>>543454183It's part of the moralist vision quest. I don't remember which one it was, but on night 3 or 4 when you're asleep you get to pick a quest for one of the political alignments you've qualified for.
>>543454432That makes sense then, I've only done Libertarian and Commie
So what's the verdict? Is Hades 2 better than the first, or no? And does it do anything meaningfully different or is it just more of the same?I'll probably end up at least trying it, they better have put more thought into visual clarity and readability. The art in previous Supergiant games was so impressive because it was clear and functional despite ll the detail and animated effects. Hopefully H2 is a return to form, it might be a long wait for their next game.
>>543454559They're all pretty good, but imo it goes Moralist > Fascist = Commie > Lib. The moralist one gets some worldbuilding, some spooky shit with pale, and it even has a unique game over if you choose a certain dialogue option. The fascist one has some solid writing, in particular the conversation with Measurehead. Lib was a bit disappointing to me, other than funny big number and some commentary on artists living under capitalism, you don't get much out of it.
>>543454889After 70 hours, I'd say it was different enough with the first game 4 years in the rearview. For someone who finished Hades 1 much more recently? Probably not.

>>543450956https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/236979314/habromaniaThis is Habromania, a point-and-click adventure with horror elements, also a reinterpretation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland featuring a 19 year-old Alice. Already well beyond fully-funded, but has one more stretch goal. Will have multiple endings. The vibe it gives me is "classical tumblr-core", if that makes any sense, which I actually find nostalgic. I don't much about the artist, but she seems well-established and popular, and has kickstarted a comic before. It has a demo on Steam.https://store.steampowered.com/app/3677050/HABROMANIA/It's pretty handholdy with no horror elements, but I think it has charm. The protagonist rambles quite a bit and I find it cute.
>>543467474This is barely hidden advertisement.I've seen a billion games just like that and none of them ever released. Come back when you actually have something to show. A demo is nothing. Most projects die right after they release their first demo.
>>543467983I'm only showing it here just in case anyone cares. I saw ManlyBadassHero play it and a /v/ thread and thought it seemed kind of interesting. VisCal is so unfathomably cool. I wish there were more instances of it. Then again I'm currently playing a character who has it maxed out at 2, so I guess being too reliant on it would be hard to balance for players who don't spec into it.On that not this reminded me about how on my first run I assumed the hanged man was just one of many cases you'd slove. But in retrospect it was fleshed out enough to fill a whole game so that's nice

>soulash 2Do caravans even exist while playing? There's a constant stream of them when progressing history in the world screen, but I've never seen one while playing in the world. Yet there's a filter for caravans in the in-game map so I assume they should be moving around the map. Warbands at least are visible and while you can't intercept them en route, you can take part in battles once they reach a settlement.
>>543469193The dancing is boring, but Sid Meiers Pirates! Is a true 10/10. I still play it once in a while. Sea of Thieves is fun if you don't mind being ganked. Sunless sea is a weird nautical horror game, piracy is an option, so is smuggling drugs, souls, and all kind of horrible crap. Kinda woke, but the lead writer hadn't left yet, so it isn't as bad as the sequel. Speaking of which, Sunless skies has some solid spooky trading gameplay but the writing is complete dogshit. It's kind of funny in a "pull a barve" kind of way. There's a quest where an officer who used to be a male demigod or something who transitioned into a woman in a magic prison needs your help because "she" is being followed by her toxic masculinity in cat form and you have to go on a quest to solve her gender issues or the cats will keep spooking your crew. There's Underspace, a freelancerlike if you want to be a space pirate. Barotrauma can be a lot of fun, not really pirates so much as a bunch of doomed morons on a submarine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUOWk-o8vaM

>>543519796Some recent indie games I've beat or am in the middle of that I got during the autumn sale. Some of these are fairly well known though:Withering Rooms>side scrolling survival horror RPG all taking place in a dream. Intriguing plot. Janky combat, especially early on, but you get the hang of it eventually as you level and develop a build. Game is longer and more expansive than I expected. Sucked 25 hours out of me before I beat it.The Roottrees are Dead>Investigation game where you simply put pictures, names and occupations together on a big family tree, by going through evidence and 1990s internet to piece things together. If you've played Obra Dinn, its comparable. Also has an extra additional family tree you can solve after beating the original.Crow Country>N64/PSX inspired survival horror game set in an amusement park. Short and easy but does a great job evoking the aesthetic its going for. Like the old survival horror games it mimics, it has lots of extras to unlock for new runs.Siralim Ultimate>Monster "catcher" turn based RPG where the gimmick is making busted party compositions with lots of unique traits and skills, with monsters being able to be combined to even further synergies. Ugly, but addicting.Approaching Infinity>Star trek-esque adventure roguelike. Really intuitive, great UI, simple gameloop and progression but everything feels good. Might be worth waiting because the creator is working on a big expansion?I'm gonna check out these other recommendations. I love indie games bros.

