At some point you have to put your faith in whatever makes the most sense to you. Most people don't have the time, will, or insanity to learn such a stupid frivolous skill. Trannylations and AI do enough to limp you through and get the idea of what's going on. I'm not fucking learning Japanese. No one is. No one except insane people willing to hamster wheel through it and/or really smart people with a high IQ in this particular way.

Mature DSi emulation with an app installer. Doesn't have various core emulation bugs found in DeSmuMe. Anyone play Super Smash Bros Ultimate on Ryubing? Everything has been working correct except for the timed activites in World of Light. When you send spirits into explore for example it should count down the 2 hours even if you aren't actively playing it. I have emulator set to match my system time, but everytime I close out of the emu and reboot it the timer resets to 2 hours. I tested it out in Eden by copying my save over and it reflected that time had passed by. Is this just something that doesn't work with Ryubing?

I tried the latest build yesterday for 2 minutes and I immediately went back to the one I was using before (0.0.32-16555 from May 31).
In my case, it's because Tales of Xillia freezes when PPU Thread Count is set to 1 on the latest versions, and on my rig, having to set it to 2 or higher makes the game run worse.
Not to mention it has this issue where the audio sometimes cuts off and you have to move to a different map if you want to have music again. It happens in battles too, which hinders the experience.

I want to play the two Alone in the Dark games I saw in
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FfcaBOX0XA
But reading the wiki article, it seems they were released both for PC and PS1.
What I want to know is which version should I play.
The question might be obviously PC since emulation adds a layer, but maybe since the game is very old there would be too much compatibility issues with modern systems.
That's why I'm asking. Maybe you guys know.
>>
>>541399734
>AITD2
Any PC version AITD2 you play will have a layer of emulation because you can't just run DOS games raw on a modern PC even with wrappers. Both DOS and PS1 are solidly emulated these days, so take your pick between how they look and sound. You may find the PS1 version's streamlined controls to be to your liking. It's not a looker on any machine, anyway. It also kind of sucks
>The New Nightmare
Consider the Dreamcast version over the PS1 release -- it has the game's intended dynamic shadows and higher res assets. There's a GOG release of the PC version that should justwerk. Probably includes DGvoodoo and a patch or two. Again, you may find the controls (and exclusive rumble) in the DC version to be the way to go. They both look about the same and DC emulation's pretty decent via Flycast.

>Directx11
>GTX 970m 3GiB
>hybrid übershaders
>3x Native
>4x MSAA
>16x Anisotropic
>Area Sampling

I used to emulate Wii at 1x Native with 4x SSAA because "muh fidelity", but I just acknowledge that... downsampling 6th gen games with CRT shaders on top is the equivalent of Hi-Res 24bit/192kHz music: both are snob retardation.

Wii, PS2, GameCube, and Dreamcast lookin' good at high resolutions with multisampling. PSX and N64, however, work better when downsampled. PSP looks good at high resolutions too, but I haven’t figured out how to handle the textures yet. I might give it a shot this weekend.

Because it defies belief and I simply cannot accept it. There must be SOMETHING that is being overlooked. But let's say I agree. If I close this no one is ever going to look into it again. So if somehow by whatever slim chance it is an emulation problem it will never be fixed. This is likely the last chance this game will ever have to work.

NTA but phones and mobile devices are more powerful than you might think nowadays. They are just distracting, ad-ridden, laggy chinkware for borderline homeless pod/shack dwelling thirdies (the "first world" will be like this soon enough) and commuters, so who gives a fuck?

