Every week you had an event, which showered you with rewards. I wasn't even a day 1 player, yet I had every single character. It also helped that lower tier characters were few (I believe only 6 of them existed). And you never got screwed over by packs, since each pack was dedicated solely for their own tiers. So you never got scammed for opening a gold pack and getting a silver or bronze character. On top of that, doing ranked fights gave you so much EXP that you could take two level 1 characters in your team, plus your beatstick, and you could max them out with easeThen, I remember it like it was yesterday, an update rolled that increased character dupe tier from 7 to 10, and it fucked up everything. The best part about MKX progression was that the amount of EXP needed to max out a character was dependent on their dupe tier. A tier 7 character needed more EXP to reach max level than a dupe tier 1 gold or platinum character. Most of my characters were at max level and high tiers. Then after the update, the entire EXP and progression economy 9/11'd itself as it was impossible to level up your characters anymore without paying real money
