Xth for space girls
I'm new to starcraft and I'm playing through the story, made it to level 7 and I'm starting to hit a wall, only got through 6 because the science vessel making the scv with the emitter invincible.I usually hate it when games handhold the player but in this case I feel like it should've done a little more in explaining the units better, every level I kept getting more types of them but I still don't know what the point of most of them are. wraiths deal slow and little damage while being easy to kill, colossus are expensive and die pretty easily but they kill flying things faster (?), and I have no idea what the tanks are supposed to be good at. hell, I didnt even know what the science vessel's abilities did until after the level you get them.point is, I've been getting through by upgrading the marine's damage/armor and spamming them in waves until in 6 where they stopped performing well. now in seven that strategy still doesn't work and I don't know what the rest of my guys even do. what's the point of investing so many crystals and gas into one or two vehicles if they die so quickly? what's the niche of literally any unit besides the marines and vessel? how long am I supposed spend time on just gathering materials and upgrading unit stats at the buildings? when is it appropriate to arm and use nukes?
>>542612970Siege tanks mate. They don't go up front.
>>542612970Read what the units do by hovering over their abilities and stats and tooltips in the buildings and what not. Most of them should be fairly self evident anyhow. >how long am I supposed spend time on just gathering materials and upgrading unit stats at the buildings?Trial and error until you understand game feel and the mission
>>542612970Terrans are the turtle faction, when you start running into enemies that send waves at you, build up bunkers, garrison them, then get few siege tanks close to them in siege mode. Then have some unit with long view range spot enemies for them. While this is going on, keep building up your economy, never stop building new SCV's and supply depots. While doing this, build up your death blob, marines, firebats, whatever. Wraiths main thing is that when upgraded, they turn invisible and that way become very cost effective units.

>>542605736machine gestalt anon from last thread with Unbidden squatting on my front yard with an update: for whatever reason, the Unbidden have decided to go and absolutely roflstomp the one AI empire who has maintained perpetually good relations with me. They've also used the wormholes hop northward and fuck them up and I'm moderately certain they can use the hyper relay every AI empire has thrown up in every possible system, which is gonna make throwing these ghostly fucks out of my dimension all the harder. On the bright side, the GalCom has realised that energy vampires from another dimension are in fact bad news for everyone and just slightly over half of them are helping to pass the law to declare them a Crisis. I will be personally feeding every single retarded polity who did not to the Synaptic Lathe.
>>542623180never mind I just had the worst 40 turns I could imagine
>>542624809>+567 allowsdawg you're gonna have some issues if those unbidden are even remotely tough, or if there's gonna be more crises coming
>>542625098Yeah I fucked up and had to evac two planets, my fortress and primary forge world to be precise. Thankfully, I have a spare Machine World that was originally meant to churn out new drones for the lathe that I'm currently switching to alloy printing but it'll take a little while for it to come online. I'll probably convert all the ratling tomb worlds into more machine worlds as well at some point soon and kiss my tall build goodbye.>if those unbidden are even remotely toughI've had great success with my escorts and battlecruisers being "oops, all missiles, arc emitters and kinetic artillery" set to artillery computers because the unbidden can't shoot until they're in brawling distance and, unless they've thrown three fleets at me, they don't even get the chance to scratch the paint.
>>542624809UPDATE: THE CRISES CAN USE HYPER RELAYSSHIT

>>542640052Damn, another reason to not be hyped for this game..
The more I watch streams of CIV 7 the more I want to get it, it actually looks pretty good. Reading some recent reviews and it seems the game is taking a turn for the better. It's just a shame there's no demo or "try before you buy" so once you drop that money it's gone, unless you refund but it seems cheaper to get from g2a. Anyone been playing it recently and can comment?
finished up with creating new machine templates to cover all our bases now, our alloys have jumped from 500 odd a month to to just over 2k a month and our research is now a steady 5k total unless we shunt some poor maint drones into the lathe. We've got the first the Paradox Titans in production, and the fleets are fully reinforced and just need updating. The Machine world now has a monthly assembly of 49, and once that is fully populated the new drones are getting shipped en masse to the Ring to speed up our economic growth even more.