Slow burn Polish horror game without cheap jumpscares and shit>VagrusCaravan management RPG set in a post-post-apocalyptic fantasy roman empire>Ostrivvery cozy Ukrainian city builder>CocoonMade by the Limbo/Inside devs I think. Fun one off puzzle game. Not overly difficult but I enjoyed how it hacked into my brain with good game design to point where it felt like the puzzles solved themselves. Neat experience. Also I'm affraid the artstyle will be retroactively ruined by the existance of AI art>Songs of SyxColony sim made by a single dude. I love it, even if it felt poorly balanced last I've played, though the dev promised to address that
Ok, after playing lots of RoR2, I can definitively say the way enemies spawn in is DOGSHIIIIIIIIIT. The whole waiting around interludes, especially in the beginning stages in so insanely retarded. You're options are wait 10 minutes to finally get things to spawn (if you're lucky) or instantly hit the boss spawner and get like 5 gold and then the enemies permanently stop spawning. I'm playing on the highest god damn difficulty. Just give me an endless barrage of enemies with 0 down time for fucks sake. Oh but I'm sure this is all a part of the intentional design choice just like how the pickups themselves are designed for ants. I'm the crazy one for thinking all of this is retarded.

>>543539954>I have never played an Earthbound-like, or Earthbound for that matterI just thought to mention it off the bat since "quirky Earthbound-like RPG about depression" has become a meme and some people might still be sick of the genre and get annoyed. >>543454889I would rate Hades 1 better in terms of story, but in terms of challenge and gameplay / overall content, Hades 2 is clearly superior. They refined a lot of the mechanics from Hades 1, and then simply doubled the amount of regions and bosses. I sorely miss some of the old characters from the first game, though. The worst part about Hades 2 is the ending / epilogue, which is very unsatisfying especially compared to the first game's resolution where it feels like everybody comes out ahead. By contrast, the ending of Hades 2 is bittersweet and you're robbed of even being able to revisit the House of Hades again

Generally, if it's a game freak made game, it's a proprietary Engine, if it's an outsider made game, it's a different engine. This applies for most nintendo games too.For example pokemon go was made in unity (which isn't too surprising since it's a mobile game). That mario xcom game with the rabbits was made in ubisoft's snowdrop engine (which they don't license afaik). While the mainline games like 3D world, odyssey, etc are typically made in nintendo's own engine which we don't know the official name of. Iirc the engine they used for the last mario party had the official name leaked but I can't find it online. It's a fairly common practice. Capcom does the same thing with their (absolute garbage) RE engine that (doesn't) powers monster hunter wilds and the resident evil games.

Got my paining of the four symbols, so I can protect wild spirit fruit trees.I'm still playing it's just that there's really not much to report, I'm mostly only fast forwarding through time to get to the next agency events and to progress events to the mysterious cavern and wandering immortals showing up, I don't exactly have much to do before that point.
>>543639854I'd take them over you at this point.
>>543635476Yeah, the level I'm playing has a bunch of them, they are a really nice touch, its rare levels get these little 1 panels of custom art outside of cinematics.

>>543641394No, the third world is better off.Contemporary Russia is the post-apocalyptic remnant of the second world that collapsed in the 90s.
>>543641575It's part of Exquisite Knorpse 2, if you don't know what an Exquisite Corpse, is it's a bunch of creators take turns making a portion of the map and the only information they are given are what cells are taken and where exits and entrances to cells are.Someone decided to make a really chill nighttime cliff area where you find these little interaction points to get these custom panels. No, it's not pornographic at all.
Can you guys stop being off topic and talking about politics for 5 seconds? I want to know if I should play in sound mind for halloween.
>>543641643>post-apocalypticProbably what makes it so good for vidya.
>>543642058It comes from french "cadavre exquis" which is that game where each player says a word after the other to make the weirdest sentence they can think of.

>>543642162What's that game about?>>543643195>>543643217Hey look I didn't realize /indie/ was in the game! :^)
>>543644342It's about psychology I think.
Where the fuck is difficulty setting saved in soulash2?Logic says it must be in player.sav as it should be a property of the player rather than of the world and every other file is for world properties that exist even before making a player. But there isn't any damn difference in player files of two identical characters created with different difficulty, aside from a seemingly random id in "persona"
>>543624339I didn't play Stacklands but i think it's similar yeah
>>543647028There might be a different file common to all saves.Difficulty may also be simple stat changes, if it can't be changed mid-game.
>>543648119Sound guess but there are no common save files, the only common user data is stuff like keymappings and settings. Saves are neatly structured under %appdata%/WizardsOfTheCode/Soulash2/saves/WORLDNAME/Difficulty is more like game mode. You've got- hardcore (delete character and world on death)- dark fantasy (delete character on death)- high fantasy (respawn character on death, disable aging)Seems like I can copy the entire player.sav from one save to another and the originally chosen difficulty mode stays, so it must be saved somewhere else in the world files, but at a glance any relevant files are identical.
>>543649590>You've got>- hardcore (delete character and world on death)>- dark fantasy (delete character on death)>- high fantasy (respawn character on death, disable aging)My dude, the string is highlighted right there. That's the difficulty setting. I though it was your character name, but that's clearly it.
>>543651582Those are character names I used to identify the otherwise identical dupe charas.Meet the two identical twin testificates, highfantasy Grass and darkfantasy Grass.(Grass is the family name for a new orphan character)
>>543651910The deletion/aging criteria could be binary encoded in the persona number, unless it's some randomized character stat.83: 0101 001111: 0000 1011
>>543652305The persona is a property mostly used for NPC characters. The player has no control in choosing it and it doesn't do much as far as I can tell. It probably influences some behavior when you retire a character in your own settlement and run the history progression simulation.
imma get Roots Of Pacha and Fields Of Minstria
>>543652492If it's not stored in that number and it's not in the save files, I'd check the windows registry. Unconventional, but it happens.
>>543652305Also there's nothing fancy like bitfields in the numbers. All the numbers are just IDs. Apparently the dev has never heard of enums.... except he does sometimes use them. Who knows what sort of thought process went into this.; * | and newline are separators in the syntax. Apparently. Whatever this format is.
>>543653053>Apparently the dev has never heard of enumsHow would you know? Enums are typically integers. Bit flags too.
No one is talking about vampire the masquerade bloodline 2? It must really suck ass. But I feel like we already knew that since this baby kept getting thrown around from studio to studio and had over 10 directors.
>>543653825been talking about it in /wodg/ over at /tg/, nobody expected anything good but was still let down
>>543653319Almost everything is done through clunky and obscure numerical IDs rather than human-readable enum values whether it's creating mod content or using console commands. It's not just a dumb trick to save bytes the text serialization format. >>543653009I'm tracking file access via Everything and the game does not touch to any registry hive when it writes saves, only its appdata folder. As I said>it must be saved somewhere else in the world filesIt's probably this, but I cant figure out where. So there's...>actors.savAll NPCs (alive and historical), a shit ton of data including AI state>buildings.savBuilding zones in settlements>caravans.savCaravans (currently active ones I guess)>companies.savAll military companies (alive and historical)>cycle.savNo clue but it's identical regardless of difficulty>factions.savAll factions (alive and historical)>factions_items.savSeems like your settlement stash or something>general.jsonBasic description of the save for the game menu>history_events.savAll history events>manager.savSeems like an entry point of some kind, there are three IDs in it and one of them is the player character entity ID>player.savPlayer character + inventory>region.savA few IDs, only one seems to be used>regionsDirectory for region maps>roads.savPaths generated on the overworld map through caravan activity>weather.savGary's weather forecasting stone>world.savThe overworld map>world_state.savA few IDs, seemingly always unused>year.savCurrent yearMust be something really obvious I'm missing.

