i'm trying to use my dualshock 4 for tilting emulation in citra (through ryochan7's DS4Windows fork) so that i can play the tilting minigames in warioware gold, yet even though citra is registering the controller (UDP server is active), the tilting is not functioningi had no problems emulating tilting for kirby and the forgotten land, so what gives? do i have to configure something in the "gyro" tab?
>>539339272is there any reason to play it on dolphin instead of the switch version on yuzu if you want to play with a normal controller? there is no custom controller profile that makes it play better on dolphin than the switch version right?
>>539339909You can get the full painterly effect the devs intended if you play at 1x res on Dolphin. I think they removed or heavily toned it down on the Switch version.
>>539340928Yeah thats the main reason. That effect works best in standard def since that's what it was made for. If you lower the resolution in yuzu/ryujinx to .5 it actually looks pretty close to how it did on the wii but text and ui become garbled a bit.

Thought I'd give one of Mega Cat's earlier games a try, and man is it rough! Don't get me wrong, it's nowhere near as bad as R&S: Time Warp, but this still felt pretty terrible to play. Your main moves are a jump kick and a punch you can charge. The first move is basically useless since it makes taking out enemies a chore, and the second move is more likely to damage enemies at the same time an enemy damages you. And finally, there's this "twirl" move that I found only useful for bosses since it takes away part of your health the more you use it. Speaking of bosses, the first boss you see will be reused plenty of times throughout the whole game, which makes it an extremely repetitive game overall. The most variety this game has is in its final boss, and by then the game's already over with once you've fought the same damn aliens over and over again.

>>539388334>Mednafen is deadWhat happened?
What the fuck? While I was looking for reviews of this game to see if anyone else shared the same sentiment I did, I managed to find out that the PC version of this game doesn't seem to be some emulator with a border slapped on top of it. This might be the "definitive" version of the game, but probably not by a lot.
>>539393815It's run by a man pretending to be a woman. What do you think?
>>539399097>It's run by a man pretending to be a womanIt's an emulator, yes
Oh god, I had a feeling this would be a Unity game if it weren't made for the Genesis...
Guess I'll wait for that beat 'em up from McPig to come out. For as much shit as they try to throw at you on-screen in Coffee Crisis (PC), the moveset feels like a major step backwards from the SOR series.
>Lookin' Good
Anything wrong with NetherSX2-patch?
Coffee Crisis (PC) is fuckin' weird, man. It's got some superficial graphics improvements, slightly more enemies, and a combo system. However, the overall moveset is still the same as the Genesis version. (Except for the ability to grab enemies, but I rarely found that move useful.) Oddly enough, jump kicking is far more effective in the PC version. You're able to move in the air a lot more freely while you kick, which means you can easily kick the shit out of most enemies while they're trying to get up. (Especially the shooting grey aliens, which gangrape you in the ass on PC.) However, there's one thing that absolutely sucks about this version, and that's the "modifiers" gimmick. 99.9% of the time it forces the game to have lookin' good-tier shaders and arbitrarily fucks with the difficulty. I hate to sound like Big Blue Frontend, but pandering to Twitchfags was the worst move Coffee Crisis (PC) could've possibly made. Had the PC version prioritized an improved moveset and better collision detection, it could've been more than a slight improvement over the Genesis original.
Let's try this again.
>>539346196>>539340928>the effect ever 'worked' at allI understand the intent but in practice was like a slightly more stylized N64 blur and was hugely detrimental to the game's overall clarity and aesthetics. If the effect could somehow work in HD, sure, maybe, but it only works in what's what too low of a resolution to pull it off properly. You'd probably get better results approximating it with Reshade on top of an HD render of the Wii game or the Switch version.
>>539412192You've said this Yentl thing twice. What? You mean Beetle? Can you fill me in on the joke here?
>>539393815No new updates or posts from Ryphecha in ages. See also>>538625905Dunno if he's sold out, opted out, or what.
The 486 Mister core is neat. My Win98+XP desktop doesn't have an ISA slot so that's a decent solution for low-lag VGA out to my CRT monitor. It will run that weird-ass DOS version of Turrican 2 and Ultima 7 with sound just fine, both of which fail or launch without sound on any machine with a PCI soundcard. The emulated CPU definitely can't hang with mid 90s games though. Duke runs terribly and Quake's a no-go. DOSbox and PCem work more than fine on a VRR display and with better guest machines, but it's just nice to have yet another PC emulation option.
>>539412423What? I dunno Ymir sounds like Yentl. The movie. How young are you that you haven't seen it?
I'm mildly delirious with the flu right now.
Speaking of DOS - I put together a 100 MHz machine on 86Box mostly for early Windows games, but I also want to use it for DOS games. I realize a lot of earlier DOS games are speed-sensitive, so I'm not going to bother with the likes of Wing Commander or most anything made before 1990, since they most likely expect either a 4.77 MHz 8088 or a ~25 MHz 386. Still, is there a list of games that is likely to work regardless of processor speed?
>>539413653I've figured that I'm older than you awhile ago. I can't be aware of every thing. How foreign are you to think Ymir (EE-mir) is phonetically similar to Yentl?
>>539413798That's an unreasonable list to compile. DOSBox is a far more reasonable choice for those speed sensitive games as you can change cycle speed on the fly.
>you have to pass the lore check of some godforsaken turbo-jewish Streisand movie that doesn't even sound like the thing I'm referring to or you're obviously an uncultured zoomerGod this board is sick.
>>539413993I know, but even so, I'd like to keep it to a single emulator. Yes, it's autistic of me, but I just want to see how much ground I can cover with the one machine. Perhaps a more reasonable ask is what games are NOT likely to work at ~100 MHz.
>using 86box/PCem for DOS gamesHas there ever been a benefit to this? Outside of simulating all the pains in the ass for full immersion; why?
>>539414379Quake and any high res 3D game generally wants as good of a CPU as you can throw at it, preferably a lot more than 100mhz. As for what won't work due to running too fast... like thousands of games. A good rule of thumb is the older the game is, the least likely it'll be throttled. You'll also find games that will just refuse to launch or throw errors if the CPU is too fast. Jazz Jackrabbit is such a game. It's usually at the 200mhz+ mark that that starts happening, then you have to disable cache, underclock, or use something like throttle.exe.
>>539414649Understood. Sounds like I'll just have to test on a game-by-game basis. Yes, I know I'm just making things harder for myself by not just using DOSBox, but there's something about being able to play games spanning nearly a decade over the one platform that appeals to me. Thanks, in any case.

