The thing with making a heavily-inspired game is that your game just feels inferior in every way and you don't feel like you're accomplishing anything.

My new game is going to use similar visual assets, but it's going to be a business simulator.

Most of the work since last DD went into making it play and look better.
The biggest change is that I ditched the clunky inventory system for a standard "walk over ammo to get ammo" with a max ammo limit instead of a weight limit. Weapon switching speed is faster and enemies don't snap towards the player anymore.
I also added some story elements, an hub area, 3 boat upgrades including a gun mount, new enemies and new guns.
Level 1 and 2 play mostly the same, level 3 has been completely redone.

If you use Godot it's really easy to export for Mac and you can do it on Windows/Linux. Can't speak for other engines though. It does an "ad-hoc" code sign which means your Mac will ask you if you're sure you want to run it, but it will still run.

Dirk is back
There's very little in terms of new levels and "content", but there's plenty of QoL improvements, new music tracks, new animations and new interactions with already existing systems that when I gathered everything together I thought that's still a colossal change overall.
I believe I adressed most (if not all) possible comments about improvements and I'd like to see how it fares with previous versions. If you played Dirk at DD55 I think it's a whole different beast now.

I will play each demo for 15 minutes and drop some thoughts. First off...

Start Menu is rudimentary and the font is blurry, I like the inclusion of all the omake (though they should be hidden and be unlocks for beating the game later on).
The level select is confusing and you don't know what to click or where to go, I pressed Arcade thinking it was to select the game mode but it put me in a match right away.
I'm so disappointed the main gun isn't a machine gun, I wanted to go *brrrrt* but alas.
Enemies can sneak up behind you because they don't make noise.
Health bar should be more visible.
Overall, I think it has charm, it's clearly still early in development but with more juice and fixing the rough parts I could see myself enjoying it.

My idea is utilizing the Tamagotchi aspect as both gameplay (feed, take care of pet, and their evolutions give you new abilities and affect how your gun works; also if they starve to death because you neglect them you also die) and for story (why you even have a pet inside your gun, why the world you're exploring underground is so desolate, why the monsters exist... etc. All will be explained in some aspect that relates back to the Tamagotchi gun).

I may be a brainlet but it's not immediately apparent which cards you should buy in the shop, which ones are better.

Got stuck for a bit in the tutorial because I didn't understand that I had to attack at the same time as the NPC to parry... the delay on the sword attack is annoying.

I like that you can sit in so many places.
E attacks of all varieties seem to be a bit overpowered and they have no delay compared to the normal attack, I just spammed E and wonnered.
Holy Knight Louise is really challenging, didn't beat her within the review time limit but I'll def go back to try again.
Overall, soft spot for these types of doujin-like games even though I'm terrible at rhythm games, didn't run into any bugs, decently deep and challenging at first impressions with more polishing and content it could be a nice geimu.

Most of the fanart was based on an older revision of Fygoon's model, back in a time when he didn't have the tunic bottoms because the model I made and animated was so ass. It took nearly an entire day to completely remake the model and animations so that they can work a bit better in the long run. In my own art, Fygoon always had the tunic bottom, as it would be a little strange if he was just nude below (he still is, as everyone on the Zmeian Archipelago have no concept of underwear).

First impression is that walk speed is a too high to navigate homes and corridors properly, even in the map it feels too fast for platforman, what's the point in going so fast if I have to hold walk constantly?
I fell into the water while a goon was shooting me, had trouble getting back up because I was going too fast as soon as I touched ground so I just kept taking damage while falling back into the water.
Glass damage? Cool.
Art style is pleasing, I like the guns though a bit too loud even when lowering SFX.
I don't have time to pause and read while shootan, It'd be nice if there was a voice over for the narration.
It'd be nice if there was headshot damage, running out of ammo takes you out of the fun of going fast and shootan.
Overall, enjoyable game though as a long time FPS player I have a lot of things to say about it. I think the gameplay needs more polish to get the player to really enter the flow. The presentation and the rest is there.

Really polished and pleasing menus.
Lots of nice and varied BGM.
I think if you're going to have multiple languages it should give you that option straight away to select one before the game starts instead of having to go into the options menu.
Going into it blind which mode should a first time player pick? Game should give us some clues to ease us in.
While it's a nice and relaxing game, I also think there should be a crazier, faster mode with lots of juice.
It's not apparent why we pick a player character since nothing seems to change overall.
I couldn't really find much fun in it, didn't leave me wanting more, other types of players might enjoy it though (n=1).
Overall, while it seems close to be ready for release I think there are still some pain points that can be improved, especially in making it "funner".

Decent logo, menus work but nothing special really.
Music doesn't really stand out.
In the tutorial the gameplay tips should stand out more, a bit more oomph.
When you switch to melee from holding the gun for a brief second you have three hands (not necessarily a bad thing, can be a funny quirk).
There is a slowdown when firing the pistol for the first time.
In the tutorial the panels to shoot with the pistol/machine gun seem to be inverted.
Picking up ammo probably shouldn't make a pop-type sound, but a scratch or clink-type sound.
I like Shanghai mafia aesthetics but the levels could probably use a bit more life.
Lacks voice overs and swearing to make it come to life and nicer music.
No secrets implemented yet?
Enemy damage seems hard to avoid.
Overall, I think the game is decent but is really LOW ENERGY, maybe let us throw some dinamite with the middle mouse button.

Maybe I'll try adding a slowdown effect for the parry tutorial since I implemented it when I made this meme webm, but not restricting the player to be in a specific distance or state means it could making things more confusing. I also don't want players to be reacting to anything other than the animations, since I don't want it to devolve into Simon Says.
Probably needs to add mouth animations and/or voice acting (which I don't plan to do anytime soon)
All the abilities are kinda op in their own way, so the direction is that bosses later on can push you even harder since you technically would have the tools to deal with it.

like i said on the other game, mixel text is better. The itch.io pages with the pixel font are cancer ass, you can't read it! like, I can boot up borland turbo C++ in DosBox and read text perfectly fine, but peeps itch io pages be unreadable and shit. its far worse than what it's aping to mimic. when people only had bitmap fonts they didnt make them eye cancer to show on purpose that they were being le retro, they made them as smooth clear sharp and legible as possible within the constraints of an 8x8 pixel matrix or so

your font is kind of shit because it looks to be a 4x6 or some BS like that. so even though you are already using small pixels for them, it is still not enough resolution.

bump the font to an 8x8, and also consider making the words much more terse while making the UI elements with text in them take up more screen space (if not horizontally, then vertically with making use of word wrap) then you probably wouldn't even have to use mixels. but mixels for font as perfectly fine.

Your example is the worst of both worlds. Having text be pixel perfect is really difficult for a lot of "real game" and pragmatic reasons. It sucks, but there's a lot of good reason so many games do it. If you're going to do mixel text, just have the text be normal readable text.
Having another pixelated font, that's not even rendering properly in that image, looks even worse than pic related, which I don't like either, but at least it's not pretending to be something it's not. It stinks of somebody who doesn't know anything about what pixels or games are.