>>543655983>>543657026That makes sense.Of course it's gotta be some kind of steam integration bullshit.Maybe I just missed it. I should have known. I have dealt with this crap before. But the thing is... Everything doesn't show any such files being modified on the system when the game saves. Just the soulash 2 appdata save files. What's more interesting, I don't have a /2399160/ directory ANYWHERE on any local disk, not in steam nor in any steam emu userdata. Yet that's what the game's steam_appid is set to.Tracing Soulash 2.exe via procmon shows it trying to open a bunch of files in a GSE /2399160/ directory but it can't read a single byte out of them since they don't exist. But clearly the game has to be reading the data from somewhere. What the actual fuck?Well, since it is probing the remote rather than local steam save directory I suppose it would try to get the steam cloud save data from network if it's not found on the filesystem? And indeed, I see the process talking with localhost via UDP at the steam emu's port immediately after trying to get /2399160/remote/ from the filesystem fails.I guess the emu is storing them... somehow, somewhere. Has to be locally, though. The game has no network access, not that it ever tries to connect anywhere except itself via a few UDP packets.I'm going insane. I think I'll just go live in a cave and never touch technology ever again.
Expanded Sosegi. It has now a tree cutting hut with one dude working hard. One foraging hut with a woman gathering grass for making nets. One fishing hut with two fisher women feeding the town feeshes. A new food storage building besides the general storage and the workshop. Gonna add another tree cutting station and make a simple house for dudes, as right now everyone sex is living at separate housing. Also should probably make a mining hut to automate stone as I'm running a bit low on it.>>543635587Still on track to complete the supossedly impossible achivment?
If I liked Lunacid would Lost in Vivo be any good?
>>543678686Haven't played Lunacid, but I enjoyed Lost in Vivo. It gave me "What if Silent Hill, but made by just some dude" kind of vibes. Has lots of playground rumor level Easter Eggs too like starting the game around midnight
>>543679773Lunacid's got stuff like that, the IRL phase of the moon affects game mechanics.
>>543635587>>543673697>Still on track to complete the supossedly impossible achivment?Sure, all that matters right now is savescumming. I need to figure out when an event will pop for a location, save very soon before it, then keep rolling it until I hit the desired 1 in 18.Or I just get one disaster for the location since that gives over 100k in one go. Shame the only place I ever get disasters are places I'm already sitting at 99k with.