I was drawn to Zephon by its setting, but it ended up being really dull. Are there any other "horror" flavoured strategy games?
>>542701490I mean, men can't be beautiful in this game, so...>>542702929Define "horror"? I can suggest a few games, like Rise of Nations' Barbarians At The Gates game mode, or actual spooky stuff like these survival RTS games.
>>542703542Actual spooky stuff (Zephon is about cyberpunk dimensional eldritch fuckery)
>>542710197Closest thing I can propose you are the TAB-like, aka games where you try to set up a town with its own economy while being constantly besieged by zombies/undead/aliens.The reference is They Are Billions, but for the fantasy aspect, you have Age of Darkness Final Stand (it's not necessarily good, the emphasis on melee makes it a pain to deal with huge crowds). There's also Darfall, but it's a lot smaller in scale.Otherwise, what else...Maybe Gladius? Kinda? You play as humanity, on the brink of extinction, and you try to save humanity from the clutches of aliens, monsters, xenos and sodomites. But it's more of a combat-oriented, Warhammer-40000 Civilizations-like, so not really horror. And of course, Homeworld Cataclysm.

I've decided that I don't like the Aspect anymore. How are they supposed to feel like a robot/coral hybrid when you're playing them? They should have just been a full coral hivemind.
How's Cities Skylines 2? Curious about trying out a city builder.>DUDE DLC Don't care>DUDE JUST PLAY X INSTEADI didn't ask about what ever game you're about to say
>>542874806I played demo and it's ok, though I don't like that devs removed caravans and give too many resources. People arguing over graphics and art style but I don't care. Gameplay like it's like other HoMM, though devs added "laws" or whatever they called, you upgrade main building, get law points and spend them either on units or faction upgrades. You can't discuss it though because there's rabid schizoid which will start posting dumb shit, he's on /vst/ /v/ and surprisingly on 2ch.
>>542874806I did not realize it had a demo, thanks for pointing it outMy review:Picked quick play, classic, shamrock (for the hold capital victory condition which seems interesting), dungeon, the jew hero, second hardest difficulty and let it rip blind.Music is good, game generally looks good though it's bit hard to see some of the map objects, that's probably just the bit busier artstyle. It definitely has a "classic" heroes feel to it. I would say it's like more of the same but more of everything. Your secondary skills have sub skills. Your unit upgrades have 2 options to pick from, your spells artifacts can be upgraded, your units have alternative attack modes and abilities some of which costs special resource and others are just free but come with downsides etc. etc. there's just so much stuff. I think it will be fantastic to explore and really deep dive into the systems and if you liked that part of the old games then you will certainly like this.I also like that the AI smoked me on impossible difficulty which I think is something you should expect of the first game even though I'm fairly experienced with the genre, if the AI can't beat me now then it will never have a chance and that's not particularly fun. There's clearly some missing tooltips and stuff. Like I get that the old style of just showing a unit icon on the map and you just have to "figure it out" is fine but honestly with the amount of abilities these guys have and the double upgrades looking pretty similar to each other at a glance it wouldn't hurt to let me view the abilities of an unit on the map before engaging. In homm 3 you could pretty reliably pick out at least basic archers because they had a bow but here even troglodytes can be ranged and they are just guys with a spear so who the fuck knows. The fact that they let you play a full demo like this is pretty fantastic. Definitely peaked my interest a lot more than it already had, worth trying for sure, it's free.

>>542929919This game was meant to be something to knock the rust off and get used to all the new shit so I only put the crisis to x2.5, but her proper fleets are all sitting at 850k from that alone. Thank God nanite ships build faster than any other and their complete lack of upkeep. Also, no matter what you put on their designs, nanite ships all keep their stock price of nanites and nothing else. So you can just stack them with archeotech weapons, dark matter shields, engines and reactors, and whatever else you'd like.

