EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club
Race 94

18:00 UTC 20:00 CEST, 14th of April.

We are going back to the past. To France of 1967, Albi. For one of a kind, two class race, Shelby Cobras and Lotus Type 49s! Both are great cars, but one is lighter than the other. Both are total death mobiles. What will you choose?

1 hour practice
12 minutes qualifiers
14 laps race

Afterwards, I'd love to explore a new freeroam map: Santa Monica Mountains. It's a pretty big photogrammetrized map, with multiple spawn points. We're gonna do a little series, exploring areas of different spawn points. This week: Point F: The Snake Carspot. We have 5 spawn points in total.

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.
https://www.mumble.info/

I can't recommend enough Crew Chief
https://thecrewchief.org/
He's a helpfull AI fellow in the pits who'll provide you information about your car, your opponents, yell at you or try to encourage you. And most importantly, he will spot for you, in case you have a car in you blind spot.

UI radar are immersion breaking and basically cheating, but this guy will tell you verbally if someone is there on your right. Download, install, select Assetto Corsa in game list, press "Start application" and it should work!

I finally got Crysis VR to run and I've been having tons of fun with it, but it looks like my 6600XT isn't quite VR ready yet.
I want to give it a boost with FSR upscaling. The problem is, that game runs on DX10, and upscaling injectors only support DX11.
However, I've been able to turn on FSR in every game I've played on this card, including Crysis, through AMD's Adrenalin software. How do I get that to work with VR games?
also
>Virtual Desktop
This thing apparently has headset-side upscaling which sounds amazing. Anyone tried it?
>>
>>521177967
Any form of AI or Alogrithmic upscaling is harsh in VR. The approximations of curve fits to pixels is bad and destroys stereoscopy of VR.
>>
>>521177967
VD's headset side scaling is the synchronus-spacewarp thing right?
or asynchronus spacewarp, its one of the two.
It works good if you can hit a steady half of the framerate. I prefer it off if possible, since it makes everything look like you're on a low dose shroom trip.
lines in the distance kinda move and warp, but just for an instant. Hard to read text maybe. doubling your frames for some latency can definitely be worth it though.

Just buy with crypto. Buy like $100 of crypto and just pay with that. If 4chan gets breached worst case is that the (Throwaway) email you used and the bitcoin address get leaked. So long as you don't use the address for anything else it's basically anonymous.

They should use that tech to optimize videogames during creation. Only make high poly assets where people are actually looking.
>>
>>521194291
It's pretty much just as easy to apply that tech to every asset in the game. Recall LoD where things are rendered less the further away they are; you can just apply the same idea and most of the same tech to eye tracked visuals.

this could be used to optimize games during gameplay
since humans only see detail at the exact spot they're looking at (which is about 2 degrees) rendering everything else at 8k is pointless

Walkabout Mini Golf will raise its price to $25 and merge in 6 DLC courses to the base game on May 1.

The game is currently priced at $15, so that means a $10 price hike is coming in just under a month from now.

Upon the price increasing, the following six paid DLC courses will be merged into the base game:

Sweetopia
Laser Lair
Shangri-La
Upside Town
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Alfheim
>>
>>521203560
I think it should have merged in way more. Just like all the courses that are more than 2 years old.
>>
>>521197947
You can see it being delayed and oversmoothed even on this webm for ants. We also have no idea how badly the depth is estimated.

it has lidar, the depth is fine
and smoothing is better than shaking as proven by other camera tracking solutions
it can work fine with properly tracked headset/controllers (read as "much better than nothing") and also more than enough for usage as a drift corrector for things like slimes

I've postponed buying Virtual Desktop because I thought there was no way it could be better than Meta's usb Link or Air Link. Yesterday I became very angry because of micro stutters and overall lag, no matter if using wifi (6ghz dedicated router) or usb (official cable). I thought my PC wasn't good enough (147k, 3080ti). In a desperate move I've finally decided to try VD and goddamn it's better even than usb link.
How the fuck is this possible? How could Meta produce such steaming shit?