>>543683516What game, why and how?
>>543683941>whatStar Valor. A small, casual space trading/combat arcade game.>whyJust dev blindness and bad financial decisions I guess.>howUpdates made the game less fun. Some reviewers are also complaining that he split a feature that should be in the base game into a paid DLC for a game that's already kinda expensive for what it is. If the price was 1/4 of what it is, the game would probably have sold at least 10 times more copies.
>>543685853Damn, I had it on my wish list for a long fucking time now.
>>543686209Star Valor was great fun at least until 2.1.It's still pretty good, but base building and the related changes in 2.2 have made the game worse as a whole. And it's now like 30 bucks with the mandatory DLC.
It's the Flower Dance all over again!
>>543686724I'm not trying to be rude but that game look slike pure propaganda.
I keep forgetting how gorgeous this game is.I long for my first blind playthrough. Doesn't help that this run I'm a lot closer to roleplaying character instead of trying to do what I believe my "ideal" Harry would. It's still very fun though, maybe I should turn this into a yearly replay for a while
>>543687157What does that even mean?
>>543687951Good question. It's hard to tell what kind of brainworms are infesting anon's head without more context.
>>543686724That's an angry feminist insert
>>543687951>What does that even mean?NTA. But the tumblr-ish art it use and the mix of races, is very similar to the PC/woke/leftist/youknowwhatImean propaganda style of art they do in either online ads, or in badly made political mouth piece games like that one about the store.Look at pic-related for the style that "they" generally use. Also from an inlore perspective is very strange how there's so much racial diversity from what is supposed to be a very small group/tribes without much contact with other group/tribes. I would have thought that half of them would be EXTREMELY related.>>543686693>have made the game worse as a whole. Can you please explain it in more detail what happened?>And it's now like 30 bucks with the mandatory DLC.Well, I have it on wishlist for 5 years, I can wait until the whole game is at 15 eddies.
>>543687951If you can't infer what I mean you aren't on my side and you can ignore me. If you desperately want some sort of context: I don't like the artstyle>>543689305That's by design, see the spoiler for the truth.
>>543495393>Do caravans even exist while playing? If you have settlements, I'm pretty certain that YOU can make caravans to trade stuff.
>>543495393This game looks pretty cool, what is this? dude on the top right looks Runescapecore
>>543691889Yeah you can also send supply caravans between your own settlements.I've seen my captured settlements sending out caravans in the settlement management menu, but they're not visible/existing on the world map for some reason.>>543692475Soulash 2.All characters are represented with portraits like that, both on the world map and inside locations. The chargen makes pretty varied faces but there are no other character graphics. At all.Your mileage may vary but it gets tiresome quickly. Soulash 1 at least had full character sprites instead of a bunch of abstract portrait circles bumping into each other.
>>543693098>Soulash 2.I might check it out all I know about the game is apparently the dev didn't want to add gay and lesbian relationships and it cause a meltdown where at one point they said he was a pedophile because you could marry 16 year olds, even though that's kinda around the age girls were married off at that time or something. Is it cool? I might check it out. Is it an RPG?
Hey look its /indie/ again!
>>543695063We got some custom graphics and I don't really know what I'm supposed to expect but its getting seasonally spooky.
>>543694886Family mechanics are all about popping out descendants and increasing population. Can't do that with two dicks or two cunts. Interracial orc x elf or whatever pairings also won't work. It's very much an open-ended sandbox game.Closer to a mix of Dorf Fort's legends+adventure+fortress modes than anything. Mostly legends and adventure. The worldgen and history systems are very obviously inspired by DF, but much simpler in both good and bad.
>>543695610You can't have half-orcs or half-elves? That's kinda lame are interracial relations completely barred or can you be a DINK couple with an elven waifu?
>>543696568No, there are no halfbreed of any kind afaikSettlements with multiple races are common but they can't reproduce, families are purebloods. There are a few other ways to create sentients from necromancy to constructing golems to shek rituals but mostly it's just families making babies when there's enough food available.
>>543696968Is it moddable?
>>543697310Yes
>>543697326That gets me thinking but I think I should play the game before saying what should be a mod and what shouldn't be a mod. Do I need to play Soulash 1 to get Soulash 2 or is 2 just a re-release of 1 with more or tweaked features.
>>543697746No, they're two completely different games.
>>543697848What's soulash 1 about then?
>>543697959You play an evil god with the goal of destroying the world. It doesn't have any of the DF-like world history simulation features and such. But Soulash 2 has a lot of stuff from 1.It's a rare case of two really different games on the same engine. Most devs only ever focus on one thing.
>>543697310Yeah but the dev intentionally break mods he doesn't like with updates to spite people.
Finally made Commando viable.
>>543708019That's pretty cool>>543708579And same, but I'm probably older. You get used to it at a certain point.
I'm going to bed here's a crazy screen I saw but didn't post right before dinner.
>>543694886>even though that's kinda around the age girls were married off at that timeThat's still accepted in every european country except ireland. That's in fact older than you need to be in much of western europe.
>>543694886Yeah that's incredibly suspicious. Daughters would be sold off at 8-13, choosing another age just seems like you are talking about the way things should be.
>>543687157looks like a weg
>>543719539>Yeah that's incredibly suspiciousIt's not suspicious in the slightest.
>>543722576Choosing an ahistorical age of consent is not suspicious? Intentionally misinterpreting history, seems pretty politically motivated.
>>543728818The age of marriage in the game is when the being is considered to be an adult, there is not puberty, so the being is either an adult or it is not. Different species reach adulthood at different times, so you can have your 12 year old mushroom wife if you want.Twelve years generally being the age of allowable marriage historically in europe and consent to intercourse when that was later established.Puberty was generally considered the point at which children gradually transformed into adults, them no longer being considered children being why it was acceptable, and that was usually recognized as beginning around 12 years and ending around 16 years in girls. It does not seem to me politically motivated to make age of adulthood the minimum age of marriage.
>>543694886At the time marriage could happen at any age and he went out of his way to change part of the code to break the gay marriage mod.
>>543694886The game had child marriage due to a bug that caused the code to ignore everything except race.

