Learn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

Kenshi lacks tubers, maize or any kind of fruit. It doesn't have to be potatoes and corn, it could be ash yams or whatever. Vine fruit is probably best, strawberries or melons or something like that. Orchards are a little fancy. Each can come with a corresponding alcohol; Vodka for tubers, Tequila for maize, wine for fruits, I'd change the name of those first two for immersion. Okra could grow on the moon, but I don't know what you'd do with it or how to meaningfully distinguish it from green fruit, growing in arid I guess. Same for aloe, it could grow in arid but I'm not sure what role it would serve.

They are good, but the only way to train precision shooting is to hit your own guys. Grab the shittiest Junkbow you can to train so any damage you will take is minimal. The stagger will be really annoying, but there's nothing to be done about that. Once they git gud you can upgrade their bows, until then think of it as training their crossbowmanship and everyone else's toughness at the same time. Do not give someone with low precision a big bad bow, they will kill your melee guys. I tend to train one bowman at a time to avoid a mass friendly fire incident.
If you don't want to train precision Green in the swamp starts out with excellent bow skills.

who made them, the UC or second empire? why can't you make a 'cat crafting station' where laborers spend all day clipping coins out of iron plates? it doesn't look like special graded metal or anything, your average mouthbreather wouldn't know the difference in a counterfeit. I haven't seen any sort of minting facility in the UC, they have a bank in trader's edge but it's more storage than anything... is there anything in the ports or stone camps? It seems strange that there are so many culturally/geographically different groups but everyone agrees on one standardized currency, especially when the UC's whole deal are being vampires who manipulate their economic leverage ruthlessly... their money should mean nothing in the HN

Cats likely come from the Second Empire since it appears they're named after Cat-lon, there's no other reason they would be called cats after all. Since every faction in game descends from the Second Empire splitting apart, they all kept cats as their currency.

Probably not. Factions still trade between each other. The Trader's Guild is working with everybody, the Phoenix actually doesn't appreciate it if you bring him Longen. Everyone might just use cats for convenience, and anyone trying to counterfeit gets punished hard, if it's even possible to counterfeit. Maybe the Second Empire produced every cat there will ever be and no more is made now, the cat printers are all gone. It's not like the world of Kenshi experiences enough population growth to notice and most of the world is broke.

Cats aren't MONEY they're CREDITS. They (were) digitally connected to the colonial management system and are the way in which the satellite network engaged with regional-local-specific interactions. This is also why the area is wholly centralized around the island. The satellites are in geostationary lock and can only see & interact with what's below them. Much of the network is destroyed but the signals can still reach the surface (just look at the mining lasers running).

Yeah because that era is gone. Anyone could recreate WoW nowadays - private servers are a couple years away from a total rewrite of vanilla to push the legal Ship of Theseus to the brink. You will never get 2004 WoW again because it already happened, the people grew up and the culture changed. The all-star devs from Blizzard moved on and the industry in general has lowered the barrier to entry and shifted priorities so significantly it's barely reminiscent of the 2000s landscape and looks nothing like pre-online distributors. Steam & early access means there's no going back to that world.

As the other anon said, bordeom and lack of goals left. This happens to a lot of pause-progress explore and grow type games. Stellaris throws mid game and late game crises at the galaxy to try and keep things going. Eventually you've achieved the campaign goals, researched everything relevant, beaten your major foes and can purchase anything you desire. Kenshi runs out of steam in the mid game and has no true late game written in. It could, but it does not, because Chris was generally satisfied with the scratching the surface approach.

Paradox games already do this. Rigid map, bounded possibilities. Chapters can be set to a net timeline so you can enter at various stages of set progression. My theory was to use what exists and go further. Cannibals can slow roll into a wider takeover of the north. If all else fails and nothing changes they prod at the defenses until able to capture locations such as World's End. In the case of a HN or UC collapse / retreat from Bast the opportunity then presents itself for a faction group like the Cannibals to opportunistically aggressively expand into the void and emplace themselves for potential further gains.

Scenarios can chain until you reach outcomes such as the Cannibals marching down behind Flotsam and consuming their gains right up to Blister Hill if there's no serious effort made or available by the UC to assert control over the region. It's one thing after another.

I'm a particularly big proponent of transforming & multiplying bandit factions if they find too little pushback and too much success. Reactive World explores the case in which the Dust Bandits splinter into multiple factions. All the same a "thriving" Dust Bandits could undergo a split into two powerful bandit factions if say they manage to capitalize upon a breakdown of order in the southern HN. One group aligns with the slavers emanating from the UC hungry to capture the mines - the other side prefers to maintain their ability to freely & independently harass and extort the locals.

Sometimes, but once I got attacked by Lady Tsugi and she chased me a fair bit away from brink. I knocked her out and picked her up, then released her. She returned to the reaver version of brink and stood there aimlessly watching the ruins of her city. I try not to take chances because of it.

I's hard to put into words. I think the game is very balanced in the early game because it's actually hard to progress, but once you hit the mid game that balance is gone. Even without a base, it's just too easy to make money and buy things. And when you have bigger squads or multiple smaller squads, the game changes completely.

Nah I get you honestly, but when things are like that it's up to you to balance your experience. I stopped my first playthrough because I trained a lot of my guys to 90 toughness and we were shredding anything we came across. So this time I only trained strength because it's the only stat that doesn't level naturally in a sensible way. I did sell too many heart protectors though, if I do another playthrough I think I won't sell crafts, at least not higher than certain quality.
Another issue is companion bloat, but I've limited myself to only uniques this time, and some slaves for base labor only (not trained, not well equipped, just background NPC).

As for base building, I don't do double gates or water gates, and I've had a few exciting raids as a result. I'm gonna move somewhere more dangerous soon.

Kenshi's problem is growth is exponential rather than linear. Things spiral pretty crazy as your characters get stronger and you have more money or skills to get top tier gear. This wouldn't be so bad if enemies were stronger, but only a handle of factions are really that challenging in the endgame.

Reactive World doesn't explore Holy Nation expansionism. It instead does the opposite and pad outs the collapse of the HN into a sequence which resolves to hunting down the last remnants of the HN. It also splits up all the Cannibal tribes so there's more iteration to taking them down. Started some ideas, didn't quite weave them in everywhere. A HN-allied run in Reactive is kinda non-ideal.

They always say Rebirth is cum spraying up from the penis (Okran's Valley) but I think it's supposed to be more of a distended stomach that contains Okran's Children: sinners are rebirthed there into dutiful laborers. Penis head clearly points down anyway. The ashen limestone all over Rebirth misleads people, especially when they see a stark white landscape above Okran's Valley on the map.