i have a babble and it works fairly well even with a beard at weird angles for a bsb
im too lazy to make my own data and submit it for a personalized model but that would likely fix up certain things like tongue not working with beard etc. and improve it for my particular mounting scenario
eyetracking on a unit with the same placement for every user should be much easier than the mouth trackers that are DIY and can vary in many ways so we'll see what they do with it
I'm just glad an option will exist that should work for me can be there assuming Bigscreen doesn't just let you grab their own model and use it in ETVR on your own

Have you ever played a VR game that needs manual reloading?
It's so tedious! Like if CoD made you squat down and clean your gun every time you wanted to play.
It's hard on new players too. Why should someone have to learn dozens of different reload styles for each gun?
Gamers want to use the coolest and best guns not the guns that take thirty seconds to manually reload with plastic VR controllers.
VR movement controls that take more time to do are gimmicks! Nothing more.
Valve figured this out early too! They added item teleport force-grab gloves so that people didn't have to bend over to pick up things off the ground in the game world.
It really is the wii wheel of VR games like the original poster said.

That's actually one of the best parts. Reloading is an action that feels like you've earned the power of the gun. The more powerful the gun the more complex and long the reload motions you have to take
>>
>>521268541
I don't know if this is funposting or shitposting or whatever but manual reloading can absolutely be used in stupid ways be designers. One thing that pisses me off is realistic manual of arms yet enemies are bullet spunges so you have to reload a 30 round magazine after every kill.

Also bolt autism probably isn't a good idea for most games featuring real guns. You should really consider if your game is a simulator or tactical shooter before you implement click and no bang.

I have not played a single VR game that handles bolt weapons well, because fundamentally you're lacking all of the physical feedback that you use when actually racking a bolt on a rifle, yet every dev is more then happy to let you leave the weapon with the bolt not fully forward or to allow you to not rack it all the way. I would rather deal with a single shot break action then a bolt because at least then I know when my weapon is live and not even if it takes far longer.
>>
>>521269898
>bolt autism probably isn't a good idea for most games featuring real guns.
While I hate most of H3VR's controls, the "quick bolt" thing in the advanced control mode is definitely better than e.g. pavlov's "release grip, hope your hand is in the right place for the bolt collider, and regrip".
>>
>>521270267

>do weird motion
>it got stuck part of the way

Yep that's going in my cringe compilation. Crossfire does it well with the autobolting.
>>
>>521270631

>>
>>521270863
Nope only works with auto-reload, which stills need you waggling your hand around to remove mag and insert a new one. The auto part is bolt, racking bolts and other shit that don't matter to have fun.
The game has other issues with gun handling but this aint one of them. I really like also how the game handle scoping with the sniper rifles.
>>
>>521270517
100%, and it's far closer to how it is in real life, especially with 'mad minute' techniques like using your middle finger to pull the trigger

https://youtu.be/ibCHDE8-d0o

>>521271054
racking bolts is 100% required, just make it intuitive
>>
>>521270267
That's a dev problem, they're not properly balancing the assist with the manual appropriate to the gameplay. Magazines are often the same, either it's instant snap into the gun in a way that's not satisfying or it's awkwardly trying to wrangle the physics without any real feedback. Pavlov does the magazines quite well with a generous assist and very simple movement control for the animation but this method alone doesn't work as well for complex movements like the bolt-action, which needs more feedback or more assists.

You could have a semi-automatic system where the last 10% of bolt travel will automatically close unless held so the frustration of a gun not firing because it wasn't perfectly closed doesn't happen.
>>
>>521271248
Unless they start implementing some method to keep the butt of the rifle stuck to your chest when doing funky reload then it practically sucks ass to do.
Something similar to this https://youtu.be/Sgc2ZIZx-F4
>>
>>521270924
>local retard doesn't understand that a real bolt weapon is capable of firing plenty fast
Yes, if you go very fucking slow and deliberate, it'll fuck up less but that feels like shit and is also unrealistic as fuck when I can empty my Mosin in a couple of seconds while staying on target.

