First one yeah around 135kt. I was just trying steep approaches, second one I was at around 110kt which is even slower than the irl landing speed for the weight. It's just that the plane feels extremely slippery and hard to slow down in xplane.

I ambushed him and his buddies while on patrol, took out one, and then lured the rest into a some friendly BF-109s. With just this guy remaining and me without ammo, I called it a day and flew back home to my base 100km away. Then, while after doing a go-around due to busy runway, and lining up for a second glideslope, I find this guy as followed me all the way here and is lining up a shot on me just as I'm about to touch down. He is forced to fuck off anyway due to air defenses. He then limps back home for about 50km, runs out of fuel, crashes into a tree, and I earn the kill because I hit him with like a single round 8mm mauser about half an hour ago. Valentin, you are so fucking mad.

>POV hat for viewing

>>
>>519472159
It would be if I turned off all the casual features. I can't look over or around my nose with the POV hat, but the ez mode markers mean I can just use those as a reference for where the runway is. Having cockpit, chase view, padlock friendly, and padlock enemy all bound on a 4-way hat and the zoom on a slider really helps. I wish the HUD overlay had a turn and slip indicator on it, no way to conveniently see that.

Yeah, I've seen that. The other problem is basic math and sensibility. Just the basic VKB is $190, the premium is fucking $220. That's very dear just for civ flying unless I go the whole hog DCS route, which is probably a lot more money.

Or I can get a V4P for $48 that'll work great with everything else I might ever want to play, including DCS. That's not even that much more than a logitech extreme 3d pro.

im getting pretty much no help wherever I ask so I figure fuck it maybe here.

i'm trying to unfuck my wheel setup and make something that can go from sim to sim/game to game and be somewhat consistent.

some games its easy because its effectively just map a controller to it and others take the whole sim thing and fucking run as far as they can with it.

im wondering if anyone has a somewhat good setup or ideas of what to map where so I at least have a base of how things should map, and if anything needs to change I can make changes from a soild base line.

for reference, my current setup is just make the cars move and deal with the rest later, but as you can see by this post, later never came and im getting a bit frustrated, I would rather not spend 1000~ hours in various sims and games to still not be done mapping the controller well.

I think it goes back to what some other anon had said about most flight sims being kinda the same and it's up to the devs. Cecconello in this dvd said that before doing the first flight on the M-346 prototype (he had done a lot more on the Yak-130 when it was still a joint venture) he did around 280 flights in the sim and they helped a lot since it's almost the same as the real one.

I've got 2 wheels, my GT wheel I just mapped to match exactly whats in the car, but my other wheel is similar to your pic.
I'm a noob but what I've been doing is frequent controls near lefthand (since right hand has to move to shifter sometimes). things like wipers, lights, brake bias. Maybe handbrake and stuff if you don't have a physical one. Right hand side I do stuff like menus and repairs and stuff.

as far as mapping between games I've seen some guys with huge sim rigs use some 3rd party software to cajole everything together. I can't remember the name at the moment I'll see if I can find it, maybe that would help.
I've just been binding everything on a per game basis and it sucks

could also just look at a gt/F1 wheel and assign buttons in similar position to those

Something just tickles my brain when it comes to thinking how to design a flight sim. For example, the instruments in a plane could be elegantly designed with OOP, each one deriving its interface and generic functionality from a base class. There's just something beautiful to it, but also there is the cold realization that making a flight sim in the year 2025 on your own is just not worth it, you'd be too far behind.

I ordered parts from china to setup an SDR receiver just to listen to nearby VOR's and NDB's and verify if they are even alive. Is this autism? Not even sure if a small antenna on my balcony is going to work but we'll see, the parts are arriving today I think. Sorry for slightly off-topic but this interest was caused by my x-plane hobby so I guess it's okay to post about it here.
>>
>>520104153
It's autism but it's based, I have an amateur radio license myself and used to do lots of HF stuff. Messing around with radios is great fun.
>>
>>520104835
Cool, I'm still pretty much a newbie when it comes to knowledge about radios. I like to learn by doing, either in a sim or in real life. I think it would be cool if I could listen to the ATIS of my nearby airport, though I'm fairly certain it's not possible from where I'm located at with the equipment I ordered. Also I'll try to listen to the advisory frequency to see if anything's happening here at all, rarely even see planes flying here.

