How come 2D Mario’s quality nosedived after the SNES era? Tried NSMB on DS recently and the jump physics feel worse than in World, almost no air control, no freedom to pull off cool moves. And all the later 2D Marios are built around multiplayer, so the levels are just wide empty platforms and playing solo is so dull you practically want to fast-forward IN the level.SMB3 and especially SMW still feel special, challenging, full of player autonomy, and even Yoshi’s Story at least nails the style and vibes. Have Peach use the ice flower power at the very beginning to defeat some of Bowser's forces strategically but have her lose in a one on one duel against his fire and have her barely escape, having lost her realm in the process. This would establish Bowser as a powerful threat much better than that stupid penguin opening did and also show that Peach isn't strong enough to win on her own, hence why she is recruiting heroes with unique abilities. The movie really wants to be a team movie where everyone joins forces to defeat the bad guy but it is terrible at the set up and pay off.
