My game is only half finished and there is still long time to finish. But it is already playable and fun, I could release as early access soon.
The problem is, Steam treats early access as releasing a game. When I will release 1.0 version there won't be any boost in visibility from Steam.

Seeing Marmoreal mentioned I felt like rewatching the first trailer, because I really enjoyed the energetic music and the editing, but he understandably privated older trailers, so I couldn't find them on the YT page. So I went to my likes and scoured the list looking for the trailer and by pure chance Marmo's 1st trailer is on the list right next to 3 bizarre schizo Touhou animations I've been looking for 4 years, but forgot I had them in likes.

These Touhou animations are very unsettling music videos to some melancholic French songs. They look like they're made by someone who's really concerned with sex, death, decay and rebirth, but also very autistic about Touhou lore and Zun artstyle. They're telling the stories of Murasa and Yuyuko, how they died and became ghosts. There's weird sexual subtext and it's making me uncomfortable. They're kinda gross, I feel they'll haunt me when I'll try going to sleep tonight. There's also animation about Koishi, but it's just weird.
So happy birthday Marmo and thank you for helping me find these animations.

I don't have a ton to show, I took a week off, and have been mostly fixing bugs and making small tweaks from DD feedback. Notable here is the roll indicator now shows yellow numbers for bets you will Win AND lose on.
I think this tool helped a lot with clarify, and I don't want to bog it down with any more stuff.
Other then that, I've expanded a lot of the systems to use all bets. Like the upgrade shop, which you can now re-roll.

Not sure what's coming next. I need to improve the out of game progression, I'm just not sure how. I kind of want something slay the spire coded, butttt that is a decent chunk of work.

I've post it this in the wrong general, apologies for the copy-paste.

So, I want to get into game development.

Current skills:
Pro 2D artist, pro music composer, sound designer, pro mixing and mastering engineer, basic C# knowledege.

So, I have my dream game right? With all this characters, music, aesthethics, plot all pretty much figured it out. I want that game to be 3D and I've realized that the scope is too big (as usual). So I got a lot of advice saying "just do a smaller game, start with 2D".

Everytime I try to do something that is not what I truly want to create, I lose all my drive and willingness to work on it. Doing it just for the money is not appealing to me at all.

So, my question is, should I do what I truly want deep in my soul even tho the game is too big? (it's not an MMO nor the next GTA, but I think the scope is still very big) or should I suck it up and do something that is not exactly what I want to do but is faster and easier? I hear you.

Well, the idea was to use the blueprint system and to gradually learn code in the midst of taking on a stupidly ambitious project. But now the ability to make that initial forward progress to get a foothold whereby I maintain interest is basically gone. My biggest complaint in all of development (not games so much, it just also does apply there) is that faster iteration and the idea of SASS has made it such that becoming an expert on something is borderline impossible because the companies keep changing it out from under you, and are actively incentivized by the business side people to do so.
Some will remember pre-8th console gen you saw how much dev houses improved across the span of a console generation and how much better they got with their tools and the hardware. That doesn't, and for the most part can't happen anymore because nobody understands what they're doing (hyperbole but MOST people don't, and the talent that does are few and far between, and also expensive). And the bigger problem is that because of the level of complexity in today's systems (in games, but all dev) working your way through it to become an expert is nearly impossible unless you've been keeping up with it for a long time already, and the pace it's getting worse is only accelerating. There was a period where the abstraction and ease of use of the tools WAS definitely a benefit, but that was like 10 or 15 years ago.

Unironically if Epic had left UE4 on it's first major release version and only fixed bugs, games would currently be running at least 3x better and look indistinguishable from how they do now if not better.

Yes, now that I tested it I see this is way better than having one "constructor" like in OOP that allocates memory for you. This way it's clear what _init does, it only initializes the properties of the object + it does memory allocations within the object but not for the object itself. This way I could init this object on the stack, pass it to _init and get initialized data on stack which I could then copy to, say, an array of contiguous memory.

I wish I had progress to post but instead I'm only making progress behind the scenes code-wise so I still have the same gameplay I had a month ago. Which is boring, I wonder when I can actually turn this into a game, instead of endlessly refactoring my existing code. Anyway, I know actual voice actors. They have developer friends and usually do other stuff like sound design too. Unfortunately, they WILL mog you at karaoke night. They usually handle several in a cast of characters and let me tell you, they're also the ones who have girlfriends/wives.
I'm sorry to say this but their standard of living is above every other dev type.
If they were actually able to code and make their own game they could make something that hinges heavily on voice acting such as Darkest Dungeon or Stanley Parable, two of the most well-renouned games that don't exhibit amazing gameplay but the voice acting narrative sells the game on its own.

Definitely. Juice can make a good experience great. With or without a fantasy for the player to immerse themselves in, juice will always enhance the experience. A common complaint I've seen about incremental games is the game becoming grindy near the end, with upgrades taking longer. Even if the rate of resource acquisition increases, if the rate of upgrade events is reduced, players get upset. Other than that, people have very low standards for these sorts of games. Meaningful and frequent upgrades, an immersive narrative, and good polish/juice, are all you seem to need.

I did some quick calculations and came up with that my game might require up to 35hours of voice acting in total. not sure if that will ever happen that is a hell of a lot of talking into a microphone but I suppose I could probably do it over a month if a spent a few hours a day, anyway, point is I've done some calcs on how much filesize this will take up. Led me to look into something other than vorbis, I found codec2, opus, amr-nb/amr-wb and something called G.718(B), and also xhe-AAC. From what I can see, xhe-AAC is the best. but it seems complicated to be able to use it at runtime, and Opus is bad below 32kbps, and SHIT below 24kbps. and AMR-NB and G.718 are the best below 24kbps, and codec2 is only good for speaking voice, not very much for sfx, expressions, sighs, or music. So I've been trying to build opus, from source, on windows, on the commandline, as part of my build process. Very much painful, it is all inter-dependant. Vorbis is literally just vorbis+ogg. opus is ogg+opus+opusfile+libopusenc+opus-tools to get an actual encoder... and opusfile doesn't build on windows unless you use cygwin or msys2 because it uses pkg-config.... fuck these guys. I thought I'll just stick with vorbis. But then no, I'll see it through, I will replace their build system with my own, just a simple cc *.c how hard can it be???? FF 3hours and it is working. Now I just have to learn how to make godot load a custom filetype. Also G.718 is super cool by the sounds of it, the files are in 5 "layers" like prog jpg

So, if I am imagining it right, you should in theory be able to store those layers to different parts of the file or even different files and recombine the layers in the frames at runtime to decode, which means you could ship with a LQVox.zip file filled with 12kbps audio, and then while it is playing it could download a MQVox.zip which contains corresponding layers that when loaded boost it to 32kbps audio, without wasting space by having 2 copies. But only minor problem is that I feel like opus directly at 32kbps sounds better than G.718 at 32kbps so there might not be any point. But then I've found that there is a video codec called VVC that can do the same thing for video. But there's no need to go to that so far it seems like everything will be under 1gb total anyway so who cares Still an interesting idea though, so in godot by default all textures import as VRAM compressed, which is big filesize like 1/4 or so of the raw uncompressed space, but it should be possible to change the import type to "Image" and then export .jpg to decode into ImageTexture at runtime. So I'm going to test that next I think, and then find out if godot can decode progressive .jpgs. Using this vorbis encoder https://ao-yumi.github.io/aotuv_web/index.html to set all audio assets to vorbis q -2 is easy, but when all your .png and .jpg turn into VRAM compressed it makes a 40kb jpg a 600kb .stx which is pretty ordinary
