This shift in appeal to casuals was always strange to me. From what i understood, the appeal of tekken to casuals was always:>mix of real martial arts and fantasy ones>ridiculus characters and humor>difference cultures represented >most characters speak their native languages>large move lists allows mashing to be fun and lead to all sorts of unique moveswhy get all desperate all if a sudden when casuals are usually buying regardless. picking up characters in tekken 8 is way harder than in t7 because in 7 and prior all you had to do was mash around on the controller for a bit and figure out what buttons are good or notin 8, Heat is such an integral part of the game that now you need to rack your brain to try and remember all of the different heat engagers your character has, what their heat smash does, what each of their engager moves do when you use them as a dash (launch or knockdown?), what unique heat gimmicks your character has...it's exhausting
This game just feels so random. Whoever lands the second combo just wins the round outright. Obviously you can try to control your risks of getting launched but that isn’t the developer’s vision.
The first modern fighting game that markets itself as prestige game, as in something to master with a huge skill ceiling, will be the most successful one. You see that everywhere else with other games/sports.
