It really begs the question why we had to wait until 2023 for a crpg where you can just take off a female companions underwear and stare at her exposed nipples. So there was no reason why this functionality couldn't have been implemented back when graphics were still really primitive, like the PS2 era, to great critical acclaim. I would enjoy a low power and lower stakes (relatively) game about being a low ranking acolyte or something, and you just do a good job, and there's some mysterious cultists you have to stop. It's not all combat and has an emphasis on clues and figuring out the conspiracy.Basically what Dark Heresy often is and is supposed to be, but I know Owlcat is going to have you speed up the ranks and take over the investigation and then save the entire planet. So maybe it's decently balanced after-all, I have invested in stealthy things and am mostly putting stealthier mercs into those positions, leaving others back further for general support or in overwatch.

The one place in Owlcat games where I don't mind lots of text (well, 9 times out of 10 at least) is the narrative 'book' events. Despite it being isometric, it's not just for show, you can (and in several cases need) to actually use the terrain tactically, like using your frontline fighters to block an opening. Plus you can actually escape by moving the characters to the edge of the combat map. Backstabbing works by moving your thief on the opposite side of another party member fighting a monster, and a fighter/thief with high strength can get ridiculous damage off them. Some spells function differently depending on whether the fight is indoors or outdoors (fireball has a 1-square lower radius, for example). Also the Centre command is your friend when using AoE spells: pop the targeting box on enemy, Centre, and now you know the top and bottom corners are not going to be inside the fireball's radius.Word of warning: Pool of Radiance, being the best, is a somewhat rough (but still good) experience. You have to memorise Cure Light Wounds and cast them individually, then memorise them again and rest, to keep healing - Curse of the Azure Bonds and the later games introduce the Fix command which has all your healers memorise and cast their heals until the party is back up to snuff. You also need to balance between carrying copper, silver etc. pieces, your movement rate (too much shit on you and you're slower) and the fact that you need gold for training and leveling. Azure Bonds also introduces the paladin and ranger which are absent in Pool.

Fun to see this location again but now with much more difficult enemies. Impossible to get close to these fuckers, and the only one who's moving around is the bridge guy, so I'm splitting into two groups, and when bridge guy backs off, we'll approach and ideally (unlikely) get Igor close to bridge-guy while Kalyna hopefully one-shots out the tower-guy. Pretty unlikely the lower group will be able to flank, and them having height advantage will really suck, but I don't see another way. There's that vantage spot further back but it's too far away to reliably hit anyone and if they're useless that makes the mercs in play down to 5.Tricky situation. Actually, I do have mortars now... Maybe Barry takes position on that far vantage point behind them. They aren't very reliable though from the few times I've used them.