>>521271054
Yea, I just wasn't able to give up the tacticool feeling of manual reloading even if it broke balance a little since I'm able to slam home the extended mags far faster then the animations would take. The scope part did feel really good after they patched it to not put you into a black void during the zoom in.

>>521271442
I don't disagree that it's a dev issue, but it doesn't change the fact that I haven't played a single game which handled them well. I honestly think just having a hitbox that you touch which plays a canned animation is perfectly fine since just making things more generous like you suggest still doesn't really work that well since it just changes where you're getting fucked for releasing early or not. Could be less of an issue with Quest controllers instead of an Index where grip release is less precise, though.
>>
>>521271557
H3VR virtual stock is by far the best, I love it and it sucks how many games either don't have it or have a poor implementation. anton should sell it as a unity prefab or something lol
>>
>>521271987
*moves the gun with your head*
umm, no
>>
>>521271968
Then buy a physical stock and mod on a bolt you can grab that lines up, there are always going to be concessions to make when you don't have the same physical feedback of a real gun, everything else you'll do is probably going to be a lot faster to compensate
>>
>>521271987
It's funny seeing VR devs refuse to share their implementations and solutions for common VR problems. All fighting for scraps of a userbase all thinking "yeah this time my game is gonna blow up and i'm gonna be the new gorilla tag".
Example, I boot Contractors and my hand is shaky because reasons. I set aim smoothing to the lowest amount possible and it feels like I'm aiming through molasse. In Pavlov I turn aim smoothing I can't even tell and it fixes all the jitters.
>>
>>521272262
Or I can just refuse to engage with bolt weapons in VR games. They've managed to figure out how to handle reloading magazines in most games that feel smooth and can operate at a realistic speed, but asking devs to extend this logic to bolts is clearly just a bridge too far.
>>
>>521272931
>kills you with a bolt weapn
>>
Ideally, it should never be harder to do something in VR than it is in real life.
>>
>>521273810
It's not. You're not holding up several pounds, dealing with actual recoil impulse beyond an animation, and you never bonk your eye with a scope. For all these benefits you have to make the concession of... being a little more deliberate with your bolt movements. Unthinkable.
>>
I'm playing a videogame. If it ain't fun I aint doing it.
>>
>>521274006
More precisely, you shouldn't fail to do something in VR because the tactile feedback doesn't exist. It needs either a sound cue, useful haptics, visual indication, or greater leniency than reality. Bolt actions are far from the worst offenders. Shit like the Contractors inventory is impossible to use naturally because it doesn't even face a consistent direction and the difficulty of using it is so mismatched with the pace of the game that most players will avoid having to use it as much as possible.

>The auto part is bolt, racking bolts and other shit that don't matter to have fun.

I love racking shit on a single shot guns, or just for fun, or the first time you get weapon

What I question for normie games is dry firing or releasing the bolt/slide with no loaded magazine, or the fire button doesn't double as a release and there's no auto release when inserting a magazine. Just any "why the fuck is the gun not shooting" stuff.
>>
>>521276362
I think there's more normie appeal for that stuff than you'd think, I mean hell you've got the reddit finger meme pretty much universal now and nucod all puts great care into their gun animations which includes all of that sort of operation, one in the chamber mechanics etc

Thanks to whoever posted this pic before and game me the idea.

I've been experimenting VisPro like usage of battery using pic related on an over-the-shoulder belt, and I can say with confidence that this solution is superior and shit like BoboVR is overpriced trash.
3.5h of extra charge from a simple sub-$10 external battery (technically more, but wattage drops below 16W and headset starts slowly bleeding charge after ~220 minutes).
I spent basically the whole day streaming PCVR with the headset always on my head. Play area is the whole flat. Watched a movie while doing dishes. Could go to the toilet while steamvr is on. That shit actually works.

