I can now trickle feed RF to the farm. This means I can leave it running for a while unattended without the engine bleeding out. I'll probably sus out the emptying of the thing before I head back out for a tad more gold. I've got more lead cooking right now so I can extend the duct. Vanilla is just a soulless modpack designed by a trillion-dollar megacorporation with the sole goal of appealing to the lowest common denominator to maximize profits.

Difference between modded and cucknilla is we get to CHOOSE which bloat we want in our game, plus mods are usually higher quality because they're passion projects and not driven by profits alone.

Maces in vanilla have a unique gimmick that’s not entirely compatible with how Minecraft is played but still provides something new to do. Meanwhile maces in weapon mods are just swords with a 20% chance to ignore armor and a slower attack speed.

>>
>>541460315
I'm dragging my feet through Star Technology. 1.20.1 seems better for performance compared to 1.16 and 1.18, or maybe that's just due to playing a pack focused on GT that doesn't bloat itself out with 15 different content mods because you can make GT multiblocks out of anything instead of needing a mod's specific crafting methods.
It takes some getting used to because things that used to work in older versions don't in this one. For example, in 1.18 Effortless Building and copy/paste gadgets could fill in framed blocks but that doesn't work in 1.20.

1.12 has a decent convergence of some newer mods that 1.7.10 doesn't have, but also a bunch of ports from 1.7.10 that didn't make it to new versions. That being said, way too many of the 1.12 ports of 1.7.10 mods are fucking busted and barely functional, like buildcraft, or got gutted like thaumcraft.
I'm increasingly regretting making my forever world on 1.12 instead of 1.7.10. I'd trade shit like immersive petroleum and embers for ports that aren't bordering on being worthless.

None of the pam's foods are "op" because exceeding the 20 haunches of hunger/saturation doesn't do anything. With foods that add 20, 40, 100 haunches you'd think someone would have added multiple hunger bars, like exists for health and armor, so you'd have to eat less, but no one has.
At least farmer's delight added Nourishment, which prevents saturation drain from movement (healing will still drain saturation).

We should all play in b1.7.3 BTA and stop this new version nonsense
>>
>>541603073
Depends on your definition of 'very very large'. In beta versions, worlds are only 24x24 million blocks in size. If you wanted to see the borders of the world, starting from the world's origin point, you'd have to travel 12 million blocks in either of the four directions, and in a straight line, too. In modern versions, it's 60x60 million blocks, so a 30 million block walk instead. Granted, elytra firework flying does help alleviate this, but only a tiny bit. It would still be a long ass flight.
>Is it truly infinite?
No.
>Is it so damn big that you're unlikely to realistically ever hit the world border?
Yeah.
>>
>>541603073
Ostensibly it is as finite as the available drive space in the world, as you can create as many dimensions as physical constraints allow.

Getting around in new versions is far easier, especially with a riptide trident + an elytra
I once flew like 30k blocks in like 10 seconds during a rainstorm and I didn't go faster because the chunk loading stopped me, so you can get to the border much MUCH faster now

besides elytra sprint jumping (couldn't find the exact number but someone on reddit says ~9.1bps) 30 million blocks takes 38days while walking 12 million at 4.317bps is takes 32days not counting the time you spend crossing water which is much faster in nuversions

The Offlawn! lawn blocks look nice, but they're so expensive (4 seeds per block).
This might be the thing that finally forces me to learn how to use forestry autofarms.

what's the benefit of worlds being so huge and for most people effectively infinite
>>
>>541609240
that going to the border is a cool achievement few people even accomplish, what's the con of it? what do you need a smaller _default_ border for? because you can change the border on world creation if you really need to for whatever reason

And just because I got curios about how fast it would be on a real world I started my old vanilla world and made the test
I started at X=-5193 Z=2057 and I ended at X=5185 Z=2568 and took exactly 8 minutes, so 21.62m/s on the X axis alone, and I used absolutely nothing other than the trident, both for movement and to kill the zombie and repair my stuff

