So right now Boeing's CEO is being grilled on how they plan to unfuck themselves
Think it can happen or will LM just gobble them up?
>>
>>520130032
>will LM just gobble them up?
Short of Boeing doing a 9/11 out of sheer quality control failures, I don't think it'll happen even on the medium term.
>>
>>520130032
There's no shot of a LM/Boeing merger, Anti-Trust would shut it down in a heartbeat. Both combined would hold a massive monopoly over DoD aircraft contracts. Like, all fighter aircraft contracts would be held by one company, with the potential exception of F/A-XX going to Northrup Grumman.
Boeing would have to be buried below the gutter before something like that could happen.

NTA, but it's not about "I bet you think the law applies equally to everyone too". Having too few aircraft manufacturers would be risky as fuck for the armed forces, because that means an increased chance of getting lemons instead of capable combat aircraft. If you're the only company that can be relied upon to make a new plane, then the USAF and USN can only raise their hands in defeat when your option isn't good enough. Imagine if the ATF or JSF weren't competitions, and only had a single entrant: wouldn't it be worrying to strategic planners? Corps can get away with a ton of things in the US, but the armed forces draw the line when the really important shit downright doesn't work - because they have the option to choose someone else.

How does it affect flight performance? It probably generates a bit of lift, but I doubt the rotation is fast enough to do amything. At worst it might make the plane want to yaw along with the rotationa tiny bit but I imagine FBW can easily correct for that. And the disc is off when landing and taking off, so it's not like it'll ever mess with complicated maneuvers

Any flanker aficionados around? Have some questions about a variant I hadn't heard of, Su-27UP. No, not Su-27PU (or Su-30), Su-27UP.
From what I can gather they're a subvariant of Su-27UB used as interceptors, (which, annoyingly, is the same use case as the PU/30). At first I thought it was a typo. There's basically jack all English sources on the matter though, and it only really comes up in articles related to the Ukrainian Flanker fleet (Pic related is one, apparently).

And here is the catch on that unless they make Gripen 100% homegrown down to every last nut and bolt they always have that problem hanging over them. As does anyone else who has and sells planes to export even the US.
Its just part of how it works and its not just planes we've seen the Swiss pull the same dumb shit with you can't use that to fight with in Ukraine because it has something we made in it so its off limits.
Unless Gripen is 100% homegrown then they always run the risk of someone going I don't like that country you can't sell this weapon to them with my stuff in it.

There's a whole bunch of similar cases of fictional Flanker variants all over the net. Another one that comes to mind is the Su-35"UB". Many different websites talk about it, but there's never an actual source cited.

35UB was an attempt to sell a plane to Koreans in their F-X programme. In fact it was one singular 30MKK with canards.

I really don't think this is anything special, I think UP and PU is just a way to differentiate that the twin seater base production Flanker may have different developments compared to the Ukranian one. And, Flankers are Flankers I don't think they would be locked to a certain role (coming to mind, the F-15E recently being used in full air to air configurations with no CFTs)

>>
>>520439072
The first few missions of merc pretty much expect you to use the PWMK 1. You can do it with /ourplane/ & the guns guns guns plane
Once you hit M4 you can start taking other higher end planes and be fine.

Tunnel run will be fine once you exit hit the gas and pop flares then play as normal.
>>
>>520443312
darn, i was hoping you didn't have to use the good planes
>>
>>520445217
I got through the first 4 missions with the non trainer phantom so it isn't impossible, it is hard and sometimes tedious though. You can also use any of the rebalance mods to make earlier planes more competitive.
>>
>>520445217
You're kinda stuck in PW because of the lack of high G turns and the need to choose between flares and AoA. While Mercenary in the F/D-14 or F/E-4 is probably doable, it's going to take a really fucking long time because you'll need to kite every engagement so hard to avoid getting overwhelmed with your lack of agility.