It's so much better when you don't have to be constantly aware of charge like with those small bobovr shit, I honestly regret buying two of them.
I saw that they released a new version of the battery (which is not compatible with the old mounts without update) for $45, for that price you can buy five normal battery packs and just use over-the-shoulder carry.

Too bad the steamvr is absolute fucking trash of a software, that's the only issue.

Wait so do you use steam vr 2.0 or oculus link? The version you get the steamlink app from the meta store. Did you sideload it?
>>
>>521283378
I don't use use steamlink, I use gaygoblin's trash for wireless streaming.
Oculus link works just fine, but wireless performance on it is worse than VD, so I only use it when I stream 500mbps+ bitrate over USB.
>>
i have really bad internet and a pretty bad pc for vr that somehow (barely) works, should i be using steam vr for better latency? or are the visuals nowhere near as good as virtual desktop?

I could live without the increased vibrancy and whatever makes dark colors darker and vice versa, despite making everything beautifully moody, it also fucking blinds me whenever the lights go out in a game
>>
>>521284004
Internet doesn't matter, its your local network quality and setup. Steam VR is free so you might as well see if it works, if you think its lacking after ruling out everything else just purchase virtual desktop.
>>
>>521284004
steamvr is different from steam link
and steamlink is only worth it on qpro because it has eye, for every other headset steamlink is just not good because the focus window of fixed foveated encoding is too small

bring back the lolis
>>
>>521302315
Do you want me to go find a TDA wearing egyptian slutware, bodysuit slutwear, literally just a shirt as a microdress, a bunny suit, literally just neon boyshorts and a micro-bikini top replete with thigh garter, techwear slutwear, or the slutty goth loli? Out of the remainder, slutty office lady and highschool student with a miniskirt would still blend in with the TDAs, leaving exactly 1 who actually is dressed in a way that you'd be able to pick out of the crowd of TDAs if they were to turn around and you couldn't see their face, wearing jeans and a crop top in normal human colors. I'm not the best at math, but that actually is exactly 9/10 or 90%. The fact that you decided to hyperfixate on tattoos as the hill to die on, despite it very clearly being part of a cojoined phrase and then decry that somehow this community holds itself to higher standards makes me laugh.
>>
>>521303124
>leaving exactly 1 who actually is dressed in a way that you'd be able to pick out of the crowd of TDAs
The face is a very big identifier rather than the clothes imo. Even then the clothes here are pretty good compared to the usual tda ones.
I have no problem with your clothes.
I just think your face is ugly looking IMVU with puffy lips and overly emphasized nose.
>>
>>521303347
Anon, I included them because I'm not them. I'm just someone who has a giggle everytime people lambast and complain about normalfags and TDAs in this community, only for the majority to go through great effort to turn their booths into a TDA-lite.
>>
>>521303808
Oh I'm with you on wanting people to not be totally slut wear during comfy meets. But I enjoy a good slutwear when the place is appropriate like /vrlg/ instances or in private.

I just don't see your "great majority" at all on the instances I am in unless I explicitly join a /vrlg/ instance and hence I am confused.

I just don't see how it's an issue when tastes and opinions are boradcasted. We can convince others to change bases or lightly nudge them to lighten up on the make up and puffy lips. It's doable to maintain a more anime feel in the meets.
We're not an IMVU gumroad tda community for a reason. While I won't stop people from being and choosing to be a TDA, I won't stop broadcasting my disdain for them as well. If you can survive my disdain of barrage then you're welcome here just like Rakhabit. Although his tda is pretty tame and is actually the og anime tda rather than the imvu gumroad type so his style actually fits still.
>>
>>521304276
Why do you assume everyone who has a laugh at this blatant doublethink is a TDA who is feeling defensive? I personally don't mind TDAs, but I also would feel like a basic bitch wearing one and don't.
>>
>>521304651
>Why do you assume everyone who has a laugh at this blatant doublethink is a TDA who is feeling defensive?
Why do you assume that I do? I'm just relying to the reply chain since the first reply to mine was a frowny face it made sense that it was the person who was the TDA.