>>539433898Nesticle runs fullspeed on a 486DX, not really an argument. I know I'm taking shit too seriously here, lol. Beetle/Mednafen always was a bit overly demanding. SSF could run on a fraction of Beetle's requirements. It's still faster than Ymir the last I checked, too
Radiant Silvergun was like 80% speed with fluctuation on this awful AMD Pro chip I have. SSF ran it at fullspeed. Not sure if Ymir's been optimized more since. I imagine he's working on getting it better rather than faster.
>>539415384DOS/early x86 was kind of a bad platform, honestly. It's not like a console where you have this targeted standard that just worked. Ciggy would lose his goddamn mind testing PCem/DOSbox because it's a lousy experience that requires tons of tweaking even on hardware, and that's *IF* you have the right and non-malfunctioning hardware.

>have to get a 3rd party update script for MiSTer (update_all.sh) and change its options on execution to get the BIOS you need for the N64 core to work properly; the particular file it wants is extremely rare and not easy to google otherwiseNot exactly intuitive. I'm sure those update repo servers won't work forever, too.
>>539446049Mac OS X, for sure. QEMU is pretty much it and it's a terrible emulator. Luckily I struggle to think of any software or games anyone would really need to run on PPC OS X. Seems more like something you'd want to emulate for immersion than anything. ~2K x86/NT hasn't been too crazy for me in practice. Wrappers are usually fine or at worst I have to virtualize it. I'd love for 86box to be faster and more capable so we can run 2000s games in it, but we've had this convo before.
>>539405753It's an abstract kind of indieslop. Alright, after sitting down with it for a few days: MiSTer>CRTemudrivers by a mile. 240<->480i transitions actually work. The setup time (barring bidirectional Samba setup, holy shit what a mess) is far less. You don't need a transcoder on the MiSTer, all you need is a VGA->component cable. It matches Retroarch +1 runahead latency. I've found that you don't really need composite cable/adapter as most cores have a dither/blur simulation option. The old computer cores (Atari8/Apple2/Tandy) that justwerk over 15khz is an underrated feature. Yeah. I'm shilling it. I'm doing it for free. I won't buy an ad. I don't care. ~$200 for the MisterPi is at least pretty reasonable compared to what it was to buy in years ago. You need a ~$50 transcoder and an e-waste AMD card on PC (and the PC) anyway, so it's not hugely more expensive. That said, I don't recommend it for any other reason outside of CRT-TV use. Standard emulation is far better on a modern display.