That's X4, which can be Newtonian if you turn flight assist off, with the recent flight model update it's more drifty and I suppose in-between on-rails and full Newtonian . I haven't played E:D for years, I can't quite remember what that's like, similar though.

Cheers anon, I only have a cheap dipole antenna for now. I'll see what I can do with it but I'll be definitely setting up something better later after I've learned more about this stuff. The SDR is now running on my balcony with the power of a Raspberry Pi 4, it's running a server to which I can connect from my PC, so the raspb is only crunching samples and transmitting them over the network, I did some testing and this thing can go as high as 24M samples per second until it starts dropping samples. Very cool, I can find peaks around the nearby NDB frequencies but I am unable to actually hear the morse code, probably just obstructions and my horrible antenna preventing that. Anyways, I'll find a better general for this stuff from now on, sorry about this off-topic I just wanted to reply to the radio anon that I got it working.

Have fun mate, I miss my old HF transceiver, I sold it because I needed the money, ham radio equipment is expensive. But I fondly remember nights of searching the bands seeing what I could find, listening in to people's conversation, finding strange noises, shortwave radio stations, and of course actually making contact with someone in a far away country. It's quite special when you hear your callsign read back from a country thousands of miles away from a wire in your garden.

Leonardo unveils block20 cockpit for the m346. I don't really like the new HUD shape.
>>
>>520244103
>Available on production aircrafts from 2028. Almost all the modifications they made reflect the new requirements that the USN specified for T-45 replacement now that it's confirmed they won't have to do carrier landings. Looks like Leonardo is either betting everything on this bid and if it goes bad trying to sell the FA variants to poorer or smaller countries like they did with Nigeria and Austria.

no idea, If I was filthy rich I would unironically buy one as I love HUDs.
The one currently in the M-346 I think it's made in Italy.
Those israeli elbit ones are usually cheaper (IIRC they just got a contract for the indian SU-something something and a contract to build a training school like the one we have at Deci with M-346s in Greece for the hellenic af).
I found the pricing for a full M-346 simulator tho. 600k €.

Two flights in the A310 today and neither time could I get it to follow a simple ILS. G/S and LOC are active on the PFD but the thing just doesn't want to begin it's final descent. Obviously I'm doing something wrong but I find it extremely frustrating to have to try and fight a computer mid-air when it doesn't respond as expected. Do modern tubeliner sim pilots enjoy this? I'd rather manage my own levers and gauges than have to play 20 questions with a glorified calculator when I'm on short final.

Dualshock 4 as sim gear. Hear me out.
>it already has 2 more mappable buttons than the 360 controller by default, due to touchpad click and the PS button, and the triggers can be read as an axis or a button
>however, if you download DS4windows, you get quite a bit more, although additional inputs will just mimic
>the touchpad now has 8 inputs, left side click, right side, top edge, and multi-touch click, as well as swiping up, down, left, right
>you can also set the touchpad up as a mouse, which is the default profile actually, and lots of games have mouselook
>you can also set up gyro as an additional 3 axis, or have them as inputs if you bypass certain
>if you want inputs without moving your thumbs off the sticks, you can get the backpaddles, although they can only replicate other buttons rather than add new ones
The analogs dont give a lot of precision compared to joysticks, even when in the "enhanced precision" mode, and not being able to merge both trigger axis into one is a pain in most games. 22 buttons, 8 axis. Honestly not bad.