>>543687157>>543687951>>543689305>>543689906>>543689960I dream that one day we could go back to the circa pre World War 1 meaning of the word without the negative connotation.Every form of art is (and should be) propaganda
>>543730551>The age of marriage in the game is when the being is considered to be an adultYeah nothing suspicious about thinking 16 year olds are adults. >It does not seem to me politically motivated to make age of adulthood the minimum age of marriageMy bad it is politically motivated to make the age adulthood 16 though.>consent to intercourse when that was later establishedAre you low functioning autistic? The middle east doesn't believe in consent, what do people call the minimum age to marry in those countries in common parlance. I'll help. You will never hear "age of allowable marriage" said by a native English speaker.
>>543739070I used to have the same problem with Skyrim. It's what >>543749693 said, sometimes the idea of something is more fun than the actual thing itself.I used to come up with super elaborate ideas for a character I wanted to play and a mile long modlist to facilitate that. But whenever I actually started playing it felt dull.To be fair part of the problem was that many of my ideas were all about having fun in spite of the game, like getting a bunch of economics mods and playing a buy-low-sell-high merchant works on a technical level, but if the game isn't built around that there's only so much fun you can get out of that even with mods.
>>543754419all propaganda is art but not all art is propaganda.
>>543756132Again, I'm talking about the original meaning of the word.If your art isn't propaganda, it's shallow at best.
Kinda crazy how much time you have when you decide to not inspect the body (and I guess know the game better). It's 21:30 and I've pretty exhausted all the things I can do, except talking to Roy and going to the Chimney Lady
>>543757484>If your art isn't propaganda, it's shallow at best.I disagree, Classical music is a great example of music that is actually quite deep, complex, and enriching and it has literally not sort of ideas, ideals, or meaning outside of just being very beautiful. Even if the music is trying to spur a specific emotional reaction its doing solely through the aesthetics of its sound and not an idea.
>>543754517No bro you see the dev is european and in poland the age of marriage is... 18. Uh... Yeah but uh... If they have the authorization of their legal guardian they can marry at 16. I think. I'm not sure actually.
I don't vibe with hades at all and I don't know why. maybe it's the trap and meme design of enemies meant to chip you slowly. for reference: I played other fast roguelites, enjoyed them and am more proficient in them.
>>543758301I've had so many people recommend Hades to me and I've never been less interested in a game in my life. I'm not much for fast, reaction based games anymore but that doesn't stop people from recommending the game to me.
>>543758804Have you ever considered playing Hadeznuts?
>>543754517>>543757990Considering a 16 year old an adult is not at all unreasonable because that's when puberty, the transition into adulthood, often ends.Poland is in fact on the high side for europe.
>>543635587Genuinely thought this event couldn't spawn on my map for some reason, I've been waiting for ages to get my hands on some dumplings for the special clothing and stuff.
>>543757990>>543760943What happened to accurately representing history.
>>543760943>I could get fuck a 12 year old on the Pacific coast of Mexico. What? Why is a government like this allowed to exist next to us.What the fuck is the orange province!?
How does aging work in Soulash 2, anyways?Does each race have various age threshold parameters like child, adult, middle-aged, etc or are they all derived from the race's max age shown in charactor creation? And what about the effects of aging? Are they the same for everyone or defined on a by-race basis?Might be funny to mod in a race that starts with practically infinite potential but loses it quickly via aging, so your skill cap would depend on how quickly you can rushed training everything in your younger years.
>>543772691Did the developer ever say soulash 2 is supposed to "accurately represent history" or are you just inferring not being allowed to fuck a child by default to be a politically motivated decision?>>543774148The age thresholds appear as a modifier for the character and when they change is dependent on the race. Elves and dwarves live to 500 and 200 respectively but both become adults around 24. Humans live to 70 and mushmen live to 80 but humans mature around 16 and mushment around 12.The older they get the higher their overall skill cap gets. As they become elderly their willpower and intelligence stats slowly rise and their strength, endurance and dexterity stats slowly fall until endurance reaches 1 and they have a random chance of dropping dead at any moment.
>>543778003>live to 500 and 200 respectively but both become adults around 24So different races can age at different rates. Therefore anon's aoc pol shitposting is not only retarded but a wholly moot point. He could just mod the game to make 3-year old humans "adult" for the purpose of marriage without nerfing their lifespan.
>>543779761The problem is that you think devs who are so obsessed about delivering a specific experience and then go out of their way to break mods they don't like are thinking in the first place. The moment you release a game, it's really no longer yours. You aren't responsible for how people mod, change, or play the game at that point.
Shame. I really hoped this line doesn't appear if you never sprint. But seemingly he says it every time or it's bugged.
>>543783309Triple A companies file dmca against mods and delete all legal copies of a game from existence all the time though.

>>543783309More like the mod you liked was dependent on a system the dev wanted to change and he didn't care.

>>543785172Yeah and they are losing money hand-over-fist right now.>>543785418Well that's a different story then in that case, also if a modder is determined he is just gonna remod the mod back in anyway, but my point still stands.
>>543785671>you can no longer marry childrenSounds like a gameplay change.
>>543785995nta but I found learning Xenonauts steep, I didn't realize I was supposed to be researching faster jets because the UFO's themselves would get faster with time. Is that how the game is supposed to be played? Losing cause you don't know what you're doing and starting again?
>>543786314you really didn't know that the difficulty will ramp up over time and that you need better equipment?
>>543786101What is your point? Is it even relevant? The developer already said you should just mod it if you want the game to be different. The developer isn't obligated to ensure some gay sex mod is compatible with every change of every build of his in development early access game.

