What are you progressing on lately?
>>543454014The fucking scale
When my game is published, I'll travel to the other side of the globe on a motorcycle. I think travelling and meeting new people will fix the damage done to my psyche by being a shutin for 5 years. I won't get a ton of anxiety when talking to people because I'll leave that place in a few days.Knowing my luck, I'll crash at the start of my trip and be a cripple, but if everything goes right I'll get the good ending.I think 2020s is the testing phase god is putting us through. Everything will be ok in a bit. WAGMI

Day 0 of making pong
>>543454014I've been reworking the combat to not be sucky. Turns out not getting good sleep makes it hard.
Day 20. I added a jetpack. Tomorrow I'll probably paint it and add particle effects, then disappear for a bit to cobble together some sort of game loop and fix bugs. Maybe I'll make it to demoday, maybe I won't. Thank you for attending my progress conferences this month.
>>543455090>Knowing my luck, I'll crash at the start of my trip and be a cripple, but if everything goes right I'll get the good ending.Motorcycle + driving on the opposite side of the road you are used to = disaster waiting to happen.

>>543456804He's a Star Trek>>543457151Please understand. Networked physics are unpleasant to work with.>>543457508Friendslop is the genre. The ultimate goal is to have a game where you and some friends take on roles (science officer, security officer, doctor, etc.) and work together to complete tasks on some alien planets to earn points, which can unlock the next planet. Stuff can knock you over and you can knock stuff over. That's the big idea. I have some other smaller ideas about progression, item unlocks, and the different tasks you can do, but I'll worry about those if I can get to them. As for what I might submit to demoday, I have no idea what that might look like. I'll have to see what I can slap together.
>>543458310rigging is the easiest part of making assets (if you have good topology)

Reimplementing the cosmetic boku system I had to scrap awhile ago because it hurt the games performance. Since I didn't want the month long work I did last year on making the cosmetics I fixed the performance issue by making the bokube cosmetic dog shop be a separate scene but accessible still from any scene. You still spend a single diamond (1 hidden on each level) to unlock a random cosmetic by random from a list of about 39 of them or so. This version of the cosmetic shop is much better than the old one and will play way nicer on a controller since its all UI buttons mostly no more drop down slider menus and whatnot like before.

Why is there not a single good arpg that doesn't have a generic fantasy setting? I want to make "diablo but scifi" but I wonder if it's a bad idea because every game that tried that so far is complete ass. Take "The Ascent" for example. Looks beautiful, but that's about the only positive most people can give it. Gameplay is mediocre at best and it has tons of game/save breaking bugs. Is "diablo but not generic fantasy setting" just cursed?

>>543480641You made it
>>543479515I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. If you specify I can answer better, but:My workflow for my texturing is to UV unwrap everything and then use an add-on in Blender called TexTools to set the texel density (124px/m for characters & 64px/m for environment). Once this is done I use the Pribambase add-on (for Aseprite & Blender) to see my texture update in realtime in Blender as I draw it in Aseprite. I block out colors and then typically go for a relatively simple style akin to Mega Man Legends. If I want something to look damaged I'll just sample a high-res image of rusted metal or something else, downscale it, despeckle it, then do 'new palette from sprite' in Aseprite limiting the color palette to ~8-16. I then change the color mode to indexed with dithering applied. This last bit can just help to get some nice dithering applied stuff whether it's a sampled image or something you drew yourself. But yeah that's about it. Hope that help sin some way.

It's meant to be a simple combat demo but you have a functioning inventory and equipment system, the starting area has items you can scavenge and books that you can pick up and read. When the NPC in the other room beats your ass he leaves you alive on the ground and just helps himself to your stuff which I thought was pretty cool. All of these things seem like a decent basis for deeper non-combat gameplay, and I think it looks promising.

>>543497590Contrary to popular belief, Teflon coatings have a higher rockwell hardness than the steel, copper, and aluminum of the pans they are on in thin layers, and often knives and forks. (Also, Teflon is entirely chemically inert and will pass through our body without reacting.)Teflon coating delaminate from pains with temperatures higher than 550F (290C), until your pan reaches this tempurature, your pans should resist light pressure from metal cookware.Pressing too hard can cause the teflon to elastically deform, which can cause flaking, but often scratches aren't the cause of delamination of the coating. Heat is.

>>543498890For steel, the coating is sprayed into a formed pan. This is because the pan metal is smooth, and the tacky PTFE adheres worse to the surface. For aluminum and copper, no matter the finish, it always is a little porous so the PTFE is sprayed onto flat discs, and then the pan is shaped. You would figure that if the machine pressing the pan into shape isn't damaging to the teflon, it can handle your fork / spatula.
I have, for a long while now, been making my game as a a Half Life 2 mod, because I am racist against programming. However, it becomes more and more apparent the limitations of the Source Engine and how much of a pain in the penis it is to implement things outside of the stock gameplay features of HL2. Should I take the plunge and just make my game from scratch? What little programming experience I have is from trying to hack in my custom gameplay elements.

>>543499907It doesn't matter what languages you know, companies expect you can learn that on the job as long as you already know a few languages coming in. A "real programmer" is someone who has an understanding of systems and how they interact. For example, my job used a lot of AWS so I had to understand what each AWS service is good for and how to connect them. You should also know how to debug, not just with a million print statements. Another good skill is the ability to abstract repetitive tasks into objects you can call in a modular way. The biggest traits you need to have are curiosity and patience though.

This is a non-concern. I'm sorry but you don't get to just shit your game onto Steam and expect people to flock to it.>>543523519Probably because influences have influence, and always have, there's nothing wrong or unusual about that. People have always outsourced their opinions and taken recommendations from others. 30 years ago that would have been games journalists and critics writing in physical videogame magazines. You seem to think that the attention of these influencers is something you can never even aspire to. I'm not sure why.Your alternative to influences existing is some type of technocratic utopian ideal of a perfect recommendation algorithm, which doesn't exist anywhere, the biggest and best-funded companies in the world haven't figured that shit out. Every website or service I visit that has a recommendation algorithm is clearly just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. Amazon recommends me shit I don't want to buy, Youtube recommends me shit I don't want to watch, and in all cases those algorithms are subject to backroom deals and artificial boosts from having the favor from the platform.>>543523592Instead of the organic gatekeeping of player interest and algorithmic signals, you'd prefer to be gatekept by the whims and fancy of some wagie in an Indian call center that Valve has outsourced the Steam validation process to. That seems... stupid. It's delusional to think that you'd be capable of producing a game that can get through a manual review when you can't even produce one that gets organic interest from potential players, and thus you have to spend time seething about the asset flips that are out-competing you in the new releases tab. Get a grip retard.

>>543525712
