does get things done.

The inner workings of Swedish game development companies are truly mysterious. One thing we can all count on though, is that they will fuck up their game and go on their extended vacation (all while disregarding the agonized screaming of the playerbase.)

Some attempts to translate HD1 into 3d yielded weird results. Like the TTK in HD1 couldn't be replicated thanks to the distances we engage enemies at now. So they lowered the damage of weapons to make the enemies not get picked off before they became a threat. In HD1 patrols not only were a lot closer before you could see them, but also their spawning being a more chaotic was ok. Now it's very annoying to do a double take and see a patrol spawn right behind you. The dropships/bug hole idea is excellent for 2 though.

I think it was bugged. I swear I watched my teammates haul it all the way to the upload site, but then next thing i know it's back at the original position and we cant find it. We ended up running out of time and had to extract without completing the objective... Oh well, at least we got some samples out of it.

Man I would love a Lap 2 mod. Activate the extraction terminal and it just immediately reactivates all objectives and you have to do it again with the post-main objective increased spawns in the time remaining. Bonus points for increasing the spawns by the same rate as the main objective gets its second completion. Then Lap 3.

Wow the Illuminate need more enemies. They're put me to sleep tier easy.

Here's an idea I just came up with: Abomonations. They got a bunch of a voteless corpses and mashed/sewed 'em together into a giant walking heap and put some squid tech into it. So it charges you like a left 4 dead tank but it also has some sentry guns rigged onto its back. It also has multiple heads so it lacks an easy critical place to shoot it unlike bot hulks

Oh and it can have a shield generator strapped on it that gives little forcefields to all voteless nearby it. Yeah, that sounds like a real pain in the dick to fight

Oooh and there could be a version with a tesla thing on it. Actually instead of sentries it just has a bunch of tesla bolts on it, for that frankenstein's monster look.

all shotguns (slugger has bad spread even if it is a slug, rest require you to get very close to head shot them)
plasma accelerator (not enough ammo)

It's fun to use. It's legit good against bugs. Only thing it can't handle is the Bile Titan so your buddies AT or your red stratagems will need to handle that. It obliterates all other buggies. Chargers are a bit tricky, need to shoot behind them or a bit under them, but deleting entire bug pods and alpha brood commanders feels so good.

As far as I know, it highlights the POI:s closer but not enough to justify the pick over a mobility booster IMO. The scout armor passive does fuck all except highlights enemy pips.