Damn, I might have just found the first Tavern/Shop management type game that doesn't look like absolute garbagehttps://store.steampowered.com/app/436780/Tavern_Keeper/Not a fan of the hands without arms thing, but I suppose it took a load off the animators.Comparing this to all those other games I dislike I think a big factor is that the level of detail isn't all over the place I mean take a look at something like https://store.steampowered.com/app/2292800/Blacksmith_Master/, some assets are low poly some are super detailed some are in between. It makes it look amateurish as shit.

The blacksmith one needs A LOT of content to be long tern entertaining. I hope that with the blacksmith one the dev broadens the scope. Because Tavern Master could have used a lot more features. Also Crossroads Inn doesn't look bad, it is just feels unfinished.

I played Viscera Cleanup Detail for the first time in 5 years. I was swiftly reminded why I stopped. The jank is just too fucking much.It might be a trailblazer and still the only cleaning sim with an actual personality, but god damn it has been left behind in terms of technical quality and QoL. Some map gimmicks haven't aged well either, like the one where it's almost completely dark beyond the portable lamps, that shit's just not fun at all.

How comes Carol looks sexy despite wearing completely normal and unrevealing clothes? Am I just weird?
>>543891698Strasbourg speaks French>>543892440The reason black and white stripes are considered French is due to their association with the avant-garde movement in the 50s, which started and became popular first in France before coming to America and once America took up the avant-garde torch the association with that dress and France was practically cemented. Especially when American media exported that idea in the media the world over.
>>543903029Strasbourg speaks French with most of the population also speaking Alsatian and roughly 1/3 speaking German. But that means nothing. Belgium only has 1% of 1st language Germans and most Belgians speak Dutch as their first language even if French is the most spoken overall. This is in fact an endless source of tension between both groups. The Flemings consider the Walloons to be idiots and pricks who aren't even smart enough to speak Dutch (which is why they speak French) while Walloons consider the Flemings to not be "true" Belgians. Historically, the tension mostly due to economical reasons.Culturally, Strasbourg is Alsatian which is Germanic.
>>543905350No one is arguing that the Belgians are just Germans pretending to be French... There's a reason people call it "French-Germany" as a meme.
>>543907647And yet they only have 1% of first language speakers and roughly 20% of the population speaks German. They're more Dutch than German.

>>543905350if the flemish were so smart they'd speak german
>>543689906>Can you please explain it in more detail what happened?Well, okay.I spent a couple of days playing the latest version to get more of a personal view on how bad it is.When I said the game got less fun and worse as a whole, I was mostly referring to two things.1) The dev turned asteroid rushes from exhilarating to insufferable in 2.2.2. It used to be one of the most fun and unique sector type in the game, from the first newbie panic visits all the way to fighting lategame hunter fleets inside them. Mining in high level asteroid rushes was a hard, convoluted operation to pull off but rewarding. Now they are completely useless; no hunter fleets spawn inside, no rare minerals spawn inside, AND you've got lame as fuck fart rocks that can obliterate any ship in seconds. Asteroid rushes are just completely dead. RIP.2) The new huge cave-like asteroids make all sector maps just plain worse; they look ugly, they have rendering/drawcall related issues, the AI often gets stuck inside their geometry and sometimes even POIs spawn inside them and be forever inaccessible. My view on these hasn't changed but I've learned the huge asteroids are even worse than I initially thought. And in the first place, station building just doesn't fit the game's feel. At all. Now that I tried the systems in earnest (played the station defense mode, leveled construction to max on my old main save), I see that many of the base building related mechanics are poorly thought out.But the DLC and operating stations are kinda mandatory now, because boring automatic afk-mining from huge asteroids has replaced the more fun, risky and skill-based mining from asteroid rush sectors.(continued)
>>543689906>>543916351The game is now VERY buggy even after two minor version updates and several stabilization patches. I have been paying Star Valor for at least 5 years and never has it been this buggy. I'm experiencing the oddest glitches like my fleet ships being duplicated and flown by ghosts, there are unusable dupe ships in my hangars, etc. Even the UI doesn't work right anymore. Sometimes tooltips glitch out, sometimes UI elements have clickthrough when they shouldn't.2.2 also brought never-before-seen performance issues. Saving/loading takes at least 10 times longer than it used to (it's still pretty quick though) and for some reason opening any station menu sends my GPU fans spinning, something this game never did.So there you have it. The current state of Star Valor and why it suddenly got mixed reviews.I have a copy of the 2.1.2 game saved. I think I'm going to continue modding it and play it going forwards whenever I get the Star Valor itch now.
>>543916351>the AI often gets stuck inside their geometryForgot to mention; While you can't warp inside the asteroids like the AI does all the time, you can also get stuck inside geometry. Also applies to base buildings.Needs a very fast small ship though or maybe lowering FPS limit below 60. But it's happened to me in normal gameplay.Basically, collision is buggy as well.Spend a while inside one sector doing construction around huge asteroids and you'll always have retarded NPC ships stuck inside your shit. Luckily they despawn Items that are inside a geometry collider slowly slowly adjust their position until they're in open space but for some reason this bug-correction doesn't apply to ships.

>>544147327They can say dwarf fortress is "1.0", but that's just an arbitrary number, it's nowhere near complete. It's still missing magic and alchemy, etc.
>>5441480261.0 is "minimum viable product" meaning that the developers have put the bear minimum to satisfy themselves or the publishers on releasing a game. Yes, this idea gets abused to push unfinished game, but the general idea is that 1.0 has either all the mechanics that you want or the minimum mechanics you want to then sell the game.An almost useless distinction now considering the state of the industry, but theoretically this means we should have less bugs.

