I repaired my old junker Switch and found out it was actually unpatched this whole time so I am going to hack it.
What is the emulation situation like on the Switch?
I have seen some conflicting information on how it handles N64, PS1, PSP, Dreamcast, Playstation, Gamecube and PS2 games and what requires running in Linux or Android mode. I don't have much hope for the last two but I still figured I would include them in the question anyway.
>>
>>538754032
PS1 and below is no problem. Dreamcast and PSP generally runs well. Emulators are slightly buggier than their PC versions. Never tried Android but I don't have much hope for it.

Hey senpaitachi. Early this year was clearing out my NAS and deleted my Xbox tsop stuff.

Turns out Xbox scene was dmca'd to remove it all. Does anyone here have or know where to get the following two downloads again

ENDGAME 8MB Cerbios Flasher & UX Dash Installer.

OGXbox XblastOSC/USB TSOP Flasher.

I looked around but even the mega and filchier were wiped out. Those two methods were the easiest by far to tsop flash and swap a drive on OG Xbox consoles. >From how the S2 has gone so far, I'd say that they're getting to the cocky phase again.
I was hopeful that they were just doing the dumb thing and having a piss poor launch lineup again, but then I saw them announcing the fucking Virtual Boy for Switch Online. Needing to pay for a subscription service AND $100 for a single-purpose gimmick accessory to play a bunch of 30-year-old games is insane. I hope their beancounters are right and the number of people interested in this novelty justifies the production setup, but I doubt the entirity of the Virtual Boy's library justifies the price of cardboard version, let alone the plastic one.

I wonder what old men at Nintendo are still trying to avenge their pride over that thing. The 3DS turned out all right in the end, and I guess it's finally time to load the Virtual Boy library onto mine.
>>
>>538887090
it's clearly just a collector item they turned "usable", not really that different from amiibos
>>
>>538892897
NTA (I'm actually the one he's replying to kek) but it has a bit more use than the amiibos, since it's the thing that makes the 3D effect. Sure, you can play without the accessory and get the games in 2D but that's not really the main draw with the Virtual Boy.
that said, I'm sure there'll be some easy way to "homebrew" the 3D effect glasses for a cheaper price than whetever Nintendo's gonna ask for the cardboard version

>>
>>538892897
I'll be honest, I didn't think of it like that when I watched the Direct. Still, not accounting for inflation the original released for $180 and then cut to $150. This thing retails for a whole $100 and there's no way there isn't a ludicrous profit margin for a plastic shell + lenses. $25 for the cardboard version doesn't feel as egregious, but tying the games to both an upfront fee and a subscription still feels scummy.

That said, the target buyer probably has the subscription already. I guess as a 30th anniversary thing it's a neat collectible.
>>
>>538719654
Think it's worth picking up a switch for homebrew purposes?

I already have a dock, the left joycon and a few controllers from where I volunteer (a thrift store lol). Which I picked up for a few dollars.

Is it worth picking up a tablet only? And is an OLED worth the price if I'm.most likely going to be playing it as a handheld or is the regular switch fine.
>>
>>538922617
OLED requires a modchip. If you can get a v1 unpatched console go for that instead. If you don't care about that then go for the OLED
>>
>>538924772
Oh I didn't realise

Will homebrew stuff work if a console ends up being patched?

And how can I tell (in listings) if a consple is patched for not
>>
>>538924772
Also found one that is listed as "no online, offline only"

Does that mean it's been tampered with and potentially broken or could it be a banned account/console issu
>>
>>538929458
if it's patched, you will need a modchip as with an OLED (or a lite). You can ask a seller for the serial number and check it on https://ismyswitchpatched.com/
>>538930378
That means it's most likely banned, meaning it definitely has CFW and is unpatched. Nintendo bans consoles when it detects CFW, piracy, cheats, etc, but it doesn't ban accounts, so sometimes people may get rid of their banned consoles to get a new one. I don't think it will be broken
>>
>>538935697

Think I should go for this version if I plan on homebrewing? Would it most likely have half the shit done already for me. This also seems to be the cheapest one I've found.