Same internals as a phone.
>>
>>541425378
I thought the dreamcast had some sort of special lighting that was better?
>>
>>541433515
It was still rather expensive even by then, and by then it probably was more of a look they'd established. Many DC games are fullbright or have very simple and baked lighting. Crazy Taxi is an example of both it being a choice and an optimization. As for the 'special' lighting I would suppose you're talking about OIT/order-independent-transparencies.
>>
>>541433403
>Same internals as a phone.
And yet, it’s not a phone. My VW Golf shares the same internals (platform, engine and tranny) as an Audi TT, but it’s still not an Audi TT.
I get it; you’ll probably shift the argument, but you claimed phones could emulate SMG at 3x native resolution, 4x MSAA with hybrid übershaders, and I’ve seen no evidence to back that up.
With that being said, brownoid: could you share proof of it or would you keep talking bullshit?
>>
On Saturn and Model 2, though, they had to work around basically no shading/lighting. They did a decent job, though.
>>
>>541434279
NTA again, but this isn't a stretch if this 2020 chinkphone can run Xenoblade in 1080p. 4-5 years of tech on top of that could easily handle AA on top.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6CKhpHzT_k
Here's one with 2X + hybrid ubershaders on a 3 year old budget phone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8WUrBJnB60
Hell, even a Switch 1 is bodied by most phones now and it ran Galaxy in HD. Not w/ AA, but still. That's a very low end device.

However, one should Get Real (RIP Lynch) and emulate on a PC.

360 discs were actually a little smaller than DVD per side. 3.5gb. Double sided ones were 7gb. Not sure if this was done to keep loadtimes fast and data closer to the center or what. That's a pretty full side, and I imagine this game leans more on its in-game assets than FMV.

But that's not SMG x3 at native res, x4 MSAA with hybrid übershaders.
>However, one should Get Real (RIP Lynch) and emulate on a PC.
I agree. My laptop's GPU is running at 50% and 38°C while emulating, and although I could try SSAA or a higher resolution, it would be overkill since the current settings are more than sufficient. I'm genuinely curious about how a phone would handle it; I'd be excited to see its temps & how much of its CPU/GPU capacity is utilized. I doubt anyone here can prove it: not because it's impossible, but because most of the Anons who've replied likely don't have a phone capable of doing so and are basing their claims on what they've seen online.
>>541445731
>You'd have to be able to make the argument that the cooling in phones is worse enough than handhelds that they are incapable of that performance
I’m not. I’m just stating the obvious: a handheld device is not a phone. Somehow, in your mind, "I’m" the one who made that ridiculous argument about performance. I’m not the simulation in your head, nor am I the one making the argument you’re trying to pin on me: that’s all you.
I feel like I'm discussing with a troon, you are showing illness.
You mentioned that a phone can emulate SMG at 3x native resolution, 4x MSAA, and with hybrid übershaders. This isn't about Switch emulation, chinkhelds, or precompiling shaders in games like Xenoblade without anti-aliasing. Please provide evidence or details to support that claim, I'm genuinely curious.
>since the internals are all that matters
My VW Golf shares the same internals as an Audi TT, yet it isn’t a 2-door coupe sports car. A gaming chinkheld is not a phone and viceversa.
Your bullshit is called "False Equivalence Falacy". Let me break it down for you: it's like if I claim I eat Kobe beef every day, but in reality, I only eat 50/50 ground meat. Sure, both are meat with fat, but that doesn't make them the same. They’re definitely not.
>>
>>541487787
If I bothered buying more than the bare minimum phone, which I don't do because I don't game on a fffucking telephone, I'd just post the game running for you with your requested settings. It's just hard to dredge up the exact thing you're asking for on YouTube. I do believe it's possible, though. Phones are emulating heavier stuff than that. Just, that's not what a phone's really for unless you're living a cursed existence.

Casino Night Act 2 wasn't too bad when it came to mandatory points, but Hill Top is horrible by comparison. The tiles you're forced to break on a few loops rack up points higher than bosses. (1000 points, instead of 100 + 200 + 500 + 1000 points for every part of the ground you break) For an added challenge, playing with Tails will ensure badniks will accidentally be destroyed. It's kind of hard to explain the shader settings I have, but I'm going for as much clarity, color accuracy, brightness as possible while still having meshes blurred. Also avoiding fringing, crawl and rainbow artifacts, fuck those. It falls somewhere between composite and svideo.