>>544146180Not even close. Garlic is a precision platformer. Similar to Celeste; but with fewer spikes and no forced story. It's got interesting level design and a lot of style.>>544147190An interesting position. But I can't find reason to agree. It's like saying the best games in any genre are actually game engines because they enable a group of people to make games, some of which are really good. Another close analogue is mods, some people might take into account how mod-friendly a game is when judging it overall. But you would not rate a game based on the mods available for it, they are distinct works which should be apprised individually. And it seems odd to rate Knytt highly as '2D platformer' when the focus is s often on atmospheric story and exploration, not the actual platforming. Darksouls is a great game, and it includes platforming, but nobody calls it a 3D platformer. Furthermore, you praise the game for good user-made levels but fail to consider that these are counterbalanced by an abundance of lesser ones. If we are judging Knytt based on the quality of content made for it, we can't just select the best ones. Otherwise what stops me from ignoring all the bad parts of any game then declaring it as flawless?

>>544165961>It's like saying the best games in any genre are actually game engines because they enable a group of people to make games, some of which are really good.Good point.>And it seems odd to rate Knytt highly as '2D platformer' when the focus is s often on atmospheric story and exploration, not the actual platforming. It does both there are challenge levels that are solely platforming challenges, there are others that focus on atmosphere and exploration. "Knytt Stories" is a game, but it also isn't. It's a client to play levels in so if you want to criticize "Knytt Stories", you also need to do it level-by-level, in this case I'm assuming you are talking about the pre-loaded level in the client: The Machine. Which, yes, it was more on the exploration and atmosphere side than it was on the platforming challenge side.>Furthermore, you praise the game for good user-made levels but fail to consider that these are counterbalanced by an abundance of lesser ones.No one says the Wii was a bad console because of the shovelware released on it, they criticize the motion controls mainly. So I don't see the point here, even if a console or community had "all good games" there would be those that would still stand apart so I don't see the point in making this distinction. Whatever is standard will become "bad" and what every subverts or appeals to the tastes of the community will be seen as "good" or "interesting".>If we are judging Knytt based on the quality of content made for it, we can't just select the best ones. What makes Knytt god is the core mechanics, how you move, how speed and weight are somewhat taken into account when you are playing so you have a nice response time to when you push the buttons. The overall aesthetic is something I personally like. I could go on.>what stops me from ignoring all the bad parts of any game then declaring it as flawless?Compromise are the demons you are willing to live with, which is why I said I'm 100% biased.

>>544181670I find them by word of mouth or playing a level by a designer I like then looking for more of their levels. The archive doesn't have and updoot system but there is a really bad Godot engine version of Knytt Stories called YKnytt that has an updoot system that ranges from 1 to 5 stars. Generally, anything from the following people are good:>Talps>Sergio Cornaga>Vegetal Gibber (aka VG)>Fubaka>TigerNDV>Shreeps>egomassive>Drakkan>Nifflas (The Creator)There's more but usually that group of people will have made at least 1 thing you'd like.
>>544175432>It does bothAlright my sample is limited, I mostly played the ones recommended on forums, which tended to be less platforming intensive.>I don't see the point in making this distinctionYeah it's a little redundant but the point I was trying to get across is the IF we consider user-made levels 'part of' the game and judge it based on them, it's only fair to include all of them the same way we'd consider all the levels in a normal game. There are some bland, uninspired, boring levels for KS, while some platformers have no similarly bad sections to weigh them down. But as you said, what sets the game apart is not the levels but the fact it lets you make them. >the core mechanicsI can understand an argument in favor of Knytt as a medium for creativity , though i disagree that is grounds to hold it above other 2d platformers. The style of the game works well as a foundation for people to build upon, and it makes sense to praise the game for that. But to say that Knytt is good for it's core mechanics is baffling. Sure they are good, but plenty of games have better mechanics, or do more with the mechanics they have.
>>544146046Very much so. The sheer amount of STUFF there is to do is frankly a little overwhelming. Not all of it is good, obviously, it's a mod not a professional product, but by raw filesize alone it's over twice as big as vanilla and the majority of it is very well made. The wealth of builds and subbuilds you can cobble together, the amount of events to find including a murder mystery and at least 3 instances of infanticide, the multiple flavors of wacky bullshit you run into off the beaten path, how many goddamn unlockables there are. Add on the surprisingly healthy sub-modding community and you can easily tack on another hundred hours (I will always shill Forgotten Races and Darkest Desire)I am so fucking sick of boarding though. It's exciting but by god is there too fucking much of it, both playing and fighting.

>>544163043Oh, it's the Goolix the *way* less fun Pikmin 1 secret boss, I didn't even fight you because you suck. What are you doing here killing 30 pikmin holding a ship part.I don't know how I feel about the Candy Cavern. The very similar level geometry, two half reused puzzles, the presence of the Dwarf Breadbug (but also two of the boss Breadbugs from Pikmin 2). It's definitely a step down from the wholy unique areas that I just played, but even after sitting on it I don't know if I just don't care for it or actively dislike it. Unless I've just been retarded in the previous areas I had all the ship parts from those areas with-out having acess to pikmin from later areas. the reason that's relavant is because, there are clusters of three (3) parts in the Candy Cavern, both of which have a part that wants blue pikmin. BUT you need to start at least one of the paths to unlock later areas (one of which has blue pikmin). I think if the parts need blue pikmin to be collected, that sucks because you can't collect the clusters efficiently, no matter the skill level. However, one of the parts is inside the Goolix, and I'm almost certain the Goolix doesn't require Blue Pikmin to kill it. It took damage from *some* of the Bomb Rocks I threw at it, my first impression is the Goolix's hitbix for interacting with bombs is bad, but if it's hitbox is fine and I just had a skill issue, I think it's an overall good area, weighed down by some questionable parts.