Is there any way at all to reverse it if I ever wanted to go legit? Tbh I most likely will be using the switch offline or for singleplayer/older games
>>
>>538938010
It's not a bad option, especially if it's the cheapest. Maybe ask the vendor why it's only offline and he can probably confirm if it's banned due to CFW.
>Is there any way at all to reverse it if I ever wanted to go legit?
All the stuff is stored in the SD card. No SD card = no homebrew. Nothing is permanently installed. Except for the ban, of course, as it's banned from ninty's side. Even with no SD card you would not be able to go online legitimately.
>Would it most likely have half the shit done already for me.
You would have to update everything if you get it anyways, which is like basically following the guide for first time setup, which you should do either way for a clean setup. So it really doesn't matter if it has stuff or not already

>that shitshow of a Direct
Honestly the only appealing part of it is how many of those games I can download and hoard but eventually Switch 1 stuff is going to dry out and Switch 2 everything is fuck expensive. I'm even having second doubts about buying Kirby for 70 dollars. Guess Switch 2 is going in the drawer hoping for that exploit, even if it takes PS Vita amounts of time and my V1 will have to work overtime while I go through that hoarded backlog
>>
>>538947247
my only issue with the direct was giving that much time to "yeah this already announced game? it's coming to switch too, here's a 2 minute trailer for no reason" while at the same time for some fucking reason not having the actual announcement of the mega man star force collection (which was on the japanese direct, we instead had to make time for the dingus "game")

The 3DS wifi is shitty and slow. FTPD is better if you want to transfer small stuff like gba/nds roms, or smaller 3DS games. FOr multi-GB stuff, yeah, you're better off plugging the SD into the PC. Are there any real benefits to partitioning space for Linux and Android on a hacked Switch?
Seems like Steam and any emulators specifically for them run pretty poorly and I am not sure what else I could do with them.
>>538970452
Just tell them you need a specific model. If you outright mention hacking they might act like you are asking them to be accessory to murder or something. People have gotten fucking weird about that sort of thing recently.

Sure. There were always a couple of dudes with modded consoles around in my little hillbilly town. One of my mom's boyfriends chipped my Xbox for me when I was like 11.

Need help, I made this post in /vitagen/ but I think this place might have more knowledgeable people.
I've got a question, not sure if this is the thread but ill ask regardless.
I've got a hacked vita from 7 years ago and its on 3.60 with henkaku installed and the last guy told me i have to use maidump to use it.
I feel very limited here and Id rather use the newst cfw because half of the things barely work properly , what do i do , factory reset and go do the site guide ?
>>
>>539352224
No just install 0syscall6 and nonpdrm assuming you don't already have it. Theres no reason to update the firmware

I managed to get your nonpdrm from Autoplugin but couldnt find the other one , then tried homebrew browser and it wasnt working.

Legends ZA is also gonna release on Switch 1, they can just datamine that one. MAYBE Pokopia could trigger some of the bigger tismos into doing it, but I sort of doubt it. Sorry, forgot to link the plugin.
Download it here to your PC. Not the HFW one. Open vitashell. Press select. Your vita will begin USB transfer mode (assuming it hasn't been changed to FTP mode in settings). Now copy the skprx.

For real though it could go very bad if you don't know shit. Learn to solder on something unimportant before fucking up your switch. Modern boards are tightly packed with tiny stuff, and without the right skill-set and tools you will not make it. Practice with kits or with old, dead electronics.

How did you did it? What method did you employ?

I'm going clean out mine and test the temps after. Depending on the result, I'll repaste the cells. I'm pretty sure there's a way to tell which one in particular needs to be repasted. Regardless, it's a fat model, so I'm pretty sure it's necessary to do so at this point. If I fuck it up, I'll just buy a slim model.

