Genesys is a SCAM. It is just TCG Banlist #2 to make you pay for a second deck.

Decks that use up 90+ points on engine/endboard pieces cant play handtraps, boardbreakers or staples such as Pots, Allure, etc. Any card with 50 points or more is just a banned card. They don’t have any place in competitive decks whatsoever. If you don’t agree just observe how many tournament winning decks include the most broken Yugioh card in history: Maxx “C”. None will, because 3 Fuwalos for 21 is enough and 50 points for 1 copy of the bug is just a ban on it.

The Genesys banlist was clearly desgined with a 100 point cap on it. See weird numbers like Bahamut Shark at 81 points and Toadally Awesome at 20 points. The cap will be 100 points at every official Konami big event. No exception.

The Genesys banlist will be shamelssly instrumentalized to sell product just like the TCG banlist is. See below. Also, if they barely can manage a 200 card TCG banlist with 4 options for each card (Forbidden, Limited, Semi-Limited, Unlimited) they will not be able to adjust well enough an al ready 500 card Genesys banlist with 101 possible points assignment for each card. Just think about how many banned cards on the TCG banlist could come out. 80+ points cards on the Genesys banlists will take YEARS to get their points reduced to a playable ground (Konami is a pussy, if they go through the trouble to Limit, Semilimit and then Unlimit useless Dragon Rulers step by step they will reduce unplayed cards points 5 by 5).

Future TCG releases will include broken Xyz, Synchro or Fusion based archetypes to dominate the format and force you to spend money on them. They will not be healthy and will include negates and floodgates. See Pair-A-Dice Smasher. They clearly hit most floodgates, negates, turnskips and handrips cards by assigning them 100 points but somehow they missed Pair-A-Dice just like they missed Vanquish Soul. This isn’t coincidence. This is designed to be TCG #2 where they will promote the best deck, and they will give it turnskips, negates or whatever it needs.

Current card design already avoids creating new meta Pendulum decks. And links are just Synchros without a concern for Tuners and levels. It only takes broken enough Synchros and Tuners to be released to get the same gameplay in Genesys. Old school players won’t be able to tell the difference between TCG #1 and TCG #2 gameplay.

Their only intention with Genesys is to extract more money from your wallet by selling NEW product, not OLD one.

Konami has already announced there will be future exclusive Genesys YCSs. Eventually official events will play with TCG Banlist #1 on uneven months and TCG Banlist #2 on even months. Every competitive player will have to pay for 2 decks and every pro and Yugituber will promote TCG #2 on their Social Media.
If Konami successfully forced their players to play Tear 0 format or Snake-Eyes Tier 0 format, they will force you to play TCG #2 if they want.

Yeah, the reasons they gave are kinda bad. More likely is what I said at the end of the the last thread:

Could it be due to the Bystials? Baldrake and Druiswurm are both 30 points, and those at 3 points could let you align with the 33 point setting a lot of other Branded cards are on, while also preventing you from using them as 1 point filler with a 99 set.

Or it could be like Trudea for Centur-Ion. They aren't the 5 points of Starters or the 33 points of boss monsters, but also aren't the 1 point of cards to stop FTK loops. So 3 point value of extenders.

I did see someone go the path of Light and Dark Dragonlord over Saronir since that card is also 20 points - looking like they're using the 0 point Kaos Starsource as the 8 Light. So there's a potential route as well.

There was also someone who skipped Branded Fusion to keep fusion Lubellion from valuing the recycle ability over the main deck fusion to allow them to more comfortably run Lightpulsar. So that's yet another direction.

I assume it has something to do with future support that would end up making the Ecclesias and virtuous monsters more valuable in the future. Since the new branded lore cards have some suspicious traits going on with them (equal atk and def stat monsters for Dogmatika, which is a feature all virtuous monsters have, ties to Despia aesthetically, and NO LOCKS). The new branded cards benefit Tri-brigade, Dogmatika, and Branded all at the same time.

The Bystials were attacked for being handtraps. They barely ever did synergize with the branded tuner monsters in any deck besides the already neutered Runick builds. All except saronir, who has a lower point value of 20.

Worked on my HERO deck tonight. I took a risk and made DPE and Denier take a backseat and the results were... good? Every now and then is still brick city but the deck at its best can work through 3 hand traps which is nice. There are some plays I really like such as climbing to Wonder Driver and Mask Changing to Dark Law and then re-setting Mask Change. Because then I can Favorite Contact in SnW which triggers Furnace who Mask Changes into Atomic who brings back Dark Law if it gets Nibiru'd. You can also use Miracle fusion with Dark Law and Dusk Crow to make Contrast HERO Chaos because Atomic brings back Masked HEROs from banishment as well which is awesome. I think so far my favorite HEROs are Neos Lord, Atomic, and Thunder Giant - Voltic Thunder. Cool stuff.

Unless you had a bot design the points system I don't see how this is good. And some cards frankly feel like they should have scaling costs. Like the first Pot of Greed is just 20 points, then the next is 25, and the last is 30. Or something like that. Because a system like that would make single powerful cards more point-effective, thus technically increasing card diversity (even if people just cram powerful cards). But at the same time that fits (old) Yugioh's theme of people having more 1x powerful cards.

The issue I find with Genesys is that it doesn't solve the age-old issue of shit cards existing for no reason.
Good decks still exist within Genesys that will absolutely fuck the new shit cards. Just because Genesys exists doesn't mean anyone is going to pick up Leo Wizard the Dark Fiend and start sleeving that bad boy up, because its still a shit card.
It still means that a solid chunk of every set is dedicated to unplayable dogshit that isn't any more playable because of Genesys
