I set out to finish nexus this time but I don't think I'm going to make it. I'm at the fourth shine and the shrine fatigue is setting in hard.
I just got wiped by a random encounter giving me a lucky triple arm bind in one attack and a bloodlust proc waking up the sleeping lion, after i went through 90% of the floor. I don't think if ever seen the game over screen ever throughout the whole series. I don't even enjoy the game anymore. I've just been speedwalking and fast battling everything because I just want to get this shit over with and then this game pulls ridiculous bullshit like this. The idea of having the run through the whole fucking floor again is so off-putting I can't bring myself to it anymore. Truly the worst game.
>>
>>540589016
>I'm at the fourth shine and the shrine fatigue is setting in hard.
Look at it this way... Once you're done with that Shrine, you'll only have two Shrines left! I was so let down by Yggdrasil Labyrinth and the postgame dungeon being shrines but with stone walls instead of forest walls and a purple coat of paint in the latter's case.

I'm really tempted to just pop invisibility and wards to never fight a single mob pack ever again, they're harder than the superbosses

What's your party?
>>
>>540618126
It's a chain duelist party

Shield Bearer
Chain Duelist
Elemancer
Hunting Hound
Divine Herald

my only issue is that sometimes those mob packs decide to either randomly instakill someone in my party or fully CC it. oh and if I get pre-emptively attacked the stupid monkeys clone aoe attacks and kill everyone, I hate them so much
also in general some packs are just agonizingly slow to deal with, like the triple cicada ones
>>
>>540589016
I've done about 2.5 play-throughs of Nexus, I really don't know how you guys hate the shrines that much and I'm starting to think it's getting overblown a little. The main annoyance is that they repeat the same tile set and bgm the entire game but they continue to add new gimmicks. I don't think they're great but I don't really think they're as bad as some of you guys make them out to be. Especially on the first play-through when the game was fresh, they wore on me more on repeated runs. The combat and party building alone puts Nexus high on my list of favorites and I think Nexus really appeals to the fans that like that aspect.
>>
>>540622087
Totally agree with you. I put EO1 on top1 mainly because of nostalgia, but after that it's either Nexus or V for me

>>540625547
It's a toss up. 5's 6th stratum mobs are nastier but 5 also gives the player better ways of dealing with them.

>>540622087
I don't hate them in small doses but they make up 6 of the game's 14 labyrinths and are larger than the others in terms of floor count and floor size with the exception of the very first. I agree that the partybuilding aspect is among the best in the series but EO's just as much about the adventure aspect to me. There's something very exciting about discovering something new and I guess Nexus was always going to fall short there since it's mostly reused and remixed content but it could've done better than 26 floors worth of shrines and a bunch of early game green forests. Still, I put in 3 playthroughs though so it wasn't that much of a dealbreaker for me in the end and it was nice seeing 3 get plenty of love.

It's my 2nd playthrough but I never completely finished the first one so I restarted. Not only are the dungeons asset flips, the enemies are also mostly just recolors. Not that that is unique, but it doesn't help.
Thanks to the elevated walls walking, the floors are also much bigger, and for some reason they were obsessed with using every square in some parts, so you get tons of long, uninteresting paths. It also makes the maps look too crowded and annoying to navigate.
It's just boring and repetitive. And there are just too many of these floors. The shrine bgm alone is driving me insane at this point. Atleast it's not teleporter hell I guess?

Ok, if you want it I can give you a breakdown on Yggs.
>General Information
Yggs are a very good class that's often misunderstood because they work different from the other classes. Unlike other classes that use subclassing to complement their main class, Yggs' main class complements their subclass.
They have the highest HP, highest STR and 2nd highest VIT; while their TEC and AGI is subpar, their LUC is downright terrible and their TP is stuck at 60.

>Strengths and Toolkit
Their main gimmick is binding themselves to passively regenerate TP through Sleep Mode, which heals up to 10TP per bind every turn. This is probably the least impressive part about Yggs and it's mostly just so you don't have to worry about carrying Amritas with you.
The strength of the Ygg lies on their fantastic passives and stats.
Yggs are naturally immune to binds that don't come from their own skills, add to that Virus Scanner 10 (50% ailment resistance) and Yggs are extremely hard to lock down.
Infravision compensates for their subpar AGI by giving them 40% increase to evasion and hit rate at night, making them bulky classes that can also dodge a lot of attacks.
Overheat is an insane passive damage buff and the HP cost isn't nearly as taxing as it seems as long as you have a Hoplite or anyone on healing duty.
Their bots are also surprisingly useful if you're not using the 6th slot in your party. They chase your party's elemental attacks with TEC elemental damage. The bots have the Ygg's stats, so their TEC isn't very high, so to compensate they gave them very high damage numbers (170% TEC damage at level 10) so if you give your Ygg TEC equipment and books the damage can start getting higher.
Lastly, HP Cannon. It's not very good HOWEVER, it's very funny to use against the true final boss.