Also, my TV needs that composite blend setting because I'm using a YPbPr signal and the cores can fake composite pretty well. Might as well just have the better signal. Hopefully the NG2 recomp I hear about gets done. I have to use the most ass backwards ways to play that game now, ways that just aren't worth it. If I could just play the vanilla version of NG2 on PC it'd be perfect. It's broken in multiple ways on xenia. Works excellently as a backwards compatible game on xbox consoles, but I don't know what it is, when I play any of these games on the crap tv I'm forced to resort to, be it from the screen, sound, surroundings, situation, or all combined, my cortison skyrockets, even for games I play just fine on PC. The controls for NGB also just feel fucked up on xbox one as opposed to XEMU. Somehow it feels more accurate to what I intend to do on XEMU.
>>
I dunno if this is the right thread since it technically isn't an emulated game. But it's old as fuck on old ass Directdraw renderers.

Anyway, I want to use the Sony Megatron ReShade Port (HDR) in the wiki with C&C Tiberian Sun.
Should I still use the AutoHDR addon for inverse tone mapping? Or am I fine using RTX HDR?

I have no clue where in the pipeline RTX HDR gets applied desu.

If anyone knows if there's any other newer/methods to emulate CRT displays with HDR methods that'd be cool too.
>>
86Box/PCem fag here. I'm thinking of trying out QEMU just to see how it runs and if it's a better option for running late 90's/early 2000's games, what with PCem and forks requiring high-end CPUs just to get Pentium II performance. I hear it's a pain in the ass to set up, though. Is it worth getting it up and running with Windows 98, or is it a meme?
>>
>>541710328
It won't be better, do try it anyway and blog your findings here, especially any quirks while setting it up and how to work around them. The last time I used it was for PowerPC/OS X setup and it kinda killed me, but mostly because getting sound to work at the time was weird. It also didn't perform especially well. Definitely see how fast you can get your guest at 100% speed, and let us know your host CPU too. You're making me wanna do it too, and if you don't I will. I got PC98 Win95 + DOS System Shock 1 to work, and FMTowns Win95 so I'm no stranger to PC emulation pain.
>>
A general tip that's saved me a lot of pain on computer emulation: try to find a hard drive image with the OS pre-installed, you can probably just use your 86box one. 98's weirdly flexible about chipset changes. I remember XP-7 shitting out if you even thought about it.
>>
>>541711893
From what I understand it uses virtualization rather than emulation when you set up an x86 machine on an x86 host but emulates other architectures, so I'm supposing it emulates PowerPC, hence the not so great performance there. Maybe I'll look up some video guides.

I was just saying I think 30 is a suck-ass framerate for a 2D action game. 30's not great in any case, but it's more acceptable in a 3D game where you can see out into the distance. GGA is also just a meh game too. I can forgive it a little more in a game like Strider 2, though it would be better in 60 too.

I'm a fan of the x86 emulation system. Any other platform is a pain in the ass walled garden for me to circumvent so I can access its games.

The tv out tweaks and GTU shaders allow you to adjust horizontal signal bandwidth. It'll just enable blur without doing any of the other shitty composite effects.
So you can drop it low enough to blend meshes. But you will destroy the image in the process coz you have to drop it down significantly.

That's the game when dealing with these dumb composite/CRT hacks devs used. You have to pick your poison, level of blur, etc. There are shaders that do nothing but algorithmically blend checkerboards, jailbars, or both, but they'll fuck other things up here and there.

Nah. It will flicker/delay/hitch between modes, just not as slowly and obnoxiously as MAME does. Again, the thousandth time. Even the switchres/GA devs say this is possible, but not trivial and it's very adapter/GPU/driver dependent. Sounds like with X, the right GPU/adapter, and GA/Linux+MAME, it can be very close. Still, hardly matters when Retroarch is the only emulator that can actually play Chrono Cross, even if MAME does it perfectly. So on PC you're left with an emulator that fucking sucks for native CRT use.

