I am cringing at the normalfaggization of chess. The zoomer era.
Bullet! Blitz! Long games are for grandpas! OTB club? Nah, I just play online. Chess book? No, haven't read one. Ummmm it's actually not a sport, it's an esport, bro! We need more events with ENERGY! With CHARISMA! We need live audience cheering like during a football match! We need streams, we need ENERGY ENERGY ENERGY!
>>
>>541769820
Seconded. Queen's Gambit on netflix was a mistake. Anything chess-related on the internet has been completely bastardized.
All you need is to compare the people writing comments 14 years ago on old chesstempo puzzles with the people writing comments on any chesscom daily today to see how bad it's become.

Botvinnik interview from 1983, when he was at the computer chess world championship in New York:
>When [Karpov] became World Champion he was able to force almost all of the Soviet Union's most creative chess players to work for him. If some master was famous for his ideas in the field of openings, he was summoned to the team or given an individual task to write a report on a given subject. It goes without saying that all this was kept top secret. In short, Karpov took on the role of exploiter of the ideas of others. There's no question that his talent allows him to use these ideas skillfully, but he himself is infertile, like a spayed bitch.
>>

Good comment section, everyone is mocking him for peaking at 2000, despite doing chess full time
>>
>>541816343
>passed him in online rating

to be fair, stjepan doesn't care about his online rating. he could grind lower rated opponents and use other online shitter tricks to farm, but at the end of the day, he wants to be a serious tournament player and imaginary internet points don't matter unless you're training in a way that's going to serve you otb.
>>
>>541818452
You’re retarded. He started a whole series doing an ultra try hard rapid grind to 2500 lichess and got hard stuck at like 2200
>>
>>541818878
i'm just saying you can easily farm online rating. there are 2800 CMs on chess com that are supposedly at the same level as IMs and GMs. at some point, online rating becomes meaningless if you can just farm it by playing selectively. no doubt stjepan could just search for 2000-2100 range and grind it out till 2500 that way, someone in the comments of that series even said so and he said he didn't want to play that way because rating is secondary to actual improvement.
>>
>>541813895
If he's good then good. If he's not well shogi is for fags anyway.
>>
>>541816343
and what chesscum rating is stjepan? because fide he is around 2000, no? i doubt that youtube zoomer reached 2000 fide within a few years

I really enjoy chess as a game, but anytime I decide to play I get a sense of dread and put myself out of it. Am I retarded? How do I get over this?
>>
>>541826427
You dont have to play if you dont want to. I dont play chess, I just watch youtube videos sometimes.
>>
>>541826427
>I get a sense of dread
Ask yourself why.
>>
>>541826427
You've built a negative association with chess because it probably gives you anxiety about losing points and not being a special smarty pants. When you feel it just stay with the feeling, observe it for like 10 seconds, then replace it with "excitement" by simply asking yourself "what would it feel like if I was really excited about playing chess and I was looking forward to playing it all day" and your mind will fill in the blank. Do it every time that dread comes up and after a few times it will click and you'll get rid of it. Then play and focus on the game as a fun activity rather than tying it to your self-worth.
>>
>>541832995
Really great tip anon, i'm not the guy you answered to but it actually helped me now.
>>
Is an e-board worth it?
I've never played OTB, literally never, and would like to learn it. I know visualization will be a pain in the ass and I will probably lose a lot of rating, but isn't that the point, to learn chess OTB and start seeing as good as online?

So, worth it?