Basically nothing.
>>544238086Here's what I remember if anyone is wondering (not checking to verify so I might even be wrong)-There is a jungle level with a cloud character that handle weather-Levels have a small and big variant (Not really sure why that's a thing)-Shovel knight appears in the first level and maybe more but I genuinely don't remember his other appearance-Second level is an ice level which I really didn't like and it has an ice palace (that was a pain in the ass to enter because you need to use a vehicle or something and if you fall off it takes literally several minutes to get back up and try again) with fixed camera angles-There was an ice puzzle that didn't respect its own rule and required a different power up-There was a freezing section that requires a later power up to do but I only found out about it after clearing it-There was a swamp and it was pretty bad-There was a casino and it was also pretty bad and the boss was an extremely annoying minecart section (I think there was a minecart in every level but I can only remember of him appearing in the jungle and the last level)-There was a martian level that was not that bad but entirely designed with the idea of flying-The final boss sucked ass-The overworld wasn't very good and I only remember the entrance, the section with giant books and a tiny bit of what the final boss and martian land looks likeI know there was more characters but I literally can't remember their name of what they were. I think one was an octopus scientist in a jar and another was some animal archeologist? What were the Jinjo clones? No clue, some colored music notes or some shit? What were the jiggy clones? >>544240907As the other guy said, the moment it can't happen any more you'll want it to happen again more than anything.>>544248034>how close was that to the deadline?22 in game days of wiggle room>>544249086It's a 300 hour long achievement that pretty much required a playthrough dedicated to it. I've been missing that achievement and that achievement only since I stopped playing two years ago. This isn't the absolute last thing I want to do in the game, I've never tried making a *truly* ultimate Xiandao using the pay 2 win DLC law to make the strongest solo fighter possible which I might as well do now, but this is the last thing that bothered me that I didn't have done.
>>544254659Ok. Well, congrats then!
I really like how you can do pseudo character builds in this game, I switched classes and equipped a totem that gives me additional tier of armor and one that gives me +25 HP and my character is a tank, finally managed to kill a boss that gave me trouble with this new setup, now I have to kill him again with a pistol for a quest and I might try a speedy glass cannon archetype

A'ight
>>544268084Monogamy or getting cucked?
>>544268084>playstation lol lmao
>>544200905I think I had quite a few points in Volition (Plus a high PSY base level) Probably just rolled bad
>game is solid but not amazing experience>you reach this area and suddenly the music and fights become kinothe only thing I hate about reaching mount olympus and managing to beat the surface zones is how the underground zones now feel flat and boring in comparison
>>544270548>playing the coomer gameCringe.
>>544268313Polygamy (only for me cause i'm a special boy)
>>544272105Indeed, you're special. All your teachers probably told you so.
Tera.
Project Zomboid is coming out of early access soon
>>544287393Does it have NPCs yet?
>>544199217i love himhe is my absolute bro
>>544228351gzzzz
>>544289957Nta but there is a mod that add some, bandit day and week 1, week 1 add cops, swats etc but it still kinda janky and if you do any crime swats start spawning everywhere you go, but it is still fun. Its basically set 1 week before shit hit the fan and you watch everything turn to shit with military blocking roads and stuff.Still kind of annoyed at some twats who decided to start a rave in my house of all places.
>>544289957we don't talk about that...
>>544294992>if you do any crime swats start spawning everywhere you goWhat counts as crime? 90% of the game is basically committing crimes. Or is it crimes against other npcs or something?
>>544296576>"what counts as crime?"Anonymous, 2025.
>>544306238Just means anon is more thoughtful than the average contemporary gamer.Remind me of that Tim Cain quote about wanting to explore the ethics of a post-apocalyptic world.
>>544310079What is the Tim Cain cult. I know the name of five video game developers.
>>544311483All of those five better be developers of the original Fallout.
Decktamer released today, game is really cute and fun so far
>>544312342What do you like most and least about it?
>>544218232just started replaying this. i dropped it when it came out because i got stuck pretty early and ragequiteon 3-7 embarrassingly. couldn't get the coin on the 2nd screen this time round. the flame always too fast for me. Got to level 5-2 today. though my love meter is lower than my last save time funnily enough. even though i have more death that tiem round. also i find myself not making use of those fancy power flips and ceiling dashes. probably gonna be force to get teh hang of them later though.
>>544204923I'll check it out, thanks
>>544312342>furry cardshitback to my animes I go
>>544314124>FAS hagsno thanks
>>543916351>>543916642The base building update also made early game flow so much worse. Many fully-featured NPC stations are replaced with limited DLC station modules (whether you have the DLC or not) which don't provide any services like missions, crafting, academy, market. It's not a big deal once you have good mobility, but in the early game when you can barely warp between two adjacent constellations and every safe haven counts? Shitsux.
>>544312342I've been burned out on card games since the 2010s and I'm surprised that people keep playing them.
