This makes big banquets and fancy food a luxury, which is why she's fixated on food. But more importantly, it means she's a bargaining chip in a political marriage to less impoverished regions to get more resources. But Ingrid doesn't want to be a housewife because then she can't be a knight. Despite this Ingrid was in love with the original person she was matched with, who was killed in a terrorist attack by the Duscans. This makes Ingrid highly xenophobic against Duscans. Every character comes from somewhere. Every character develops flaws and assets based on where in Fodlan they come from. Each of those locations and political structures are things to be argued over in relation to Edelgard's conquest. It's basically designed to start arguments.Ingrid is probably one of the least interesting 3H characters and she's got more nuance than any character on Engage. I think part of the reason Engage ended up so bad is because the previous games were actually being carried. IS never wrote a backstory in Fates and Awakening. Fates had a real writer do the premise (which was the good part) and Awakening is built on references and previous entries. The Hoshido and Nohr royals are easily fleshed out by filling in the gaps. Lucina references Marth and Walmart is a poor man’s Rudolf and so on. All they had to do was fill in the gaps. This time Alear is his own thing that doesn’t draw from something else. For some reason they conjured up one of the worst casts when left to create their own setting and world.