Plus anyone who has already signed on for them if they did cancel it would be 10-20 years before they could get something else in use. Not to mention all the money that would be wasted from getting ready for F-35 is no more now we have to turn around and get ready for something else entirely different and spend even more money on getting ready for it.
>>
>>520449370
Mercenary makes more sense as an 'Ace of Aces' equivalent than an Ace difficulty equivalent, but it doesn't help that the changes to the campaign are so front loaded.
>>
>>520452538
I hope Kono took notice of that and will add something similar to that. Shame 7 never got it post-launch.
>>
>>520453198

>>
>>520453198
The DLC missions felt like a good step up in difficulty from the base game, but yeah a proper Ace of Aces mode for the main campaign would've been great. I guess PC players have various mods, but I've heard conflicting reports on how well balanced/designed they are.

Yeah, I switched back to flares shortly after posting that and it got normal again. I finally got a new plane after sticking with the F-14 for my entire first run and wanted to try out the AoA limiter but it feels like you get swarmed by so many missiles that it's just suboptimal and ends up feeling kind of annoying to use in comparison. Also, holy shit, the SP-34 is so fun. First time I used the gun put a smile on my face and it didn't go away for the entire mission.
>>
>>520498582
Guns in PW are so satisfying to use compared to AC7s peashooters. You can amp the fun by using the double damage modifier and melt everything with a short burst, don't even get me started on shotgun pods vs anything in a cone in front of/near you, add to that that bullets travel a really long distance and you have the recipe for a good time.
>>
>>520503671
Doesn't hurt that PW's gunsight actually works to predict a target's location, instead of being a glorified gyro gunsight from WW2.
>>
>>520421854
How? Even if you're shit at guns, you still have:
>Unlimited flares that clear EVERY SINGLE missile on your tail REGARDLESS OF RANGE on a 5-6 seconds cooldown
>Health and ammo counts based around Merc difficulty instead of the regular game (you have enough ammo to wipe some maps twice, it takes 5 easily avoidable missiles to shoot you down, AA only deals 2 (two) points of damage per hit and can be evaded by >climbing above 5000 feet)
>MLAGs, which can wipe out 4 to 8 targets from well outside SAM and AA targeting range
>SAAs, which are a guaranteed kill on anything that isn't a boss when fired from medium range and above
>MLAAs, which completely neutralize airships from the same distance as MLAGs
>The AoA limiter, which becomes an instant "I win the dogfight" button the moment you figure out it should be used offensively rather than defensively
I get struggling with Kings, it's a big difficulty spike. But the rest of the game?

>And, Flankers are Flankers I don't think they would be locked to a certain role.
They actually were, for a time. Su-27P is an interceptor subvariant of the first serial production Flankers. They had all the Air-to-Ground provisions of the Su-27S stripped out, and were dedicated solely to border defence with the V-PVO. Su-27PU / Su-30 was also focused on the Intercept mission.

>SP-34 is so fun
It really is the speed mixed with an all gun setup makes for some fun just be careful not to crash into the water with playing with the guns.......

And give the all guns Su-25 a run as it carries various gunpods you can create an all gun mix you like.

In case you didn't know the heavy gun pod has a much longer firing range than what your gunsite tells you. To figure this range out you just have to practice on ground targets to see how far it really shoots. The rapid gunpod also does the same but range a little harder to figure out due to how it fires.

I'm just curois to see if 100%ing the game unlocks all of the "exclusive" stuff from the deadcopy save, as far as I remember it actually does, you're supposed to get the Night Raven and also liveries you'd never have access to during normal play, like Rena's Flanker, all of Cynthia's liveries, and also planes like the General Resource F/A-18I, the F-16XF, Neucom's R-101 and R-201, and so on
the fact the japanese version of AC3 doesn't have an so to say unified profile assault record really perplexes me, the export version of it does, even Ace Combat 2 does have something similar
>>
Does Frontline 59 expect you to remember a lot of Project Wingman's lore and story? I don't remember many specifics of the base game. Do I need to replay it and refresh my memory before playing the DLC?
>>
>>520572528
not really

>>
>>520571067
I'll save you the effort it doesn't do that that was the whole point of PA releasing the dead copy it allowed you to access stuff you cannot unlock via normal gameplay or 100%
All 100% does is give you the OSL and allows you to have the Night Raven and Aurora on the same save but thats all it gives.
But the weapons you can just use a simple cheat while the mission loads to use it or the plasma missiles from the space plane anytime you want..
>>
>>520572528
Only keep in mind these points
>you're a fed
>Driver owns 50% of Magadan's speeding tickets in total

