I think egonomics on the Thor are going to be terrible, as we have already seen with the ayaneo pocket flip. For this reason I'm no longer excited about these handhelds and I'm just waiting for the Flip 2 to drop in price to replace my RP4.

How is discussing Android-run chinkhelds considered retro here, but talking about Persona 4 isn’t?
>>
>>12022021
Maybe, but seriously no matter the hand size, there's no way that a dpad and joystick placement that close to the edge and bottom is confortable to use. I had to buy a tpo grip for my RP4 to be confortable and I have medium sized hands. I think the flip 2 did well in that regard moving the dpad and face buttons to the center. But with these dual screen devices there's no room

Anyone here have the 35xxSP? How are the buttons on the new versions? Any hinge issues?
>>
I wish they made a device with the exact dimensions of the miyoo mini plus with a brighter oled screen and slightly better processor. Now THAT would be a dream handheld
>>
>>12022006
Both devices seem to be following the 3DS style layout with the addition of stacked shoulder buttons and a proper analog stick at the problem. Because of the dual screen in the middle, ergonomics are undoubtedly going to be fucked as a result for anything besides 3/DS games. No real sense in paying for anything besides the cheapest model of either to emulate 3DS games and call it a day.
>>
>>12022502
face buttons are ok but the dpad had no change so could be a long term problem if you don't do anything (taped mine but might add washers)

Guys, is any of those new retro handhelds good enough to use for LSDJ? I wonder especially about sound quality, saves (when I used chink clone of everdrive GB and original GB it had problems with saving ). Also for LSDJ you need certain setup of keys (you use select+dpad to change screens) so for example GBA key setup would not work with it

After beating DuckTales 2, finishing off the 4 major DuckTales Capcom titles from back then, I'm feeling sort of... depressed? It's like, what now? What's a good site to download roms from? I remember there was one full packed of GBA and NDS roms but it was some 15 years ago and I can't seem to find it again, nor I remember the name. >>
I want to get the Thor so bad, but there's a few things stopping me:

1) Ergonomics seem shit. That d-pad placement is as bad as the RP5.
2) Hinge seems to be the exact same as the Flip 2 and will most likely break.
3) It may have the same input lag delay as the Odin 2
>>
>>12023754

>>12023127
Test it on your PC, Gambatte is the core normally used for GB on everything, IIRC low end is too slow for SameBoy. Sound quality is pretty meh, speakers aren't great save for a few select ones, interference while WiFi is in active use.
>Also for LSDJ you need certain setup of keys (you use select+dpad to change screens) so for example GBA key setup would not work with it
Just rebind select.

If you're worried about economics just take the grip pill. That's what I did for my N3DSXL and it felt so much better. I understand not wanting another peripheral to carry along or not wanting to add bulk. But in the end there will always be tension between ergonomics and portability. I'm happy using a grip at home and maybe going without it when I travel. The reality is if I ever do use these handhelds on the go it's never for extended periods to where ergonomics would really bother me.

The portal+grip is the only chinkheld that I can actually play for multiple hours without any sort of hand cramping, might be a big hands thing.

I think the g cloud does the same in giving you two perfect rounded corners to "palm" and hold in a very relaxed way that fills your hand. It was enough for me to sell my steam deck.

aliexpress, look for store name that is e.g. 'Ampown Online Store' and not 'Shop11054873' and if the prices looks too good to be true, it probably is.
also aliexpress has a 'coins' thing where you can get further discounts but you need to daily collect them, or get them for placing orders and writing reviews.

Hey, it's >>11973056 again.

I'm enjoying the Miyoo Mini Plus a ton, and it's supplanted my Steam Deck as the retro gaming device, since it's nice to leave the Deck suspended on something besides RetroArch, and also keeping any progress made on the device I always have in my pocket. I'm not really much of a stickler for super accurate emulation, ideally it'd be cycle accurate, but I can manage with even allegedly "low quality" emulation.
Even still, I notice that emulating GBA games on my Steam Deck just "feels" better, than on the Miyoo Mini Plus, and wanted to ask why this is?

Please note, don't try to tell me it's impacting my gameplay, or give me really subjective stuff like "it increases the skung factor." My most played game in the past few days, on both systems, is Sonic Pinball party, and with save state + rewind fuckery some of these shots are tighter than a Royal Guard parry from DMC3, maybe even frame perfect, and I'm able to land them relatively consistently on both ("relative" because it's fucking pinball, even on a physical table I'll miss some of them). But again, I will concede that it just "feels" better on my Deck, beyond the higher resolution and ergonomics, and want to ask why is that?