"After sitting in customs for 8 days thanks to Shiftall, my Meganex arrived on the 9th of April. I have spent about 6 hours in the Meganex and here is my review.

Lenses and sweet spot are not great. The FOV is OK if you slide the headset right up against your eyes. There is ALOT of glare.

The overall image quality and clarity is not up to the standard of the Varjo Aero or Pimax Crystal Light. The panels just don’t put out what you would expect given the resolution.

The Meganex is certainly light and that is probably the biggest pro for the Meganex. That being said it moves around and it is really hard to stay in the tiny sweet spot. I am modifying mine to attach to the Big Screen audio strap. This should help with stability and add audio. I know there is already a mod so you can 3D print an adapter for the $50 Vive audio strap.

I have already ordered a BSB2. For $2000 I would not recommend the Meganex. On paper it looks as though it would be worth the money. It just doesn’t live up to the price tag in my opinion.

I am happy with my Varjo Aero, but I just can’t do long flight sim sessions with all that weight on my head. So for me it comes down to the BSB or Meganex. If the BSB is a flop I’ll just go back to my Aero and deal with the weight."

I remember CV1 and I can tell you it sounds like a wonderful idea. What, are you concerned about the latency? CV1 was just as responsive as anything else. About USB bandwidth, or computing power necessary to process the image? It's 2025, and CV1 was running well enough in 2017.

I see no issues here.

>>
>>521343831
>What, are you concerned about the latency? CV1 was just as responsive as anything else.
You are misunderstanding how it worked.
CV1 used the camera only for drift correction, the tracking relied mostly on IMU's, that's why it was fast.
Eye tracking is 100% camera based.
>>
>>521344284
In that case, I've got another example. I had a DIY eye tracker (project name is EyeTrackVR) for index, I'm fairly certain it was processing image through PC, and it didn't look too laggy in VRC. It had tons of issues related to recognizing image, but speed-wise, it was alright - and let's keep in mind that BSB devs probably put more effort into it than eyetrack devs with their 20 different algorithms selectable from a listbox. I refuse to believe this solution is any problematic or dangerous. Not sure if it'll be good for foveated rendering, but even if worst comes to worst, I feel like a minor latency won't kill you in this scenario because you'll then just see stuff in CV1 resolution for one instant.

Guess we'll see how it goes soon enough.

first thing i thought when i read the news about 'hl alyx quest 3 standalone' was that valve were making it so they could also release it with the deckard. but apparently its just some guy who ported half life's assets into a unity game and showed Q3 can run it.

Kind of unrelated but I wonder if eye tracking solves simulator sickness because you can reduce the player's peripheral vision without annoying them near as much as a fixed fov reduction. Players should be able to slowly increase their fov while doing smooth locomotion rather than playing in progressively longer lessions which is frustrating and requires effort to play each day but discipline not to play too long. I've never heard talk about this though. I know a few early VR games tried fov reduction but it just disappeared, I'm assuming because it was annoying when fixed to headset direction.

Another thing that would be nice if headsets could somehow tell you're getting simulator sickness and mitigate it automatically.
>>
>>521358648

When the HMD is wireless standalone performance matters for wireless video performance, eyetracking performance, handtracking performance, headtracking performance, slam performance, any kind of future steps in computer vision, face tracking, bodytracking if that will even be a think with inside out, and then probably ASW/motion smoothing. I mean just about anything the headset does before broadcasting it back to your PC or getting it back and decoding video benefits from headroom. You'd want it to be as future proof as reasonably possible.

a dedicated circuit will always outperform general compute circuit for the same cost
this is the reason we have hardware decode/encode etc

>You'd want it to be as future proof as reasonably possible.
future proofing is a meme, we are limited by tech process/power profile not by architecture design, if you look at the die shots of 5090 chip for example that shit is very simple

>>521369557
where is only so much you can do with 15W
we are limited by physics, a dedicated 1000W machine on the same techprocess plugged into the wall will always outperform glorified mobile chips on battery, so who the fuck cares really