>>
>>520577413
thanks, I may 100% the game while keeping a list later on just to doublecheck, because I clearly remember 100%ing the game does unlock the unique Neocom, GR and Ouroboros planes. does 100%ing the game by chance also unlock the Night Raven and Ouroboros search engine entries?

something that always perplexed me about deadcopy is the myth that used to float about that claimed it was the only way to have access to the Night Raven in the japanese version of AC3, while that clearly never was the case
I also remember a myth that claimed it's impossible to get an A rank on Radio Silence on some copies of AC3, that also apparently only ever was a myth and nothing more
>>
>>520582002
I would check myself but the JP unlock seems to be missing on gamefaqs now and trying to find it elsewhere in English seems to be a lost cause. Beyond the stuff I have already said.

Are you sue your not confusing stuff with the US version of the game?
US version 100% gives
Super planes
OSL
Can only be used in the simulator tab

JP 100% gives
Super planes
OSL
Planes who show up in 2 or 3 groups UPEO, GR, Nucomm & Ourborros skins are usable as you can use them in the main game anyway depending on the route you took.

Deadcopy allows for
All planes can be accessed even ones you can't use at any point in the main game can now be used
Its the only way to have access to the Dision, Rena and Cynthia skins.
>>
>>520587026
>Are you sue your not confusing stuff with the US version of the game
nope

>Deadcopy allows for
>All planes can be accessed even ones you can't use at any point in the main game can now be used
>Its the only way to have access to the Dision, Rena and Cynthia skins.
bullshit, I have those even on my 99% save, as a matter of fact even the exclusive Neucom R101, GR F-16XF, the Ouroboros Su-43 and R-103 and so in are there too, even the Aurora is there, the only things that are missing are the Night Raven and the OSL
feel free to download my memory card and see for yourself https://files.catbox.moe/j3zetb.mcr
>>
>>520590515
btw if you're using duckstation you can just rename it to "duckstation_shared_card_2.mcd" and it will load just fine
>>
>>520590515
And you never once d/l and merged the deadcopy? Or started with a save from somewhere but all your current save is 100% your own work?

If I'm wrong I'm wrong so what I already told you the JP info is gone from gamefaqs now and finding it elsewhere in English came up zlitch beyond saying the same stuff I just said. Trying to find unlock info on a 26 year old JP only game is next to impossible.
>>
>>520593718
I made a deadcopy save but my Nemo account is 100% my own work, and no, none of the deadcopy unlocks carry over to the other accounts
I'm nearly certain playing all of the missions the simulator only planes like picrelated, getting an A rank in Geopelia unlocks the XR900, getting an A rank in all of the missions where you kill Dision unlocks the Aurora, while getting and A rank in all the missions unlocks the Night Raven and the OSL
were I not in bed I'd search for a 100% file copy pasting a google translated query, you may actually find a 100% file that way

Oh yeah, they're much better even aside from the SP-34. For the SP-34, I feel like I'd barely notice double damage, it already deletes everything just tapping the triggers. I was also amazed at how well shotgun pods could just melt ships too when I finally gave them a real try.
>>520525638
>the heavy gun pod has a much longer firing range
I noticed but I'm not very good at taking advantage of it...

I gotta say though Mercenary is really disappointing past the first few missions. I know it's like a two man dev team and they likely bit off a bit more than they could chew trying to revamp the game for it but I honestly couldn't tell you if any missions in the latter half even change aside from Kings. It feels like there was some obvious chances to at least throw in a land battleship here and there and Crimson Squadron definitely should have had backup in your last fight with them. I guess there's still modifiers at least.

Just so I get this right...
Cascadia caught wind of the Cordium Nukes and invaded Magadan to stop the feds producing them. It's explicitly stated that the CIF spend most of the occupation destroying Cordium production facilities and stockpiles, and 'Faust' takes place moments before 'Consequence of Power'. You can even see the missiles before the mission ends
I remember a lot of people being confused as to why the CIF would occupy Magadan when FL59 released. To me, a raid on Magadan to try and stop the feds pulling a Belka is the only thing that makes sense.

You got it wrong buddy, it was to force the Federation's hand and to make sure the explosion caused by the warheads would reach critical to relive the Calamity.

