And honestly if you look at SegaSonic the Hedgehog (1993) you'll see that Mighty is the tough guy, Ray is the cute guy, and Sonic is an in-between. This combined with some Harmony artwork from the 90s and Sonic 1 concept art, I'm pretty sure that Sonic was created to be cool AND cute. Tails is just an even cuter counterpart to Sonic and there's nothing wrong with that because Tails is younger than Sonic. This idea that Sonic shouldn't be allowed to be cute and that he's edgy is a misrepresentation. It's just that when I say Sonic is cartoony there's always someone that think I'm saying Sonic should crack jokes every 3 seconds which is not what I mean. None of this means Sonic can't be serious or cool or whatever

Why can't Sega give proper support to their older Sonic games? Sonic Origins Plus still has bugs to fix and Sonic Superstars doesn't save config settings on PC properly (among other things).

In SA2 every stage had a proper context and informed the gimmick of the stage, whether it be getting the Colony back online in Lost Colony(thus explaining why the whole stage is dark) or racing through a forest because the island the forest is in is rigged to explode (explaining the time limit)SA2 does so many simple things right and yet no other game really captures its magic. Silver isn't a mascot character he's a shitty OC, a *third* protagonist designed to stand on his own. Shadow is a shitty OC and a second protagonist but at least he was salvagable as a "dark rival" trope. Silver slots into this "light rival" but they did a dogshit job at connecting him to Sonic in any meaningful way. Like there's this "blue (naive) hedgehog" plot thread in 06 that goes nowhere and the implication that Silver and Sonic have the same soul, but any similarities to Sonic doesn't fucking matter narratively or conceptually to his story or themes in 06 because they're just copying SA2 and Shadow. I have my problems with SA2 story but at least it attempts to connect Shadow to Sonic before dumping his edgy backstory on you for the third act. At least Shadow's lore involves the Robotniks. Silver has no connection to anything; they tried to retroactively give him a Robotnik but Nega's stupid motivation to redeem the Robotnik family name has fuckall to do with Silver's themes and retroactively attaching Sage to him has the same problem.