>>521364868
I was thinking about something like the wireless adapter for the vive but built in from the start
>>
>>521370516
you could say the same on why you'd use a 1000W machine and not a 100000W server somewhere and so on. splitting the headset into multiple machines that stream video does not work.
too complicated, expensive, setup intensive,location-limited... a good device is one where you put on and everything works.
>>
>>521371717
Running a custom wireless protocol when there's high speed existing protocols and hardware is a massive mistake. The absolute most you should ever do is try and use Wifi 7. People are unlikely to have wifi7 compatible stuff but the hardware exists and it's stable
>>
>>521369354
>>521369486
I just realized facetracking seems to be a big problem for VR headsets to implement

As you thin the headset and get it closer to the face for better balance, your vantage point for facetracking cameras gets worse. Also a typical face gasket design that spreads weight evenly on the face will cover the eyebrows, so you want to use a halo strap, which some people like but they have downsides with your typical heavy headset. I always wondered why the quest pro despite being pancake and having a rear battery stuck out so much and wasted all the thinness, it's so it can see your face. But this is bad for FOV, comfort, and fast head turning. Shits fucked.

But really the dumbest thing about the quest pro was putting cameras on the controllers and doing slam tracking on them. Quest pro was a meme "productivity" and VR confererencing / chat headset. It would've been way cheaper if they sold it with normal controllers. You could sell the pro controllers to gamers.

Not how it works. Top-end PC's are actually the strongest for tasks we have.
There is only so much you can parallelize, so in the end you are bottlenecked by "single core" workloads, and imaginary 100MW servers can't even hold a candle to normal gaming PC's for those.

And I don't care about "good enough" when even the absolute best we have is not good enough yet.

>>521372574

I wish VR "productivity" wasn't a meme. I would love if I could use my quest headset as a replacement for a laptop with some slick new interface that makes the mouse and keyboard obsolete, but no. There is no software and VR interfaces are absolute dogshit ports of flat UIs designed for touchscreens (with no screen to touch)
>>
>>521378658
Honestly, a Quest can be a decent replacement for a laptop display these days, and with some networking magic, probably be even fine as a standalone device with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard for when traveling if you remote into your home computer since you're not going to really mind a bit of latency when typing or browsing the internet. Out of idle curiosity, I tried writing up some documents on my Quest 3 and it was fine if you're competent enough to touch type instead of needing to stare at your hands.
>>
>>521378658
>dogshit ports of flat UIs designed for touchscreens
You have no idea how angry I get when I see scrollbars in VR UI.
Fucking virtually unlimited space and niggers still make shit like it's 5" phone.
>>
>>521380569
Scrollbars are fine if you just have to point your controller at the window and then use the joystick to scroll, or can use the trigger to grab in the window and fling. They're only cancer when you have to actually touch the scrollbar itself.
>>
>>521381305
They are always cancer in VR.
You have unlimited space, use it for fuck sake.
>>
>>521381502
What, do you want to infinitely scroll by looking in circles left or right? How the fuck else do you suggest to present a massive list of content that would exceed even tiling over a 180 degree dome in front of you?
>>
>>521381502
no no you see you HAVE to be limited by the design capability limiting physical objects because...you just do ok!!
>>
>>521381716
> massive list of content
Actual examples?
Because what usually happens is nigger devs adding a scrollbar when you have 10 out 11 elements already visible.
There are very few specific instances where the scrollbar is the best solution.
>>
>>521382297
Anytime you're browsing Steam workshop for mods or other similar stuff like VAM's hub and your local downloads, especially if you're getting thumbnails displayed instead of just text so they're eating up massive amounts of visual space. I also personally prefer a scrollbar to having to crane my neck up and down too far, and it's only relatively recently that optics are good enough that you don't have to point the center of your view at text to read it, so I'd rather deal with a scroll bar that keeps everything largely within the horizon line then, but I can understand why that's a personal opinion at least.
>>
>>521382820
>Anytime you're browsing Steam workshop for mods or other similar stuff
Hard disagree. Each entry is independent. Pages would work better.
>>
>>521383040
>scroll bars are bad
>but individual pages are good

