I'll be honest, I don't have particularly high hopes. First, they are still limited by the free version DnD 5e, so no cool classes/sublasses like Articifer / Hexblade / Swordsbard / etc allowed. Second, they've balanced the first game around the free 5e power level, so it's likely going to be the same.
If anything I hope Unfinished business 2 will happen.

After 347 hours I finally managed to finish my 2nd playthrough yesterday. I successfully turned Expanse into a complete criminal shithole
>Nomos cut off my Hutt Cartel from Imperium
>Arbites were outlawed and turned into criminals
>Chorda's realm has fallen into ruin and became a nest of Pirates
>Malice became a Pirate
>Marazhai became a Corsair
>Jae became a Crime Lord and turns out she hated Bloodspun Web to the point she started a war with them lol
>Fellowship of the Void grew in power
>Kasballica grew in power
>Vheabos VI became a pirate den
>Footfall got an Iconoclast ending with poorfags increasing crime
>Rykad became a daemon world spreading corruption
>New Rykad became a shithole
>Almost all companions either killed each other or suicided. Only Abelard died normally, but was haunted by visions of his wife and death of his granddaughter. Solomorne survived and started to larp as a Batman and became some shadowy crime fighter
I only regret not managing to make Yrliet a Corsair too

But anon how did it take you so long? Did you read everything, including the books/data in inventory slowly and took our time with combat, not speeding up animations or?
>>

>What role are you playing?
WOTR restart #7. So far had one run end in act 3, one in act 4, and the rest already in act 1. The one I start today will be the one though, for sure. I just need to spend a few more hours trying to find the perfect portrait for my dolly and curse the fact that there's almost no cool male portraits out there despite the internets overflowing with AI shit.

>not managing to make Yrliet a Corsair too
What happened to her? She became a warrior?
>>
>>536984562
Isn't that a typical run length for a turn-based tranny in WOTR, I'd assume the same was true for RT. Guessing the loading screens still account for like 50 of those hours.
>>
>>536984762
I can't imagine how tedious WOTR would be in turn-based. There's literally 100's of combat encounters

I had party size of 8 most of the time. Each significantly increasing length of battles
I only started to speed up animations near the end when I got really, really exhausted of this playthrough. I don't do it usually because it's not immersive and doesn't look cool

I maxxed out enemy buff sliders and then further increased them with toybox. Battles took much longer initially in act 1 and act 2. I even had to restart some. Entire Heartless, Forgefiend ship, Footfall and Rykad in particular took long. I wish there was a better option to spawn more enemies. And I realized that I could even do it with Toybox too late.

I kept making characters and thematic teams. Separate teams for former Arbites, for Criminals, for Xenos and Xenophiles, for Admech, some feral world barbarians and whatever else I could think of. Many ideas were unfinished like Breacher team. In the end my retinue was 39 characters, leveling them up took super long. And equipping. Once I even unequipped everything from everyone and reequipped again to reassign items and rework builds. Eventually I decided that game is obviously not designed around having so many characters and so there was not enough stuff for everyone to make them fun. I again unequipped everyone and started to Toybox spawn copies of items I already once acquired and equipping teams properly again. So I don't have to waste even more time on unequipping items from one character just to put it on other before every mission. Would be nice if there was some loadout system in game like this which could check which items are equipped on whom and then switch to a different loadout if other unit already took this item for himself in a team, but alas

In general it takes me 2x or 3x as much time to beat anything. I often revisit locations just to check if I didn't miss anything. I intentionally generated more battles to fight with my teams. I'm diagnosed with aspergers too - meme as it may be, it's still given for something I guess
>>
>>536984726
yeah
>>
>>536987715
How do you make custom (d)eldar mercs? I don't think it toybox has such functionality when I've played RT.
>>
>>536981147
I feel like most of the attack dialogue would be better without the "Die!" At the end. In my head my character was always calm and composed before he committed himself to combat, so it was difficult to reconcile that with the dialogue.

