In fact in the weird tech bottleneck where lot of these space empire builders reside in where space travel is easy and the biological and chemical problems of settling new worlds are trivial but straight up terraforming is difficult, it would be fairly obvious that our galaxy would have several worlds that would be "gaia" in the sense that they would be better than Earth for humans. Something like 80% land with shallow overall elevation difference, lots shallow seas and lakes everywhere to maintain moisture and temperature balance, largest seas concentrated on the poles and equator where waste areas would otherwise be, some orbital, axial tilt and spin adjustments to stabilize and boost the temperate regions more etc.

>>541415061Every time I play Aurora I just go overboard designing land military hierarchies and medals and shit then get bored after 12 hours of autism.
So. Darfall. Where to start...Hey hey people, your favourite spiderfag here.Today I'm going to ignore my hand fracture and crippling pain to deliver a dump about a game that defies all explanations, Darfall.Without further delay, let's skip the campaign and jump in survival mode. The survival mode has its own worldmap, which you progress in by surviving more and more maps.
>>541427029how'd you break your hand dumbass
Upon picking a map, you get a pick an hero. You have a choice between a wizard who can cast fireballs and hex goyims, a "slayer" (approx translation) who has a big axe, a nasty temper and seem to be a melee-focused hero, a beastmaster who probably takes it up the ass and can master beasts, an engineer who can supposely boost workers (more on that later), and a paladin who heals, hits things with his hammer, and leaves Arthas to purge Stratholme without offering to help and then blame Arthas for purging Stratholme.
>bla bla bla build during day, face undead at nightSo far, the lore of Darfall is straightforward: the Demon King rose, and mankind fought him.And they lost lmao, so the game is about reconquering the world, one ruined city at a time. At night, grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize, and you need to inflict unspeakable violence to convince them to leave you alone. After a few nights, undead get shoved out of the way as demons come in to murder, rape, pillage, rape, kill and rape. Defeat the demon invasion, and you win. Lose, and you get forced to dress in programming socks and you get your ass raped for eternity by hot demonic twinks.>>541427165I slipped and hand went into the wall at full speed.
As you can see, I have four days to prepare for Slaanesh coming out of the Immaterium to make me a slut. However, as the tutorial helpfully explain, if I dominate the map, I can, instead of waiting, seek the demon gates, and attempt to destroy them before the Mask comes out to play. Doing so ends the map early, and gives a lot of points. I dunno what points do desu famalamcoricofalappatorius but they gotta be good for something, like showing off to your friend that you're good at something.
So, Darfall. If you played any TAB-like, you know how it works : you have a fort, the fort heals whomstever is close, and if you lose the fort, then you're exiled out of the city by the people, doomed to die while they scavenge for coal. Or something, I dunno. The thing unique to Darfall is that workers are a fairly rare commodity: to recruit a worker, you need food (grown or harvested in various ways, but oddly enough, NOT from wheat farms), and "mana orbs" who are essentially monster hearts that your hero carve out with a rusty, dull spoon. Preferably while the monster is screaming in utter agony.Even oddlier than before, workers aren't required for most buildings, they are "just" harvester. The refining, building and crafting is done by invisible hands, only the overworld harvest requires a physical worker.
Now for the really annoying (or awesome, it depends) part: the hero that you pick can, (and honestly should) help with the harvesthing. That is to say, your hero can gather ressources at a really fast pace, in a burst, and can help you out of a pinch. To give you an idea of how strong heroes are:- they can harvest 3, maybe 4 time in a row before getting too tired to keep working,- a single harvest gets them around 14 lumber, that they carry until they can drop it at a depot or at the castle, and they have an inventory with nine spaces. In comparaison, a normal worker only brings 3 lumber per trip, and you need 30 lumber for a basic building, and 5 lumbers to make one plank, so it get expensive really quickly. Also heroes recover energy over time, so they harvest, fight, explore, heal, harvest some more...
And of course, the hero can level up and upgrade his equipement with scavenged stuff.Later, I found a mediocre hero sword that I recycled, which gave me one iron ingot, which I then was able to maxe into an axe to make an unit. But the hero isn't that strong, and he can still get overwhelmed and killed. Not to mention that the most he get wounded, the longer he must stay near the castle to heal, and this is time lost.
Well, maybe saying the hero is an useless wastrel and a spoony good-for-nothing maid-shagger when he's not working his ass off is a bit unfair: he does motivate workers by standing close, probably glaring daggers at them and explaining what happens to people not meeting the quotas. They get a +50% speed boost when he's nearby, which is pretty nice. But not worth letting his sit on his hands.