/civ4xg/ will be playing again against /fng/ around 18:20 UTC and I'll post a reminder when the match before us starts. I'm very disappointed with how this team turned out but thankfully a lot of people gave good advice on what I did wrong and how to fix it so I'll be able to fix it before the /vg/ League starts. Thank you everyone for your support and for coming to watch even though the team has been far less than ideal. No one in the group is guaranteed through to the final day and this autism shows what teams go through on what outcomes. TL;DR is we need to win to advance to the final day tomorrow, although advancing on a draw is possible if one team blows another one out. If we advance to tomorrow we'll play two matches, first a semi-final against a team from Group A then either a 3rd place match or a final depending on if we win the semi-final or not.

I have no idea what Halo Wars always telegraph where the AI will attack you and what they'll use but I love it.Oh you made a lot of banshees? Time to attach missiles throwers to my turrets, elle-o-elle!Oh yeah, turrets in Halo Wars are attached to your base and are upgraded through techs, but they also can get specialized expansions, like a flaming mortar to deal with infantry, an "electric cannon" to deal with vahicles, and a missile launcher to deal with flying. The add determines the preferred target, but is added to the normal machinegun.

How is Endless Legend 2 so far?
>>543191873It's okay.
I'm going to give Cities Skylines 2 a try. I love Rimworld and I like 4x....for a single play through so maybe CS2 will act as a bridge.
>played 15 hours of AoW4>really liking it>woke up this morning>all intrest for it is goneI've done like 3(?) of the scenarios and while the stories and stuff were different, they just all felt the same. Get a few heroes, clear the map and take a stack to the enemy base and win. Guess it kind of echoed what the reviews said about it being repetitive. Maybe I'm just retarded?
>>543198875I hope it doesn't stay and that you get cured.
>>543200178It's that good huh? I always have this problem with 4x, I really enjoy the game then realize it's all the same and never touch it again. maybe I've been wrong.
>>543200332I like it, but I get what you mean, I got exactly the same issue with Stellaris and Skyrim. Played the fuck out of them both, and then woke up one morning, and didn't feel any interest in playing them anymore.

>>543197453I have no fucking idea what I'm doing or what I'm supposed to be doing. The city pop exploded way too fast and I've built myself into a corner and there's just shit everywhere. It took me way too long to figure out you can use points to unlock shit and this was after 30+ minutes of trying to fix the fucking highway coming INTO my city. This is only the tutorial city and on easy. I should maybe actually move onto a normal city. I was thinking it would be nice if there were threats but seeing those demand bars maxed out and the "tweets" from citizen bitching about everything was stressful enough. Seeing the city alive at night is comfy af though. Coming from Rimworld and various 4x it's weird being able to just plop shit down and not thinking about what resources you need. I'm enjoying the game so far but not sure if I'm enjoying enough to actually commit to buying it.
>>543208618>I have no fucking idea what I'm doing or what I'm supposed to be doingMe the first time I got laid.

>>543208618>>543208745Also fuck trying to connect roads to building, WHY WHY WHY does it have to be parallel instead of just a single road coming into the facility, I actually had to google it to figure out why tf I couldn't connect a road to the god damn power plant. Also this shit where there's CLEARLY AN ENTRANCE to a parking lot yet it just goes to a curb into a road and not like a normal intersection. Is that the way the game is, did I build it wrong who tf knows.

