I've discovered the most cozy launch scenario
>3 colonists
>1 researcher
>1 mechanitor (disable mech ruins)
>give them all a rifle and flak jackets and decent shooting, melee, and basic survival skills
>RP as a combat squad

>Colonists: leader and second in command with assault rifles and decent social skills, third pawn is a door-kicker with a chain shotgun (probably has high mining too)
>Researcher is a nerd, maybe only has an automatic pistol (might be the medic, though all pawns should have basic first aid training)
>Mechanitor is combat engineer (might have grenades or incendiary launcher or just another chain shotgun)

So far, it's been amazing being able to actually play with 5 competent pawns that can cut down a tree in less than a full day, build a hasty shelter before nightfall, and everyone can competently contribute in a firefight and staunch bleeding if someone gets shot.
I betrayed the Empire immediately and decided my squad went AWOL from it.

I'm picturing something that checks if a pawn's path would send it through unsafe temperatures and stop the pawn while throwing an alert up on the side of the screen telling you that you have X number of pawns skipping higher priority tasks because they're not equipped to deal with the temperatures they'd encounter along the way, and preferably a widget to select to disable this behavior when you want a pawn to ignore unsafe temperatures.

I'm dreaming of pawns that don't try to cut down a tree on the other side of the map during a blizzard without a parka, and pawns that don't run into rooms so hot that the hair damages them when there's a fire.

I wanna do tribal start medieval overhaul ratkin colony with just two ratkin kinds utilizing binary gene from better inheritance. My worry is now modifying or patching the apparel and weapons to work with MO crafting, and making custom ratkin work with everything else.

If you're a regular, I remember what I did to fix the problem for me. If you use RJW animations, it has a facial animation xml that fucks up the render tree for NL-disabled races. I don't know what it's meant to do, but disabling the patch fixes it for me.

Since when were these fuckers this sturdy, My turrets did nothing to them so I tried stun locking them, I had 15 pawns with hellcat rifles, one squad of troopers, one squad of janissaries, all shooting at them, plus the salvoes and 12 mortars, half emp half explosive.
And they still manage to survive the stun and fuck my colonists up.

The only reliable way I've found to deal with shit like that is mechs, low-shields, and mechs with shields on the front line to tank, then a bunch of pawns with deployable turrets, miniguns, and beam repeaters. Throw in an EMP launcher and some grenades if you like.

You have to chew through so many segments on the centipedes to kill them that only absurd fire rates seem to work.

Above is my "least harm" approach because your mechs absorb most of the damage and you spend some shields. The approach I actually use the most often is a melee squad with Zeushammers in Cataphract-level armor and a mix of Sanguophage and Archite xenogerms to make them extremely sturdy and fast. They all also have Strong Melee Damage genes.

It seems to take each pawn just a few swings to kill a centipede, so you select one pawn, then shift+click through the centipedes, then repeat for every other pawn, with slightly different paths each time so they don't waste time rushing a centipede and not being able to get an attack off before other pawns kill it. You can also set all of their default responses to enemies to "Attack", send them in to attack a centipede, then undraft them and they'll automatically spread out and bash every enemy until none are left in range, then go back to wherever their next task takes them.

It goes without saying that the melee squad benefits from a ranged pawn with an EMP Launcher or EMP mortars stunlocking the centipedes UNLESS you put brain implants in the melee squad.

I think you can only get them by deconstructing mech raid shield modules or via trading, but I also bet there's a mod that makes them buildable.

They let your pawns throw out weak, inaccurate turrets that have like 6-hour battery life and can be deconstructed to reclaim some steel.
They're pretty useless on their own, but they do draw enemy fire, catch some enemy bullets, and if they're spraying into a cluster of enemies their bullets tend to hit something more often than not. And with centipedes, a high rate of fire helps beat through their segments, so having 5-10+ turret packs spread out over a broad area can save your pawns from a lot of bullets and simultaneously pepper the centipedes with constant fire from multiple directions.

I also find turret packs to be helpful on hunters or any pawn without combat skills that might be out in the wilderness, like a plant cutter harvesting trees, because you can throw the turret between the pawn and a predator or vengeful prey animal and buy time for your pawn to escape, and the turret might even kill the animal before it gets taken out. I've also had pawns survive manhunter packs and raids that spawned right next to them by throwing a turret into the midst of them and then booking it back to base with the pawn.
Overall, I think the turret pack is on-par with the jump pack for rescuing pawns that find themselves under attack away from base.

For biorats compatibility with rat submods, if it makes assembly references to HAR Ratkin race (AlienRace.Thingdef AlienRace[defName="Ratkin"]), it won't work unless you know assembly modding. If it's from a patch you can fix the xml patch or just delete the offending patches. Mods that strictly only add apparels and weapons should work though you'll probably have to make a patch to fix spawning equipment only to rats. For apparels take note that biorats hair, apparel and headgear textures have edited textures (offset change) to match the appearance of HAR Ratkin and be compatible with headtypes from other FA mods.

So far only I have tested only Hyacinth FA and Anomaly+ for Biorats (delete all patches causing the red errors and they'll go away).

Items in progress being tied to specific pawns cause some retarded behavior. Pawn 1 starts on the first bill queued on workbench A, then stops midway and goes to take a shit. Pawn 2 sees that that workbench A is free and starts making his own version of the first bill. Pawn 1 comes back and sees that workbench A is taken, and instead heads to workbench B and starts on the first bill of that workbench. Pawn 2 goes home to have sex with his wife, and pawn 1 goes back to prioritizing workbench A, never finishing what he started on workbench B.
It's a fucking mess, and all because Tynan was afraid that you'd cheat by switching to your best crafter at the last minute.

The robe is pretty cool, yeah. The mask unfortunately seems a little buggy with something on my mod list, but I might be able to fix that later. The weapon is something like a ritual flag, it's just a little bit too red and busy so it clashes a lot with things when carried. Might be better if it's offset a little to the side

This little paralyzed brat still got 3 weeks left until she can walk. I figured taking care of her wouldn't be that bad, I mean, it's not like I have to worry about mental breaks from a cripple. They're cool but have some issues. They have way too many guns to the point that it feels like it's a gun mod with a race attached, and because they have regular tags every raider from pigs to ytts will start using them. I personally don't like the drug dependency because their drugs can't be made and must be obtained from Korossa factions, but I like the gimmick where they get survival bonuses the less Korossas there are in the colony. They also look great in a tie.

Electric collar from here, though I did modify the mod it to increase the mood from the last stage of slavery, the +15 stockholm syndrome one, by default it is only +5.

The collars mod above is the only one I have related to slaves/prisoners really, you can put the collars on prisoners too.
Disable the setting that kills downed pawns and that's it. Also using the more areas mod and colony groups to organize them.
Oh and the ones that add recreation needs for slaves and lets them do research, though those were late additions.

Kids sold to the royal tribute collector, that was pure pain, I had to anesthetize them every 6 hours or they would riot, the electric collar can't be put on kids for some reason. And the tribute collector didn't want to arrive, I called him twice and twice a royal caravan arrived, not the collector, I am not sure if the mod is bugged or the game was mocking me, after the 2nd one I spawned one using the dev tools.
Never again I am taking kids captive.
Well maybe next time I'll enslave them directly instead of keeping them prisoners, maybe if I let them run around that will keep them happy until the collector arrives.
I did kept legua, I am sure she will grow to be a great slave.
