>>538838569Unironically yes. I'd rather read a text box, or even hear him do the voice acting himself with the aid of a voice changer, than have an AI voice it. It's so grating on the ears.

>>538838101This would've been much more acceptable if they, instead of trying to voice act every single dialogue instance (especially because of their low budget) they just had a set of simple quips for each character that they would use.Even some of the biggest brands do this. Granblue Fantasy, which rakes in a ridiculous volume of money from being a popular gacha, doesn't fully voice act everything. Characters have simple quips such as "sore na ..." "hwa!" "daijoubu desu" "hmmm..." which can be laid over any text that it's relevant for.

I can make any kind of game. There's nothing that's technically beyond my means. It will just take a long time and not have enough appeal when finished because in 2025 your game needs to be in the top 5% to have been worth developing.
>>538838335Elisha is the best self improvement youtube channel. Not a shill, not selling you a dream etc. Just gives good geniune advice.
woke up early for the ninty direct
>>538842762>There's nothing that's technically beyond my means. It feels good to reach this level of skill. I feel similar, and my main concern isn't with if I can make a game or not, but what sort of game I should make, based on how long it will take to finish, as I'm a little bit impatient, and how much I'd personally enjoy the final product of the game. It's hard to make my mind up with finding a balance of passion and development cost. I'm experimenting with idle games because they seem like a genre that allows for strong thematic expression and fast development speed, but the lack of mechanical gameplay makes me want to scrap my project and work on something more conventional.
>>538842762>I can make any kind of game.Okay. Make an RPG systems based game in 3D and with full on voice acting.

Posted my demo day demo on Reddit. Got like 40 more people to play it, but no one left any feedback beyond "this is fun." Why are Redditors so useless?
Should've made a dig-like.
>>538844670that could be true>>538844735the only reason to delay launch after the page is public is to farm wishlists/gain attention for your game before release, and make more moneyif you don't care about money, you can release it as soon as possibleif you want to increase revenue, advertising the game while the page is active is a good way to gain wishlists and build "launch momentum"steam's promotion algorithm works through revenue periods, so amount of revenue your game generates in a short period of time, normally a week, i think, directly relates to how much promotion your game receivesif you release a game and make 10 sales, your game will remain hidden, revenue is too lowif you make the store page public, farm wishlists from advertising and promotion campaigns, release your game afterwards, and get 1000 sales, the revenue your game has generated will increase the exposure it receives on steamit all really depends on how much you want to set your game up for steam algorithm promotion after launchkeep in mind, your game can have a weak launch and still find success later on, there is no "dead" point for a game in regards to the algorithmif you release a game, and it's stagnant for years, but then it suddenly blows up and becomes popular, the algorithms will notice the increase in revenue, and begin promoting your gameso again, it really depends on how much money you plan on makingi don't know what your game is, but three months should be a decent amount of time to build hype for an indie game with humble expectations, just be sure you're posting about it and building support

I don't want to go into work early....
>>538838719If you're just getting into clicker games you're in for a bad time because it feels like someone just released a tutorial for a game where you're in an arena while your health is ticking down, and when you die the skill tree is a node tree with marginal upgrades and everyone is copying it without adding anything useful. If you want the good ones you have to go back a few years, here are some of the best ones the genre has to offer in my opinion, based on the fact that they're not just "number go up" but actually add interesting mechanics:Universal PaperclipsAlkahistorian SeriesCrankA Dark RoomCandy Box 1 & 2Wigmaker

management/business sim where instead of making cars or games or whatever you make fembots.you need to pay attention to market trends, to take advantage of economies of scale, to incorporate latest hardware, etc.but there's also a tower defense component (I thought xcom like tactics component but let's avoid the tactics curse) where hordes of feminists want to burn down your factory and your fembots are the only ones who can defend it so as you progress you need to balance the fembots' market appeal with their combat capabilities.please someone start making this so I don't project hop again.

>>538859895>how is this even fun?The fun behind most tabletop games comes from making the best of what you're given and outplaying your opponent, and most non-RPG tabletop games are relatively short so they can be enjoyed in small bursts. A game of dominion for example goes for about 10-20 minutes. But the downside is that you need a table to play on, and in most cases, someone to play with. With video games you don't need any of that.

Around 100 games release on Steam alone EACH DAY.About 700 games in the week around your release.AAA release? Successful release AAA or indie, in your genre? BOOM you are done. Also, not only are you competing with other new releases, but the entire backlog of games on every system a player owns. :)Take all the "indie success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of devs in that time who have tried (again, 100 games a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "making it."Steam cut, higher self-employment taxes, no benefits, no retirement, AND to top it all off: Your sales diminish over time, so even if you hit this "mediocrity lottery" you'll have to do it all over again in a couple years.>He thinks that indie gamedev can provide a sustainable primary income in 2025HahahahahaH O B B YOBBY

Let's say I have an achievement that goes: score 10, 20, 30, 40... points. I'm planning on checking the player score in player stats when game loads and if the player score is 35, I will mark it as player has achieved first 3 levels of this achievement. So if I later change the numbers it won't create a confusion. I won't have separate achievements as "score 10 points", "score20 points"... I will have one achievement with array of milestone values. This is correct right? I thought this was smart so I can adjust them later and also I was planning on just making local achievements, then I thought I would need to structure my achievements in the second way if I want to register to the app store, google play or steam. I haven't tried setting achievements at the store side so I don't know how things work.

I really like the vague storytelling in this game, also this has been the longest demo of all for me, I can't believe the dev left so many levels here. I agree a bit with the streamer that some checkpoints/spawn points would've been welcome in some levels (the second level is a bit too long). The first area of the second world is more or less cinematic for instance. I've been enjoying it so far, the music is amazing.