>>543217761never mind, they're so far away that I don't give a shit
>>543217595My bad, 109 years, not 120.He essentially tortures them separately in the game, playing with their own issues. Gorrister get electroshocks in a padded room because he's guilty about getting his wife committed. Helen got some trauma about yellow, so she's stuck in a room simulating a yellow elevator.Nimdok was a nazi so he burns into an incinerator. The game is pretty tough: the manual flat out tells you that AM is a liar and that you cannot win his game, you can only lose in the most human and triumphant way.If you fail to overcome every characters' flaw, you restart the torture. Only by surprising AM, you get a reprieve, during which the other AIs free you to take on AM's psyche. You're forced to kill all the survivors to get to AM, but if you do as they say and only wake part of AM, weakening him, AND then you give away your only weapon against them, you have no mouth, and you must scream. If you awaken all of AM's psyche, you can then destroy the AIs and become the guardian for the humanity sleeping on the moon.
>>543218045>spoilerGod damn I miss Ellison. He was a madman and an asshole but boy could he write. And his I, Robot screenplay would be amazing to see adapted.
>>543217869the first one bites the dust
>>543218198Of note is that any character can die for good. So Nimdok the nazi can be the last one to survive or get tortured forever. Or it can be Gorrister or Benny or Helen, but only one make it to the end.But if you get a bad ending... you get a very nasty one, you damn humanity to eternal suffering at the end of a three-headed basilisk: AM, the Russian supercomputer, and the Chinese supercomputer. But at this point, you are already a grotesque, soft thing. You have no mouth, but you must scream. Also the game was literally unbeatable in Germany, lol. Nimdok's entire segment was cut.

Luckily there's no motion picture production code yet.>>543267118Eh, no. The guy is a below average actor who trows tantrums during any production I put him on. He also caused multiple scandals outside of filming. He's with the studio until his contract expires but it might even be more profitable to just break contract.
>>543267739Bury him alive. He's already a fossil with outdated views, better put him where he belongs.
>We will innovate our way towards massive profits.>>543267857That's a little extreme though I think you can do that to rival actors.
>>543266854>>543267118The 20s were actually an interesting time for women figuring out self-expression, on one hand you got flappers and the other you got the dames that would inspire femme fatales. Plus the whole prohibition thing going on; a broad named Texas Guina ran some of the most well-known speakeasies and became such a famous actress that the character archetype she pioneered (by being one of those performers who just plays themselves) still survived today. Meanwhile on the other side of the Atlantic you've got female French philosophers like Simone de Beauvoir shaping early feminism, which admittedly is very different from modern mainstream feminism.TLDR; A women's rights protest in the 20s is HIGHLY on point for the time period and you're too smoothbrained to realize it.
>>543267739>>543267739>The guy is a below average actor who trows tantrums during any production I put him on. He also caused multiple scandals outside of filming.Based. true star.
>>543270996I know. This game uses a lot of social history as gameplay elements. There's also the prohibition which plays a role in the game. You can gift booze to your employers but the police can confiscate that if they raid your studios. Later on your films are going to be regulated via self censorship. I think you can get by this in creative ways but there are story elements (like nudity and alcohol consumtion) that you cannot use or that will cause some commotion.
>>543270626>That's a little extremeNo, it's a measured answer to behaviour that tarnishes the studio's image.

Twelve years post Arrival - one empire has been consumed entirely, another has been reduced to a single planet on the other side of the galaxy, the Curators have lost every starhold they once had, the Tiyanki have been rendered extinct in the wild, and the Scourge are pushing the Giranshu in the north-east hard. Some broods snuck through the various wormholes and gateways to hollow out one of my allies before I killed them. We'll be dismantling our own gateways to stop any unwelcome visits in our own lands.I've been ignoring the Scourge both for an actual challenge and because they spawned perfectly to absolutely annihilate the empires who aren't buddy-buddy with me, but I've decided to join the GalCom and will actively start fighting the swarm once they've fucked the galaxy up a bit more.

