The story seems quite grim for a comic about Mr. Sonic. Mr. Mimic ends his own life to escape, and Ms. Whisper cries tears of joy over his death. This is the kind of overwrought drama that takes the focus away from fun and adventure. It is what one would expect from a writer who is a fan of Archie's later, convoluted storylines rather than a fan of Mr. Sonic himself.Meanwhile, Mr. Sonic and Team Chaotix are on a side-quest to find a recycle plant. It is very generous of Mr. Flynn to give the star of the series such a compelling subplot while the important story happens elsewhere.I see the price of the comic has increased since the last issue. It is good to know we are paying more for such quality storytelling.

I keep seeing people complain about Shadow "getting all the attention". What do these people want, seriously? Like most of this complaining is because their third raid character is not in the spotlight. The truth is, if you're not Sonic or Shadow, you're not gonna be getting much attention outside of spinoffs and small projects. Tails and Knuckles are always around because Team Sonic, and Amy because she's the main girl character. When you have Shadow he usually pulls Rouge and Omega into relevancy by association. At the end of the day this series is about SONIC, and pretty much every other character only matters in how they relate to him. Shadow is pretty much the only one who can also stand on his own because he's basically another Sonic, and when they are together (and written correctly), it's a special dynamic compared to the others. What else do you want? These side characters like Silver, Blaze, Cream, Espio, etc. being the "focus", that's laughable. Even Tails and Knuckles being the focus is already a stretch. People need to accept that their favorite character is a side character.

A mysterious figure watching everyone on monitors, collecting the Chaos Emeralds for a grand, secret plan. This is the hallmark of a writer who believes a convoluted plot is a substitute for a compelling one. It is a tired fanfiction trope, a desperate attempt to create a dark and serious epic that strays further from the simple, adventurous spirit of Mr. Sonic. This is the rot that Mr. Maekawa introduced, and Mr. Flynn has eagerly continued it.It is another predictable entry in a series that fundamentally misunderstands the character it is named after. Look, Sonic 2 added a new companion to Sonic that goes through the first character arc in the series, as well as formally introducing his plane he uses to go from island to island. It also adds an extra chaos emerald, super forms and the first lore surrounding ancient civilizations which were present in Sonic 1. This ancient civilization is revealed to be the Echidnas in Sonic 3&K, which add it's last member, Knuckles, which is a counter to Sonic, as well as the Master Emerald. And Sonic Adventure explains what exactly happened with the Echidnas, new character arcs and a robot that goes against Eggman. Now tell me, what does SA2 add. What does SA2 expand upon? Tails and Amy's arcs from SA1. Not bad additions, but most stuff in SA2 is not needed and does not fit with the style of the previous games. I understand the context in which SA2 was created, and I understand it's like a "final story" for Sonic, so I actually give it a pass, but it really doesn't fit Shadow looking like Sonic is literally never explained, the only logical conclusion is that Shadow was based off of those Sonic statues or the mural from S3&K, but Iizuka said that the reason Shadow is a hedgehog is a mystery. The author will compare Shadow to Sonic, claiming he’s kinder and more supportive, when in reality he’s quite the opposite. Then you’ll find Shadow using Amy as a stand-in for Maria, drawing superficial comparisons between her traits and Maria’s, only to backtrack when pressed and say Maria's just a platonic sister. Shadamyfags truly believe that using another person as a replacement, as a stand-in for a love they can never attain, is somehow a healthy and wholesome dynamic. That’s why all of them are lost incel losers who have never known what genuine love feels like themselves. They fetishize the "hurt and comfort" tag, yet that supposed comfort is nothing more than a fragile bandaid, desperately trying to cover the gaping, bleeding bullet wound where their heart was shattered into pieces.