You're also talking to me who posted the 3D Allstars picture to so I'm not coming to Nintendo's defense or anything; I just kinda wonder what devs did or didn't do with the potatoes that were given to them at the time. Are you the Skyward DOF tard too?
I just tested Azahar Android on my phone and had astonishingly bad performance. I tested a couple Kirby games and while they are playable and the general framerate isn't awful it chugs every time anyone does anything on screen. Games take 3-4 minutes to load (unpacking like 32000 shaders each time) and it takes like 2 minutes to load each savestate. When seen in a vacuum I was considering that maybe my 2-year-old phone was just shit and not ready for the dizzying heights of 3DS emulation, but no. I tested Citra MML and that shit was running at 100%. No lag, no stutter, loading games normally as if I was on a GBA emulator. Then I tested the Pablo fork of Citra from before the fork merger, and while performance was close to Azahar in that it stutters quite frequently at least it loads games and savestates in a normal timeframe.I am genuinely wondering if I did something wrong here, maybe I got some malware version of Azahar and it is stealing my credit cards while it's loading all those shaders. No idea how the performance of the followup project can be so much worse than the previous one. Is this a known issue? Is there any other fork of Citra with savestate support I can test out or some config on Azahar I can change to boost performance?
>>539560054>>azahar devs are barely trying anything and are using AI on top of that so every "update" breaks something that worked fine beforeSource? I thought PabloMK7 was legit?

GroovyMister isn't really anything special, latency-wise, compared to what modern displays + VRR can do. It's just a low-latency way to get non-Mister content to a CRT. Neat, I guess, but a little underwhelming. Anyone telling you that CRTs/MiSTers are better than modern emulation and displays regarding latency is selling you a bill of goods. Still a neat device if you want to use a CRT, though.

It's also slightly faster than native emudrivers.
>>539670314That's interesting, I guess I'll stick with crtemudriver for now because the upgrade might be too small to noticeable anyway. I don't know if you've already seen this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDBJaR36sdY where the guy did some lag tests and the GroovyMister was basically almost on par with PCBs, so it could vary from game to game.

>>539659592Both are good but probably blastem.
>>539677587I think it just goes to show runahead +1 on a modern display, GroovyMister with the same settings to a CRT, and native mister cores are all about as fast, and meet/surpass hardware by a little bit. Also just got GroovyMister to work with Dolphin and PCSX2, which is nice to see as who knows when those will ever work via FPGA. Also, there's this MisterCast thing which is basically the same idea as ShaderGlass: you take a portion of the screen and send it to the mister. It has a lag penalty because of how it works, like anything that mirrors a DWM window, but it's still a nice utility. I got it to work with Touhou just now, and it makes it look like a PS2 game.
As silly as it sounds, the Kirby Samurai minigame is an excellent ballpark latency test. I have a very good idea of what I average, and about 5-6 rounds will give me a decent impression of the total lag amount on a setup. All my best setups + my avg reaction time give me a score of 9. I can immediately tell when settings make a difference: if I turn runahead +1 off, my scores shift up by 1. This minigame counts frames.
On really crummy normie 1080/60 HDTV setups with vsync, no hard sync/frame delay, and no runahead, 14-16 is expected.
>>539651456It's a good thing the greatest Nicktoon of all time has at least one decent game to emulate. Stimpy's Invention is obviously no Gunstar Heroes, but it's one of the few co-op platformers the Genesis has to offer.

I guess it would be good for the older Tandy shit that was meant to work on junk TVs instead of high res VGA monitors, but there's already a native core for that.
Back in the day I thought interlacing/high res modes on old TVs looked fine with no side effects of the the interlacing. These days, I definitely see it. It's not nearly as bad as say, an emulator spitting it out on a progressive/digital display, but it's noticeable somewhat.