As you can expect, you need food to hire units, but you must also pay an upkeep: the more workers you have, the more food they consume, the ravenous beasts.Luckily, they know their place and only eat once a day. Sadly, they are unionized, and thus will refuse to work as fast if they're not fed, and apparently torturing one to set an example is "not very haram", so we can't.Bunch of softies, I swear...Amusingly enough, as I said earlier, the basic farm is a "maraîcher" farm, which would translate as... a vegetable farm. You can set up a wheat farm later, but oddly enough, bread (made at the bakery with wheat, thank fuck you don't have to build a windmill and a well) only makes peasants happier but doesn't feed them.
Of course, you can also hunt animals with your hero. Monsters like orcs won't drop edible food, but bears and mooses will.Anyway, the first night is upon us.And, again, if you played TAB, this is familiar: darkness falls across the land, and only lights can keep it at bay. Which is another problem entirely: lamps consume charcoal to operate, which forces you to build a charcoal maker, and of course drains your lumber. On the bright side, lamps extend your building range, allowing you more space to grow and set up defense. Also, a word of warning: monsters in this game will ignore walls, so They Are Billions' strategy of putting "scratching posts" of a single case wooden wall won't work.
For the first night, there's not much to say: I'm getting warned that workers are less efficient in darkness and warriors are weaker, but the hero seem fine, so it becomes a game of whack-a-mole where undead will attempt to attack my workers or my buildings, and my hero goes and kills them.Interestingly, when they're attacked, workers will immediately run to the closest house and lock the door, meaning that getting attacked will "only" pause their work until the zone is cleared, but I expect to lose workers once the attacks get serious.I took a bunch of screenshots here, but they don't really bear mention, I'll skip over them.
Oh yeah, I forgot: heroes can level up. They can buy skills, and perks.Skills are tied to A and E (or Q and E if you're an abhuman monsters using an inferior keyboard), and are essentially just "smack that monster in the gonads to make him cry, which ignores armor and make everyone laugh at him". They aren't targeted: you activate your skill, and it reinforces the hero's next automatic attack, before a cooldown starts. The perks are more passive stuff, like "+10% HP", or "can work twice as fast", or "20% chances to get double the ressources", or "can mine iron".
Posting this night screenshot because it introduces two things that I might've forgotten to bring up otherwise. As per my previous post, you get mana orb by using American diplomacy on the hapless monsters dumb enough to hoard oil, but you can also steal bones from the cemetary, and desecrate them at your unholy alter to create mana orbs, no doubt trapping some poor smuck's soul in constant agony for eternity. The other interesting part is that you can order automatic production as soon as you get the corresponding building. Otherwise, crafting advanced ressources is like training an unit: you click on the thing, a bar fills, and once it's filled, you get the thing. Oddly enough the opposite also works, and you can order automating production of basic ressources. In that case, the game will halt all production until the minimum stock is reached.Which can be handy since buildings are costly, so I suggest putting a minimal lumber stockpile at 50, at least.
The fun part of this game is that while demons want mankind wiped and they use undead as minions, you still have to fight other fantasy races to make Lord Garithos proud and ensure mankind's hegemony by fighting other races such as orcs, ratmen, and democrats. All monsters undeserving of empathy, they're only good with death!Case in point, there's a minor orc camp covering iron that is needed to craft swords.
>hmm lets try voide-forged machine again haven't played that in a while>inital habita has zero generator districts>-50 energy right from the startnice game paradogs
The first barracks are done, made with planks and chiseled stones. Which makes it fairly expensive, and only allow the recruiting of five units.I settle on three archers, one priest (which I regret later, priests only heals 20 HP, and they have 300 to give you an idea, are ranged, and the casting is pretty long) and a lancer, a very cheap unit. I managedto make archers so easily because the carpentry workshop that made planks also allowed me to craft bows, at the insane cost of 5 planks per bow.THE WAR MACHINE DEMANDS WOOD.In comparasion, the lancer doesn't require any crafting to be made, but they die easily.
>steve coming back from this motorhome trip and uploading aurora 2.7 patch waiting room
>>541431679Thank god you can actually play the game without any game breaking bugs..
Taking a lot of timeskips here, but I see people are waking up so I'll wrap it.I added a ballista, you can see it here. It looks like it needs to be manned, but this is untrue, ballistas will automatically fire upon nearby enemies, and they don't count toward the units cap, so you can spam them freely. Which you should do to be honest, because your army is really small and I expect to get overwhelmed when "real" fights start.
>>541427578>I slipped and hand went into the wall at full speed.ouchies, poor spidey. how will you stimulate your prostate now
Remember earlier when I talked about recycling? Without having any iron mine, I got to hire this guy by recycling a sword, craft a handle, and use both to make an axe.Darfall relies a LOT on supply chains.>>541432175I never used my fingers for that. If I could post a picture, you'd get it...

