What I meant is that if your game just has a flat hit chance % there's no reason to have the player manually roll a die for that, make it automatic.
Another strength of dice is that it's a very intuitive way for players to understand rerolls or picking a result, I don't know what your game is about but maybe consider a blood bowl like system where you roll more than one die and pick a result.

Hey vg, I was wondering something. I am pretty recluse (do not collab with others, but I do online research), I am easily a developer first, I hire an artist that I only talk art with, they make the art. I code. That's it.

While working on this game for two years, I am realizing that my game scalability wise is *very easy* to scale. As in, making content that feels unique is really easy as I made almost everything Data driven. The AI is also getting a hell of a lot smarter. I have never worked in a professional studio or with indie teams, my coding experience comes from making very data driven code for general companies.

I am getting a weird feeling here that making scalable, well built game mechanics, should be more common?

I am not patting myself on the back or bragging here, I am not some wiz.
Some theories:
-A lot of those driven to make games are more art-centric, and learned coding to make the game, therefore, 'complicated' code hardly exists
-I am not hunted by Investors to my game and entirely self fund, therefore I do not need to cut corners and am on my own time
-Coding entirely alone means I am only speaking my language

Am I missing something? I would like to know other's input on this

Can you be more specific? Give an example? What kind of game are you making? An RPG might be easier to scale because you can write side quests as modules, as long as you have the engine. A simple platformer can be easy to scale because each level is its own self contained thing. A metroidvania is not as easy to scale because each level has to build off of the last one (i.e, new abilities unlock new areas in the game, puzzle solving needs to take advantage of new mechanics, you can't just work on content in isolation)

Sure, in my case an Action Roguelite (think similar to other titles like Hades, with the intent on having far more weapons and enemies).

I already built the seed generation, a full save system that is easy while developing to add and remove serialized content from said save.

The in game shop (not real currency, just currency in game) is coded as well and can be populated with whatever pretty easily.

Weapons and attacks have a very solid pipeline, melee has a combo system that even the AI is capable of using (the AI can stop combos if the target moves away). Damage execution is kinda "cute" in the current state in that it does quite a bit, but that is only because I modeled it after another in depth system I have studied in a released game. It won't stay that way, but I like that I figured it out I guess?

Enemies can also fight each other and path each other. Easy to add/remove abilities to any enemies. They also have sub types. All of this is developer side and doesn't reflect what will be in the shipped game. With that said, any of this can be removed and added back without much time needed and no impact to other systems. This includes that while developing this, I was also developing the multiplayer side of it for fun, even though I had no original intent to include multiplayer in any capacity (I use it as a break from making base game code).

It's pretty sandboxy at the moment, and I am not saying it is ready for any sort of alpha or anything, just want to make sure that is clear. I have experience in my original job of shipping out software after testing in test and dev regions, so those sorts of pipelines already are clear to me as well.

Unlike Youtube which can give you a random number of views at any moment, Steam will gradually decrease the visibility your game has until literally nobody sees it ever and it can ONLY spread through word of mouth. YouTube, on the other hand, can still recommend your other videos or the same video again randomly (unless it's shadowbanned which you know how to avoid, unlike on Steam). It doesn't seem to do that AS much as it did a year ago but it's still better than Steam's algorithm by a long mile.

I dunno what you're doing but typically multiplayer logic is throttled to a lower tick rate than game logic anyway. By default Unreal groups together packets and sends them 20 times per second. So even if you're running at 120fps, the guy on the other side is only receiving packets at a 20fps limit anyway. You can change this of course but for most games that aren't competitive shooters it's adequate.

no and it's primarily because I dislike gdscript .the very concept of a python-like scripting language for game development is a dumb idea. I was so glad when Unity abandoned unityscript or whatever that shit was called. godot chose the wrong path, they went the other way, keeping their gimmick language and neglecting C#. thus they sealed their fate in my eyes.

