Thoughts on adding base building elements in a RPG, like valheim or the new runescape game?I found the start to be tedious because I got too attached to the starting location, building a house, fire, workbench, and putting a lot of resources into the base. I think it would be great mid to late game, because the start should let the player explore freely without thinking too much about base layout or finding a good location to settle down.Early on, players could rest and craft in villages, get drops from mobs, explore, and level up their skills and weapons. It's a change of pace from the regular levels which can get long if it's your first time playing then. Doing a roguelike but I am concerned about the sprites. Should I have them more in a 32x64 dominions 6 style like pic related or should I go for a smaller, 32x32 size like a fire emblem style. I like the idle animations which is much easier with a 32x32 but I have so much more room to capture detail with more space to use. All map tiles will be made to fit the sprites but but the map sprites will sometimes bleed over into other squares. Smaller tiles means easier death spritesheets too. Anyone done it before? Got any advice?
