new trace fix?
>>
>>541111307
should mention that it's nearly as old as the ds itself so i changed it a little to build on libnds 1.8.3, any newer than 1.8.3 and you'd have to learn how to use the calico shit where they completely rewrote a lot of libnds
>>
>>541109509
I don't know shit about DS development, but at a glance, touch all needs to go through ARM7 if what I'm reading is right. Are you sure ARM9 can just read it normally like that? Maybe you need ARM7 to read it and store it somewhere they can both access it? Just throwing it out there. Like I said, never touched DS. Only 3DS.
>>
>>541113923
that is right but libnds provides a default arm7 binary that does nothing but respond to arm9 ipc for things like touch and soudn
>>
>>541113923
my understanding of it from the libnds examples is that the ARM7 only runs a little bit of code to be set to idle and send things to ARM9 while the ARM9 handles everything else

Having problems with running pokemon X on my 2DSXL. Luma 13.3, most recent firmware. The console is Japanese but allows for region free gaming. Black screen and softlock after choosing language in game. I figured out that this was due to the 1.5 update, I can play the base version just fine. Redownloaded the update multiple times from various different sources, still no dice. Oddly enough, Pokemon Y works just fine even with its respective 1.5 update installed. I also have a physical cart, when I put it in and boot it up it just gives me a black screen softboot immediately. I've tried messing around in luma locale switcher as well but no luck. Any ideas?
>>
>>541172109
Pokémon started being region free in X/Y, so language isn't the issue.
You may need to delete the folder that the update is located or the folder of the game's title ID.
If you got a spare SD card, try a fresh install before deleting stuff. Sketchy SD cards can do bad stuff too.

thanks to the guy last thread who hooked me up with a solid download for pokemon violet, i'm back on the grind now. it's such a pain to find roms though and the only freeshop I have has a 5gb limit. that's specifically why it happens to be fair
also having used android on my switch (there's no choice there by the way, you just get the latest version available) i'd say it's not worth it, ultimately you realize everything it can do your phone by now can probably do better, with the switch just having a slightly bigger screen over it. Has anyone tried update bad avatar over bad update?
I have been using bad update 1.2 for while now and using my old xbox 360 acc. Can you flash it over not to lose saves etc?
>>
>>541294017
only cause 3DS still has some games not ported elsewhere, at least for me
though i'd also agree the 3DS was the last true big company name handheld given the switch's portability is only good for playing on the sofa or bed. Even the vita is too big (not to mention the protruding sticks) to actually carry it around without a dedicated case. Sucks most chink handhelds also do this and very few took the clamshell design way
>>
>>541297459
if they had made the switch lite a "clamshell" that closes on its sides (ie the joycons closing inwards on the screen) i would've got one
>>
>>541297459
The niche of actually pocketable machines is taken up by smartphones, would be suicidal to try to compete with those.
>>
>>541306541
smartphones are still too cumbersome to actually play videogames with, even if just for the fact that they don't come with built in controllers. It's the reason chinkhelds that are literally that, phones with a built in controller, sell like hot cakes. Or like in another field, why dedicated music players still sell even though you can just use your phone, people like having dedicated hardware instead of a "it does everything" hardware
>>
>>541315891
I'm not saying you're wrong to want dedicated devices, but I feel you're way underestimating how niche those are now.
PS5 install base is what, 80mil now, random Chinese emulation handhelds on budget SoCs aren't even competing in the same league. Nobody is mad enough to seriously release and treat one like a real independent platform.
For actual high end gaming all platform holders figured out that nobody can afford to have separate handheld architecture and to develop a unique game library for it, so yeah it's all going to be largish luggable devices for the foreseeable future.
The big advantages phones have is they are already in everyones' pockets and people have been conditioned to spend well over a thousand dollars per device so it can have a really nice screen and a top end SoC.
>>
>>541297459
There's a ton of chink clamshells lately. retroid flip 2, miyoo flip, anbernic rg34 and 35xxsp, ayn thor, ayaneo pocket ds...
I wish Nintendo was making one instead because they all have caveats.
>>
>>541323951
same but at the same time i'm glad it's not cause i'd essentially want a more powerful 3DS, and by 3DS i mean a hacked one
they're going slow and steady with it but in 5-10 years i can see those rog ally or legion or even a steam deck getting a clamshell model, maybe even "dual screen" (aka it has a foldable screen)
>>
>>541294017
mostly because there's no way yet to accurately replicate the feel of a 3DS/DS, dual screens is still something so unique that emulators just never feel right, and ports have to get rid of any dual screen capability, which keeps the 3DS a very unique system because its games are hard to adapt to single screen devices.