I jailbroke a PS4, but I'm kinda bored with it; there aren't many games that I'm interested in playing on it. I'm playing through games I had on a wishlist, but I'm surprised to find out how ass most of them are.
>>

>>
>>539514472
Not him, but I also have a fat and delidded it myself last year.
You need to hit that thing with a heat gun, and you need a really thin metal spatula, and you need to be very careful about not jamming it in too hard (ESPECIALLY WITH THE RSX). There are some small components and you have to be deliberate with your movements to make sure you don't tear anything off. You're not going to pry, but slowly introduce the spatula to break up any adhesive while the IHS is still hot from the heat gun. With the RSX, you only want to get the corners because that's where it's adhered to the IHS. You can then scrape off the old compound and put new thermal paste on the die and the 4 chips on the corners. The Cell has a ring of adhesive around it instead. It's honestly not as important to hit as the RSX.
And even then, delidding and replacing the paste on these things are not going to be as important for longevity as upping those fan curves are. Keep it dust free, and don't let that thing get above 70 C if you can.

>>
>>539677161
PS4 Pro I mean
>>
>>539677161
Fan settings can't do anything to actual heat output, ps4pro is like 200 Watt typical power when playing iirc, that's not exactly a space heater but it's also not nothing, and all of it will get dumped out as heat.
If it's very loud/case gets very hot, cleaning out the radiator and repasting will help, but you won't appreciably change the amount of actual power being used. Technically, there's some win from running cooler because it'll work more efficiently when cool due to lower power leakage

I have a launch model PS3. Should I sell it and replace it with a CFW-compatible slim?

It's never been serviced and the last time I used it the fans were blowing like a jet engine--though I didn't check the actual temps--so it most definitely requires delidding.

Not confident in my ability to delid it without fucking up the traces, so I figure I might as well sell it (I've seen them go for around $300), and buy an inexpensive slim and delid that. If I fuck it up, there's really no loss and I can buy another one.

Other than hardware backwards compatibility and the media slot--made obsolete with FTP unless you want to directly upload something from an SD card--is there anything else the launch model has over the slim? I know the latter performs better with regards to temperature and power consumption. I'm aware that only certain slim models are CFW-compatible.
>>
>>539763830
They only thing I can think of is that sexy spider-man movie font. Sell it before it kicks the bucket (don't even try to open it) and get a way more reliable slim model. Even if your slim can't coldboot CFW, with HEN it's not that big of a deal as you only need to boot it manually from the XMB
>>
>>539764664
I already jailbroke the launch model. Will that be a concern for buyers? I remember making the necessary dumps, but I don't exactly remember where I stored everything--I was blindly following instructions desu.
>>
>>539766871
As long as it works, I don't think so. 99% of people interested in these models only want them for "true" PS2 backwards compatibility

I've done it all the time, especially for pokemon games. Just put it on stock sysnand and did the transfer, never gotten banned.
You just have to be careful with your hacked switch to make sure it doesn't get banned. I've only ever done save dumping/injecting on sysnand (all in airplane mode), and I haven't been banned, despite having my switch hacked ever since it was first possible to do.
Whenever I want to do anything other than save backups, I always do it on emunand.

Should be, yes. Higher voltage support doesn't generally cause problems. You want the same capacity (higher might work but better to use the same for something like a CPU) and perhaps you may need to pay attention to ESR, which should usually be the same or lower than the original part.

How much of a bitch is it to reflow a Switch EMMC? I am 90% sure mine needs it. Crashed and eventually turned back on after cooling. Warmed up, crashed again, dead this time. Booting into a payload menu tells me the EMMC is not communicating. I play docked and the damn thing gets hot.
>>
>>539925023
are you sure it's not gpu related ? also it's way easier to just change the emmc module
>>
>>539925803
The screen turns on and I can see a menu if I am acting like I want to select a payload. Trying to run the system stock or boot into sysnand gets me a black screen entirely. I am pretty damn sure it's emmc, but I'm also not an expert. Also wouldn't correlated with the GPU as to when it crashed. It would be fine during Ultimate matches, but both cases it crashed trying to load data, such as the end of a match.