What kind of game would suit this style? Neon cities, skyscrapers, main character has a high apartment overlooking the city, etc.
>>538912689I don't know of any games that do that do I can only guess. My guess would be that having a melee weapon is relatively boring compared to the fantasy of being able to cast spells, so in order to spice of the "boring" melee fantasy developers add more incentives for melee players to change out their weapon. Whereas people who like playing as wizards are perfectly fine using the same shit as long as they get to shoot fireballs.

>>538918951If you want to make a game (or any piece of media) set in the modern world you need to have a really good reason for it. It's difficult to create compelling stories within a modern environment since many people play games/read books/watch movies as an escape from the real world. They often don't want to be presented with the same problems they might encounter in their own lives, they want something different. An obvious exception to this is when you take en existing story set in a different time period and move it to the modern day, which helps the viewer/reader/whatever better relate to the themes of the story by viewing the characters in scenarios they're more familiar with.

Important question for you guys. For an item shop game like Recettear, how important is the dungeon crawling mechanic as a way to acquire items. I'm not gonna make a full on dungeon crawling game so I'm left with two choices. Either I make it like in that My life as a king ff game where it just says the party defeated x,y,z monsters and brought back a,b,c items or I have an old rpg style combat with the heroes and monsters on opposite sides of the screen and they just play animations on their own until one side dies. In that case the monsters would drop items and it would be up to you to either continue and risk losing it all for more items or return with what you got. You would not do much directly though it would be autobattler-like. Is watching the fights and choosing whether to keep going or not that much more fun than just getting a report saying to what extent the party succeeded?
the age of the inner circlehas come to an end
>>538938097Very. The Recettear shop gameplay is braindead garbage once you know how it works. The dungeon crawling is the fun reward you get for performing well while dealing with the shop grind.
my project has hit the point where it has 100+ code files and i can no longer remember wtf anything is or how it fits together and so progress has stalled to almost nothing

Expanding on the events beyond just price differences would liven it up compared to Recettear somewhat, but without the dungeon crawling side gimmick the game seems bare
>>538939149Isn't the whole point of the game that you essentially play as what would be an NPC in a typical fantasy game? The dungeon crawling always felt out of place for me. Not to mention it plays like if Ys made in Pakistan. The auction idea was just that, an idea off the top of my head. You can do whatever you want.Maybe flesh out the rivalry thing with the HOHOHOHOHO anime girl.
>>538939421I personally have no issue with just the item shop portion since that was always the core of the game. I'm just wandering how important a side minigame would be to break the monotony of only doing the shop, whether irrelevant or needed.
>>538940029Even if dungeon crawling was good, I think it'd still be pretty low in importance.Because you level up from running the store and getting combos along the way, and that in turn unlocks more things like new items, orders, vending machines, and decorations. The game is also arguably too short to be repetitive.I guess it depends on what changes you are planning to make to the core selling gameplay. Also, playtesting. If people don't tell you it's repetitive then perhaps you don't need to worry about it.
I've killed and raped a million devs. I'll kill and rape a million more.

I've been adding upgrades to items. This is afterglow. It increases your sight by 1 for a period of time after using the light.
>>538941471kind of odd to see you ended up specializing towards roguelikes. Your game ideas were always some of the more interesting ones at one point.
>>538935351neat
i'm setting it to 1342, but apparently it needs to be set to 592. why 592? 1342 makes more sense. incidentally, those two numbers are exactly 750 apart. but i don't know what's 750.

>>538949175yeah
>>538949381What's going on?
>>538938097Pacing out your game into strategy -> execution -> more strategy is just good game designIf you ditch the dungeoneering execution loop, you should probably replace it with something elseSomething cheaper to develop obviously. You could just minigamify dungeoneering somehow to remain on theme, but not require all the mechanics. Like picrel for example.
>>538949381settle down, okay?
>import new song as wav into Godot>add it to the audio player script>start the scene where it should play>silence>go over the code again>everything seems correct>1 hour later>realize the wav file is 28MB and probably taking ages to load or not loading at all>convert it to ogg>plays just fineIf you weren't retarded your game would already be finished.

>>538957021>Brush brosUnironically i don't hate the guy. He's a slimly salesman but he actually did put in the work to make gamedev a career as he's about to prove himself for a 3rd time.>>538957030It's not personal, it's about what they represent. It's the celebration of taking extremely stupid risks for low pay outs and thinking it's a good life decision. These are people who release a mediocre game or worse off haven't released a game at all and then quit their jobs thinking they are going to make it big. It's not about providing a game for others to enjoy, it's about their own 'personal journey'. If they are a loser working a deadend job then fine, you have nothing else to look forward to so YOLO. If you have a mortgage, wife and kids then I don't want to world to reward such reckless selfish behavior.
>>538957795I like how you automatically assume the dev lives in a Western country.
>>538957808>he's about to prove himself for a 3rd time.wait, what's he working on now? isn't it gonna take years to release another game?

I made extra graphic showing which item you're going to use in a conversation. I'm debating if I should change the distance between dialog options to accomodate for the items as they're a little too big. Chasing trends is guaranteed failure. You won't have enough passion to make the game worth the money. It will suck. Don't bother.Stick with your passion. Don't view gamedev as a get rich quick scheme. You will fail.

Why can't you get a random thing from dictionaries? Why isn't that possible?

What would be the most straightforward program to do a dead simple 3D exploration game with a little movement mechanics?I want to make some simple environments to explore and just keep it simple.
