can someone explain to me why

Do they mean LLs or generics, or both? With Delves and Helves I've almost always run stacks where the lord is a combat focused duelist on a dragon/big monster where the operative gameplan is dueling and killing the enemy general, and then any heroes they have, then any problematic enemy units.
And then I always pack a mage or sorceress as the other hero in the stack, usually fire for casting flaming skull across the enemy lines or life if helves.
But that had me wondering, why are caster lords just better? are they simply more powerful mages than hero equivalents? Or do you build them so they can also hold their own in a fight? How do you do that while still balancing what magic they can do. I remember Malekith being pretty simple though if I was playing him again there would probably be some Dhar spells I would just forgo because I remember them not being that good.

I want to use lords other than the generic melee on a dragon (in absolute fairness I will be honest that with Delves part of why I did that is because I like the female dread lord a lot. 'DRUCHII TYRANT') so if someone could explain the power of mage LLs and Generic Lords I would appreciate it thank you.

There is a dedicated gamemode in 40k for fighting inside the ships. Boarding Actions. It would actually make sense unlike disembarking and fighting on islands which happens right now. The thing is, it's all about close quarter combat in tight corridors, with big units not being allowed in. Which may be harder to do than copying BFGA battles.
It would be actually funny if it served as antidoomstack mechanic too, because suddenly Legend's army of gorillaman and 19 Emperor's Titans is useless if intercepted in space.

Not going to happen, it would utterly kill both the hype and purpose of the game, while at this same time handicapping dlc potential. If you can't conquer Terra as Abaddon, they may as well not bother, just like TW:W would be pointless if you couldn't do this same to Altdorf as ground Abaddon. Total War games with small scale are dead on arrival and it has been proven repeatedly recently as well.

I mean my Imrik campaign is effectively over, no one can contest me 1 on 1, and the only things that would challenge me would be if I declared war on the whole world but that will be fucking annoying to deal with so I don't want to do that. But I also have a pipeline set up for hero mages and I'm using standard helf lords on dragons (I have one princess, i dont remember if shes really that different from the helf prince on dragon when you get right down to it when they both have dragons). I'll keep it in mind for next time but as of now, i don't know if I need a caster lord.
Is there a resource for checking what mounts generic lords and mages can get and by variation too? Like the fire mage (helf) can get a sun dragon but i dont think the other mages can, I know empire beast mage can get a griffon. These are important distinctions to keep in mind and I dont know if there's a good resource for figuring it out.

Depends on the faction, but Caster Lords are typically better in the long run as they tend to get better mounts than the Hero Casters (not always though, especially for TWW1 factions). They also tend to be a bit more point efficient with their options, at 2 points are spell rather than 3.
But grabbing relevant spells means not grabbing important red line skills. Again, depends on the faction, but most factions have some great early buffs from 4 points into the red line. My second Lord is typically a caster, because I tend to get a second army out well before I can recruit caster Heroes. After that I go with melee lords + caster hero. If I get enough +rank improvements for Lords I tend to swap back to Casters though, since you can often pick up key spells and red line buffs right at recruiting.

as for what I said about no challenge, I think the game is actually providing me one. Just this turn Morathi got the REGIONAL POWER event. See I was kind of leaving the donut alone because I had bigger problems closer to home. But now it seems tyrion and co can't stop shitting themselves so I may have to get involved. Leave it to a son of Caledor to get shit done.
I do actually own Caledor itself thanks to the event. But I'm kind of preoccupied with single handedly defending the Kislev passage from Chaos and also you can't see it in this screenshot but I've sent 3 stacks to go begin a long war against kairos and the other orcs that i have to beat to get campaign victory.

So I'm asking, how best should I get imrik and company from the Dark Lands all the way to caledor? It's going to be a hell of a trek, at least I think I have military access along the whole way or can easily get it. Any ideas? Should I disband imrik and re-recruit him at Caledor itself and then recruit a new stack there? (obviously not before handing off Imrik's current stack to someone else).