It seems like the accuracy improvements for stuff like that are gonna start with the mister project and end with fbneo same for stuff like the sega system 32 as well which is more than alright those games have been preserved with very few if any inaccuracies. But man, konamis bemani and caves work are its own Japanese arcade history, more or less non-existent in the West ( man, i wish I pestered my mom for caves shit on the 360 when I was pre-teen oh well sonic unleashed and final fight did the job) beatmania has its own pokemon showdown equivalent in the form of beatoraga not that much younger than beatmania itself as well as a medium sized music subindustry industry thanks to it.And cave was as stubborn as snk sticking almost exclusively to that small ultra dedicated player/fan base till 20*******12. Only four things have comparable life spans the neo geo, the naomi, the ps2, and the master system.Cmon mame people, enough with the Chinese bootleg handhelds and chess and slot machines they're taking away from stuff like this and emulation of graphics and audio hardware focus more on stuff like the neo geo 64 and stuff like this man.

It's an OS for NEET trannies and freaks I'm tired of pretending it isn't, but we're gonna be glad it's there one day.
Honestly I don't know how MS survived 8. I wouldn't be surprised if their shareholders demanded the heads of those behind the start screen.

This is where Bill Gates gave his famous speech.
>>539736453Well, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise has another 7 years of support left. I'm hoping by then Linux solutions will be better. I'll be switching by then anyway because I'm 100% sure Microdick is only gonna get worse, and I've already dabbled numerous enough times that I can more or less get around on it, but I'll hold out as long as possible before I fully take the plunge.

I'm pondering getting a chinkheld for emulation but I have no idea what chinkhelds are capable ofShould I just get the latest like Odin 3 or Thor and not worry about specs? Are ergonomics good on these chinkhelds?
>>539753465/vr/ actually has a chinkheld general: >>>/vr/12021923

Is it possible to run M2's Space Harrier ports on NSO if they're injected through CaVE Database Manager? I've tried getting v1.5.x.x versions to run, but they won't WOMM. CaVE v1.4.6 is the last version that WOMM, but its versions of NSO that can be injected are out of date. This seems convoluted, but I don't feel like buying a Genesis Mini for only two (notable) games. Since the Genesis Mini ran on Linux, I'm hoping there's a simpler solution to run m2engage (Mini/NSO Genesis emu) on something like Arch or Debian.
>5 hours of sub-pokemon tier difficulty>Game randomly throws an SMT superboss at you while you have an underpowered characterThis shit is so fucking ass and should have just been a VN from start to finish.
>>539764998there is no game with aggressive random encounters that's worth playing
>What if King's Field was crap?
>>539767691>>What if King's Field was crap? Then it would be King's FIeld? It's a 60% shit series Redditors only pretend to care about now because of Dark Souls (which is also overrated)
>>539770529I've seen worse.
>>539770529It works fine because the enemies also turn slow.
>>539625081Just look at the commits
>>539773207The entire game being boring ugly shit with bad controls and all difficulty coming from trial and error will make it worse>>539774451Doesn't make it fine. If you looked around that slowly in Fallout the game would be shittier irrespective of whether the enemies are also slowed down
>>539780467The slowness is intentional and adds to the atmosphere of the game. You're meant to be struggling. It's not a mcsharty power fantasy.
How are you meant to craft a bleak somber atmosphere if you're moving like Mexican that just saw an unmarked van.
>>539467892tried this 2 or 3 days ago and couldn't get it to work, as such i went through xbox games and started wondering if there was anything in it i really wanted to play, just deleted both emulator + games.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O66CtfuS8R0Hope this gets completed and the work is ported to MAME.
>>539770529KF1 just worked for me, granted, I was overclocking it, Shadow Tower Abyss was also kino. Dunno what it was about KF4, just couldn't get into it.
I'm thinking of buying a $50ish mini PC to play old games on.Ideally I would install Ubuntu and RetroArch and set it up in my living room.I think I would like to be able to play N64 and GameCube for the most demanding titles. What are some good specs for PCs I should be on the look out for? Any good benchmarks to make sure I am at or above?Ty
>>539758178This is a really interesting question. The Genesis Mini 2 ROMs are dumped ( https://files.catbox.moe/4spm1f.zip ) but Space Harrier 1 and 2 run on 'fantasy' enhancement hardware that only works on the Mini2's m2engage. It looks like NSO uses some version of m2engage, but I doubt it has support for those enhancements included.
>>539333001this has to be the second time i downloaded God of war IIIgame files are fucking huge too.
>>539790838If I'm wrong and these can work on NSO m2engage, definitely report back. I don't have a modded Switch to test this on. Not sure if an NSO ROM with the injections can be loaded into Ryujinx/Yuzu.