Are there any negatives to colonization in Stellaris beyond increasing empire size? >>542980256Units can shoot straight through entire buildings, you can't tell what terrain does what. The movement and AP system is insane, every round each unit gets to move, first it's your turn then the enemy, until every unit has moved. You can't go back to a unit after you ended their turn, you have to use all AP or just skip the turn, you can't move a unit forward and then shoot with one behind.A flame truck went up to my units, i hit it with an AT round, after that it's his turn again, somehow, and he kills everyone. No overwatch mechanic, also enemy units don't really try to attack you, so you have to walk into enemies knowing you're going to die because the movement system is terrible. You can barely move and shoot because everything costs so much AP.The worst example i can give is the rocket launcher, costs 60 AP to use, but you need to be deployed which costs 20, and you can move ONE square with the remaining 20 AP. That is, if you're not already deployed, then you have to use 20AP to stand up first, and then you don't have enough AP to move, deploy and shoot.I can't get my head around how to make the combat feel good, you practically can't move and shoot, you can't cover your allies because after one moves it's the enemy turn. I see no strategy in this game whatsoever, i stay far away and shoot them with the longest range weapons i have, cover doesn't really matter and i move up like one tile at a time.Somehow all this turns into some horrible amalgamation of feeling clunky, unfair, and still incredibly easy as long as you play the game as slow as you can.
>>543391974>still incredibly easy as long as you play the game as slow as you can. This is the problem with all of these games, which is why they force you to act fast with mission objectives being timed in most games.

I was planning to post this later in the week but the timeline for signups has shifted and I don't want to miss out on it like I did 6 months ago. If you want to see /civ4xg/ play in the /vg/ League next month, regardless of whether you have suggestions for the team or not, please give me a (You) to show proof of interest in competing. If you have feedback on the players, how they look, the team's music, or anything like that, now's the best time to place a suggestion.I promised you I'd get you an overview of the team since it's been like 6 years since the team was last changed so pic related has the players, their names, their numbers, and their shirt text as well as what the kits look like. A few things are new, such as the goalkeeper kits for kit 2 and 3 and some goalhorns which play when a player scores a goal. If you have any suggestions let me know. If you'd like to possibly see another player on the team, please suggest these. I'm planning to do a roster poll using a Google poll this weekend, and so far the choices will be the 23 current players and 2 suggestions I got (a doomstacks player then El Presidente from Tropico). Each team has 2 gold medals and 3 silver medals, each of which have better stats that the normal player so they play more. Fuck me, Song of Conquest is good. The Vanir DLC adds some Scandinavian blokes, and they have a spear that they throw before switching to a short sword. And the devs, these absolute mad lads, gave them sprites for fighting in melee with the spear. Is this the right thread to talk about X4? I haven't played since 6.0, so I wanted to replay again now with the new flight model and diplomacy. Are there any mods you would recommend? I don't want anything that changes the core mechanics, since I want to actually see what the 7.0 and 8.0 updates brought, but I'd love something that maybe adds some threat. Maybe something that makes Xenon actually expand and conquer others, or something that just makes the other factions more aggressive? Also, I often play with some self-imposed limitations or roleplay scenarios. Got any ideas what I could do differently this time to spice things up?

>>542874806I came here hoping to see some discussion about it.I liked the demo a lot. I have played 4 maps total, one with each faction. I like Dungeon the most, both in terms of the playstyle and in terms of sheer strength. Generally some minor things need balancing, and I'm curious to see some actual properly handcrafted maps first, but so far I think the game is shaping up quite nicely.
>>543487001Would definitely recommend if you like sandboxes.Be warned though, the controls are kind of difficult at first, and it takes a bit to get used to them, same with the menu navigation. Kind of a steep initial learning curve. But if you power through it, it's great fun imo.