It is also stated during one of the missions that any Cordium spilled back into the Earth's mantle would pop out somewhere else, and with Magadan's entire Cordium production halted/destroyed it caused the ring of fire to reignite when the warheads hit Prospero.

always seemed weird to me that the floggers had their IRST under the nose
I guess the intended use was for shoot-down to make up for the lack of PD radar, but the idea of lurking around on the deck and flinging IR-guided telephone poles at overflying planes is kinda terrifying, especially back in the 70s (IIRC the later floggers could also do ranging off of the IRST using a low power low repetition radar pulse that wouldn't set off RWR)

it's the only starter that received a special variant directly named after Cipher in Infinity.
>but anooon, Infinity is an entirely separate continuity, that means nothing!
it's direct meta acknowledgement from PA that the Draken is associated with Cipher.
it isn't an outright statement that Cipher canonically flew a Draken in Zero, but it gives a lot more credence to the idea.
>They did it because [...]
neither you nor I actually know why they did it because they never said why they did it.

I see it more as the Cascadians showing the world how far the Feds will go to remove any resistance see the Oceania conflict, while most of it was swept under the rug and publicly announced as a suppresion of hostile mercenaries Faust mentions that the Cascadian unit had to do most of the unsavory missions and how she pretty much made an entire continent starve among other things; The Feds triggering the second calamity themselves also grants the Cascadians a valid cassus belli for the entire war and any future conflict.

Just finished Frontline 59. It was alright. Felt like more of the same content from the base game, but there was some decent variety in the missions. I thought the villain was weak, though. Overall, glad I gave it a shot.

It was good. Died a few times, but I like how it escalated with the giant explosions (which reminded me of Faceless Soldier) and the freakin' laser beams. It was pretty annoying how it makes you fight a few weak scattered enemies before the boss actually appears, though.

Am I doing something wrong to get the ace in AC7 mission 17 (Homeward) to show up? I flew along the whole rail of the mass driver close enough that the “pull up” alarm was going off but he doesn’t show up… tried it a couple of times and no dice. Do you have to do it above a certain speed? Am I just not close enough to it? Am I starting too late on the rail? The SSTOs are kind of in the way at the front, how close do you have to be to them? Am I just retarded?

It’s the only ace I don’t have, kind of driving me nuts :(
>>
>>520972156
maybe you got him to spawn but missed him? he spawns with the bombers but sort of blends with the mass due to everyone being ID'd as unknwon

No one is really sure of the exact height so get as close as you can without crashing. You have to fly that low over every single pixel of it so start your approach a little ways off and keep on course a few seconds after you leave it in case of any screwy game issues that might prevent it from spawning.
He is very easy to miss as you have to scan him like all the other planes in the bomber group.
>>
>>520973331
Hmmm… maybe this is the problem, I was still diving into it a bit just after the parked SSTOs, maybe they fully count as part of it? You’d have to get pretty damn close to them though to still be “low” over the rest of the rail, I kind of figured PA wouldn’t make you do it that way, lol.
>>
>>520974020
Its a very vague requirement no one is really sure of exact but that is how I did it and it worked so I know it will unlock it for you.
>>
>>520974453
Did you do it going fast? I feel like that shouldn’t matter but I was wondering if I just flew too slowly (or too fast and missed part of the curve), I was just moving at “default” speed, not pressing throttle or brake
>>
>>520976664
I was to worried about crashing flying that low so I slowed down to base speed and just slow flew the launcher from start to finish.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand modern air combat. Without a fairly solid grasp of EM theory, radar wave propogation, and the physics involved most of your shots will be trashed. There's also the nihilistic philosophy and tech libertarianism of the contemporary military industrial complex which is deftly woven with statescraft in the modern era.
>>
>>520979090
I should be good then, I guess I just wasn’t quite low enough. I figured the pull up alarm going off meant I was within the distance but I can go lower lol.

It's typically "bleed air" siphoned from the turbine's compressor. The same system also cools the electronics.
As for breathable oxygen, most planes nowadays have an OBOGS (On-Board Oxygen Generating System) that collects oxygen from bleed air. Older planes used Liquid Oxygen bottles.
