But I just realized something. If this happened in Colors or Lost World, Tails would look even worse, since Sonic would have to win. In the context of Lost World it makes more sense that there is no fight and the twist is that Tails is competent. In Colors it only exists to show the threat of Eggman's mind control powers (which it does a really poor job at, the threat isn't very clear and only comes up in that one part of the story)

Theory time. First there was the ancients, they revolve around the chaos emeralds. All that bullshit happens with the end and some get digitized while the others scattered. This is the first great civilizations. Afterwards the ancients would devolve over time due to influence from the alien planet they inhabited. Some chose to absorb characteristics from the native fauna to curtail their devolution and this would give rise to the modern mobian for lack of a better name. One group remain in possession of the chaos emeralds and would one day rise to be the Gaians, the second great civilization. Another group would seek the source of energy that forces them to fall to the planet and would find the Master emerald and under it's neutralizing energy would devolve further into the Chao, while the covetous ancients who desired it's power would become the echidna race the third great civilization. Finally the final group would stumble upon the time stones (yes I'm bringing these fucking things back) and would rise to become the almost completely unknown of 4th great civilization, until they mysteriously vanish into thin air, possibly due to the time stones. I think I noticed something interestingSome time ago someone brought up that the phrase "Fourth Great Civilization" was actually an English mistranslation that Chronicles (and now TailsTube) worked into the lore. According to the Fandom wiki in Battle it was originally "4大文明のひとつ" ("one of the four great civilizations") which is a reference to a theory by a Chinese historian to explain how human civilization came to be, and it seems that it's popularly thought in history classes in eastern countries like Japan. They divide civilization in ancient times into four different civilizations that coexisted at around the same time. The English translators of Sonic Battle likely didn't know about how people in eastern Asia view history, so they misinterpreted it as the four civilizations coming one after the other instead of coexisting, and "one of the four" became "the fourth". Later western material (Chronicles and now TailsTube) built upon this interpretation of the Japanese text. Which isn't entirely incorrect, since Battle doesn't seem to establish that they coexisted, at most it's just assumed that the reader would understand it like that based on the shared culture of JapanAll of that was already known. What I noticed is that according to Chinese and Japanese historians one of the four great civilizations would be Mesopotamia, so I think it's likely that this concept was either shared between Battle, Riders, and Rush Adventure, or Battle inspired those games to reference Babylonia. I'm not very familiar with the stories of Battle and Riders, so feel free to call me a moron for what I'm about to say, but from what I understand in Battle they say the ancient civilization was completely destroyed, while in Riders the Babylonians obviously have survivers. But I know Rush Adventure is also seemingly incompatible, so either they just clumsily shared ideas during the development of these 3 games, or they had ideas that they wanted to expand on as the series progressed