is there no homebrew that emulates the ring-con? I have one myself (and the game) but i was thinking, given the game basically doesn't use button inputs it should be possible to use them to simulate various ring states (ie one button is "fully compressed from the sides", another is "half compressed")
i guess there's not much interest either way

Got one too and I've thought about using the ring-con on the pc but I have no idea where to start. All I get from using it is that it's its own controller akin to plugging stuff to a wiimote, so it probably has its own output signals. I'm not sure if there's currently a way to read what's connected to the cons

I dunno if you anons could help me, but I dunno where to start to fix this.

Or is the Vita just dead now? Please help me anons
>>
>>540038563
never heard about this but smells like sd card business: if you're using sd2vita check the sd card you put in there, may be failing. If you're using the actual vita memory stick then it may also be failing as those are known to be prone to failing (especially the bigger they are apparently). If you're using both then either or both can be the issue

Does the PS4 have a Freeshop style app where I just download games from a menu?
>>
>>540129517
There was/is gamebato thing, I never used it and my understanding is that it's paid and gay.
Old shops relied either on platform holder game CDN being unsecured (like NPS or old ninty freeshop), or games being tiny and realively easy to host (new 3ds hshop). This is out of question for new platforms and you only need to look at tinfoil shops situation to see how bad trying to community-host shops for modern-sized games is. I suspect the path forward for those is making the shop app be torrent managers as well, pretty surprised this hasn't happened yet.

you might have left it on in RCM mode which will eventually empty the battery. autoRCM just means that if you press the power button once while off, it will turn on in RCM mode

>duckbill: Congratulations, you fell for the English version of DBI. Now your console has a tag that can only be removed by rolling back from a backup. Get ready for a wide variety of glitches.

wouldn't be that hard to diff a backup of the filesystem and find his faggot file.
why are russians such cunts tho
>>
>>540474938
i hope that's not a thing (or that the "wide variety of glitches" do nothing, as i didn't have any issues on my switch since then), i accidentally got the translated version 2 weeks ago cause i was updating my shit and just got the latest file available in his releases
>>

I deleted dbi years ago and just stuck with awoo can't remember if I had the Russian or eng version lol

>>
>>540474938
You're assuming it is a file. He just says tag. You can open something as storage on Switch and write something anywhere at any offset and it wouldn't even show up as a file.

That's assuming it's actually true and he did it. I'm not worried. I never used DBI. I'm just assuming it's a giant mess of spaghetti code from cramming as much shit as possible into it, some of which is probably lifted from open source shit. That's how sphaira is too. Shit code quality with no regard to safety whatsoever. Would not touch.
>>
>>540476585
you could still diff the filesystem to see what files changed. sure it would take some fucking around but you could do it.

what if i just roll back the time, or don't update dbi? How are the glitches supposed to trigger?

Here's some of the funnier stuff:
https://github.com/ITotalJustice/sphaira/blob/4300c9ee1b38906faa64d6adf93013388562548a/sphaira/source/web.cpp#L20

https://github.com/ITotalJustice/sphaira/blob/4300c9ee1b38906faa64d6adf93013388562548a/sphaira/source/web.cpp#L30

https://github.com/ITotalJustice/sphaira/blob/4300c9ee1b38906faa64d6adf93013388562548a/sphaira/include/fs.hpp#L114

That last one, all four operators inherently can't be constexpr since they're calling C string functions that operate on runtime memory buffers. That can't be evaluated at compile time. Also, none of them actually check if the buffer can hold the incoming data first leading to potential buffer overflows and UB. Sure, it's a homebrew app so nobody is going to actively try to exploit it, but it is there.

This has got to be my favorite though. It's pure gold:
https://github.com/ITotalJustice/sphaira/blob/4300c9ee1b38906faa64d6adf93013388562548a/sphaira/source/ui/menus/save_menu.cpp#L106

That's just what my buddy and I found that I remember. I'm surprised the compiler doesn't catch this stuff, actually.