FPGA, basically flashes an emulator on to a programmable chip. Honestly, don't worry about it. You probably don't need it. I'm just gonna be called a shill anyway. Unless you have a CRT or really like the Sega Saturn (has the best emulator as of today, but only for edge cases), don't bother. It's really low-lag on CRTs (equivalent to run-ahead +1 on my VRR setup), and you can do video over LAN from a GroovyMAME PC to it and cut out a lot of video and input lag that way.
>why over a hacked console
Nothing's better than hardware, but do you want 20 consoles, the cables, and unique controllers for each? I don't.

Just to inb4 the "shill" freaks, CRTemudriver is 95% as good for CRTs but you will have to tweak it for frame delay/run ahead, and an OLED + VRR setup is way better if you don't care about a CRT. It's fun if you like fucking with things, though.
>>
>>541752879
>Daffy Duck

>>
and regarding crtemudrivers/PC + CRT TV, GroovyArcade is better (boots right into an OS meant for CRT output and is compatible with far more setups) but you better be ready for serious Linuxing.
>>
another point against MiSTer is that it really does need an "assistant" computer for the best results. Something you can FTP/SMB into and share files from, do research on, GroovyMAME host, etc. So be prepared for that.

Explain the humor. 50-somethings were gamers, and games were and still are a major industry. A 70 year old wouldn't be weird for saying it. It was the most adopted and developed for console. That says nothing of its quality, but the sheer quantity of releases resulted in more games worth playing for it.

NTA, but I can believe that. All the Gen Xers grew up on the VCS, with some of the earlier ones growing up on pong consoles. It's safe to say they're the first (home console) gamers.

I've thought about this before. You can randomize early 80s American arcade games in MAME and have a pretty good time. I think the early period had some of that pinball/carnie design philosophy that translated to fun score chases. However, by the 90s their arcade games got way too mercenary, dated themselves with how crass they were, and fell behind Jap games in tech, art, and game mechanics. They also had no idea what they fuck they were doing on NES, and 4th gen was full of Amiga-tier slop.

You can't exactly randomize in MAME, only Arcade64 has that with the Alt-R/randomize feature that'll select a random game from whatever game list/filters you have selected. MAME has said lists/filters too, though. In the pic you can see I've selected that year and filtered out clones so it shows unique games only. It's pretty easy to tell which are American by manufacturer.

Exactly! The only time it should be discussed whether or not a platform is better is if we're talking about multiplat games. Finally gave Panic on Funkotron a chance, and I'm really enjoying it so far! Much like its predecessor, it has an emphasis on exploration, so catching every Earthling in a level is mandatory in order to progress. Usually I find these sorts of exploration-based platformers to be quite tedious, but I think Panic on Funkotron makes up for it with its "Funk Scan" mechanic, as well as the red arrow on the HUD. For an American game, I was expecting this to be more maze-like, but it's surprisingly not that labyrinthian.

That's was a thing even in the last version of Citra, I noticed it and I think that I mentioned in some issue ticket back at its repo when it was still up.

I just finished playing Super Metroid. The music is absolutely delightful, it has no right to be that good! The score is both gorgeous and unique. What an incredible game. SuperTendie faggots don't deserve such a master piece.
F-Zero and Super Metroid feel like the most Segacore games in the SNES catalog.
>>
>>541920810
It's a shame that I feel like Nintendo intentionally holds back on making a better sequel, maybe out of respect.
>>
Honestly I feel like Super Metroid is anti-SEGA. It's very subdued. SEGA was more about loud sounds and visuals and fast, intense action. You couldn't make a game like SM on the Genesis if you tried. Music's too dependent on samples, depends too much on the depth of color palette. It's funny how hardware actually influenced game design back then. Just like you couldn't make shmups as intense as you could on Genesis on SNES.
>>
I won't say it is "Sega Core" because I associate SEGA with Arcades, spics and loud niggers.