Ostankya strong as always, returning to Praag actually make campaign different from other kislev playthroughs because you get covered from two sides.
Katarin, got harder at first, and you really need to cheese your first siege, but gets better after. New frost maiden recruitment gives them a trait that literally slaughters leadership of infantry.
Kostaltyn - was too hard for me, because skaven have too many armies by turn 4 already. Wish he had better starting units instead of horsemen, and fighting kislev vs kislev for the first two battles is pure cancer.
Boris still the same, there are actually few doctrines that empower him personally, but for some reason fighting against your first enemy (khorne) got fucking harder than against Archaon. Would greatluy benefit from any caster hero in early game

Do you ever think we've kind of gone past the break even point in "Factions led by legendary lords vs minor factions"?
Because we're at like a 1:1.5 ratio where it used to be about 1:3 and 1:2 ratio in games 1 and 2.
It feels like IE is kind of a clusterfuck now and you can't help but pick up at least a handful of garbage traits because you're forced into war with a LL who's inevitably next door

Yes it sucks. The minor factions are almost all eliminated by turn 40 because if they aren't a starting enemy for a LL then they are next door to one, leading to their quick demise anyway. Medieval 2 came out 20 years ago. It's like comparing COD:Bloops 6 to COD1. If anything the issue people will have with M3 is the sheer bloat of DLC.

Theoretically you could release these as full on attila style expansions (which would mean a turkish DLC for the high medieval campaign, an Ottoman DLC for the collapse/pike and shot DLC. Probably with some kind of discount where if you own a factions DLC in a prior historical period you get them half off or whatever)

Total wars tend to release with 8-10 factions. You have a pick of who you start with, but you can see a DLC for all number of shit. While the anon consulting AI has anachronisms (Byzantine empire didn't co-exist with Epirus and Trebizond until after the 1200s, Khazars are long gone at this point, ect.) the principle is the same - Italian-city state DLC gives you factions that play like the Vampire Counts, nomad DLC that lets you play a whole different style, ect.

An Orc Boyz and a dwarf are fundamentally the same unit - same spearmanni (Or axemanni). Just different skeleton, animations, and obviously model and texture. The difference is in presentation and in stats. Which is what's key for a historical total war to make up for the deficiency of reality lacking fantastical units. Make spearmanii vs Spearmanii different the way orc boyz and dwarfs are:

It's hard to go from the chorf's GOAT shit to leylines. It's an issue with DLC creep where the subsequent lords have more fun or thought out mechanics than their predecessors. Updates can help mitigate that, but some factions just have more involved campaign map experiences than others.

Yeah if there is effort put in then you're fine. The medieval period is tied with the Rome 2 period for an abundance of visualizations to work with (compared to attila) so as to avoid we arr rook same. I like the little tee-shirt-jerseys the Spanish high medieval knights wore for instance. The biggest hurdle for M3 as I see it is that like it or not it would not release fully stocked. Like WH2 or Wh3 it'd need a lot of time to ferment and fill in the gaps. The question is how you approach that. I'd say fully releasing the map and then filling it in is much better than going regional and expanding it later. I did not buy WH3 until IE came out, I did not buy Pharaoh until the combined dynasties map was confirmed. So if they did a M3 that was just Western Europe if it had Spain+Maghreb/Italy/Sicily I'd probably get because that'd give me mileage of stuff to play/mod with. The game map was actually huge even pre-dynasties. But it was shaped weird, the region itself is relatively small compared to other games that cram in entire continents, and people are too retarded to consider the first two factors, so this meme that it was tiny gained way too much traction.

You can describe the vast majority of martially inclined LLs in the tabletop the same way. Both in Fantasy and 40k, it was almost always the case thatt the best combat lord you could get was a generic one with the most meta gear, not the named option.

As someone actively modding for it (As texturing/model editing is basically free miniature painting and there's an off chance others can enjoy my work once I release it), the two big problems were - relating to the map the arbitrary omission of Greece and Mesopotamia. I have no evidence, just my hunch, but the Greeks are likely the most popular Bronze Age choice so having them gone at first was offputting. Then having Troy before it leads to this goldilocks situation of two separate total wars with no way to join the two. Imagine if WH1 and Wh2 existed but there was no confirmation or timeline for Mortal Empires. so if you want helves you gotta do X, if you want empire you gotta do Y. It naturally pissed people off.

The other issue is the unit variety. I remain convinced they wanted to do an iron age campaign shift with the original DLC plans given how almost everything East of the Hittites and Egyptians is rooted in much later representations and references. I think it remains distinct from just being a prologue to Rome 2 as it retains much of the bronze age feel, but you get more freedom with a prevalence of cavalry and there are proto-hoplites and Sparta with the Messenian wars to have popular appeal. That and Assyria. I don't expect I'll have the time to mod it in but I liked the thought of homerifying the campaign - basically rendering it to where everyone looked and fought as they did in Homer's 8th century. You're already a little bit of the way there with Assyria and the Cimmerians, some of the Hittite's gear being Neo-Hittite derived.