Spawn whatever unit you want, most likely hostile ones with Toybox. Search n pick > Unit > type something to filter
Use force recruit on them in Party screen in Toybox. Either in "enemy" or "nearby" tab
Then you can add Archetypes to them normally through leveling and whatever other talents you want like Aeldari Equipment through toybox in "Features". Homeworld and Origin you need to add through toybox too. They won't show above classes in UI, but will be in passive talents anyway and work
I looked at Marazhai abilities and manually added them too to deldar mercs in Abilities. Like Joyful Torture
It's janky as hell. Stats for some reason sometimes show up as massively bigger than they actually are during leveling. For some reason Eldar equipment still won't show on them, I guess game thinks they are human models anyway. I used redress mod to manually choose a drip on them
>>
>>536984810
That's why endgame always feels like a slog to me. Early game you can rtwp everything, midgame you have to turn based the more difficult stuff, and late game you have to do it for everything. Thank god for toybox's longer buffs because holy fuck does reapplying everything constantly suck
>>
>>536990493
>Thank god for toybox's longer buffs because holy fuck does reapplying everything constantly suck
it's so funny how so many defend a system that needs a band-aid mod to fix how fucking stupid and boring it is
>>
>>536990493
You can RTWP the entire game, and if you can't its a problem of either your buildcrafting, tactics or difficulty settings.
>>
>>536990493
>midgame you have to turn based the more difficult stuff, and late game you have to do it for everything
Early game is the most difficult though since you don't yet have the tools to beat everything easily.
Lategame is when you can just buff up and auto attack everything to death. Maybe occasionally sprinkle in an aoe disable or single target nuke spell.

And I almost forgot. But when going to another area for the first time, those spawned and recruited enemies weirdly reset to some default version. First time I was making a Wych companion, I spawned deldar girl and then when I took her into a team she defaulted to a male wych kek. Only recruited Hekatrix wasn't transitioning. After first "reset" they work ok. So it's best to make a save (obviously), spawn those few versions of whatever unit you want, take them into your team and got to Chapel or Astropathic Choir so they can default, reset or whatever it is. Check which are ok, reload and then spawn the correct one, then take her with you to Chapel anyway just in case and only then start altering them. You can change their names in Toybox too clicking that button next to their name in "Party"
>>
>>536990851
Who defends it? I love WOTR but the game is a janky piece of shit and their encounter design is more like something out of a Diablo game than a CRPG, even with RTWP in mind.
>>
>>536990853
>>536990978
I'll just straight up admit I am very much a casual when it comes to dnd. I leave the difficulty as is but by the time late game rolls around I barely know what's going on. Whenever I try to use spells that aren't damage dealing I feel like the enemy just ignores it, or it doesn't go through spell resistance, and all the work on making a build and planning around it and still getting a mediocre success rate feels silly when I could just nuke them instead.

Even in BG2 my strategy was to block a dooryway with my heaviest guys and then bombard the other room with every aoe spell and alchemist's fire I could find, but by the time I'm fighting a dragon in the open that doesn't work anymore and I'd get my ass kicked.
>>
Heavily armoured orc with big hammer or half-naked orc with big hammer for WotR unfair
>>
>>536992805
>I leave the difficulty as is but by the time late game rolls around I barely know what's going on.
I would say anything more than "moderately weaker enemies" and 0.8 incoming damage multiplier is going to hurt if you don't know what you're doing on RTWP. There really is no shame in tweaking it down to that level or lower though because as I'm sure you noticed by now the encounter design of the game is all over the place. You can be having a relatively smooth experience for 6-7 levels, and then suddenly three overleveled smilodons appear and rape your party to death in one round.
>Even in BG2 my strategy was to block a dooryway with my heaviest guys and then bombard the other room with every aoe spell and alchemist's fire I could find, but by the time I'm fighting a dragon in the open that doesn't work anymore and I'd get my ass kicked.
No shame in simple tactics, but I find more than anything in PF you just need to focus on ensuring overall tankyness. Focus on stacking AC through buffs, if the difficulty isn't too high you can probably achieve enough with just some of a handful of buffs (Shield of Faith, Barkskin, Shield, Blur, Mage Armor for unarmored characters, Haste if possible).

I wish it was a Diablo game. The only time you get a default hit chance of under 50% in a Diablo game is either at the very last few levels of Diablo or in late Act IV in D2.
>>
>>536994446
I really don't see the appeal at all so I could never get through a Devil playthrough. Demon appeal is obvious (in many ways, could be played as resisting dark influence, only leaning into the rage aspect, or even going full hog pleasure seeking evil demon), and has the advantage of actually having writing and a story that starts early. Devil appeal is, what? They're demons but more anal about order? So basically cuck demons. And its a late game path, so it matters for about an hour. Also why is it even open to Azata, it makes no sense how if you were gonna go dark as Azata it'd be anything except into Demon (we even see an example of that with Arue's old friend in act 4). Come to think of it, its all so crap I can only surmise the entire Devil path was backer content.