Metroid IV is the cornerstone of "modern" vidya. While many normies claim Half-Life is revolutionary for its in-game scenes, Metroid IV accomplished this earlier on the SNES.

It was a "state-of-the-art" video game... just like Gran Turismo on PSX. Both pushed boundaries and aimed to go beyond the norm.

A masterpiece, without a doubt.

By then, it's hard to explain, but it was still the modern rendering/computing paradigm more or less. Just achieved through an exotic architecture and blackbox'd GPU instructions. It wasn't defining the art and gameplay like 4th-6th gen. To a less extent each gen of course.

The biggest pain in the ass so far is sideloading; I can't find a tool that lets me mount and fool around with .qcow2 files like I can with vhd/img (osfmount) and mounting my 86box .img as drive 2 isn't working for me so far. Probably just me needing to learn how to use QEMU better. One could just mount ISOs and replace the image in the script with something else, but you have to quit out of the session to do that. It *does* network with the host machine via slirp so you can FTP to it. I may just do that.

Yeah, I'll fuck with it when I get time. I think half my issue is mounting drive 2 in host and/or guest rather than filetype. Still doesn't change the fact that QEMU is a big pain in the ass when it comes to mounting media mid-session. In 86box you can quickly mount a folder and ISO without shutting down. FTP is the only workaround I see to this, unless you have an answer for that.
>>
AND even in the event that I'd want to change img to qcow2, I don't have tools to mount qcow2 outside of the VM so I can drop files into it. So if you have a tool for editing qcow2 files and dropping files into them, that'd also be helpful.
>>
Installing WinCDemu does give you the option to rightclick folders and convert them to ISOs. That seems like a quick and dirty way to get files into the QEMU machine for those interested. You can just use the same ISO name every time and have QEMU look for it in the script.

crtrannies really are mentally ill and a huge menace to society, was watching this guy review a fucking product and he added his crtranny shader on every old game and they all LOOK MUCH WORSE I mean what IS THIS GUY THINKING, it looks straight up dogshit and worse than not having the stupid shader
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q4TafvcyKM
>>
Leave, soiteen.
>>
if you want your games to look greyish and blurry you might as well smear your grandma ashes on your screen instead of adding a crt shader, it'll look the same and doesn't need and setup time
>>
Worst goddamn poster in months, and on emugen that's an incredible achievement. Worse than Kostas. Worse than the ORT schizo. Worse than the fatspammer. Ciggy is at least a fun kind of schizo and is semi-well intentioned, sometimes. I know it was your childhood but no one cares about Galaxy. You don't emulate anything tricky, leak any interesting information, or do anything but stir shit and post like a frothing idiot.

there might be good crt shaders out there but those are not

In terms of Aladdin games, I think it's the type of game people prefer, not the console they're on. If one prefers Western level design, then Virgin Aladdin is the "superior" version. If one prefers Japanese level design, then Mikami Aladdin is the "superior" version. For me, it's hard to prefer one or the other since I enjoy both games equally. (Although, I think the complaints against Virgin Aladdin's camera are entirely valid.)

Sometimes I wonder why people console war when emulation removes the need for console exclusivity. I can understand if one console has more genres of game you like than the other, but to downright insult others for simply liking a console other than "LOL, MINE'S THE BEST XD"? That's childish!
>>
Telephone/handheld; same diff. Just not where you want to even attempt to run shaders.
>>
>>542055039
Unironically, shaders look good on an iPad. They have a big enough screen to where it's noticeable.