>>539791443>have to use archive because the wiki's 3rd world server is down again
>>539791443Thanks! :)
>>539790985Download the ISO on myrient. Mount it on a virtual disc drive. Use PS3 disc dumper. Put the extracted decrypted files in the games folder. Should work. Unless they break the emulator even further.
>>539792028i mounted it and it just says "sorry you have no disc drive"wtf man.I wonder if this 2.0 iso i got directly from myrient is just broken or something
and archive never goes down, nope. :^) It also won't be taken down for good one day because it was cutting into some cocksucker's bottom line or it contained some inconvenient truths about a nation-state.
>>539792028Just use the "PS3Dec" on your PS3 ISO files. After that, you can mount the ISO. Then, when you fire up RPCS3 and you're good to go. It keeps things way more organized this way.For any games you got from the PSN, you still have to use the folder method.Oh, and if you want to make the whole process even easier, you can use a simple script to automate the mounting and launching part;https://web.archive.org/web/20250916020540/https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Save_disk_space_for_ISOs#PlayStation_3
>>539792161Use Wincdemu and create a virtual BD drive.
>>539790985>God of war IIIGood luck even if you get it running. There is a bug where you can't open chests. As usual, you can download ps3 games, having a decent emulator to run them is a different beast.
>>539795257Not him but this bug must be new. I've beat this game 3x on RPCS3, no issues at all.
>>539795928>look up>elad'd in another wayhttps://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/issues/16909
>>539796313When will they kick this faggot?
>>539795928>https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/issues/16909The bug also existed on original hardware but the updates fixed. Elad's shenanigans did something that gives a chance of the bug happening regardless if you have the update. He did fuck up the entire disgaea series if you use updates.Man hates updates for some reason.
>>539770529>heh, I'm too cool for the best melee action game of the 7th generation (and onward)Alright. Tell me what modern 3rd person action games you do enjoy. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm merely curious of what you don't consider overrated.
You have to have some truly PATRICIAN taste and I'm expecting some deep dank cuts here. Wow me.
>>539790985well whatever I have kind of given up on the god of war 2.0 and i'm now downloading the 1.03 versionI wish this game was on PSN or something at least i would be able to download it via no paystation's database
>faggots lying about BlastEm's Teradrive mode booting the Genesis Mini 2's Space Harrier Mark V ROMs>the github dude sourced the emugen wiki, probably edited by some bad actor or schizo on herehttps://github.com/farmerbb/RED-Project/discussions/56?utm_source=chatgpt.com#discussioncomment-6795606https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Sega_Genesis_emulators#:~:text=for%20compatible%20emulators.-,Extended%20VRAM%20mode,-%5Bedit%5DThis doesn't work at all. >>539790449If you sniff around you can probably find a $50 NUC with good enough integrated graphics do to this. That's what I did.
>>539800717obviously, extending your budget to 60-80 will do you a little better, $50 is lower end or you may have to throw a power supply/SSD/RAM in. These will do the job well for you otherwise, though. Consider the ThinkCentre Tiny or Optiplex Micro series too. Just Youtube the performance on their chips + iGPU. There's enough out there to make a call. I can confirm that my NUC with a 7 series i5 runs Dolphin and PCSX2 just fine, so any many you find with i5-7*** or better should do the trick and be within your budget.
>>539790449>N64 and GameCube for the most demanding titles. The most demanding games make even high end PCs struggle, but the 99 percentile will run on literally anything you can buy brand new
Anybody managed to get mega LD emulator working on Ares? I'm trying to launch JB Harold but it fails saying I have the wrong firmware. I grabbed and tried every firmware I could find on archive (as was directed, tried TOSEC and other files I found) but none work.
I wonder what sort of cosmic odyssey of pain in the ass it will be to rom hack Laseractive games for translations. The Don Quixote JRPG is in danger of being lost forever.
I love the retroid pocket classic man.Its got just enough power to play something like deathsmiles mega black label or shillouete mirage or even sonic heroes. Can't get more for less than 200 until this year really.Even still, I'm surprised by some of the compromises ive been made to do, can't run flycast with the accuracy settings despite being powerfully enough to handle mednafene saturn. had to switch to software rendering for rage racer just so I don't experience any frame drops. And i can't run melonds with resolution increases and games like mugen frontier exceed will lag to shit with default settings, that and I can't run jaguar although, .jag may just not be a good filetype for retroarchs jaguar core.
>>539806041Ah shit meant to post this to the vr chinkhelds board