Untold games are more modern and improved on many issues of the original games. You don't have to play story mode, classic mode exist. Story mode and 3D enemy models would have made the game more appealing to a broader audience, meaning more sales. More sales means we could have gotten NEXT STAGE instead of being stuck here with smelly nerds like you.

I took a look and found the presentation worse in 3's case. I'm just asking if there's anything that really offsets that. 1 got a ton of love, but I don't see much reason to play 3HD over 3DS, which is why I'm asking for the nitty gritty details. What kind of bugs did they fix? What conveniences or balance changes were added? People like to say "oh, HD fixed stuff!" vaguely. Shit, 2HD introduced a soft lock, and if you use the Denuvo-free build for modding purposes you can't fix it and have to play around it.

Here are the pros and cons for 3 HD

Pros:
- The original ds version used most the ds cart memory that was available at the time meaning some content was cut because of this unlike games before it the ds version does not have a unique strat 6 battle theme. In HD they fixed this and even got the Yuzo Koshiro to make the new theme.
https://youtu.be/BTP3gNcw64I
- Improved graphics (in my opinion)
- Fast walk
- Added picnic and basic difficulty (while I always play on Expert cause that is intended difficulty, Picnic is good for grinding)
- Can play on mouse and keyboard
- Full auto mapping as an option
- More mapping icons and tools
- Every class has 1 new model and one new alternative colour for that model, as well as some SMT and Persona DLC models (that I don't use)
- Fixed a bug with Charge and Etheric Charge that would use up the damage boost even if you did not use an attacking skill
- More easily moddable (notable mods include text fix, ygg and shogun early, and liber.......)
- New battle speed options
- Can now assign any portrait to any class
- Can now "change appearance"
- Arguably slightly better translation

Cons
- DRM that is easily removable I managed to even do it on steam deck, but it may be a turn off for some people
- Price is insane I would recommend picking it up during a steam sale or pirating it (RIP if you plan to play on switch)
- Some character models are slightly resigned for the worse (I am pretty sure there is a mod to this)
- Mapping is a lot worse then the DS game. On PC you can use mouse and keyboard which isn't bad at all. Mapping with controller is painful. I have played through this game on steam deck and honestly the steam deck has a really unresponsive touch screen so I had to play with auto mapping on. No input method will beat DS touch screen sadly.

All is up to you both are perfectly valid ways to play.
>>
Which do you get more overall damage from, Berserker Vow+Charge or Singularity+Etheric Charge?
>>
>>540843982
>Some character models are slightly resigned for the worse (I am pretty sure there is a mod to this)
All of the portraits are the same, what are you talking about?
>>
>>540837086
It's the same game, 3HD just adds some newer "QoL" things from the later entries in the series. The only downside is that you can't play it with dual screens+stylus but I thought the controller mapping worked well enough. Some things to note:
>they added full bestiary info in battle so you can see elemental/status/bind resistances along with active buffs/debuffs
>they added a full party buff screen so you can easily see all active buffs/debuffs instead of view it each individually
>each class got one new portrait option (though it's in himukai's modern style so it clashes a bit with his older art)
>multiple save slots were added, making multiple runs easy to manage and also good for rest/respec shenangins
>you can now use any portrait for any class
>the lava in the third stratum looks better overall
>the shop screen is split up into tabs like later entries, making it easier to look through things
>items that are needed for quests are now marked to help prevent you from selling them
>some bugs fixed like Knighthood not working right and the charge skills now being improved to only work on relevant actions
>skill trees are laid out horizontally and are easier to read, like later entries
>skill trees now let you cycle through the skill at each level to see tp costs/info
>you can assign multiple skill points at once instead of one-by-one
>activated shortcuts now appear yellow and opened chests now visually reflect that they've been opened on the map
>difficulty modes have been added, picnic is really just useful for grinding after resting but shouldn't be used to actually play the game normally
>combat speed options and labyrinth move speed options (you walk very slowly in the original DS games)

There might be some more that I'm forgetting but overall 3HD is the best way to play 3 unless you really want dual screens and the stylus on DS.
>>
>>540850174
See, this is good info, thanks.
The QoL is nice, but I'm not sure 3 needed it nearly as much as 1 and 2 did, and I think some of the presentation downgrades are significant. Still chaps my ass that there's no mod to remove the arrows on screen in 3.
>>
>>540851124
There's no presentation downgrades unless the font really bothers you that much. The reworked shop and horizontal skill tree layout are presentation upgrades actually. Same thing with the improved map interactivity. 3 didn't need it as much but all of the above brings it closer to the modern 3DS games and makes it play much smoother in my opinion. I played on Switch though so I didn't have the arrows on screen.