people innately have to worship something and for some people, that something is video game corporations.
>>
>>542055174
I don't wanna shit on it too much as it's an interesting project, but an emulator/virtualization on top of fake-Windows is asking for a world of hurt.
>>
>>542055365
>corporations
Lame. If I have to worship anybody, it's the hobbyists making sure I can even play the games I'm playing at all. (Even if it's Stenzek, and especially even if it's Elad...)
>>
>>542055356
My RGB ones look fine. You can adjust the contrast and brightness to make the lit lines overpower the scanlines and not get that trademark 'dark' look shaders are known for.
>>

>No keyboard

>x86_64 == computer
You would not call a Zenfone a computer.
>>
>>542055616
yeah, I assume better crts to be brighter and have less pronounced scan lines, those maybe look good, but the aggressively tuned shaders look terrible, like looking at a poor person's tv
>>
>>542055902
IRL, CRTs have barely noticeable lines extreme bright blocks of color or solid white, but become more noticeable as you look at darker parts of the image.
>>
On 31khz/VGA monitors, the scanlines are incredibly thin but uniform on all elements at 640x400/640x480. They become nearly invisible at higher resolutions, though.

>>
integer scaling does it for me for pixelated games, no need for scan lines.
>>
the wiki really needs to be updated, someone needs to make a page for cheats for each console, there are github pages with compilations of cheats to enable 60fps and widescreen for various different consoles
and I think 60 fps should always be enabled (if your device can handle it) and widescreen could be enabled depending on your screen
>>
in an ideal world emulators would have an option for 60fps and widescreen every game just like they can upscale every game nowadays
>>
>>542060579
There are both agnostic hacks and specific hacks for this in many emulators. It's just that some games don't play along with the agnostic ones (fps lock, culling/stretching in widescreen) and a lot of the time those don't have user made specific hacks.
>>
That DDR was a variable frame rate game was pretty surprising to me. You'd think that one would be 30 locked, but nope. DDR1-4 on PS1 can be OC'd to 60.
>>
I wonder if some sort of AI driven technique could push HUD elements to the corners or otherwise keep them the same shape instead of stretching them Kostas style one day.
>>
>>542061547
AI is precisely bad at separating things, it's a tool for applying a technique onto a whole picture, this has to be done by hand
>>

>>
>>542055902
On the contrary, the better CRTs had the most pronounced scanlines. Of course, most people didn't have the high-quality ones, so it makes sense that pronounced scanlines would look alien to you. That said, even in such cases they were fine because the displays were still nice and bright, but you need a very, VERY bright display to recreate that with a CRT shader on a modern panel without compromises.

>>542059472
Be the change you want to see. I saw a page that was neglected to hell some time back, and I spent the better part of a month updating the shit out of it.

I've posted countless gifs of shaders here. They're as good as they get at the moment. If this doesn't work for you, you either don't like the way CRTs look or the tech just isn't there for you.
>>
I think crt shaders were just not meant to be seen in big screens, they are fine in lower resolutions and smaller screens

I imagine the contrast isn't so hot, and there's probably some fringing. Still, have to respect someone dedicating a room to it. The digital ones have lag, except for the tippy top end.
>>
>>542068693
:^)
He considers Stenzek unworthy of objectivity and will tear him and Duckstation down however he can. He'll deliberately misrepresent or set things wrong and sell it as a bug. He's had restraint with Ymir so far. The cracks are starting to show, though...
>nonsense
Stenzek's attitude toward criticism is fucking AIDS, however, and there are bugs that he'll never fix. All I want, is for ciggy to deliver the hard evidence that Matt his him, but I think Matt's another way he considers no blow low enough. He'll make this gross PCFX pervert his avatar.
>>
>>542068864
The one on the video also has some, enough that light guns don't work, since it's an HD model with digital processing and all. And yeah apparently the contrast isn't the best and you need the room to be pitch black, and calibrating it is an unholy monster of an ordeal, and once calibrated you can never ever move it or you'll have to start over again lol seems like a ton of drawbacks for what's supposed to be a top tier picture.