I like Regill because he's exactly what he's supposed to be. Whether I'm playing as a neutral evil power hungry madman or a lawful good chivalrous champion of justice, I will always appreciate his position as it stands with or against me.

>The monster disappeared, and silence returned once more. Steam rises from freshly baked cookies and fragrant tea on the table. Arueshalae gazes at her dream. You've never seen such joy on her face. “I... I just want to live here, in the mortal world. With you. I've solved the goddess's riddle. This is my true dream!”

>Arueshalae’s fragile body flares with a rainbow light, a swarm of blue butterflies surrounds her. She looks at you with shining eyes. “I love you. Will you be with me? Will you share my dream?”

>The girl flinches, but doesn’t pull her hand away. She squeezes your hand with her dry, hot fingers. “I believe you. You must be real — I don’t want to imagine a world where you’re not.”

>As if she was just waiting for that, Arueshalae answers your smile with one of her own. “Together, no hardship will scare us. We’ll get through it! We definitely will!”

>The heat radiating from Arueshalae’s body warms you and fills you with peace. Closing her eyes, she leans closer into you, her face moving toward yours...

>Arueshalae takes your hand in her small, hot palm, and the world around you fades away.

I bless this thread with my hands.

Yes although I'm not certain if it actually worked? Someone told me it didn't apply automatically so I patched it after starting my save. I haven't had any bugs so far but I saw a thing on the wiki that Tremere are supposed to be able to use Doninate in dialogue but never saw the option. The Sewers weren't bad really, I could see the big monsters being annoying normally but Thaumaturgy shreds through them.

Archetypes clearly still exists
In some gamescom blog or video "packages" were mentioned. I think what they did was basically bundling of multiple related talents together. Like various Burst attack related talents now come automatically with Rapid Fire. You just pick if you want Burst Attack bundle or Area Attack bundle for your Soldier. That way it's similar, but you will need less levels in game so less frequent leveling, but bigger and more meaningful choices, as a response to the most common complaint about RT leveling.
I guess we will get to pick an Ordo during character creation too, since they even made a vote about it

Camellia's smooth, soft and perfect elven skin pressed against your body. Her hard nipples gently poking your chest. You give her perky tits a quick squeeze and lick before putting her down on the bed. As your cock enters her tight elven pussy a feeling of pure bliss envelops your entire body. Her legs respond immediately by wrapping themselves around you in a tight embrace while her nails dig deep enough for a lil blood to start trickling down your back. You let out a moan before she quickly replies: Pleasure and Pain, the best combination, is it not?

Due to constant complaints all romances for all future crpgs will now be generic lawful good blonde virgin princesses that are madly in love with the PC and want to be married and have large families. Every other female character will be either too old or too ugly to be considered a romantic prospect.

I know you meant 'Disney movie-like' but taking the idea in the older sense.

A fairy tale like CRPG would be starting with your hands and feet cut off and left to die in the woods instead of starting as a prisoner. Involve ruthless trickery and betrayal of all obstacles to your goals whether the target really had it coming it or not. And stealing, lots of stealing all the magic items you can from every witch, dragon, and giant you get jealous of.

cRPG more or less refers to a specific style of rpg where it's a conversion of table top rpg games to the computer. Morrowind and other first/third person games don't do that, they're still rpgs on a computer but they're not a computer rpg
>>
Are you a superstar?
>>
>>537082450
Do you mean turn-based combat.

Does Fallout 2 count but Fallout 3 is disqualified.

>>

>they're not a computer rpg
Uhm yes they are. They may not fit into this particular style of CRPG but they are still computer RPGs.
There's a mod that adds isometric view into morrowind, would that make your autism happy then?
>>
>>537083071
>>537083214
Not necessarily. the cRPG genre as far as I'm aware is just table top rpgs but on a computer. That's where the name originally came from, and it was just never updated or corrected. Fallout 1 and 2 follow grps or whatever it's called, but fallout 3 is just a shooter with rpg elements.
>>
>>537083071
Turn-based isn't a criteria. Turns were just invented for table-top to emulate real time, since you can't have players yelling what they do simultaneously.
But in any case, turns/real-time doesn't impact whether it's a crpg.