the other problem is the tendency to half-ass 3D features and then abandon them to half-ass an alternative and then abandon that, too. it's like another cargo cult Unity thing, where Unity can afford to half-ass and abandon new features because they already have a robust way of doing most things and devs can fall back to the older way. so Unity merely stagnates due to this bad habit. they've just stopped making real progress but the engine is still worth using because it was already worth using in the late 2010s. meanwhile godot doesn't have those fallback solutions. there's no fallback for "I need proper lighting in my 3D game" in godot and at this pace there never will be because Juan just fucks around with some paradigm (I'm sure he's eyeing radiance cascades next if he hasn't already started on that) but nothing ever finishes so the engine goes another year with NO lighting solution, and another, and another.

in my case, I'm not incorporated because while that may make my personal funds liable to lawsuit, overall it's better for tax because I can average my earnings in a way businesses can't and the corporate fee just makes it worse until I'm earning in the higher tax bracket anyway.

The 30% steam fee comes out before other taxes. Steam simply doesn't give that 30% to you. You only get the 70%, so you are only taxed on that 70%.
Income tax applies when the funds reach your personal bank/wallet/moneyholdings. If your funds end up in a business, it'll be business taxed but won't be income taxed, at least not until you decide to pay that money to yourself.

dudes, this game is cancer and aids. he's on nintendo switch so he's a nepo baby. try and apply for nintendo switch SDK, you can't get it unless you know somebody. plus the in game graphics have fake lowres you can literally see that the model underneath the pixels has a higher detail geometry, its like he's using a fake pixel shader or something, and then in the night vision mode it has screen tearing! probably fake as well, why the hell would you ever add screen tearing of all things to your game? This guy is a tosser I hope he gets hit by a bus.

Photo-bashed assets are probably the least limiting approach out of them all. You don't even need any serious drawing skill or use expensive software, just paint.net is enough and having a loose sense of "what looks good". Plus it's fast.

businesses only pay tax on declared profit. they get to subtract all business expenses from revenue before being left with any profit to distribute.

you can pay yourself a wage as an employee which becomes a business expense, makes sense if your personal income tax is less than corporate tax + your personal income tax on the dividend disbursement.

and then there is your dual 5090 SLI computer that you used to make your game with, a business expense. taken out of business revenue before profit or tax is calculated. so pre-tax money.

and don't forget your ford mustang company car that you use to go to media junctures and gaming events with, its anime vinyl wrap is also your corporate advertising. all business expenses. As is its fuel usage when you drop a business card off at your destination or somewhere along the way, such as at the gas station.

your home costs such as roof repair renovation, getting it lifted and built-in under, water bill, power bill, internet bill, are all pro-rata business expenses for your usage ratio as a home office.

and your 3d printer that is used to make plastic clay miniatures for you to photo bash into your game is a business expense as is all your time spent learning or researching on YouTube.

in fact every experiment or side hobby you've ever done was a documented in a log book corporate project that was part of you developing your product and is a business expense.

I'm surprised your business will ever make any profit at all, you'll probably never make a dollar in profit after all these expenses and therefore never pay a dollar in tax, I know many of the worlds richest corps certainly don't.

Sorry for the late reply, game industry wise, yes, it's a playable alpha, I just don't want to distribute it to anyone presently while work is done. Earlier, I said it is not an alpha or anything with the hope it would be a strongarm to avoid the alpha conversation haha. I know now that was stupid of me, but it's because I have heard the same arguments about how quickly games can be put together for game jams, and I get it, but I thoroughly am scrubbing this game while building it to prevent bugs now & future bugs. I want all scenarios to be handled without it being bloat and slow.

So I wouldn't say I wasted two years, the project is coming along pretty great on my end, and concept art is looking great. Honestly the one thing I would say is bad is that I cannot find a good 3D modeler for the life of me. Pay isn't the problem, I have paid fair wages in the past and been very undemanding in regards to pressure.