>>542874806me again>>542906681I have now played a game to victory on all factions and all the classic mapscripts and I can say that I do like it a lot. All of the factions seem pretty interesting and while there's certainly some meta picks the sheer amount of units and abilities is just astonishing. Temple and Necromancer towns seem straight forward and simple while the Dungeon and Schism have more gimmics and are harder to get going (and I'm not sure if they are even meaningfully stronger or not to compensate). It may just be the difficulty and map that causes that. Most maps just doesn't give you any mines and the way you make (and use) the alchemical dust is also esoteric. I have not played the tutorials so maybe I'm just missing a button but at least with the second hardest difficulty level of starting resources developing your towns on some maps and some factions is very challenging and requires some thought to be put in so you don't "soft lock" the town. One one hand I quite like that but I would also appreciate a more traditional resource heavy maps every now and then. Granted those probably come out with the actual game but still. I have found magic to be somewhat lacking and mostly focused on might playtroughs, partially because mage guilds are very expensive and partially because there's just lot to learn with magic. Then again in one battle the AI did almost obliterate me with few powerful spells so who the fuck knows. I can't seem to find a good bread and butter spells like magic arrow, lighting bolt, mass slow etc and I do not really understand what each school is supposed to be good at and I don't think it's worth it to upgrade or unlock spells when the same resource competes with upgrading your town. The generic spells on the other hand are fantastic and worth picking up every game. I think I will play a very dedicated magic focused run next with a spell damage or spell specialist hero and see what happens.

>>543513610I've found magic to be very strong, but damaging spells, primal magic especially, seems to be somewhat weaker than the rest. The best damaging spell is in daylight magic for some reason. Daylight in general is fantastic, you've got the buff that lets everyone counterattack before they get attacked, you've got the hp increase with an initiative bonus, you've got the simple % based damage reductin and damage increase buffs, and then the previously mentioned best damaging spell in the game - judgement. From what I've played so far it seems to me that the schools rank like this:Daylight > Arcane > Twilight > PrimalBut I think there's enough variety in the spell lists to make the overall "worse" schools better for specific factions or just different strategies. As for the alchemical dust, yeah, I'm not sure I like the implementation. A lot of normal unit buildings require it as well, and yet there are no reliable ways of getting it as far as I can tell. Best case scenario you just get lucky and find some on the map. Or better yet the building that gives you a certain amount if you visit it each week. Other than that you just have to hope that the map is going to have enough shitty artifacts for you to destroy to fund the most important buildings. A bit too RNG based for my taste.

>>543561883most RTS campaign modes are designed such that they give you a very limited unit palette so that you can get used to them, which slowly widens as you go through levels. so level 1 will be only your basic infantry, then level 2 will be your anti-tank infantry plus a scout vehicle, then level three will throw in a tank, etc.starcraft, starcraft 2, warcraft 3 (og version, not reforged (unless they've fixed in since release? haven't touched it in forever myself) are kind of baby's first rtses, while starcraft has also managed to be the only real high end rts at the same time. Also mentionables: all Westwood games with special mention to Red Alert 2. There is also Age of Empires 2, Rise of Nations was kind of fun back in the day, 40k Dawn of War (which just got a remaster? idk if that's any good though; original was pretty great),Age of Mythology (also has a remake?), and maybe Supreme Commander, but that one is kind of great but kind of obtuse at the same time.Blizzard and Westwood were the RTS kings back in the day, and I highly recommend checking their works out.If you want something more modern: StarCraft 2, maybe Red Alert 3 or Command and Conquer 3.If you want to experience the classics: yet modernized, Command and Conquer Remastered, Starcraft 1 remastered. If you want the true OGs: Dune II, Warcraft 1.Note that no RTS campaign will, in any way, prepare you for multiplayer. You will get your ass handed to you in any pvp game. The enemy will pop out of nowhere with a full army while your basic infantry building is still under construction.