Have heard some people saying that they would like an aztec phanteon into age of mytholog.that is nice and all, i guess they can take some stuff from the AoE 2 and 3 aztecs, but Im just thinking about the Favor generation.having a way to generate some favor with people dancing is fine, but would be interesting if you could sacrifice a villager to get some favor boost or multiplier.also could be some mechanic that if you kill a human unit, instad of dying it gives you a prisioner, which you can use for sacrifice instead of using your own villagers.or such idea is "stereotype and historically wrong" for our current era?

>bla bla bla orc incursion and desecration of an empty tomb bla bla LET'S WASTE 'EMAlso anyone finds it weird that the desecration of something sacred is a desecration and not a desacredion?
Oh okay. So, Darfall has an unique armor system, in that you either have armor, or you don't. It's not explained how good armor is, but magical attacks and some special attacks (cough cough firearms) can ignore armor. It's not a degree of AP like in Warhammer Total War, it's all or nothing: archers arrows will deal a lot less damage (because Captain Uther here also has a shield), but bullets will go through.
>free some dude hanging in a cage>he goes to a scout, suits his armor, and becomes a lancer>then later dons his grandfather heavy plate armor and sword, and becomes as stronger as Captain Thorn, the dedicated tank
>"Thanks for letting me join you. I don't have anyone anymore."You know, if I trusted this game's writing, this could be a promising start to a very good story: our main character, the archmage what's-his-face, is heavily wracked by guilt because, before he became a mage himself, he fucked up defending actual, "real" mages, and feels bad about failing his duty, and here you have the simple-minded Captain Thorn, who is a simple mind: see orc, kill orc, see demon, kill demon. And then there's Bram, who heard the call, and stepped up to answer it, if too late to defend his own family.

I'm fairly new to 4x games. I've found in some games, within the first 100-200 turns you end up just passing a ton of turns waiting for units to move or stuff being built. Is this right? I feel like I should be doing something every turn but there's only so much stuff you can queue up and I feel like filling your queues to the max could be detremential if something changes.
>>541698064Depends on the game, but usually by mid- to late-game that's usually how it goes.Especially if you are just building up your forces to attack someone and know you can't do that just yet.
>>541698064Depends on the game but its natural when you have small amount of units/towns/planets to not have much to do at first. Its not unusual for Aurora pre tn starts to just ffwd like 50-60 years at first researching all the techs that allow colonization, it happens in Civ games, it happens in MoO2 etc.
Generally speaking how does the ai deal with devouring swarm empires? I’m playing as pacifist void dwellers and my neighbor is a devouring swarm, I have enough fleets and defenses built and have a defense pact with my neighbor which seems to keep them at bay, but they’re gaining an enormous amount of territory and I feel like after enough time they’re going to grow strong enough to destroy everything while the other empires shit themselves and die. Also I picked chosen of the cradle so any hostile action against the swarm is gonna fuck up my attunement hard

I just installed ARA today and I've been having fun, with what little I played. The tutorial is actually really fluid and integrated into the game instead of being obnoxious and forcing you to click 600 different buttons before you can even look around the map. Honestly I can't tell if Chinese are OP or utter shit in AoM. They get favour based on how much land they cover with buildings linked to their forums, kinda like in Perimeter, which essentially force them to expand. But also free a lot of peasants to gather other stuff.
I was planning on posting images like these for the roster poll but since /civ4xg/ is playing in a tournament over the next 2 weekends and shit is due in a little over 48 hours I figured I'd show you all what the current state of the /civ4xg/ kits are. The outfielder kits are unchanged since like 2017 or in the case of the 3rd kit, whenever /xcg/ died the first time; the first goalkeeper kit is also original and a variant of the Morgan Industries outfielder kit. The away and third GK kits are new since by default PES doesn't allow multiple GK kits but I used some of the VGL aesthetics tricks to unlock these alternative slots. I have some preliminary ideas for the away and 3rd GK kits, not that they need to be anything according to the rules but I figured I'd give the team a bit of variation for these kits. Let me know your thoughts if I should change them or get rid of them.

Getting back into SC4 after a long break. Last time I played was in 2013, and back then I remember thinking how funny it was that I was playing a 10 year old citybuilder instead of something more modern. Now it's 22 years old. C:S just can't compare (and don't even get me started on the dumpsterfire that is C:S2).This shit still crashes every hour or so. I have to play it in a 1080p window (just went 4k for screenshots) and even then it'll only boot to game 50% of the time. Still put about 20 hours into it this week. The aesthetic is still unmatched for city games.