Morrowind is grandfathered in as a CRPG in the Wizardry tradition, but no other first-person games are allowed after this.
>>
>>537081329
froggy told me it was wildly successful and made trillions
>>
>>537083338
>Fallout 1 and 2 follow grps
It doesn't. Actually, early on in the development of fallout 1 they tried to use GURPS rules but they scrapped the idea after noticing it didn't work. Thus the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system was born.
So yeah, fallout 1 has no TTRPG rules though they are clearly somewhat inspired by them.
>>
>>537083843
Didn’t the gurps guy refuse to let them use his ruleset because he thought the game was too violent or something?
>>
steps to determine if a game is a crpg
1. look at bg1&2, this is a crpg.
2. look at skyrim, this is not a crpg.
3. is the game in question closer to bg1&2 or skyrim

the key point to this strategy is to not be autistic, many people miss this important prerequisite

How many real time CRPGs are there then that aren't a TES game.

Turn-based combat, quests, dialog trees... these seem like the core criteria if you're trying to find rules to exclude Fallout 3/NV/4.

I think we're pedantic for the sake of arguing. We all know, intuitively, what a cRPG is. That's why we're talking about games like BG or Pathfinder or Tyranny sometimes instead of Total War, which by the way has an abstraction very similar to dice rolls, rtwp, quests, turn based strategy modes, etc.

What does that say about you when even in fiction incest is too degenerate for the writers?
>>
>>537085474
Total War are strategy games on the scale of nation management.

I mean we intuitively know there are some disqualifying things that can make something not a CRPG, but can we list them out, with as few grandfathered exceptions as possible?

Every FPS is real time, but not all real time combat games are FPSes, so I guess I can see how FPS might be disqualifying but real-time combat isn't. But are there many real time combat CRPGs?
>>
>>537089236
>Every FPS is real time
umm superhot??
>>
>>537089236
Pillars, BG1&2
In any case that's not a meaningful criteria, even though yes there are real time combat CRPGs. BG1&2 essentially set off the genre and Pillars arguably resurrected it.

But asking if CRPGs exist with some criteria isn't useful. If there's no CRPGs that take place on Mars, does this mean games that take place on Mars can't be CRPGs?

Its not a bad game at all but it made me appreciate how big of a part a fun combat system plays in a crpg.

In a TTRPG, playing a self-insert is an embarrassing activity that rightfully gets you branded as That Guy. In CRPGs, however, it is normal and even expected. Simpletons and redditors beg for choices which reflect what they would do personally, rather than what an interesting character embedded in the setting would do. This is the primary failure of CRPG storytelling from which all other failures flow, including companion romances. Sawyer denounced this aptly as 'ego-stoking' but there are other names you can give it. It's time to demand better.

Morrowind is the halfway house which is why it's unpopular with children. It's old-school dice rolls merged with a 3D real-time setting. Rogue Trader almost gets this right but takes the Iconoclast options too far. Hopefully Dark Heresy doesn't include a 'I'm only part of the Inquisition to protect the vulnerable and downtrodden' route.

The whole point is that your are playing a role, not playing yourself. If the kind of role that interests you is out of place in the setting, choose a different setting. I don't expect to play a bard or a druid in 40k and you shouldn't expect to play a 21st-Century paragon of social justice either.

Majority of people don't care about that, and very few people will gravitate towards the "eviscerate innocent child out of the blue" dialogue option in a videogame despite how much an hypothetical setting promotes the virtues of eviscerating children.
There's very few reasons anyone that is truly playing the "KC role" in WotR would ever let Arue live, let alone let her join your party; and yet she's the community's favourite romance option by a very very large margin. It's absurd how much people are willing to trust such a filthy beast despite 200+ hours of gameplay showing that demons are irredeemably evil and are not to be trusted under any circumstance despite what they may say: from Minagho to random cultists to that one succubus that appears as Iomedae.

>People subconsciously wanna play themselves in vidya
Yes, this is my point, and it's the biggest things holding back CRPG writing. The question is: why? Why are people much happier to 'play roles' around the table in front of others than in a computer game?
>>
>>537121825
Yep, Dogmatic means being borderline heretical but having the law on your side.
>>
>>537121909
Tabletop role playing is a much more committed hobby that playing a computer game, so it selects people who take it much more seriously.
Also being in front of others encourages acting and immersing yourself in a role. When you're playing solo, it's much easier to play it like yourself going on an adventure, because you don't have an audience consisting of other players.
>>
>>537121909
You strongly overestimate how many casuals are willing and capable of actually playing a character in TT
Lots of people literally make characters that boil down to "me but I can shoot fireballs"
Also TT carries with it the social expectation that you'll try your hardest to "live the experience with others" and to "fit in with everyone else", so if your best friend is playing a murderhobo, you'll want to murderhobo as well to fit in and share the experience. This obviously doesn't work for vidya because an NPC is just a voice on the screen, and non-mentally unstable human beings generally don't seek the approval of pre-written voicelines