I strongly disagree with you then, because it's far easier to have a scrolling system that is easy to engage with while page systems are going to be much more annoying since you have to actually press the button to turn the page, which requires way more precision then pointing at the window and using your joystick like a scroll wheel, or if you use sideways on the joystick, it's going to have a scrolling speed that is never going to be precise, leading to either a slow pace where you're waiting between pageflips or overshooting your target.

Because accidentally triggering gestures is annoying and intentionally triggering them can be finicky? Because I don't want to have to turn in circles to keep reading when I can keep myself still physically and just have the text scroll past my eyes, since spinning in circles while trying to focus on a tiny section is a great way to make yourself nauseous?

This.
For VR, even 3d interfaces are actually viable, because we are stereoscopic.
No real need to cucked to single flat plane like we still live in 80ies with 320x240 CRT.

>>521384428
>how you're going to solve them then
Only using the flat brain?
Grid of elements with page control buttons at the bottom which dynamically resize when the laser gets close (if that's needed even).
When you press, grid slides left/right by page size (also similar to how our eyes work, just fyi), when you turn your head around, you can still see the previous/next page.
But that's for independent elements using only one plane. You can do even more once you start thinking in 3d.
>>
>>521384428
you are taking things to the extremes, and documents don't have to take up your entire field of view either

>reading some document
>the next page is right there to the right of the current page, turn your head 10 degrees at most
>leashcucked and can't keep turning? drag the document back to the left after 4 or 5 pages
>or scroll if you a flat enjoyer, doesn't have to be mutually exclusive

>text input
>virtual touch keyboard where you point and waggle or pinch your fingers at what letters you want like a child ordering off a restaurant menu (what we have today)
>vs using hand tracking to have a virtual keyboard
>or a virtual pen an paper with OCR
try using any text input on the quest without a controller. It's awful and there is no reason for it to be. Modern OCR is very very good even for messy handwriting and has been for over a decade at this point.

>When you press, grid slides left/right by page size (also similar to how our eyes work, just fyi), when you turn your head around, you can still see the previous/next page.

So exactly like a scroll bar instead of moving in continuous manner that allows the user more fine control, you want to have it move in discreet chunks and still require you to manually aim at a button instead of being able to control it by pointing to designate an active window and then just sliding your thumbstick. Truly a revolutionary idea.
>>
scrolling is fine, scrollbars are done once you have eyetracking. You would simply look at the list and press a stick or do some hand gesture like rubbing your finger or flicking to scroll it.
>>
>>521386049
>vs using hand tracking to have a virtual keyboard
>or a virtual pen an paper with OCR

Quest 3 hand tracking is barely capable of recognizing the clear gesture of bringing your thumb and index finger together to trigger the menu, while also commonly triggering phantom grab inputs, and you're trying to get it to accurately and precisely track a couple of degrees of finger splay and maybe a quarter of inch of depth. Writing coherently in freehand open space is not as trivial a task as you make it out to be, and either you'd have to write billboard sized which will further fuck up people's handwriting or you're butting up against the limits of the Quest's ability to track fine gestures again.
>>
>>521386094
scrollbar limits the amount of items visible arbitrary
if you if you fine with using stick, you can use ipod like motions to switch the focus page, and it will still look better be more readable than the continues scroll of scrollbar, that's just how our eyes work (good luck using scroll without the stick input btw)
and that's still only using flatshit brain for the cherry picked one of the best-case scenarios for the scrollbar

I've noticed it's not perfect, especially tracking ring and pinky fingers and grab pressure/duration, but I assumed it's because my fingers aren't perfectly straight, or that maybe it's a VRC issue and not a quest issue

>try to pinch, hold, and drag middle finger to move in VRC
>opens menu instead
>pinch ring finger to PTT
>opens menu instead because it confused my curved ring finger with my middle finger that curves the other direction
>why the fuck are my hands misshapen like this

>that camera based finger tracking is anywhere near precise enough to be able to handle this
Says who. Nobody forces you to design the system which requires millimeter precision inputs.
You design it around the strengths and weaknesses of your hardware.
And right now you are focusing on weaknesses while completely ignoring the strengths.

