Ian's issue is an obsession with nostalgia, subversion, and a massive overarching story that turns whatever he's writing into a borderline parody that almost seems as if it's mocking itself, which he does in place of any sort of consistent character writing or consistent story. In other words, he comes up with some genius subversive story regardless of if it works for the characters, and then he changes characterizations on a whim in order to make it function. A prime example was with the way the Metal Virus and Surge attempted to decontextualize Sonic both as a character and as a franchise.Evan on the other hand is WAY more simple than Ian, every thing she does she only does because she feels like it would be cool or cute in the moment and then doesn't put any more thought into it. She redeems villains because she thinks it's sweet and wholesome, she does ship teasing because she thinks it's cute, she focuses on drama and trauma more than action because that's what she likes to read about, and she writes characters far softer because that's just what she likes. Her way of writing is so in the moment that her plots devolve into nonsense where she forgets important information and screws up the set up so badly that the only way to make things sort of work is if she has everyone act stupid so that it at least ends up sort of like a normal resolution.There's no spite or ulterior motive to Evan, she just thought Sonic was closer to how she wanted it to be and was genuinely surprised she was wrong.

It's not just the fact that her writing skills are extremely poor and that she puts no thought into her plots but she also just straight up can not and debatably even does not want to write for franchise meant for boys. I literally don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the only reason why she's working on the comic and the lore team at all is because the fanbase is literally her only source of income these days. I personally believe she fell out of love with this IP years ago.
Fun fact, one of the first people who made villains deaths as a suicidal defeat is disney. If you notice all his villains are not killed by the heroes, they are struck down biblically by God after they make a mistake. Making the villains kill themselves out of their own malice is a very christian concept.