You aren't 'performing,' in a CRPG. You're exploring pre-written possibilities the developers wrote into their game ahead of time. How is this difficult to understand? >It's absurd how much people are willing to trust such a filthy beast
The game doesn't really ask you to trust her. She asks you to let her out of jail, and why wouldn't you? What's she gonna do, attack you in melee when succubi are built to be archers? Later she lies to you to get you to kill a hag for her, but in a way that it doesn't really make any difference if you believe the lie. The hag IS evil, and doesn't make any better case than Arue.
Also, most other demons you talk to are basically incapable of telling a convincing lie. The succubus that tries to "tempt" you in Regill's quest is completely inept at it. Staunton *knows* Minagho is incapable of feeling love, he's just beyond caring. The one in the Gray Garrison pretending to be Iomedae isn't even trying to look convincing, she's completely relying on mind control.
Every successful demonic scheme in the game relies on the aid of mortals. People talk up how devious the demons are, but looking at what they actually do, it's clear that the actual problem is everyone else being retarded.
>>

Evil is usually badly written and unsatisfying. There's rarely any complexity to it (e.g. 'villain with motivations arguably better than the hero's'). Usually it's just "I don't like you. Die!" or "I want power" (even though a good run ends up just as powerful if not moreso).
>>
>>537127629
I think it's because the Evil path usually feels like you're missing out on content. Either that or people feel like being evil is just choosing the

Because she's a demon in a position of vulnerability? If the KC found some random Dretch sleeping somewhere, would he reasonably leave him alone because "what is he gonna do, wake up and punch me with his little retarded arms?"
And this is without mentioning the beast is a succubus, y'know, that whole subspecies which is built around taking advantage of mortals and their moral weaknesses? And pretending to be such an oh-so-vulnerable damsel only to eventually betray the ever-so-pious KC sounds EXACTLY like the kinda shit succubi get off to.
>Every successful demonic scheme in the game relies on the aid of mortals.
Exactly my point! The Fifth Crusade failing because its KC was too merciful and pious would be an extremely fitting scheme: look at those weak mortals, the very values they hold so dear are the ones that eventually led to their final downfall.

Because that table is drama club, an innately social activity. It really can't even remotely be compared to an CRPG, which is more akin to an interactive book or show. In many ways the latter has much more potential as a form of escapism and entertainment, assuming the writing is competent enough and that the actual gameplay loop is fun. This whole argument is really just failed normies (after all, you're here) comparing apples and oranges or trying to status signal. My original post was a reply to anon rightfully complaining about people "not playing the role": I pointed out that anyone playing most KC roles should not trust Arue yet here we are.
>You already know Arue and her backstory
I do, the KC doesn't
>and the connection a KC with mythic powers would have with her (at least on the azata path)
Only I and the few KC that got both apparitions know about that (which I'd wager is less than 10% on a first playthrough considering the second one is quite off the beaten path, behind some obnoxious enemies). And even then, nothing excludes demonic trickery.
>Would it always make sense to let her out?
Logically the KC should let her out maybe 5% of times, if they're very naive or very high on Desna.
I don't want to insult the beast or her fans, I'm just pointing out that people very much do NOT play a role logically and second-guess themselves the second they see a qt girl with a unique portrait

Vast majority of people play all cRPG, aRPG and other similar games incorrectly. They never roleplay, they self-insert instead. They don't settle on a character they want to play like a religious zealot or a ruthless mercenary devoid of conscience. They pick whatever look they want (might be infamous Thiefling even) and then just pick options they think are "correct" and nice, leading to "the best" endings, choosing something they think they would do in any situation.

Even with 40k game, in this general, people keep arguing about a "correct" choice to any quest, which is retarded and completely antithetical to an RPG approach.

Unpopular? I think most agree that colony management in RT is so devoid of strategy or decision-making that it basically plays itself. There is no shortage of anything, and the only factor that holds you back is time while you wait for projects to be completed or to stumble upon a resource deposit to place an extractum on. There isn't even any decision-making about where to deploy your extractums since the game gives you far more than you will ever need.

It's a demon, alive and well in a demon-infested city where only evil demons live because any semblance of goodness was eviscerated and hung from the city walls.