>>
>>520663364
yeah it's really cool. IIRC the Eurofighter has a similar thing but it also drops your nose if you're about to stall. And the M346 only has a basic PARS.
>>
>>520663929
a DS4 is unironically a better investment if he's on PC and he's unsure if he's going to like sims. If he ends up liking them he'll buy something better than the t16000000000000000m, meanwhile if he doesn't like them he still has a controller for other games.
>>
>>520664081
Sure if he has neither a controller nor a joystick, you can get more out of a joystick and throttle than a wheel I would say though as there are plenty of flying games, as well as space games that use them.
>>

Why do game devs do this shit
>>
>>520749796
Half the fun of warbirds is getting that slight edge from superior engine management. Sure, the AI will do their engine management inhumanly perfect, but online you can use it to effectively grief n00bs.
>>
>>520750550
Yeah okay, but why can't the devs put a little effort into making the keybind menu and their default binds not total dogshit so I don't have to spend over an hour fucking around? Even DCS is easier to set up.
>RWin + LAlt + Backslash to turn on the window defroster on P-47D (razorback models only) during the month of February
Fuck off. So much of this could be streamlined with a better of thought. Tap G to raise/lower gear, hold G to drop tailhook/lock tailwheel.
>>
>>520751923
Dude, it's a clickable cockpit in modern flight sims, only people with home built full simpits need to bind the window defrosters, everyone else just looks over and clicks. If you are playing some cut-rate simulator without clickable cockpits then that's on you.

It was about time. It makes no sense why an open source jet like the F-35 wouldn't be in DCS. Especially when the AN/APG-81 is so documented.
>>
>>520811474
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oyCzT6sB_4
To be fair the DCS level of "full fidelity" is a meme. They don't replicate/study anything, they just "copy" the output. Take this video for example, the technology behind how they can have such a SA display is obviously top secret and very complex, but all ED has to know is "bad guys are a white triangle, if you lock them they get a red ring around them" so you simply implement that within the game. It's no different from what they do in WarThunder. The biggest example of this methodology is the FLIR imagery and radar/RWR lock mechanics in DCS which are unironically inexistant.
>>
>>520812792
why expend limited hardware resources simulating when you can fake it for the same effect.

reminds me of people whining that flight sims aren't 1 to 1 fluid dynamics simulators down to the atomic level.

computers can do billions of calculations per second. the thing that impacts performance is graphics and lighting. there's no reason ED cant simulate the complex stuff, the only thing that is stopping them is knowledge, which these days is infinite thanks to the internet.

The only thing preventing me from trying VATSIM is the fear of not understanding what the ATC is saying, meaning I can't hear their voice properly due to their shitty mic or accent. Isn't VATSIM exactly what /simg/ should be about: simulation? Why would anyone half-ass aviation simulation, what is the point in that? I'm genuinely interested in flying but I don't have money or courage for IRL PPL, so I must breath copium through x-plane and VATSIM.
>>

If you want to bait, at least come up with something better.
>>
>>521048475
How is it bait? Flight sims are made to simulate flying, not dealing with pissed off virgins who like to larp as ATC wagies. You'll never find actual pilots in vatsims, real pilots if they ever use sims is for wacky shit or practicing landings
>>
>>521048350
To be fair I wasn't necessarily calling out levels of autism in a derogatory manner, remember where we are. I just honestly struggle to understand the appeal of LARPing as a wagie, other than maybe you get the power trip of telling other LARPers what to do?
>>
>>521055402
>I just honestly struggle to understand the appeal of LARPing as a wagie
>other than maybe you get the power trip
What is there so difficult to understand? People want to be pilots or air traffic controllers or even both, but they can't due to money or medical issues or whatever, so they're happy to pretend being one online with other autists. ATC comms is a huge part of flying IRL and I at least personally feel like the world in X-Plane is very dead and boring without VATSIM. It's an interesting challenge to be an air traffic controller, it may be a wage slave job to someone who does it for a living but as a hobby in a simulated environment with hundreds of sim pilots it can be very interesting and fun.
>>
>>521056029
To add to this, something like VATSIM isn't just ATC comms, it also requires you to understand local AIP guidelines, weather conditions and airspace classes, just to name a few. So you must learn to fly a plane like a real pilot.