>>
>>540482976
You forgot the part about him being clearly mentally ill too. I think my favorite part of this whole thing is that he claims cryptography is his specialty, but DBI's strings were some basic bitch xor if I was reading correctly.

Insider knowledge I shouldn't share: He literally believes that nobody else in the Switch scene is as good as he is because he made DBI do everything. He doesn't seem to be able to comprehend that him having no life != better skills. A lot of the devs moved on and have lives to worry about now. He never did. Also, part of his goal, regardless of what he claims, was to make everyone reliant on DBI and then only release it in Russian to "troll" people. I've seen the chatlogs.
>>
>>539395772
brother as someone who has fucked up 2 ps2's trying to install modbo, do not install it unless you are at the very least familiar with soldering. motherboards are very sensitive and you can cause irreperable damage by doing stuff which can seem benign. most modchip install videos on YT are filmed with a digital microscope and make it seem much more easier and straightforward.

if you still want to do it, buy some practice soldering kits and a GOOD soldering iron (i recommend the HS-02)
>>
>>540482976
>getting everyone else caught in the crossfire
Isn't it their own fault for choosing to rely on DBI when there are like 3 other alternative apps that can install games besides DBI?

Are you fucking kidding me?! My Vita kept crashing on startup so I thought my sd card was corrupted, it was a bit old after all and had previously become slow, and even though the tests didn't show any damage it just kept crashing. So I ended up buying a new card but got the same outcome. Then it finally occurred to me to troubleshot the files and it was a fucking plugin! All I had to do was edit a config file and I wouldn't have spent my money on a fucking new card! I want to kill myself!

How would you know? It's closed source. Just because something works, doesn't mean it's programmed well. Most homebrew is written by hobbyists and used by people that can't read the code. If they could, I doubt a lot of the most admired devs would actually be admired anymore.

I don't know if you can just copy/paste to the new SD, and I'm too lazy to go check but

>>
>>540588816
>was it that vitadb autoupdate plugin or something else?
Yes, it was the vitadb plugin. After I made a clean install of vitadb I was prompted to install the plugin which made me realise that was the culprit. I don't remember installing it in the first place but it was there anyway.
What's most vexing is that when I was looking up for possible causes (before buying the new card) there were no results suggesting it was the plugin. Only after identifiying it was specifically that, it showed solutions for it and by then it was already too late.

NTA but that reminds me of something i was meaning to ask, does anyone have any recommendations for someone to install a modchip in a lite? The lite's a used one I bought in rough shape to use with that OLED+HDMI megakit whenever they finally release it and as far as I understand having it hacked is useful for that too.

Also somewhat related, but does anyone knkw if there's any US based people who'd repair/mod/clean a Panasonic Q? I bought one a year or two ago and never got around to getting it fixed since it at least has the drive rail issue those typically develop but also might have some other internal damage that I'm too inexperienced to determine. It turned on and output picture when in DVD mode but I couldn't get it to turn on in GameCube mode and the front buttons don't light up if I remember correctly, but I haven't tried it recently. I mainly bought it when I did since it was the typical price for one in the condition it was in but it came with a broadband adapter too. I'm mainly interested in getting it repaired (and maybe recapped since as far as I know that's a common issue due to it's age) and cleaned but getting it modded without losing the disk drive's functionality would be nice.

Hey guys, just followed the guide to install cfw on switch 1, I don't think I fumbled any of the steps but after installing nsp games (I'm using awoo installer) I get an error message saying I need the virtual game card
Saw some posts claiming it was due to having firmware 20.4.0 but I'm pretty sure the guide says firmware shouldn't be an issue, I think I have the correct sigpatches since I got them from the guide, or are those somehow outdated?

I'm looking to buy a CFW-compatible PS3 slim. I know that only models made before April 2011 will work.

