Good lord what a dead thread. This game really is on its deathbed. I started a new steam profile for this game and shared it with myself to just start fresh. It's breathed a lot of new life into the game for me and if you're feeling burnt out I recommend you do the same. It's a surprising amount of fun to start over, if a prestige mode was your thing in other online games.

Mega cities in general are such a wet fart. There's nothing really "urban combat" about them besides just being a bunch of lanes, and the presence of SEAF and civvies means that enemy spawns are much lower, easily funneled, and overall just less engaging.You get a way more fun "urban combat" experience in fucking colonies, because at least they feature interesting plazas, traversable rooftops, and hell it probably wouldn't be hard to make it so you could fight inside each building as well. It's weird. If you take player numbers and scale it to the size of a city or a town, the liberation rates actually make way more sense. 25,000 Helldivers dropping on a town of fully entrenched bots SHOULD and ARE taking the whole thing in a matter of hours. I could see, with those numbers, taking an entire city in a day or so. It just gets weird when you try to scale it up to an entire planet, and maybe that's where swedish autism kicks in. 60,000 troops cannot take an entire planet in a day, no fuckin way doesn't matter. It's actually unrealistic that we would take it in a month. Maybe that's why Joel is being such a fizzled bitch about the whole thing. We definitely need better representation of a planet's enemy resistance. Regions on each planet should have light, medium, and heavy resistance, and some planets should have more regions/more overall troops than others. That way we could actually see if a planet was sparsely populated and easy to take back, or if the enemy has built up heavy defenses and turned it into a fortress world. High command should also respond appropriately and send SEAF battalions, free stratagems, more reinforcements, etc. to Major Order areas that they're trying to take. Helldivers should be able to dive behind enemy front lines and actually DO what we're supposedly doing in the first place; destroying backline infrastructure that's too hot and contested to send SEAF into, so we can fuck shit up and allow the front lines to push. Alternatively, we should also be able to reinforce the line if SEAF are being overrun, with unique missions involving relatively small maps but high entity count, with us working together with friendly forces, call ins, etc to hold the line. Both of these could be plausible ways of lowering overall planet resistance and liberating a planet quicker the longer we fight on it instead of the retarded numbers game we have right now.

I think the shrapnel is also supposed to fly away from the surface hit so against a spherical chicken in a vacuum all of them will miss. However because of this shooting at the ground is a better option for the eruptor than the crossbow because the shrapnel will go up into the target. Ideal use case is to shoot the biggest guy in the crowd with the eruptor and kill all the little guys with the explosion and shrapnel in one shot. Crossbow is far faster though so in a real combat situation where you have errors, it's a lot more forgiving.>tl;dr eruptor wins

However this applies only if you need to constantly read dozens of files that are scattered all over the disk on the fly. So you wont get any significant performance saving from, say, duplicating map assets to be after each faction data because those will only by read once during map load. Guess what Arrowhead did? Duplicated fucking everything. Theres around 100GB of duplicates and 30GB of original files.