It wasn’t this bad 50 years ago, we were still allowed to have residential streets outside of massive subdevelopments back then.

No good turboprop liners unfortunately, the ATR is OK if that’s your thing.
The DC-6 is exceptional though.

>Top Mach Studios developed the aircraft using a combination of open-source information, official promotional material, and best-guess engineering to fill in the blanks left by the still largely classified or under-documented systems of the real T-7A.
To be fair it sounds like most classified stuff are FMS related, I remember a stream with MilTech talking about how they had to fell in the blanks with a few areas on the C-17 with it.

Either every VFR phraseology guide differs or the phraseology differs between countries. It seems like if I want to fly VFR in VATSIM the whole communication between ATC will be different for each country.......

dont bind using someone elses layout, just bind as close as possible to other jets ie. flares are on the same button for every jet, much easier to transition between them

Seconding this, but still compromises have to be made here and there depending on how systems are set up in various jets.

Jesus fucking Christ I hate English tabloids so much. What was the point of making such a false article when the RAF already had confirmed the replacement for the Hawk T-1 and T-2 would've been made by Aeralis and if not them still another UK company in order to represent the spirit of the UK aerospace industry?

They didn't even bother to research why some RAF pilots come to Italy, and even if the Hawk didn't have any issues they would've come anyway since other nato countries send their representations to other NATO countries to improve the collaboration and cooperation between the various air forces. The only country that comes to Italy to train because they don't have a suitable plane at home IIRC is Sweden that signed a 10 year deal.
>>

The articles are mental, they don't even mention the plane is Italian. Our tabloids really are shite. Btw the Aeralis looks gay even if it is British.

it looks like a mini F-4 which makes it cute. But IIRC Aeralis had since changed the design by a lot. Last plans I saw it looked like a modular Hawk t1. Which would still be still be fine. The real issue would be if a new company like them can manage to deliver them in time.
>>521243974
I wonder if it's related to the loyal wingman project for the GCAP. A few months ago Leonardo flew one M-346 in the role of mothership for a fleet of virtual drones that were to be the testbed for the GCAP program.

Seeing the high amount of crashes the USN had in the T-45 due to compressor stalls and birdstrike the 346 could have a chance if they push from the safety angle. But even if false the moment a politician will hear "russian plane" everything will go to waste.

I feel like an absolute failure and human trash. I have not been able to do a single flight in vatsim, every time I try the ATC vanishes before I can get started. I've done all the research and I know what to do but I cannot find one single simple controlled airport without too much traffic where I could practice. How can I fail this hard, I don't know, maybe I am too autistic and I take it too seriously. Every single time there is a huge setup just to get familiar with one airport and to get ready to request taxi for vfr circuits.
>>
>>521350423
you need a shrink, dude
>>
>>521350423
You ever watch those YouTube videos of a pilot absolutely shitting the bed with their interaction with ATC? Think of your near-fuguee VATSIM experience as a "what if" training scenario for the tower jannies, I'm sure they will appreciate the opportunity more than you imagine.
Or just switch to DCS where you don't have to ask permission for every little thing you do in the air like some cucked imitation of a man.
>>
>>521352663
Idk man, I am tired of trying. I can't go fly into just any country, I can't stand nor understand the accents bongs have, for example. So I'd prefer to fly in my own country, but it does not have great ATC coverage. I guess I'll just have to wait for the opportunity, but it's tiring to setup my joystick and whatnot and file a flight plan, etc, every time, just to connect to the network to see the ATC vanished 5 seconds ago.
>>
>>521350423
It's just a game mate, chill out and don't worry if you make mistakes it really doesn't matter, what's the ATC going to do? They'll most likely correct you and help you out.