For the majority of listings, the seller mentions not having any of the cables so they can't test it for full functionality "Sorry bro :^)". I know I'm likely to get fucked over with these listings--some bullshit either with wifi/bt or most likely the bluray drive, or maybe even the HDMI port--so my only option in that case would be to flash it via hardware exploit.

With a NoBD CFW option, I've read that multiman won't work properly (or at all I think), and that I won't be able to play isos, only pkgs. I vaguely remember there being a way to convert isos to pkgs, but I don't know how much of a pain in the ass that'd be. As for multiman, I don't know how much of a loss not being able to use it is, though I know there are alternatives. Anything else I should be mindful of in case I get fucked over; anything I'd be missing out on with a model with a faulty Bluray drive?

Even if the drive doesn't "work" properly, there still may be hope in jailbreaking it if the logic board is intact. Any way of testing that's the case other than swapping out the actual drive?

Perhaps it'd just be best to pay for a known working model to save myself the headache of troubleshooting. Regardless, why does no one take care of their shit?

9.00 if you want to use the exploit with the USB stick. The exploit for higher firmwares require you to connect the PS4 to a PC with an Ethernet cable to run the exploit.
If you go with 9.00, then you'll have to find some games / updates that have been backported, so figure out what would be the least annoying solution for you.

so, I want to replay Dark Souls on switch v1 but goddamn it runs like ass, at least the audio mod fixes the horrible audio compression.

I found this
https://gbatemp.net/threads/dark-souls-60-fps-mod.557760/
https://www.gamebrew.org/wiki/Dark_Souls_60_Fps_Mod_Switch

But these haven't been updated in a while, I wanted to know if there was a way to change the resolution, so it runs better in portable mode.

A really nooby, shitty switch statement to return a string/name representation of the module a system save belongs to. It's particularly funny for a couple of reasons:

1. EVERY SINGLE REPEAT case you see that returns the same string (ex: "ns") could be consolidated into a single block of cases that return the same string:
case IDA:
case IDB:
case IDC:
return "ns";

2. The break statements aren't needed and are dead code because they follow a return statement.

Basically, it's extremely nooby and poorly thought out. A lot of Sphaira's code is in general. If I point this out to his simps, I'm a hater for actually knowing my shit.

Not only is the community the most jewish, it's also the worst in quality. So many "respected" techs that do send-in services for an RGH do it so poorly and charge you up the ass for both the job and shipping all while potentially breaking your console in the process and blaming you for anything that goes wrong. Fuck this community. If this soft mod ever comes out I hope all those faggots go broke.
>>
>>538805608
That's what happens when the community has stagnated for 20 years. There's almost no competition so it fosters this mentality where you can charge however much you want because where else are you going to go? I recently had to lock a hard drive for an og xbox. The hotswap method wasn't working, and frankly it's fucking retarded, so I had to use FatXplorer to do it. My only other alternative is using a PC with an IDE cable and a command line where I can potentially brick my other drives if I'm not careful. I'm hoping a softmod will result in an influx of people who will create their own alternatives but I doubt that'll be the case as Microsoft consoles have never been as popular as anything Sony or Nintendo related.

Picked up a switch lite for $78 (think that's a good price?)

Think it would eventually become super easy to homebrew and get free games like 3ds? Just bought it in case that happens before that happens and prices skyrocket like the 3ds.

Think games like Fire Emblem 3 houses, final fantasy tactics, advanced wars reborn and other srpgs (which I like most) would hold value if I bought them now and hold onto them until homebrewing becomes easier?

Quick question about patching NSPs to work on older firmwares using SAK (was that the tool?), do you need to use the prod.keys of your own switch's emunand (using Lockpick to dump) or do you need to use the latest firmware prod.keys? Don't know how to dig the files, but it's possibly a Native port, at least for SMG2; it's about 2.6GB compared to the 1.4GB from the Wii.
Not sure how big the audio files are, if it even does affect it, since it has the sound track at the title screen.
SMG sees little difference; comparing Switch (3.3GB) to the Wii U download size (3.7GB)
