I'm a long time Sky boomer, in my 30s. I beat the remake. It is notably inferior to the original PC game. It's considerably less balanced from a gameplay perspective,with all the bond abilities making the party overpowered. You get the ability to passively revive any character that gets KO'd. CP generation is also far too easy. The fight against Loewe in Grancel Castle is laughably easy compared to the original game. In addition many problems in the original game such as your arts just coming in a list you have to scroll through every time with no way to sort them. This is somewhat ludicrous given modern Trails games have solved this issue for decades by giving you tabs for offensive and supportive arts, yet the issue persists here. What is the purpose of a remake if not to provide improvements? While there are a few improvements, such as Scherazard, the new Japanese voice cast is inferior to the evolution PSP version. In particular, Joshua and Loewe's Japanese VAs are considerably worse. I didn't play with the English dub, I assume that's awful as are the vast majority of JRPG dubs. Losing the isometric perspective allows you to see things like tetracyclic towers in the distance, which is a really nice touch. Climbing the Rolent tower or looking out over the Ruan bay and seeing the lighthouse was very enjoyable. However all the routes are kinda samey. Erbe Scenic Route in the original game is quite shadowed and has lots of trees, but in the remake it looks like any other grassy route. The character expressions in 3D models are less expressive than the portraits in the original game. Joshua's reaction to Alba reveal at the end of the game is a good example of this. For some reason Loewe's white hair is visible from under his helmet as Lorence, which completely spoils the reveal that he is the white haired man who saves the orphanage and watches the play. Anyway I loved it. It's still Trails in the Sky.
