I've been playing SF6 a bit lately due to the season and it's a game that gets boring fast because it's a bit too homogenized but I have played roughly the same hours in both games (around 500) and in SF6 I feel like at around the 200hr mark I was already playing against the human being rather than the systems and the character design and in Tekken I still haven't played a single game where I felt I was playing a person and their habits and not just a continuous knowledge check. Shit I can fucking barely break throws still and I practice that for a little while every day. There has to be a sweet middle point between something as homogenized as SF6 and this.

As you say Tekken is absolutely miserable to play for intermediate players. That's not a S2 problem, that's always been a Tekken problem. Tekken is only fun at the very casual level where nobody knows what they're doing and at the very high level where both players are knowledgeable and know what the opposing character can do. The problem is that the very casual level doesn't exist in the age of the internet, almost everybody is going to progress at least to the intermediate level thanks to the ease with which you can learn stuff about the game. But Tekken simply cannot sustain a big playerbase of intermediate level players because it takes actual thousands of hours to progress and obtain enough knowledge to get to the next level. So people just quit instead.
