Probably because it involves essentially finding every single nook and cranny of the game. There's a lot of enemies that are hidden, and many require backtracking to a spot because you didn't have the thing (Silk Soar being a big one) and of course you wouldn't be looking for spots to use an ability you don't have when you're first going through an area.

A question here to the lore anons: if all the other civs in Pharloom ganged up on the citadel (Verdania, Karaks, ants, whatever the fuck was Shellwood, the wisp cultists and the stilkin) would they win? The citadel is at full power except for the weaver's. Personally I think they all together would have had a good shot at it, though GMS might just stomp them. Though the fire guys were building a flame god, and Verdania had the Pale Stag.

Even without Silk I still think the citadel can at least take some of them down though, and that's due to them being able to just use the dead to fuel their machines. I reckon a few sentinels, Lace and one or two grand reeds could do quite the damage. Though a siege could still be held, simply because the Citadel's supply routes seem really shit. The other armies just need to hold the blasted steps, because the stilkimg already can hold the other route. (I think Groal and a small group of his tribe could possibly kill Phantom, while also destroying the Exhaust Organ).

The answer to these seems to be so tightly entangled as to be the same: Desperation to be "A Mother" despite being ordinarily sterile with a really horribly controlling sense of "motherhood".

Timeline wise I think the Karak civilization died out way before the rise of Pharloom.
My personal headcanon is that the Karak civilization had its own 'awakening', that through the influence of some greater being they were also elevated to a higher state of consciousness, instead of silk it was the Crust/Coral. Khan might've been the equivalent of the Pale King to pre-GMS Pharloom. But then something happened and their age came to an end, possibly all the water dried up, Khan couldn't stop it so he sealed himself up in his tower with his soldiers and left the Watcher on guard in case life returned to Karak.
In the mean time after Khan's death what life remained in Karak/Pharloom reverted back to being mindless bugs, notably some of them being the Pharlids. Khan's mask has almost the same shape as a Pharlid, and we know those Pharlids eventually turned into Weavers. Might've just been a coincidence in the character design but crustaceans and arachnids happen to share a very very distant ancestry. So Karak might have been the main civ before Pharloom.

Just finished replaying HK and what is it with Team Cherry and BS final bosses.

Both Radiance and LL are too RNG heavy, Radiance is basically bullshit until you look up somewhere that you can desolate dive spam through the bad RNG on her attacks. And that's a hidden tech not explained anywhere in the game!

Only got hit twice on my winning attempt. Once in phase 2, and another hit during the climb because I got cocky. The charms were strength, heart, shaman, lifeblood core.

You say it like HK is worse than Silksong in the terms of runback, but in HK you can disregard any runback and literally TELEPORT straight to the boss. In Silksong you can only teleport to bellway station, not to arbitrary locations.

GMS is the God of SIlk, the Radiance is the God of Light/Essence, the Nightmare Heart is the God of Nightmares.
Wyrms and Roots are higher beings but they don't have a specific association and as such, have the freedom to do what they want.

In Silk Song tries to be harder by artificial means, 2 mask damage, runbacks, contact damage, adds spam, and attacks that are barely telegraphed, all of this largely result in battles that need to be retried, the core gameplay loop becomes retrying a boss until the rng attack pattern favors you, or until your muscle memory gets you through, none of the bosses in Silk Song hit the soft spot that the mantis boss did, and therefore the game becomes a dull exercise of repetition until you get through. HK was accidental genius, and SilkSong proves that Team Cherry has no idea what they are doing. I'm sorry, but that's the cold hard truth.

Continuing my rambling, the tools are another thing that bothers me, there is a reason why "you did not beat the game" became a meme. The devs noticed the game was too hard due to bullshit mechanics and so they gave the player quite literally their own bullshit to respond with, in the form of tools, but most of the time it feels like a cheap way out of a fight, which result in players using them as a last resort, after they get bored of retrying the same boss, or get worn out from the runbacks. This, again, contradicts the concept of learning the enemy patterns on the go and be able to react on time, like it happened with the mantis battle.

1) You just used your needle. You did not use Red Tools, Silk Skills, Clawline, did not change your crest: you stupidly brute-forced the fight. Likely because you don't have enough attention span to attack with more than one button. You did not prepare. Out of character for Hornet. Not intended way to fight.
2) You used everything in your arsenal. You customized crest and red/blue/yellow tools, crest and silk skills for this specific fight. Intended way to fight.
3) You camped somewhere in the corner near the ceiling, untouchable, and bombed the boss with bombs'n'stuff. You cheesed the fight. Would not happen if Silksong was real. Not intended way to fight. Would be patched in the next patch.

I really didn’t have that much trouble with any of the bosses or the tool crafting system and I’m not a god at metroidvanias either. I’m more of a pvp game player, so I’m used to truly playing against “human reaction time” level opponents. I can tell you with a great deal of certainty that none of the bosses in SS have any moves that exceed the human ability to react.

If that's so, then that highlights yet another issue that I see in SilkSong, pretty much all of the changes that I perceive to bad design stem from the Dev's idea of what the MC should be like, which, in turn, stem from "taking itself too seriously", I need to explain this part, there is a certain free spirit that permeates Hollo Knight 1, like, you can tell it was a game done on the fly, with multiple changes, like an experiment were they left in the things they liked the most, but there is something silly, non serious about it also, the way the mc moves, almost like a puppet controlled by strings, the inclusion of comedy characters like Zote. This non attached attitude permeated the aura of the game, it's like the devs achieved zen mode and flow state in real life and the game came flawless by intuition.
Then comes Silksong, all this focus on what was once side character, now turned MC creates expectations, and to not betray said expectations, the devs now take everything serious, the game HAS to be hard because that's what the character is about. The game HAS to have tools because that is what the character is about, despite the silk skills being virtually a good enough substitution to the knight's skills, etc. Fastforward 7 years and we get the bloated overdesigned mess that is SilkSong. I'm sorry, but this is the cold hard truth.

Normal Radiance was definitely harder than LL, but that might be because of runback consisting of defeating a freakin' end-game boss.
I definitely struggled more in Silksong in early game than I struggled in HK early game. I'm taling about literal hours of re-attempts of the same boss/gauntlet. But Silksong in late-game was pretty easy, HK late-game got hard again after easier midgame. But other Anons seems like struggling in late-game Silksong, so that might be just a me thing, I dunno.
I never defeated Absolute Radiance because I fuckin' hate no-save boss-rush, so I can't comment on that.
