The egg bosses were one of the few good ideas from Reboot Archie. Eggman having mechanically enhanced underlings coerced to be loyal to him is entirely in character for Japanese Eggman (who routinely tries to use eldritch gods and keeps Metal Sonic under a tight leash) and it fits better with the SegaSonic series aesthetically than SatAM's roboticization.I have no idea why this wasn't carried over into IDW/the games. Infinite is basically the same archetype of 'enhanced Eggman underling' and it works very well in universe.
