Thanks, I was showing the game to younger kids and they were focusing mainly on picking stuff but interactions with characters were always the most confusing part for them. I want to keep picking up items in the overworld and combining items the way it's now. Items are visible enough, I think, and some, like mushrooms, that seem to be just a part of the scenery, are much more visible once you read that one book with cooking recipes.

I think I figured out why the platforming genre has faced a complete rejection by Steam players.

1) Saturation. Too many low quality slop coming out.
2) Foreign markets like China don't have nostalgia for platformers since they didn't grow up with NES, SNES etc.
3) Zoomers grew up with 3D platformers like Sly Cooper and Ratchet and Clank.

This is like saying "the third person genre".
There are many different types of games that use a 2D side scrolling perspective but offer wildly different gameplay systems and appeal to wildly different audiences. Celeste and Blasphemous are both platformers and yet those games are nothing alike.
Certain types of platformers are oversaturated, sure. After Celeste's success a ton of devs started making "movement platformers" that all had air dashes, wall jumps, wall slides, etc. where the goal was to just traverse platforms without dying. But there are still ways to iterate on the platformer template and make something new and interesting. Like what Dirkdev is doing by combining platformer elements with traditional adventure game elements >>538972000 . I'm surprised there aren't more modern games like that already.

I want to make a mystery game set in a very specific type of environment but I cant think of any ideas for the plot past a certain point.
I've decided I'm just going to make the entire environment first until I have a fleshed out world I can walk around in, then see if I can get inspiration based on what I have for how the story can progress.

The theory I've seen floated is that the devs working with UE5 don't understand the engine and that Nanite, if used on a traditional workflow that basically every development studio uses, will singularly fuck your entire game up. Because Nanite is built to render everything in a frame. Things that are hidden by overlap aren't rendered because they're treated like they don't exist. I played around with audio, pausing the game will change the pitch and lower the volume, unless you want to adjust it. Also grug Dirk is only for charm set to 1, a very subtle change but he looks much better now.

Added some buttons that let you quickly move to a game mode's next/previous level. Also added the ability to zoom the map in and out. This isn't really useful at the moment, since everything is so close together, but later, once there are more levels, this should come in handy.

use something like iterate 100, then pause a frame then do the update of the rest in a diferent frames.

Basically having them not be 60 FPS their updates, but a single loop that updates using a timer every second.

60 frames * 100 chunks = 6000 objects per second loop.

If your concern is their motion, then update their movement vector a 1 FPS, or 4 FPS.

A "clicker/number go up game" but in 3D first person, you have to bring an egg from the chicken to a tube that takes it away. You can only carry 1 egg at a time, you get points for each egg, which you can unlock stuff that helps you bring more eggs at the same time, and faster to the tube, and eventually automate the whole thing, add more chickens, more eggs, etc.

Shark loan money recoverer simulator. You gotta go to people and beat them up to get the money back. It's low poly, kinda like Gang of Beasts + "Schedule I" style, so it's "cartoon violence", not too realistic. What I really like in games are obscure, hidden or otherwise unstated mechanics. Like, how in GTA 4, if your car's engine breaks down, you can use the kick button and kick the engine to start it back up. That's the kind of stuff I really like, and I've put it a lot in my games.

Problem is though, I already released a game with such an approach in it, and the result ended up that 90% of the players didn't figure out or find out these hidden mechanics. But explaining them and making them obvious would defeat the point for me. What do?

Stop wasting time on those mechanics. Learn to prioritize, make a decently popular indie game first, once you have a significant fanbase then you can start adding secrets and easter eggs. I'll be 100% honest.

The core reason why nobody gives a shit about your game, is that it looks like dog shit and poorly amateur programmer art.
The second, is that is the gameplay is a generic retro platformer or another farming clone or another depression jrpg.
The third, is that the story sucks and your characters don't have charisma and are lame.
The fourth is that your music isn't as iconic as understale or touhou or Tunic.
And there's nothing that make me like wanna pirate it, no big mistery, no promise of big adventure.

It's just a lame oatmeat soup of oats.
That's your game.

No amount of social media and marketing guru tricks can make people interested in your game, because there's nothing that make me wanna play it.

How do you move faces on the UV projection independently of each other in Blender? Does it require a specific type of UV projection?
I've seen videos where people will unwrap their model onto a large image texture and the move the faces around so that the texture lines up with how it's intended to on the model. Whenever I try to move the faces on my UV I'm unable to do it and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

I've partially figured it out. I had to enable face selection in the UV editor, then I can select the face in model edit mode, go back into the UV editor and select all to select the face I have select on the model, and then I can freely move around the face. This feels really clunky so I'm assuming it's not the correct was to do it, but it works.
However I can't view all of the faces on the unwrapped UV when I do this, only the one I currently have selected. So there's a lot of overlapping UV faces, which I'm assuming is bad.

Fuck Blender, I give up. I'm just going to model my environments in Rhino (the only 3D program I know how to use), render the scene, then draw over it in Photoshop to make it appear 3D.
I'm probably going to have an easier time doing this and produce better results than I am teaching myself how to model, texture, animate, etc. as I also teach myself how to make a video game.