So if I'm calculating this correctly:
>1297.2 blocks a minute
>77,832 blocks an hour
>Divided by 30 million, that's 385.445 hours to reach one of the borders
>Could cut down the travel time by using the nether's '8 overworld blocks per nether block traveled' formula
>Doing so would cut down the travel time to just 48.18 hours...when not taking into account food breaks, equipment repair, or interruptions, assuming you aren't traveling above the nether's ceiling, for some reason
Conclusion: It still takes a long fucking time, but not several years of travel like in older versions.

in the nether you don't have water so you'll need to use fireworks but yeah, it'll take just 2 days of non-stop travel at that speed, and now in the latest nuversions you have (mostly)reliable teleporters so you can make an outpost and go there on demand which is cool

I would actually build railroads and terraform if my worlds were small. Otherwise there is little to no incentive for players who dislike building (me).

just make it so the border is 10k blocks away or so but you can always just hop on the pathserb where you actually just do have stuff to visit (and has 10k blocks on either direction iirc)

The problem with simply limiting the world size is that some ores, biomes, and structures might not generate. Like what if I don't have enough AE2 sky stones (meteorites) to find all the presses I need? Or what if I'm not lucky enough to get an item that only spawns as rare dungeon loot? When I play questless modpack (TOYMY, usually), there is at least one mod that I want to explore in its entirety. If I can't do that, I see no point. You can only fix it with a pre-made world or cheating.

there's not a single thing that won't generate on a 20k*20k world

So is there still a war being waged between biome mods on nuversions, or is there a clear winner yet?
>>
>>541629563
>>541629923
Defeats the purpose. The goal is to make the world small. A 20k*20k world strays far from that, and custom dimensions don't solve the issue even if they automagically generated everything the Overworld does. This kind of playthrough is simply not viable in modded Minecraft without putting a lot of extra work beforehand or cheating.
>>
>>541628240
Not to distract from the main issue, but don't new versions of AE2 give you all the presses at once?

>>
>>541631535
do you have a single structure/ore that won't generate on 20k or even 10k? because both are small, I've built longer roads in vanilla even, in modded you can just leave a train laying it's own track as it goes along, to me it's a (You) problem not actually building a railway and expecting everyone to fix it for you

Never played them. Not a bad idea, honestly. Searching for presses is annoying and I wish you could just craft them with certus quartz.
>>541631805
I don't consider a 20k*20k world small. Not sure about ores, I remember some of them being very rare, but I expect there is enough hidden outside of mines (I exclusively explore caves, never strip mine). With structures I'm 100% certain I wouldn't find some. Had instances where I traveled 10k+ blocks to find a certain structure, and sometimes even gave up. For the life of me I couldn't find a Witchery snow village, for example.
>it's a (You) problem not actually building a railway and expecting everyone to fix it for you
The point is that it requires a sizable effort to create a pack where every mod is fully explorable despite an extremely limited world. And for a random TOYMY I make just for myself to delete later, I don't want to put this effort. Neither am I asking anyone else to do it. It is what it is.

I've moved the machines over into a nice little row with some fine power controls. At one point I had both engines full of fuel with a little bit of a backup in the tanks. when it comes to any form of content with minecraft you have one core thing to consider:
>is the performance impact worth adding the content?
and then an auxiliary consideration
>is it mutually exclusive with anything? and if so, is what you're locked out of worth the content you want to add
1.13+? mojang's content earns a rating of "hell fucking no"
generally bland content with minimal draw that comes with a nuke in performance and every update wipes the slate on mod compatibility
what et futurum does is actually make the content worth it by optimizing the shit out of it and unifying it all in a popular version.
if you treat the mod as a standalone thing, its just a lightweight variety pack of random features, which is perfectly fine. we've had plenty like it and will have plenty more.

There are better cooking mods. My personal favorite is heat and climate. The recipes are all complex, but somehow just streamlined enough that they aren’t a pain in the ass. I'm finding a lot of common thread interactions between MITE and BTW, which makes sense becasue they were being developed around the same time
it kind of feels like a somewhat limited knockoff copy of BTW though, because BTW as a whole was about technical management and only later on moved towards hyper-hostile but kept the clever mechanics, while this is just "what if minecraft but HARD"

There's a bunch of interesting interactions I wish that I could have as a 1.7 mod though