>>
>>540854148
This is still not up-to-date, the origins collection uses all caps. It was only like the left side when they first revealed it but was changed for release.
>>
>>540852865
Like I mentioned earlier, the title screen and Stratum transitions took a big hit. 1 got out unscathed, 2 only got a minor downgrade, but 3 got hit the worst on little details because it had the most of them by far.
>Font
It's pretty bad, to be fair. And it's way more jarring when you're sitting close to your screen (PC) then when you're sitting across the room (console).
>The reworked shop and horizontal skill tree layout are presentation upgrades actually.
I agree with that, but 3 upgraded both interfaces so much that this is more of a slight aesthetic improvement/speed up instead of the huge boon it was for 1 and 2.
>Same thing with the improved map interactivity.
Again, 3 upgraded the map to such a degree that this is a mild "oh, that's nice," rather than a big help.
>I played on Switch though so I didn't have the arrows on screen.
3, for some reason, actually has the mouse arrows fade out after a moment unlike 1 and 2, which I'm really thankful for. It's still really jarring each time you enter a floor and makes the game much less immersive.

From my play experience I really think anyone who has access to a DS should just play the original. The upgrades are very minor (aside from dash, love the dash) and the mood set by the original is important, to me at least. And I'm saying this as someone who thinks the DS release of 2 is worthless now.
>>
>>540854985
The mood is the same though and I think you're being weirdly nitpicky but suit yourself. I never noticed any issues with transitions and the title screen is only something that you see once when you load the game. I played handheld mode in Switch and honestly the font is fine and gets overblown as some big issue when it's extremely minor at most. I don't know why the skill tree and shop improvements are only a huge boon for 1 and 2 when it's a big upgrade for all three title since they all handled shops and skill trees the same way in the original games. The only reason I'd recommend the original 3 over 3hd is for the more fluid mapping via stylus and dual screens but that's it.
>>
>>540856392
>You see once
What, do you do an EO all in one sitting? You're supposed to see it several times and the key visual they chose was extremely important for the game's atmosphere and themes.
>>
>>540856625
Once per session, it's not really a big deal that the title works a little differently due to being on a single screen only. It's more like I can't see how that's a deal-breaker to someone but to each their own I guess.
>>
>>540856392
>I don't know why the skill tree and shop improvements are only a huge boon for 1 and 2 when it's a big upgrade for all three title since they all handled shops and skill trees the same way in the original games.
NTA, but no, not at all.
1 doesn't let you look at your party at all while you're shopping. 3 lets you hot swap between party members with L and R to see what they can equip and how it affects their stats. 1 tells you jack shit about skill trees unless you know to click on grayed out skills to be told what you need. 3 displays prereqs the second you highlight a skill. For 1 and 2, a lot of QoL features were added outright, while most of the changes for 3 are "we made it faster." Which is nice, but definitely not as big or a deal.

Shit, EO1 doesn't have item storage and made you reset *TEN* levels per rest, to say nothing of the broken skills it fixed and how the mapping tool literally wasn't capable of accurately mapping every floor. 1 and 2 didn't even have a key item section for their bag. EO3HD adding an indicator for chests having been opened really isn't comparable. It needed the least work of the three and as such wasn't touched up as heavily.
>>
I don't know about you guys but i'm just a little upset the dog in the Senatus was mostly cropped out due to 3HD's jump to 16:9.
>>
>>540859808
I was talking about the tabs and horizontal layout which none of the original games had. Yes, I already agreed that 3 was the least dated but the organized tabs and modern tree layout was still a very good change for all the games.
>>
Kaishaku.
>>
>>540875436
I mean you said they all handle it the same way, which they don't. And "can not compare in menu at all" to "can easily compare" is a much bigger jump than "can compare" to "can compare a bit faster".

Basically, what you said was a load of bullshit and walking it back now is stupid. C'mon, man.
>>
>>540821559
Do you just screech bait at everything you don't have an argument against? This isn't even a controversial opinion.
>>
I've tried these games a few times, and something that always was a turn-off was I didn't like having to keep shuffling around your party, make new level 1 characters or reset character experience, and have separate teams just to gather resources. But I saw someone talking about the game, and I think it clicked to me, that character experience doesn't matter, that core progression is mostly about getting more money and gear, which means you create your team based around the gear you have and don't care too much about their levels. Is this true?
>>
>>540881428
I don't know what you want from me anon. I was talking about the list type layouts and how they're a presentation upgrade, not the equip/compare stuff.
>>
>>540881808
EO1 is almost entirely character level.
EO3-5 is skills (character level) and gear.