Wings of Liberty is free but 40 bucks for the whole package is not a bad price either, it would be a steal if you didn't already get all of the other stuff for free. It really has everything a RTS should have and is the gold standard for the entire genre. I would almost say that pricing it so low (free) Blizzard killed the RTS genre because every new game coming out has to compete with SC2.AoE2 is also good if you prefer the medieval setting instead of the space. >>543513610I have now played few games focusing on magic. Now that I have looked at the system and experimented a bit it's what I would say functional system but has pretty big weaknesses too. The pros is that spells look pretty nice and there are several good spells especially in what I would categorize as "support". There doesn't seem to be any particularly OP/must use spells like say mass slow that just fuck over AI but a the same time spells have plenty of omph and are bullshit enough to feel unfair when it all clicks which is a good thing. The decision to move town portal and dimension door in particular to the neutral category is also fantastic since that removes the RNG from these must have map spells and also removes the need to pick a magic school (earth and/or air) just for having them function properly. It also means might heroes have fairer access to them. Damage spells have more variety than just "bigger number better" with some of the high tier execution spells. The downsides relate mostly to how the spells are unlocked and the magic secondary skills. First of all the fact that spells unlock randomly but then you can also invest resources to unlock a spell directly but also you can level them up with alchemical dust puts way too much pressure on your resource economy for what it's worth 99% of the time. Outside of manually learning a key spells to cheese a fight I don't see a reason to ever upgrade them like that, you are better off just spending your resources at your town. (incidentally artifact upgrades suffer from this same, +1 knowledge for 100 dust or upgraded T7 and T3 dwelling hmmm). The spell leveling system is also pretty obscure as a whole. You can gain levels either super easily or like pulling teeth but most spells (none?) benefit from being above lvl 4 so most magic sub skills feel bit weak as a result. Might sub skills seem much more directly beneficial.

AoW 4 question. I'm a noob and about to to win my first game but it looks like the game isn't recognizing that I completed Military Victory.I have an alliance with Raina and defeated Cinren. They are the only other two rulers aside from myself. But the game is implying I need to kill Raina. Even the tooltip says "To achieve Military Victory, an Empire needs to defeat all other Non-Allied empires."Does this mean that Raina and I need to kill or vassalize the remaining free cities?

kekThis is a mod, right?
>>544091573You need a wizard's bond first. And, no, you don't need to deal with the remaining free cities. Wouldn't hurt though and it would give you something to do while waiting for relations with Raina to improve. Plus it can help youg et to expansion victory as a fall back if the alliance isn't working out

>>544092202>>544093402Oh, I messed up. She won't consider an alliance now because there are too few rulers alive. I either have to kill her, which makes no sense RP-wise, or end the game. Damn.
>>544094714>I think we're gonna have to kill her...>Damn.
>>544094714yeah I guess you can't make an alliance after killing everyone so that there's only 2 players left. >>544120774>>544120961How exactly does Majesty 2 appeal to the masses? It has mixed reviews. Nothing I have seen suggests that Majesty 2 is more popular than 1 in any sense. >>543883593I also tried the single hero mode. Bizarrely the largest map available in the pool is in this mode which is somewhat paradoxical since you know one hero can't physically cover so many things as multiple heroes could. The AI also struggled lot more than the classic mode, I suspect it's because of the map I chose, though the fact that it can't spam heroes early with it's starting resources also has to be a hindrance. The fuck off huge map with it's many teleporters doesn't let the AI to be aggressive early on and I think it doesn't "get" the map such as that you turtle the first week on your starting area, then bust out and get more of your factions towns and then reinforce using by teleporting back into town while continuously pushing for more hero stats and rare resources (wood and ore) on the map. I suspect this mode would be better with a smaller and more tightly focused map but those were available, I just choose to pick the big map because surely if the devs included it there has to be some gimmick (there wasn't as far as challenge goes, fun map regardless). The single hero mode highlights the neutral spells particularly well and my choice to pick a magic focused hero with some secondary perks like restoring mana every turn and making all spells cheaper definitely helped a lot with this map. Overall I quite like most of the secondary skills, there' few bad ones but so far I think the only one that's totally waste is the summon avatar one and even that has some synergy with summons. The avatar unfortunately was a big letdown even with my relatively speaking stat heavy army light hero, maybe the avatar would be better in the very early game as a sort of ballista replacement but I dunno, seems very mana expensive for early battles.I have been really impressed with olden era, haven't had this much fun with a demo in a long time. There's some issues mostly in quality of life stuff but game is definitely in very much playable condition