Reading is the perfect example of how you don't want to see all information at the same time and it's usually not "search" activity. I think the last time we used infite space for that kind of thing was heiroglyphics and then at some point paper was invented that could fit into scrolls and then books

It's kinda fucked that shit like steamvr limits the keyboard input.
Want to reply to a message from a friend? Slowly type it using the virtual keyboard, physical keyboard input is just ignored.

The steamvr redirects that's annoying too.
Using the display mirror and clicked on store page? It opens the cucked mobile version in steamvr.
They more they try to "refine" it, the more I hate it.

Good news everyone. I got a complete archive of /vrg/ threads, going all the way back to 2016. Some anon from #bibanon had a private archive and dumped the threads for me. So now I have all ~1.4 million posts so far, cool. I also spent a bunch of autism making a frontend to it, so now even if you aren't a smelly nerd you can browse old threads and run queries at:

https://archive.vrg.party/

You can still download the raw dump as well (linked on the page). Enjoy the nostalgia, false or otherwise.

NEW VR GAME ALART

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2805770/Elements_Divided/

It has a free beta playtest now. Anon and I just tried it for a bit and while it is unity asset store low poly slop, multiplayer actually works with private lobbies, has a PvE mode, and is kind of fun.

I'll host a thread lobby in like ~45 minutes at 1030 EST. In the meantime, click the 'join playtest' thing on the steam page and you should auto-accepted. There's a 5 minute tutorial and you can grind some singleplayer to unlock more abilities if you want. good elementing elementers. It's good stupid fun. Easy execution but still some depth to comboing everything; the smash bros to rumble's street fighter or whatever. All the elements have some fun shit to play with, and you can switch classes without penalty. It does have basic bitch low poly assets, but they're at least not cloying and readable enough gameplay-wise. In fact the game gets a lot of the little things right; there's private lobbies with a code, you can screw around in the lobby in VR instead of just staring at a menu or some shit. The voice chat was broken, but presumably they'll fix it for launch (basic bitch vivox), and mumble works fine in the interim. And yes, while this could've been a vrchat map (and in fact there is this one magic fight map that's roughly the same mechanically), it's way more satisfying when you're not playing at 24fps and 600 ping. My expectations were low but I was honestly impressed.

Definitely worth trying while it's still free for the weekend. You can even unlock everything at the start instead of having to do the player retention leveling grind.
>>
>>521443593
The PvE mode is pretty good too. It goes for the "few enemies with big health bars" rather than the "lots of soft enemies" PvE genre, but it fits with the general balancing.

I don't know what the actual player limit is, but we had 5 and the size of lobby menu suggests it's probably 8 or 10. And again the fact that you can screw around in the lobby practicing moves or just chatting makes it way more pleasant to host than some other VR games. It could a bit more graphical polish, and maybe some objective gamemodes besides just stock/time matches, but no major jank or game-breaking bugs. Check it out if you actually like VR games.

This is fun, thanks.
It's funny to see how insane the graph initially was with the word "soccer" when we won the tournament compared to any other year.

I still remember fondly our build up to making all the models together and make it happen.
Picking the theme songs
The celebrations from everyone resulting from it.

Was a fever dream, so fun. Soccer was what made me want to make tanabata and wheel of 4chan and event making in general. Making something bigger than the sum of our parts is what Soccer and that was inspirational.

Wish streamable wasn't a dick. This is down now but this was the celebration video

I will be posting something in the next few days asking for everyone's opinions about remaking the soccer roster and hopefully getting people involved in making models for the team again.