But there's no risks nor costs for killing her right on the spot either, like you killed hundreds of demons beforehand.

It really is not: I can promise you that if it was a random portraitless Schir in that jail, the enormous majority of people (you included) would have no qualms butchering him.
You're obviously biased, and that's ok, but let's not pretend you're making any logical sense from a purely KC perspective

>But there's no risks nor costs for killing her right on the spot either
That's... demonstrably untrue, you lose an ally. Like, you don't know in character that she's going to be a party member, but you DO know that she's been leaking intelligence to Kenabres, if you did the Desna priest quest.
>It really is not: I can promise you that if it was a random portraitless Schir in that jail, the enormous majority of people (you included) would have no qualms butchering him.
By "random" do you mean one with no dialogue that outs the Schir as a Desna worshiper that's already been assisting the Crusade? Because that's kind of a distinctive feature for a demon.
There actually are other enemies you can doom or spare. A wounded succubus in the cave where you first arrive to the Abyss. That healer who asks you to let a cultist go. For me, Hal passed the vibe check and I spared the cultist since he asked, but the succubus didn't. I guess it's true that I'm showing preference for characters that seem plot-relevant, but I also generally talk to enemies whenever possible and give them a chance to plead their case. Arueshalae has a better case than most.

Depends on what it is. Artificial intelligence is a shot in the back of the head without a doubt. But given you can cavort with xenos when everyone else is supposed to shoot them on sight, you can probably get away with anything else. The limiting factor is that if you piss off the tech-priests to the extent that they refuse to tend to your ship then you are probably doomed.

It's not about people not wanting to be evil. It's about it being badly written in most games. In RT, BG3 as recent big crpg examples, the evil path is objectively shittier, outside of some edgy/wacky gruesome ways to kill people. It's the argument any sane KC would make, in the spur of the moment. You can rely empty sophisms all you want, but it doesn't change the substance.
>you lose an ally
My dear anon, YOU know it's an ally and YOU know she's relevant because she has a portrait and a ton of dialogue options. Nobody in their right mind would consider the evil demon in the evil demon city to be "a potential ally". Should we spare Minagho too in case she pinky swears she'll behave this time? She'd make for a GREAT ally, I think!
As I've already said, the Desna quest applies to a relative minority of KCs (even smaller if you consider the two extra encounters) and you don't have to be as retarded as Hulrun to suspect muh demonic intervention: we're shown tons of examples of demons betraying each other and foiling each others' plans, but that doesn't make them good, does it?

>YOU know it's an ally and YOU know she's relevant because she has a portrait and a ton of dialogue options.
No, I know it's an ally because she's been sending visions to the priests of Desna in Kenabres, warning them of the imminent attack.

This may come as a shock but people like to play what they feel is most fun. Being a dick to everyone isn't really fun for most people.

How interesting or fun it is to play a character that follows a philosophy of say a Hellknight over a Paladin and how well they can get into the mind of that sort of character in a knowledgable and believable way has more to do with the writer than the player. People here think they're above self inserting when most of their dialogue choices are barebones flavor text at best

You can't just ignore the rest of my post like that, anon-kun, it makes you look really bad.
You are repeatedly shown, from the second you reach the Defender's Heart, that treachery and trust are dangerous and that thousands of lives have been lost because of them, and you're telling me you'd instinctually trust any word coming out of the mouth of this one being (whose race is widely known to be especially treacherous and deceitful)?
Imagine this exact scenario in a TTRPG campaign, with the sudden encounter of a succubus in a random cell begging for mercy because "She's different, TRUST her"; you'd probably laugh your DM out of the room.
So we've clearly and logically established that non-Desnan KCs would never free Arue, outside of retardation or actions led by one's peepee.
>But what about the ones that did that questline and heard of these dudes getting these supposed visions?
It's addressed and explained multiple times that demons fuck over each other for no good reason, why would a random succubus warning the hippies of the imminent attack change anything? In-universe, Hulrun even clearly tells you that those visions could easily be demonic in nature, are you sure the Desnans passed a will check for mind-control spells? You only get two visions of your own, and there's no indication they may come from Desna at all
With this, we've established that a Desnan KC could reasonably choose to trust her, but it's far from an immediate choice
Back to my original point from 6 hours ago: people playing a KC character would rarely if ever trust the evil demon trapped in the evil demon city, and people (like (you) or me) only choose to do it for other, non RP-related reasons.
Hope you've stayed with me the whole way thru, anon

The only tech heresy that really matters is AI. The rest of the whole AdMech lore is really just a subtle joke about how the Imperium is so decrepit and fossilised that no one understands how any of this ancient technology works anymore, and just like Janet at the office they interpret the behaviour they don't understand as a literal moody ghost in the machine and just pray that it keeps working. Don't think too much about it.