On top of that, the 3DS was made portable first, even the Switch Lite is not as portable as a 3DS XL.

I feel there's still a market for a DS-like device, but maybe not big enough for Nintendo to justify manufacturing, at least for now, maybe in the future they'll release a 3DS Classic Edition if they feel like it, but it will probably just be an overpriced console hoarded by collectors
>>
>>541337983
The Switch broke Nintendo, they won't do anything cool or interesting for a long time.

>Is the difference between the steam deck LCD and OLED models that big?
Same power between the two models, but the OLED has:
>Larger battery (50Whr battery vs LCD's 40Whr)
>WiFi 6E (LCD has 5, it's slightly slower)
>Dedicated bluetooth module
>The screen is OLED (duh) and it's slightly larger than the LCD (OLED is 7.4" and LCD is 7")
>90Hz refresh rate VS LCD's 60Hz. On the OLED, you can limit the FPS to 45 and it won't have stuttery framepacing like trying to do 45FPS on the LCD
>Can use HDR (which can cause some stutters and lag depending on the game)
>Can get brighter than the LCD (1000 nits with HDR on, 600 with it off; the LCD is 400 nits max)
>The console itself is a bit lighter than the LCD version
>The touch screen also has better response
>OLED has a longer charging cable kek
I feel like the discount on the LCD is just Valve trying to clear out stock before discontinuing that model, and the battery alone is a a pretty good upgrade, but you do you. There's also the chance of getting a refurb, so check if there are any for your area.
>this is also assuming the steam deck can run android too
Why? For Moonlight? You can probably just use Sunshine instead, which is Moonlight for AMD. No need to fiddle with Android.

Don't big updates burn fuses or something like that so you can't downgrade? Also, what I'm supposed to do with already installed games that require >20.x? Uninstall them, patch them and install them again?

custom firmware bypass the fuses
only a problem if you're booting stock on old firmware if you burnt fuses (updating via dayback doesn't burn a fuse)

>>541394375
Well, the stock was already on 20.something when I got it and I updated the emummc so I could play Silksong. That's why I thought I was locked to that firmware. I guess there shouldn't be a problem if the cfw is on another version then.

Are these people crazy? I know about XONE backwards. But with the bad update, you'd think they'd sell the games for cheaper. Because it's better to RGH or, with the bad update, softmod your console. Resellers and collectors are the worst.
>>

they're fiends but on the other hand they're enabled by the complete retards willing to spend that kind of money. It's especially grating when they go "i want to play this old game, of course i need to buy this used copy that goes for 200 bucks!" as if piracy and emulation just didn't exist in their mind. And like yeah i can get collecting and whatnot, but at some point you have to realize you're just making it worse for yourself and everyone else too by not telling sellers "fuck you i'll just emulate it"

Is there any way to easily almost instantly transfer a 3DS save file from your handheld to PC and back? Like over FTP or my home network or whatever? Hell even uploading the save to a cloud service or something. I haven't touched my 3DS in ages but want to be able to play this Pokemon romhack seamlessly on the go and then back on PC through emulation. I don't want to have to whip out the SD card and SD card USB dongle thing and go in and copy and paste blah blah blah every single time.

I have JKSaves program or whatever else on my 3DS already for save file and file management, I know how to backup and transfer saves manually. I just don't know about any easy potential FTP/upload function.
And if it's more of a hassle than just using the USB dongle I guess I'll suck it up.