Fuck me I love how the non-protoss look in Five Nations. Through I'm getting heavy Thousand Sons vibes too.
Okay, the discount Protoss have top aesthetics and SOVL but they're hard to play. Unlike the human, they can't rush carriers, thought their bombers are cheaper to unlock. They also rely a lot on shield and defense (they can make a shield generator that lowers all shield damage by 33%, but once the shield is broken, they're fucked). They do have an easier time repairing (T1 repair ship compared ot human's T2), but they need more healers, because their repair use up a LOT of energy, 50E to heal 50HP, so until you get carriers, keep your fighters/bombers well away from your repair ships. Finally, a lot, if not all of their ships can use a weird sprint-like ability that uses energy over time.Really, I'm getting big Protoss vibes from their look, but gameplay-wise, they feel like Eldars. And they also have a really weird ship: it can be upgraded to be invisible, and stay invisible while attacking, but it needs to deploy to attack. Once deployed, though, it damages ALL enemies in range. Oh, it does shit damage, like 2 dmg/tick, but it adds up, and it adds up, and I assume that you can make several of them to wipe out fighters spam.

/civ4xg/ will be competing in the New Thread Cup 4 invitational over the next two weekends. This invitational is tailored towards new managers so everyone here is basically new including myself so expect some live-managing spaghetti and otherwise poor management and team building decisions. We're in group B with the matchups in pic related (all times in UTC) with the matches streamed at the usual /vg/ league cytube. If all goes well, we'll also be in the playoff round on the 19th which will start at 17:00 UTC as usual. The wiki page for the invitational is here https://implyingrigged.info/wiki/New_Thread_Cup_4 and the team wiki page is here https://implyingrigged.info/wiki//civ4xg/. I'll post a reminder and stream link when we're about to play since match times are estimates and depend on how long the prior games last. After this it will be about a month until /civ4xg/ plays in VGL25 but you'll hear from me way before then for the roster poll and any other team suggestions.

Which stellaris warp god is the strongest anyway?
I've gotten interested in stellaris after not playing it for years and it saddens me to see you still can't breed the aliens into submissionI expected xeno-compability to be its own ascension path by now, and through which you could get dominant genes and fuck all the xenos into being human in a couple of generations
cities should be built not destroyed
I'm liking Shrouds of the Shadows; well worth the pirate; however my issue with it seems like you HAVE to interact with the Shroud regardless of what playthrough you're doing.Which would be fine, if every ascension path was as involved.

Why the fuck can you disable your ships from entering a system, but only if it's not an owned one? Disable icon just doesn't exist for owned systems and now ships keep pathing into the L-gates while the grays are camping there
>>541982812Weeeeeeell if you install a certain mod, there's a trait that removes a pop in place of your own when pop growth's calculated. With xeno-compatibility it hastens that too i think

>>542016340Unironically Rome 2 Charlemagne/Belisarius expansion
>>542022350The game hasn't been modded, but the ruleset used for 4CC/VGL combined with the fact we have the AI play PES instead of humans controlling the players means most advice online doesn't apply. I've got a fair amount of experience making tactics and testing which is extremely helpful, just the snap decision making during a match while under pressure is something I need to practice.
>>542023782I see our team is in good hands anon. You'll do fine.
Is it true fleets with mixed ship sizes in Stellaris don't work properly? Heard someone saying if you have like corvettes and battleships they won't both engage at the same time. Is it better to just run different configurations of the same ship, IE mainly artillery battleships with a couple carriers to defend against corvettes? Also, is there a way to make multiple fleets jump/stick together? Tired of one jumping first and getting into combat before the others arrive in system
>>542027812>Also, is there a way to make multiple fleets jump/stick together?Order every fleet to follow the slowest fleet and then order that one to move
Thoughts on the tankbound civic?
After coming back trying out stellaris, i noticed my colonies are not growing for shit, and after some reading it's supposed to be, that pops grow best when the planet is "half full".But after messing around, when it's half full, as in, pop is around half the planet capacity, it's not growing for jack shit. And you are supposed to have civilians, who appear when there are no more jobs, but that will never come since there are still literal thousands of jobs and housing, that will NEVER fill.So how the fuck does this work?
>>542027812>Is it true fleets with mixed ship sizes in Stellaris don't work properly?Only matters if you play with cheat mods or very hard difficulties where cheesing is necessary. >Heard someone saying if you have like corvettes and battleships they won't both engage at the same time. This is true and there's no real way around it. You can use different hulls if you use same range weapons but that usually means you have to use small and shitty weapons on the big ships and big and shitty weapons on the small ships.
>>542029123>6 pops per monthThis is pretty normal pop growth for a generic empire. Make sure you have the rapid breeders trait, go with the expansion tradition, build clinics, research clone vats as soon as you get an opportunity and you’ll have a bit better growth