Most of 40k lore is like this. The reason nu-40k is so unbearable is that GW forgot this and started trying to take it all too seriously in order to appeal to children raised on the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

>Escaping from jail for crimes she committed against demonkind
That's not a trick, that's literally what she says she's trying to do.
>Sucking your dick
She's not asking to suck your dick.
>Gaining the trust of the one dude that has been able to do accomplish anything for the first time in centuries
This is the interesting one, because that would be a good trick, but also one that demons seem to be mentally incapable of pursuing.
You can imagine a sequence where Arue asks you to do a small favour for her (open this door), and leans on this familiarity to ask for a larger favour (kill this hag) and finally worms her way into your party, feigning repentance all the while. That would be really shrewd. But nowhere else in the game does any demon display that kind of capacity for forethought and understanding of human psychology.
Like, look at the other succubus, from Regill's quest. That one says she's going to "surrender" and give you "valuable intelligence", but instead of actually surrendering she's asking you to take her somewhere private so she can succ your dick. It's completely transparent. It's like she heard about Arue switching sides, but genuinely doesn't understand WHY it worked for her.
The side of the Abyss does have complex plots, but they're always driven by mortal cultists. Nurah can act nice and plan to betray you later, but there's no demon who ever does that. Wenduag, with her 5 CHA, tells a more convincing lie than Regill's succubus. The demons don't seem to understand even the most basic forms of emotional manipulation, like showing someone kindness to get them to do something for you. I think at least some of it is deliberate, on part of the writers. That kind of thinking is just beyond them.

Anyway, it's not really a reason to not let Arue out of her cell. A reason not to trust her going forward, sure, but even if she was capable of that kind of subterfuge, you don't need to keep her in the jail to counter it.
>>
>>537148698
>Back to my original point from 6 hours ago: people playing a KC character would rarely if ever trust the evil demon trapped in the evil demon city
Not that anon but one point that hasn't been brought up is that its very unclear or left open what the KC even remembers. You're making it out like there's only either a total Desnan hippie KC or a cold, rational, perfect military commander KC and nothing in between. I could imagine a lot of potential KC's that would at least keep an open mind about it, after all they're not actually experienced crusaders and wouldn't necessarily have their biases.
>>
>see demon

I obviously build my argument based on the assumption that the KC is a blank slate that reacts and thinks based on what he's seen since the game started (non-stop demonic ass rape)
The overwhelming presence of non-stop demonic ass rape would lead me to believe that by Drezen the KC would have developed at least SOME biases against demons (especially considering the Chapel is presented as an extremely traumatic experience that hurts even an experience crusader like Irabeth)

>>537150249
>She's trying to get out of jail because of crimes she committed against demonkind
So was Alderpash.
And again, my response was to "Why would she ever just ask you to let her out of her cell, what could she have to gain?"; I'm not saying my provided examples are her actual reasoning, just possible ones.
Cannon-fodder demons are retarded, but that doesn't mean their entire army is; Cumticula and her clique are clearly shown to be extremely capable in the ways of manipulation, and I'm sure they're smart enough to figure out how kindness works.
If Arue was a member of Cumticula's SEAL Team Six equivalent, KCs all over the world would be fucking screwed
>>
>>537157691
>The overwhelming presence of non-stop demonic ass rape would lead me to believe that by Drezen the KC would have developed at least SOME biases against demons
Sure, some, but logically nothing that would completely rule out trusting this particular succubus.
>that hurts even an experience crusader like Irabeth
Lets be real though, the more we delve into lore and writing to support either of our arguments the more its gonna fall apart since the writing is all over the place. Irabeth is the most dogshit useless Paladin and military commander ever depicted in a game, and that's saying something with Seelah in the cast. Never mind Anevia, a spymaster obviously dreamed up by someone who has no clue what a spymaster is.