Are some of the frames maybe lasting too long on the MM+? Does it run at like 57 fps instead of 60? I'm curious why there's such a discrepancy that I can feel it, but not easily see it, and I'm not asking because I think you guys are lying, I just never really cared enough to look into it since if an emulator doesn't outright break my game then I'd always considered it "good enough"

thanks
>>
>>12027670
I've never had a MM myself but chances are you are hit with one of the following:
>the screen itself isn't as high quality as the steam deck
worse response rate etc
>the OS on the MM is laggier/doesn't do as well getting around input lag
I don't recall if MM is android or linux but its probably not a super up to date version
>the emulator you are using on the MM has more input lag than the one on the steam deck
presuming both are using retroarch that shouldn't be too big of a thing tho
>the steam deck is strong enough for better emulator settings
like run ahead to reduce input lag, but you probably haven't set that

FPS drops are possible, but gba isn't particularly high spec. I'd personally bet its a worse response rate + 16-66 ms of input lag (gba sp native is 33ms vs 16 gba I think?)
>>
Found some guy selling his used Arc-D very cheap on a local (as in from my Country) online marketplace. But I wanted to make sure there are no gotchas with this device before I got it. Is it any good (build, dpad, etc)? Is there any need to replace the stock firmware?

It’s pretty great in terms of ergonomics, buttons feel nice, haven’t really noticed any false inputs (though my point of reference is M30 which had some shitty false diagonals, haven’t held a real mega drive controller since I was a kid). Stock Linux refused to run any games, maybe the SD-card was just that shit, no idea. Stock android was okay, ended up flashing GammaOScore, works fine but Daijisho refuses to work with the standalone Yaba Pro 2 standalone app. Some people use Rocknix, haven’t tried it myself though since it doesn’t work with Android

Speaking of efficiency, the topic of Arm vs. x86 came up here, as it does every year. AMD, almost like Intel recently, declared that the myth that x86 can't be efficient was refuted last year. Both AMD Ryzen and Intel Core can offer extremely long runtimes in notebooks, while accessing the entire x86 ecosystem. Ultimately, the overall package doesn't offer an advantage for Arm.

Like >>12027383 said, vertical devices aren't terribly comfortable. It still sounds like a good device at its very low pricepoint, but personally I prefer something like the RG40XXH more compared to its vertical equivalent. About the same width/thickness as my phone with its case on, but more comfortable to play older games on due to being wider, and I think its worth it for how cheap it went for on sale (paid about 70 CAD so probably 50 USD). Probably not more powerful though for an up to PS1 device but may have slightly better build quality to make up for it.
As for buying the cheapest handhelds consistently on something like Aliexpress, they have pretty frequent sales. Just check not only the product but the store ratings as well. I unfortunately can't speak on not getting duped by any clones but I think there's only really there's only the one vertical model with a 3.6" 480p screen with the D-pad on top.

>worse response rate etc
maybe. The timing of the shots in SPP are identical, but the "smoothness" of the gameplay feels a bit off on the MM+ compared to the Deck. the easiest way to put it is that I swear it's like some frames feel a few milliseconds faster or longer than others

>I don't recall if MM is android or linux but its probably not a super up to date version
I don't think the OS would impact it much, because OnionOS and the MM+ in general is rooted in Linux, and so is the Deck. I can say from experience though, since I have multiple PCs, every game I've played on my gaming Windows PC feels better than on my Linux PC. And it's not a power issue, because both can max out Sonic Robo Blast 2's 144 fps for my monitor. But the "off" feeling going from my Windows PC to my Linux PC, with SRB2, is the same weird off-ness I feel going from the Deck to the MM+

>presuming both are using retroarch that shouldn't be too big of a thing tho
yeah, I don't think it's a retroarch issue since both are using it

>like run ahead to reduce input lag, but you probably haven't set that
I might on the Deck, it's been so long since I tweaked performance settings. I know I knew enough about that aspect of RA to actually open up the performance settings menu and try tweaking it, only to to undo said tweaks since it was too much for the MM+ to handle.

Also to ask another question to the thread, is there another chinkheld with better specs, as popular as the MM+, with an OnionOS styled suspend? I ask because I was curious and looked on Etsy for knickknacks and MM+ paraphenalia, and after seeing the absolute swathe of novelty stuff like primo buttons/d-pads, color options, accessories, etc, I'd enjoy having those options for when this piece of shit inevitably shits itself too, going by what Anons in the archive say is inevitable with all chinkhelds.
