It's important to have the correct mindset about campaign v multiplayer. That being that a true Halo game is a campaign experience first and foremost.I'd be perfectly fine with the CE remake having firefight or some other PvE mode as its "multiplayer" offering for this reason.Halo CE/1 had multiplayer thrown in the game in the last few months of development for the same reason any multiplayer was in a console game at the time, it was just expected to be there. The campaign WAS the game, and the multiplayer was extra. Now, it did turn out to be really good and pretty addicting, but it's important to understand that this existed in mostly a party game atmosphere. Yes, there were comp tournaments, but they are not representative of the average Halo CE multiplayer session.Halo 2, or really rather Xbox Live, changed this, and set this unrealistic standard of Halo multiplayer being the face of the series. It was never meant to last, but it stuck, even as CoD 4 and onwards drained the popularity 3 years later.tl;drA PVE-only game is sorely needed at this point to correct this wrongdoing and artificial ballooning of Halo's multiplayer to be its core identity.

Why is SPV2 so loved but SPV3 is hated? Aren't they the same mod but 2 would theoretically have less features? I'm replaying anniversary CE on MCC and I've found a few of these swanky dudes in the original graphics mode, which to me indicates they were part of the original game. They don't seem to interact to anything you do to them except for getting shot at. Do they serve any purpose besides "Hehe, you guys found our hidden moa"? Like is there an achievement for them like with skulls in later games? There's at least one level that has at least two of them.

Characters and their personalities were clumsily handled and were very simplistic and flat. Case in point the captain of the infinity. Also why would the chief be an 'aging spartan' he's literally no older than he was in halo 3 because of cryo sleep.The campaign in 5 was just... holy fuck. What were they thinking? The guardians were absurd. Why would the Forerunners make giant things with wings to enforce the peace when they could just as easily use a dreadnought or some other capitol ship, along with warrior servants and sentinels? If these things were so powerful why did they not employ them en mass against the flood? If they did why did we never hear about it? There's way too many unnecessary plot holes. If they wanted to explore Forerunner superweapons but on a smaller scale than the Halo array, they could have given us a closer look at any of the many more conventional options, ie basically any Forerunner capitol ship.I can appreciate what they tried to do with exploring a rampant Cortana. It shows how dangerous a rampant AI can be. But I think from a story/character development perspective it would have been much better for the Chief to have to adapt to and accept losing Cortana, rather than face her as a villain. It also would be far more relatable to the audience. EVERYONE eventually deals with losing someone close to them. It's almost universally relatable. Very few if any people have had to fight the half crazy reconstructed mind/corpse of their dead grandpa.