>>537148698
>You are repeatedly shown, from the second you reach the Defender's Heart, that treachery and trust are dangerous and that thousands of lives have been lost because of them
Not really? Kind of the opposite, really. Hulrun is shown to be a paranoid wretch who tried to burn Ember at a stake and is now undermining the defence of Kenabres by hunting innocent people, because he can't admit he was wrong. The only treachery I remember from early on is Wenduag's, and she's not particularly subtle. You might have suspicions about Camellia, but she never properly betrays you.
>and you're telling me you'd instinctually trust any word coming out of the mouth of this one being (whose race is widely known to be especially treacherous and deceitful)?
No. Fuck's sake, why do I even bother? No anon, I'm not telling you that I'd instinctively trust a succubus. I'm telling you that her story checks out. Her testimony is consistent with the evidence. If you were thorough and didn't skip the Desna quest in Kenabres, you can figure out that Arueshalae is telling the truth. How is this so fucking hard for you? Why do you keep coming back to this with the shallowest possible takes? Like, there's another woman pretending to be a prisoner in Drezen, and that one is actually evil. Is there something to compare or contrast here? I guess not.

There's crusaders turning over to the other side right in front of your eyes, there's the Red Morning Massacre, there's Nurah and also that whole Staunton business you may have heard of.
(you) are telling me that her story checks out, but the majority of KCs (that didn't do the entire Desna thingy) would have no way of knowing this (and yet they spare her); and even if the succubus IS telling the truth, there's a thousand reasons not to trust her, as I've already explained plenty of times above.
You seem to be missing the logical step where a demonic creature known for lying and manipulation being truthful ONCE doesn't mean she stops being a demonic creature known for lying and manipulation!
My point has to be reiterated: people don't actually "play" their KC because if they did, they would have plenty of reasons to nip this rose in the bud (with a large hammer to the head).
I don't doubt that (you) and (your) KC are the most Desnan beings to exist on this green Earth, but there's reason to believe that a sizeable amount of people trust the beast despite not even knowing what a Desna is, just because her portrait is hot.

She didn't get punished for invading people's dreams, invading that priestesses' dream just put her in range of Desna's punishment. It's like the whole "no direct intervention in the material plane" thing for gods, by invading the dream Arueshalae got right inside of Desna's domain, and at that point the rule doesn't factor in anymore and Desna can just do whatever she wants to her.

The whole X-Men narrative has always been kind of a failure in serving as an allegory because it tries to present these comparisons to jews, gays, blacks or whatever, except none of those groups had fucking uncontrollable superpowers that could kills hundreds because of a big sneeze. Made even dumber by how the most radical of the mutants end up flipping the script and declaring themselves the trve evolved humans and the real master race.

You end up with ridiculously stupid scenes like Storm, who gets to control electricity and be a borderline goddess, saying they have nothing to be ashamed of and their powers are a gift that the humies are just jealous of... to fucking Rogue. Who kills anything she touches, against her will, and has had her life ruined by her power.

The alternative would make him the most reviled villain possible: a white man with extremist views. Which of course aren't really extremist but common sense, in a world where mutants exist glowies would be all over their asses and so it would be in their own interest to organize and strike first.

Yrliet's racism is completely understandable. Imagine if a disgusting chimpanzee started speaking the human language (this is the premise of Planet of the Apes, a really stupid movie) and started entertaining the idea you two were equal and perhaps even compatible partners. Would you not feel sick?

Disco Elysium is the only game where you're rewarded for playing your character regardless of whether doing so result in success or failure.

Failing a chain of rolls in that game doesn't result in a worse experience. In fact the shenanigans that ensue as a result can often lead to more mechanically rewarding and entertaining outcomes.

Prime example. If you try to run away to skip out on paying your bills then you can trip and crash into a lady in a wheelchair. Not only is this hilarious but the hotel manager actually feels so bad for you he reduces your debt. If instead you succeed in running away then you miss out on all that dialogue and you still owe all the money.

It's barely a video game. It's basically like playing a choose your own adventure book where the author desperately wants you to get to the end.
>>
>>537181759
>where you're rewarded for playing your character regardless of whether doing so result in success or failure.
Ehhh even in your example there's a clear win/loss scenario there. Pretty sure this affects a check later on too. Though if you're referring different scenarios as the reward then yeah sure, I guess it counts.

Yes and in that respect it's closest to the TTRPG experience, where the job of the DM is to make sure the players have fun regardless of how the dice roll. The dice are there to provide uncertainty and excitement, and not to serve as a barrier to entry for dialogue or events the DM had in mind. This is one of the fundamental flaws with CRPGs - they want the dice roll mechanics without the DM to adapt the experience on the fly.

The solution is either to put a massive amount of writing work in to recapture the tabletop experience as in Disco Elysium, or to build your game entirely around risk management as in XCOM.
